4.1.2 us on canadian 8010? - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

Is it safe to assume that since the 4.1.1 flash of the Germany 4.11 ROM worked on a Canadian tablet that it would be safe to flash the US ROM on a Canadian tablet as well?

The N8013 had issues with N8010 ROMs so there's a good change the same would hold true in reverse. Using a ROM from a different region on a Note with the same model number (EG: N8010>N8010) is different than what those in the U.S. were doing (N8010>N8013). I'd expect the same consequences in reverse and that's the device showing "custom" which could lead to DRM issues and the flash counter advancing. I'd wait for a N8010 4.1.2 ROM before doing anything.

Just flash Redemption Rom, it's 4.1.2 and works great on my (canadian) 8010.
I would expect 8010 to work with 8013 roms, issues with using 8000 (3G) roms on 8010/13 is true (without some tweaks), but can't say I've heard of issues between 8010 and 8013...they are basically the same device (I think 8010 has an IR Blaster and 8013 does not)

There are quite a few. The device status changing to "custom" vs. "official" for one and the flash counter advancing with no way to reset it other than rooting the device and using Triangle Away. Whether they are physically the same or not the difference in model number causes a stock ROM to be treated as a third party ROM when the model numbers are out of sync. Caveat emptor.

First of all thanks for all of the information posted here it has been very helpful.
The files installed and updated with no issues on my new unmodified 8013.
I am having the same issue where the allshare cast donge will not connect. Also I can't install Bn Nook app from the play store.
The only cause I can find for this is that device status in settings shows as "custom". Which is strange because I thought the only values used there were
modified and normal.
I don't know if triangle away would help here or not. The 8013 is not listed in supported devices and also I think root is required.
Is anyone else getting that custom setting in their status? For those that have said the allshare cast dongle doesn't work for them what is your
device status in setup?

Nah I have seen the n8013 and it has an ir blaster as well, I have no idea what the difference between the two really is. I have used flashable roms from both the 8000 and 8013 on my my 8010, I have never tried to push an official one with odin

would be really funny if some of these people who flash the US 4.1.2 ROM start a bunch of threads on reverting back to stock once the Canadian 4.1.2 comes out a couple of days.
It's literally history repeating itself

[Q] Problem with my Nexus 7

Hi
I recently bought a Nexus 7 that came with 4.1.1. I updated ota to 4.1.2 then rooted with a toolkit. For reasons I can't remember I then un-rooted and locked back bootloader. Now, games like dead trigger tell me my device is incompatible with them, even though they ran well on 4.1.1.
What can I do ? Flash another stock version of 4.1.2 ?
Thank you
I don't think there is any link between your root status and software compatibility, you could flash the 4.1.2 stock image to be sure, but I think it more likely that your game needs to be updated.
Rooting does not change your build.prop fingerprint, but the update to 4.1.2 does. This is what the market uses to judge what software will run on your device along with your locale.

There's a lot of things that aren’t compatible with 4.1.2. I'm still running them. You can make a back up the next time to keep the apps. Or use app back up and restore to make a apk and install it on your N7.

Actually rooting 4.1.2 with the toolkit changed a setting and thus making the n7 incompatible with tegra 3 games

Like you can’t install those tegra 3 games from unknown sources?
I have dead space for GB and it doesn't work on ICS or JB, but I backed up the game into a apk and installed it. It worked after that.

Software Update Notification for P3113 Currently on 4.1.1

Just got home with a brand new P3113 running JB 4.1.1. I saw a notification symbol I hadn't seen on the one I had just returned, a garnet red p3113 that was also running 4.1.1. It says "Software update - confirm that you have read and understood the..." and when I select it it asks me what country I'm in, then asks me to accept Samsung's terms and conditions for Software update.
So, I assume this is an OS update (have never had a Samsung phone or tab before). Anyone know what it is? 4.1.2? 4.2.1? Is this really brand new as of today? Anyone else gotten it?
I didn't go ahead with it as I want to be sure I don't end up not being able to root or anything. Any reason not to do it?
ETA: How do you take a screenshot so I can take one of my current firmware?
power + volume down
That is may be 4.1.2
We wont be getting 4.2 that easily
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda app-developers app
So I should have no future problems updating to (presumably) 4.1.2 as far as rooting and custom ROMs?
Yes , There are workaround methods to OTA update your device even after rooting , do search general thread and u will find one

Thanks but I'm not rooted yet. What I'm wanting to be sure of is that if I take the OTA now, before rooting, that I will be able to root on whatever the new version turns out to be. I haven't found any documentation on what this OTA is.
I thought there would be more interest that there is an OTA for a P3113 running 4.1.1 since I didn't find anything about it and the Tab I just exchanged didn't get the notification so it must be a brand new OTA.

[Q] Any downside to upgrading from UCUAMDB?

I have an SGH-I337 running UCUAMDB that I've rooted, TWRP'd, etc. via CASUAL 527b. Are there any downsides to upgrading to whatever the current AT&T ROM version is? I just got notified of a new version which I assume fixes the package signing vulnerability that affects all versions of Android 1.6+, which would be a good thing.
Thank you in advance to those of you who weigh in.
You'd lose your root until an exploit is released for the current update.

Both posts are correct. You will lose TWRP, and Root.
If you want you can flash just the modem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43432287#post43432287
If you want the newest firmware, I highly recommend running GoldenEye Rom. It is based on the International version of the rom they just released for the US variants basically. So you will get the new features and fixes, and still be rooted. (they had it 1-2 weeks ago for other versions). You can flash/try GoldenEye and flash the modem in the link and be all up to date and rooted on stock based firmware.

I'm sure there is pros & cons to go back to the stone age but I can't see it!
YOU can have the best of both worlds by...
Rooting
getting a good stable rom.. (many to choose from)
installing latest TWRP or what ever is your choice for recoveries
latest kernel (remember for your phone model)
latest modem...
and remember thats not taking any OTA's
or you could let the carriers control your life.. Heh, heh..
its all your choice!

[Q] convert i9505 to 100% i9505g

Hi,
Since both phones are identical in hardware. Is it possible to convert the international 9505 to be a 100% gpe with ota working? I don't mean by flashing one of those custom roms floating around.
I tried several custom roms like janjans and jamals, but both drain battery twice as fast as the stock Samsung rom (18h vs. 32h).There is no wakelock issue. The roms simply drain the battery faster for no reason.
My hope is to have a clean gpe that's provided and updated by Google.

That won't happen. Samsung *may* provide something..
These problems aside.. as far as I can see, what we need it a full Odin package that can be flashed onto a i9505 or a i9505G (since they share the same hardware). As far as I can find.. so far, no such package exists.
I don't have a i9505G, but I wonder.. does it come with a Samsung Kies package? What is the procedure to flash it back to factory settings? I can't recall the last Samsung device where system images were not available.. these are usually pulled directly from the Kies/Samsung update server.
Anyway.. I'm here waiting like many of you are as well.

I can't find an ODIN package either, and no--the GPe GS4 does not come with a Kies package. I wish it did. I want one now.
Yes, a full Odin package would be the best, but as you found there seems to be none. Even sammobile does not provide any rom for the gpe. It's like the phone doesn't exist in the Samsung world oO.
On the other hand side the has to be an Odin package (which might not be available to the public) because the i9505g is out in stores and it had to be flashed at least once.
And honestly I don't think that Samsung flashes the gpe in a different way as the i9505. Since this would require new tools that cost money.
So, there has to be an Odin package we just don't know about it by now *hoping*

I Just got galaxy s 4 for wifey, and i am really upset that i9505 cannot be converted like my HTC One on which I got 4.3 OTA, I wonder why no one thought about it here. may be people are happy with custom rom, but me, I would like OTA as its served, not custom ones.
I'm with you guys... I know that it will be a reason why we can't "convert" our I9505 in to I9505G just like that, with a simple Rom flash, but:
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44425206#post44425206 [ODIN][TAR] 4.3 I9505GUEUBMH1 Full Rooted Restore , an ODIN file to restore I9505G.... the warning text says: NOT FOR I9505-I9500 (in red!), but why? is not the same hardware?
Maybe is the ray of light we are waiting for? :fingers-crossed:
If someone try to flash it, let us know if its works.

But didn't a poster above imply these ROM's are not stock and don't perform as well? I'm thinking about trying to do this too, but this thread implies it is impossible to make a regular 9505 into a 9505G?

Changing the build prop does not a ROM make. I guess I should do proper research on some of these ROMs. I was psyched to get wireless charging back, that was my fave thing about my Pre. For the record, every day I spend here trying to decide what's next, I keep looking at my i9100 and say; why do I need to?
Sprint: Nilay Patel was right...poor poor americans, but more importantly they, your carriers, poison the whole world as well.
Is it possible to get the extra 1700MHz bands by doing a full flash?
Can someone upload the sbl from a i9505g rom?

Can anyone help me upgrade to kitkat because when I tried to go to software update it tells me that my current version is the latest one which is 4.3. I rooted my phone and I guess its 0x1
If you've rooted you probably won't get OTA updates. You'll have to manually flash via Odin, there's plenty of info around to help you get going

i see. btw is it okay if i use other countries stock firmware for 4.4?
Well other countries and carrier firmware have had issues flashing on some devices, I'd recommend XEO which is the Polish version, most people are using it. But you need to definitely read, because if you have a HK Note or an NEE note flashing KK Can cause massive headaches.
Ask yourself, do you need the upgrade right now? My advice is have a good think.. There are some minor bugs with EXT SD Card, some random reboots and freezes and third party accessories not working properly. I'd wait for an incremental update that fixes any issues if I was you. Unless you wanna install a custom ROM.
