I went ahead and updated my dad's old Note I to the 4.1.2 official leak, and then rooted it to use Tegra Overclock. I put the CPU at 1.6Ghz, and made sure Tegra Overclock saw it as stable. I then downloaded Benchmark Pi on both his Note and Note II. After several attempts, both the Note I and Note II averaged around 500+ on their scores.
The Note II is still at stock.

Comparing with the old Note1, the Note2 has the same gpu, also the same cpu family, only overclocked.
This is most likely both has almost the same results.
Samsung just recycled old technologies to produce the Note2 and S3, which I did not like.
BTW, u said u used Tegrak Overclock on Note1 JB 4.1.2.
Details of the app says it only supports GB & ICS roms for Note1. Thx for letting us know it works on JB.
I should try this myself.
A quad core and a dual core makes quite a big difference imho - I may be wrong though.

Note 2 is a next gen phone. Definitely its better than previous. The thing here is our note is still fighting with the newer gen, but i wont agree that both can have same performance.

If I'm not mistaken, BenchmarkPi only tests the speed of one core. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
The last update of BenchmarkPi was 2009. I'm pretty sure most android devices only single core processors at that time.
So if both have the same processor and clock speed, the number of cores doesn't matter.
My GF has the S3 (also quad core) and too be honest it isnt much better than my note, sure its obviously more powerful, but it still lags now and then, games on my note run just as smooth as they do on the S3, although 3d cpu intensive games will probably out perform my Note, but hey, thats why i have a ps3 and xbox.
all in all the note will be slightly better, but it most definitely isnt a worthy upgrade from the note 1.
the note 3 is the phone to look out for !

display wise, i will definitely choose galaxy note 2, but for the design, i will always choose note 1 anyday

Seriously? I went to AT&T store to check out Note 2, and taking photo's were even very fast compared to Note 1. I would call that a huge difference. Opening web browser and typing something in, then when done loading, try open another tab, go back to your original tab, zoom in, zoom out, pan, task switching, going into different menus in system settings, and go back and fourth. I immediately felt the difference in speed and responsiveness. The dialer is at least twice faster than the Note 1 too. (Note 1 takes about 2-4 seconds to load which is slower than any dumb phone.)
My Note 1 is ICS XXLRT (latest ICS) with most junk (social stuff) removed. I feel my Note is slow, but I'll try to use it for one more year.
I agree but most things you say are long known problems of ICS, present in every device with that version no matter the hardware (especially the dialer/contacts one). I tell you this cause my previous - now, app testing - phone was a Nexus S and even it is faster than the Note opening those phone functions.
This things will surely improve with official JB. Other than that, Note2 will always be slightly smoother but won't see much differences (and forget the benchmarks: quad cores are not a huge improvement over dual, another common mistake)

Actually I find the Note's screen better than the Note 2...
Resolution wise... Just a bit larger resolution on the Note compared to the Note 2, but hey, the more pixels the better!!!
I will definitely wait for the Note 3, which has been rumored on CES by the way!
Here: http://androids.ac/W0EFVH
I finally decided to upgrade to the Note 2 after being on the fence for a long time, just as many of you may have been. In fact, I just received the Note 2 (international unlocked version) yesterday night, and played around with it for about 2 hours.
In my mind, the upgrade is completely worth it, assuming you have the money, of course. If not, then the Note I is still a very serviceable phone, but I decided that the larger battery, LED notification light, better CPU, ability to take out the microSD card without removing the battery, no EMMC bug, and double the RAM all make it worth the money to upgrade, for me. YMMV, of course. I admit that I do prefer the physical build of the Note 1 over the Note 2, but to be honest, that is just a matter of personal aesthetics, and I doubt I will really care about that after a few months of using the Note 2.
I primarily had some reservations about the slightly lower resolution and the 16:9 aspect ratio of the GN2 compared to the original Note, but after having compared them side-to-side, the extremely small size I'm losing width-wise is more than made up for the rather significant increase length-wise. The only thing that I'm sort of disappointed about is the fact that I'll have to buy a new MHL adapter, since the Note 1 adapter does not work with the GN2.
+1 still on note1
waiting for note3 or s4
I don't know who is lying to themselves but after installing the leak and coming from a gs3 the note 1 lags way to much on JB!!!
Now its back on ICS and seems fine. The extra two cores and higher clocked GPU make the difference.

My note 1 will afford me the ability to wait for the note 3. And even then I'll wait for it to go down in price first.

I just compared note and note 2 in my local tech store. My note is running leaked LSA 4.1.2 and the note 2 at the store, was running jb 4.1.1.
I have to say, that there isn't that much difference, when both are running official JB, imo. Note 2 is snappier, but only little. Also my note's JB is still a leaked version. There might come improvements, when the official JB comes out for our note.
That said, I can easily wait for note 3, 'cause Samsung gives this great update for older note too and at the same time, it's packed with all the neat features, that note 2 has.

Even then the only real HOLY sh!t factor I think is the camera at 13mp
the real catch I want from samsung is to innovate the god dam battery , somehow include a screen that can re-capture light energy ala solar panel
Right now I'm rocking the note1 with an extended brick battery from seidio to get through one day of work.
FYI I'm on Governor restricted cpu of 1ghz , and it's conservative mode

aren't they slapping early adopters in the face with that move ?

I'm guessing their going with Qualcomm because atm, their chip is the only one that supports LTE (at least in the US). Samsung might be working on an Exynos chip that can handle LTE but that hasn't been announced yet.
The Note is sporting a 1.4Ghz Exynos processor. Sexy beast w/ the Super Amoled HD screen! 5.3in. Screen, gorgeous!

Hmm, i don't feel like hitting the like button. My GS2 running at [email protected] with the official Samsung extended battery feels no envy at all
The soc is still the same afaik, this sounds like a cheap screen size buff to me. Anyway i'm pretty sure this will sell well in the US: it seems like people don't mind carrying a desktop pc in their pockets there
My galaxy s2 probably still in my pocket.
If Galaxy Note has stereo mic with noise reduction and can be installed voodoo control and it's super amoled hd plus i can sell my gs2 and buy it.
But i don't think it has all of them.. maybe none.
Hope for Nexus Prime...
The Samsung Note has me won over by the 2500 mah battery.

As you undoubtedly know, samsung has said Note will not be released in the US
Sgs2 screen is big enough and I cant see development being anywhere near as big for the others. Android runs smooth as butter with the sgs2 anyways. Cant see any reason in the near future for an upgrade
How about having a Wolfson audio chip inside Galaxy Note !!! with 5.3 inch screen it looks gorgeous. Well my biggest question is SUPER AMOLED PLUS vs SUPER AMOLED HD. I am sure letters are more readable with 285 ppi on the HD screen but what about the colors are they as bright as PLUS on HD screen. I hope so.
With a Wolfson audio chip and Super saturated HD screen i would go for the Galaxy Note. I love big screen's.

Be aware that there'se an official 2000mah battery for the GS2: it's doesn't even add bulk, it just makes the phone all thick as it already is at its bottom. I got it today and it rocks. Too bad the phone doesn't fit anymore in the case now...
GSG2 LTE sounds good. I can't wait til its released. I hoping it works on ATT. Didn't get SGS2 but kind of glad now. We have LTE launched in Houston but i don't know how good it is. Anyways still going to try it out once released.

dont forget the note has a higher resoloution and bigger screen to power and its also overclocked to 1.4ghz with probably quite high voltages
i would say you may get equal battery life out of the sgs2 with 2000mah battery and overclocking and undervolting
of course that only matters if you want the note for the battery i can see the appeal of the device it would make so many things even better like media viewing , web browsing , sat nav etc but at the same time it may be just to big for my pockets i would have to hold it before making that judgement though saying that i am happy with my sgs2 and dont see the point in upgrading , its just a sideways step there will be much better coming real soon and they will be forwards steps like quad core etc
i dont think with that screen the battery will be much different to the 2000mah genuine one that you can buy for the sgs2 this device will rock for people who want an even bigger sgs2 though good too see samsung covering all aspects of the market
Now that the Note is coming to AT$T in a couple weeks, I've been doing some pretty serious window shopping. But, there's also the desire in the back of my head for the ever illusive S3. From those that have had the opportunity to use the Note, would you recommend the upgraded Note being released on the 19th or hold out S3 (with it's specs still in the rumor mill)?
My biggest draw to the Note is the fact that you can easily take notes right on it which is a plus for the office. One of my only worries is portability. Summers coming soon and the thought of carrying around a paperback novel (granted its only 40 pages thick) makes me nervous.
Please help sell me one way or another.

Ok first of all let me tell you that the phone is not an issue carrying around unless you are a fashion concious person. The phone will fit into major pockets except skinny jeans or any tight fitting clothing but if you carry a bag out then it won't be an issue. Any ways I think you should wait to buy the phone unless your in need of a new one quick. If not wait till the s3 comes out and see if you like it then great get that or else get the note and since you waited the note probably dropped in price
As for my opinions on the note, first I think the specs are fabulous, its pretty good enough for a phone in the year 2012 and I think it's gonna rock the boat when ics comes out. Before I bought the phone I did a specs comparison to the iPad 2 ( you know since this phone is targeted as a tablet phone and best tablet is iPad in my opinion) and the note turns out is more superior to the iPad 2 and at that moment I decided the note is my phone. Overall its a more than decent phone only thing is you might need to buy a memory card if your thinking like videos and music and games, I just bought a 16 gig card off Amazon for like I think less than 20 bucks (its original) and while I couldn't transfer my apps to the sd card I did move all my videos photos and music to the sd card freeing a few gigs.
Any ways it comes down to the owner's needs, I wanted a tablet and phone and then I saw someone showing of his phone at the subway taking pictures and stuff then I asked him and found out about the note, let me say this is not a replacement of a tablet, its an alternative so there is a difference
With that I appologise for the long post and wish you have the most awesomest time and love your phone which ever one you get

The at&t Galaxy Note isnt a Galaxy Note. Its just a big skyrocket spec wise. Expect heavy choppiness and lag due to the weak snapdragon SoC.
I got my Intl Note about 3 months ago back when there was no news of the S3. I recommend waiting for the S3.
The S3 is most likely gonna feature the new 1.5ghz Exynos or a quad core Exynos.
Once the quad core phones come out you're gonna regret buying a dual core phone.

I don't get this obsession with people wanting faster and faster processor, I mean I remeber a time when I was about 10 years old people would buy phones based on their looks or price and now every one just wants specs even if the phones are ugly. I'm not implying the phones now a days are ugly but I'm just saying what's up with wanting a faster processor I mean its just 0.1 more than the note how much faster is it gonna be. I think the current speed on the note is fabulous and I think this phone is perfect if I had one complain it would be the lack of space and the keyboard SUCKS. Other than that its an awesome phone

The shift from single-core to dual-core is probably much larger than from dual-core to quad-core. This is because Android in general isn't even properly optimized for dual-core let alone quad-core. You'd probably need to wait for "Jellybean" again to get proper optimized changes that takes advantage of a quad-core SoC. What happens then? You're paying a premium price for the first "quad-core" phone that isn't even properly utilized until the next ANdroid update comes.
Never buy into bleeding tech, always get it around the 50 ~ 70% cycle mark. That's where you get the best longevity, utility, and price to performance ratio. =)
If you really like the idea of note taking, there's really no reason not to get a note.. Make a prototype out of cardboard if you want to check portability. It's bout twice a thick as cardboard.
Big screen, stylus - that's what you want. What would you trade that for, in the s3?

I'm going to guess that the S3 is going to have a 4.65" display as well or at most 4.7". They're not going to cannibalize the Note for no apparent reason. On that grounds alone if screen size matters, it's pointless to wait for the S3. If anything, wait for the Note 2 in October.

As i think people and correct me if i am wrong, but the quadcores will not be quadcores but 2x dualcores on different speeds so you will have max battery from it with a improved speed. Lets say 2x500 and 2x1500(2000) the 2 high end cores will fire if they needed.

All of the things a smart phone is used for is improved by a larger screen except portability, so the largest screen that is comfortably mobile is best. The Note is narrow enough to fit almost any pocket but is uncomfortable in trousers/jeans pockets and an alternative such as a deep shirt pocket or jacket pockets is needed. If you can live with that then get the Note for it will give you the best experience.

I think it's silly to suggest waiting nine months for the purpose of buying something with longevity. That's nearly half of a phone's lifecycle assuming you get a new phone every two years. This phone isn't even out in the US yet!
My advice: go buy your Note and enjoy it. There's no sense in waiting for a product that hasn't been announced, and something better is always around the corner. The best we can do is try to get something that's future-proof and enjoy it, and since the Note is one of the highest-end phones available today and Samsung has announced ICS for the it by the end of Q1, I think it's a smart choice.

Thanks for everyones insight. I'm gonna go with the Note for a multitude of reasons. The quetion for about 39 seconds was n7000 or the I717. Exynos or snapdragon.....
Survey says......
I787. Sorry to burst some bubbles, but a 1.5 dual core snapdragon is not going to be noticeably inferior to the exynos. Plus, the snapdragons are compatible with the LTE network unlike the exynos chipset which gives the major advantage to the I787 in network speed.

I really urge you to reconsider. You're basically buying a big Skyrocket if you get that. Even if the speed difference is negligible to you, dev support will be way lower for a Snapdragon chip.

Go read reviews from people who traded their OG SGSII's for Skyrockets.
I personally went to go check out the skyrocket on release day and there was so much lag compared to the OG SGSII model.
But, the snapdragon barely keeps the skyrocket running, the note is a lot bigger, so it requires more processor power, something that the snapdragon can't give

I agree partially with this statement. I have both the Note and Skyrocket now and had the SGS2 as well.
In terms of day to day speed SGS2 > Skyrocket > Note
The Note isn't slow, but imagine the difference in pixels it's pushing. I can't imagine the ATT Note on that snapdragon (which in all reality is not that bad, just not an exynos)
I actually was lucky enough to be in the right spot at he right time today and place the AT&T Note in my hands. Was at my local company store today dropping off a freshly rooted and cleaned SGS2 to an aquatintance there and joking asked if he has a store unit yet. To my surprise he said "Yup" and walked over to a corporate guy who was there on business who happened to be carrying one.
Contrary to speculations...even in it's stock and bloated form, it was VERY responsive. I noticed next to no lag and can only imagine what the thing can do when overclocked. Every web page I went to, opened pretty much at desktop speeds and jumping from app to app was fluid and seemless.
Now am I gonna be listening to Pandora, watching Netflix, tethering 4 devices and setting up a Webex? Probably not. I actually have to work while at work and my daughter gets my home time. PDF's, business uses, and making calls.... that about sums it up these days.
I'm not talking about benchmarks or specs but rather real world use. I've looked at tons of videos on youtube and the note 2 has the s4 consistently beat on opening apps and websites. Is it because it has a larger motherboard??? They both have quad cores and the same 2gb rams. Or is this because of software optimization because the note 2 has "mature" software.

Its because of android optimization. Note 2 is running on 4.1.2 which had loads of updates allready. Don't forget that the s4 is the only smartphone which runs 4.2.2 at the moment (except the nexus devices). S4 will get updates and will get just better and better. We just need to be patient.

I too have used a note 2 stock and with many roms
and now have moved to S4 since 26 april and no doubt that S4 is fast and enjoyed using it and never wud want to go back to Note 2
this is my personal experience and havng abt 40 apps and not filled with any crap and keep the phone with only thing req
How can 4.1.2 be faster than 4.2.2 if it's the same Google release?
I've had an s3 and it was super buggy and slow even with custom rooms. My note 2 in the other hand was a beast!! Opening and closing apps was a breeze and Web pages loaded smoothly. The s4 on the other hand I'd rate as being in the same league as the mote 2 which is disappointing given that this is a newer generation chipset. I'm more excited for the release of the Google edition though which is the main reason why I switched to an s4.

Simple answer... new software needs time to get the bugs out.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Android 4.2 needs fixing definitely , or perhaps optimisation on key lime pie will be better ... Hopefully
I noticed this one too. My friend has the Note II (I also had the same device a couple of weeks ago) and the device is noticeably faster than my GT-I9500.
same here.. i have both and note2 is faster in everything, specially taking photos.
No wonder my sister's s3 on 4.2.2 is performing terribly. Lag is prevalent and touchwiz keeps on crasing and restarting everytime she plays games.
To be honest the s4 is a disappointing upgrade over the note 2, this is one of the few times wherein I wished I stuck with my old phone lol You can't really tell the difference except with the screen and the battery life but there's a big 150 dollar difference in the price tag.
5.7 full hd display
3gb ram
13mp camera and many more
The next generation Galaxy Note phablet from Samsung is one of the most anticipated devices of the year, so understandably rumors about it aren't hard to come by. According to latest report the Galaxy Note III will be announced two days before IFA 2013 kicks off - on September 4.
The report also says Samsung Galaxy Note III is said to sport a 5.7" Super AMOLED display, rather than the 6" unit that was most frequently mentioned so far. The 1080p resolution is still expected to feature a Snapdragon 800 chipset or an Exynos 5 Octa processor along with 3 GB of RAM.
Furthermore, the third generation Galaxy Note phablet is said to come out with a 13 megapixel rear camera and will be slightly thinner than the Galaxy Note II with its profile measuring 8mm.
Unfortunately, there is no official word from Samsung just yet, but the IFA 2013 launch seems inevitable, considering the strong competition in the phablet club.

5.7 and 1080p 99% pentile , with a so so chip that will have the same relative 3D power than the note at 720p.
Skipping to note 3.
Call me again when they launch a 1080p non-pentile with better processor and 6" without bezel to put the frontal samsung logo.
As I feared, the Note 3 will be a minor update to the Note 2. Samsung needs to bring a new phablet to remain competitive in this market segment and so it decided to fit the S4's camera, fit a new processor with dubious real life performance improvement, slightly increase the size of the screen and make it FHD to keep it up with the Joneses. Big deal...
Note 4, please.
This does NOT make me anxious for the Note 3 to be released.
Seems they want me to pay hundreds of dollars just to upgrade to a 1080p display that's slightly larger, and I bet we'll lose A LOT of battery life too (because of the bigger/higher resolution display).

People will not go for Note 3 for any minor updates. I have seen lots who are selling their good old Samsung and going for Xolo and MicroMax in India.

I tend to agree with you. Of course there are always consumers who want to have the latest phone, but considering the price tag and that the Note series consumer is, IMO, a bit more tech savvy than the S series consumer, I believe that the Note 3 sales will be disappointing.
I look at the price of my Note 2 and the price tag of my laptop and they are about the same. When people look at the size of my Note 2 and ask "is that a cellphone?" I always answer: "actually, it is a pocket computer that also makes phone calls", 'cause that's the way I see my Note 2 (and in that perspective, 5.5" isn't too big).
Now, I'm not going to sell my laptop just because the new generation has some minor hardware updates. I don't really need them and it does not make any financial sense to spend money on a new laptop when my current one suits my needs perfectly. Specially in these times when we must think twice before spending our money. This reasoning also applies to my "pocket computer that also makes phone calls", i.e., my Note 2.
The two things that I really miss in my everyday use of the Note 2 is a slightly bigger screen to take notes, browse and read PDFs, and improved sunlight legibility. A camera with better low light quality and an image stabilizer that actually works would also be handy. The Note 3 brings none of this. Hence, I'll save my money for whatever future device offers me the features I really need, Samsung or not.

+1.
I'm really disappointed in Note III specs, I'm already looking for this beast: Sony Xperia Z Ultra :good:
I used Note 2 since the first day it was released, which makes it about almost 10 months old already. And to me, with the direction Samsung is heading by releasing so many variants, S4 Zoom, S4 Active, S4 Snap 800, S4 LTE Snap 600, S4 GSM Octa and so on makes me wanna puke, and I'm pretty sure there'll be at least 2-3 variants of Note 3. Hence, for once, I'm going to the brand that I hated so much last year, but now I've come to respect in terms of developer support and that is Sony. I'll go with Xperia Z Ultra. I don't need the S-Pen since I've used it for less than 50 times, so with Z Ultra, if I need to jot down notes, I'll take some pen or pencil and be done with it.Plus, the ROMs will have less bloatware too :victory::victory::victory: and that's an epic win for me
Or maybe, just maybe, we could actually wait for Samsung to reveal Note 3, and then discus on specs and if it's worth of upgrade.
I don't think I will upgrade to the Note III. I am getting my Note II in a few days, but I have used the Note II since launch date since I bought one for my dad. I am sure we can see a 2.3-2.5 GHz Snapdragon 800 or Exynos Octa Core Processor with 13 MP camera, 1080p resolution, a screen around 5.9", 2-4 GB of RAM (probably 3), 3600-3800 mAh battery, upgraded S-Pen support, a bunch of the S4 features, some unique features for the Note III, non-pentile display too, etc. The only things that I see as an upgrade are the processor and RAM really. The screen resolution is nice, but it is not necessary/ground breaking to have for app usage since devs support many devices. The camera will be amazing like the S4's, the battery life will be compensating the increase in screen resolution power. I wouldn't be surprised if we see three Note III's, an LTE model, an international HSPA+ (N7200), and LTE-Advanced model.

There will be people who always need to buy any model or brand as I do see a good sales being an authorised reseller for many brands, but the market prediction is low on Note 3. Just need to wait and watch..

I cautiously agree.
But at the end of the day, the stats on the final product will make it or break it I think. Every website is throwing out any rumor that they can find, and I'm not believing most of it.

true, not only website.. even the so called "branded companies" throws a lot of rumors :good:, personal experience!
I also used the Note 2 since launch date (10 months). The more I use it the more i appreciate it for it's battery life, performance and a nice big screen. I never had a phone that I liked this much. I usually own a phone for 2 years so this should last me till Note 4.

I have had this note 2 for less than a month and I love it. Will get the note 3 because I know it will use the new Arm processor. I really think it sucks that Sammy used basically the same from the note 2 except for more ram and two more cores.
When you look at what is everything with Snapdragon quad, you can see how much more performance it provides.

I bought the note 3 to replace the note 2.
I have not yet sold the note 2 and have been testing both phones simultaneously to determine for myself if the upgrade is worth it.
Note 2 setup: stock ( leaked android 4.3) , a few apps installed
Note 3 setup: stock (Android 4.3), same apps as installed on note 2
Benchmarks Apps:
Note 3 beats Note 2 in all I have tried.
Real world use/Apps:
I have run several applications (multiple times ). Some are .....
Browers: chrome, default browser,
Snote
Gmail
Youtube
Speedtest
maps
Camera
Google now
etc...
In several cases, the note 2 is slightly faster than note 3 ( yes, this is not a typo)
Not by much...... but note 2 in "real world use/applications" seems ever so slightly faster than note 3.
In multi-tasking/split window, I run CPU-Z side by side with the chrome browser.
This was to monitor the 4 cpu cores during browser benchmarks.
I tried the following browser benchmark tests....
1. browsermark - rightware.com
2. sunspider
In both tests, the note 2 out-performed the note 3. -----------update: {may have been due to thermal throtling}
I have searched the net and surprisingly, no one else seems to have noticed/reported this.
Can someone else with both phones verify this?
note 3: SM-N900 ( 1.9Ghz) - Octa-core
note 2: GT-N7100 (1.6Ghz) - Quad-core
Update:
I've run the online browser benchmarks a couple more times after some hours of rest.
Sunspider 1.0 scores {firefox}:
note 2: [ 664.4ms]........note 3: [ 414.8ms]
Benchmarks are consistently showing note 3 as faster than note 2.
Real world use shows little to no difference.
I don't think that a few seconds make a difference between two smartphones as daily driver. So I don't think the note 3 is worth the upgrade at least for what I heard. Thanks for sharing!

I dont have the Note 3, but I have just seen a video of the "famous" LG G2, with the S800, running some top games with FPS meter enabled, and I'm proud to say than my "old" Note 2 has the same performance, and in some games is even better! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16TAbUkAHlU
Benchmarks are the most useless thing that happened to mobile phones. And you can prove it with your own Note 2. Flash an AOSP rom and run a benchmark like 3DMark, you'll get a better result than in stock TouchWiz. So, this means that games should run better on AOSP, right? Then run some game. They will lag WAY more on AOSP roms than in stock roms. Benchmarks aren't a good indicator of anything.
In conclusion, I think phone specs are evolving, that's for sure, but the improvement between generations, like Note 2 -> Note 3, are little in terms of performance, it's not worth the huge amount of money they cost.
Maybe most apps are optimized for 720p rather than 1080p.

Thats so interesting. .I wouldnt ever expect that and first time hearing it. No i feel a sense to apprach note 3 performance suspected.
If you proove this with a video screenshots and some benchmark test you would do a revolution i guess..

More and more I believe that with top of the line smartphones like these, upgrading is necessary only every two years. I had the S2 before this and it's really when I began to feel the slouch in newer games that I decided to upgrade.

I have stored worrying about benchmarks because all people say is the phones cheat the score. I would rather see just see real world performance. And like a PC a higher clock speed and more cores does not mean better performance.

note 2 to 3 not compelling upgrade
very useful, thanks.
I was considering upgrading when Note 3 prices fall, maybe early 2014. But now I am far from sure especially with Samsung's stupid region locking.
Reasons to upgrade:
IR emitter for TV remote control. Vaguely useful, perhaps in bars and restaurants when their TVs are turned up too loud so's I can turn them off or down!
USB3. Possible good for faster charging off computer and occasionally dumping in a load of music files.
802.11ac. Maybe I'll upgrade one day at home?
Display. Reports suggest it's easier to read outdoors.
Reasons I was considering not upgrading:
Note2 can support all the note3 software. We just have to wait for Samsung to release it. Or androiders to kang the note3 rom.
Am happy with 720p display. I have quite good eyesight, with corrected vision (short sighted) and I never feel my Note2 needs more pixels on the screen. A better sensor in the camera for low light would be nice but the camera is good for casual shots.
Camera already good enough.
NFC antenna. I like the NFC antenna not being part of the battery so I can use Anker third party battery which gives as good as OEM battery.
S-Pen already good enough fine. I got used to the only minor nuisance that the off-screen capacitive buttons couldn't sense the pen.
CPU already fast enough.
802.11ac wifi. I don't have anything which supports super high speed wifi. I'd end up buying an 11ac access point, then would want to upgrade my laptop wifi card too.
Besides, 802.11a/n is faster than my broadband at home. And at work we don't even have 802.11a.
I too have the Note 2 (international) and the AT&T Note 3... I can say that if you don't have an upgrade available it definitely IS NOT worth paying full retail price for the phone. I signed a new 2 year agreement to get it for $288.88 and I can turn around and sell my Note 2 for $350-400 easily making my money back...
The pros with the Note 3 are that the screen is absolutely beautiful! Besides the S4 this is the most amazing screen I have ever seen with my own eyes. Next, comes the software. There's a lot of new small changes that make things easier to use, however most of these things will be coming to a Note 2 via an update. If you're into aesthetics then this device looks more "premium" over a Note 2 and I almost don't want to cover it with a case.
As far as performance goes, you can notice it slightly. Apps open faster, but it could be due to the increase in screen sensitivity also. TouchWiz eats up over 1 gig of ram leaving a little more than 1 gig free for user apps. On my note 2 with my custom rom I would use about 600mb of ram leaving a litle more than 1 gig free also. No improvements here.
Some buggy things I've noticed so far is that my text vibration is very weak compared to others such as email. Also every app gives me a vibration alert even if I turned it off.
There's a lot of bloat on here even for a carrier phone. Most of it is from Samsung it seems.
Besides the few "pros" I see with the Note 3, I would not recommend anyone to purchase it over a Note 2 unless you have an upgrade you can use. Especially an AT&T one with a locked bootloader, which forces you to keep all these useless apps running on your phone.

There is nothing worth here to give up $450 to trade in my Note II ($850-$400), mine is so fast and so optimised for my needs that will skip the Note 3 for the next one, for me that's the end of the story.
