[q] bricked thread again - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I opened dolphin browser last night then it hanged. I held the power button and down button to shutdown the device which it did. It tried to boot up to the Google screen(the one with the lock/unlock symbol) but it took a while so I powered it down again by holding the power button. And now, it doesn't boot anymore. I tried connecting it to my pc but it isn't being recognized, only the apx can be recognized.
Help help.
I'm on stock ROM, rooted and unlocked. I tried the button combos to no avail.

wow thats impossible... or a rare thing i guess...
Stock ROM stock Kernel,
just rooted and unlocked?
I think the device was dying from start...
try booting to recovery...

There is a decent amount of info on your problem of the N7 suddenly going into apx mode. Search Google for nexus 7 apx mode and maybe you'll find your way outta here. Wish I had a little better advice but I haven't experience it first hand... Good luck...

HELP!!! Stuck on boot screen????

I had rooted my 8 gig Nexus 4 and decided to go back to stock. I downloaded the correct image files from the google website and flashed them using fastboot as I have done many times before with my GN and Nexus S models.
After I flashed the files and do a re-boot, the phone just hands on the nexus (X) startup logo?
I tried booting back into recovery and I get the upside-down android with the red triangle, at this point I have tried holding the volume up key and pressing the power key, but I can't get the menu screen so I can do a factory reset??? I have tried holding the volume down and power keys, both the volume keys and power keys, but no luck getting the menu screen?
I am totally disgusted with this LG product, I NEVER had this issue with any of the previous samsung nexus products. Am I BRICKED?, any help would be appreciated please.
I even tried re-flashing the google system files again and no such luck.
If the phone turns on it isn't bricked. It also has nothing to do with it being an LG device.

Which recovery are you using?

I finally got it to go into the menu screen and did a factory reset and I am fine now. This was one of the worst ones I have worked with trying to flash back to stock. If they would have had a battery you could pull out, I think that would take care of some of the issues. Oh well, I am up and running.
Same problem. Downloaded and installed the Google Nexus 4 image and it said it installed OK, but when I restarted the phone it was stuck at the Google screen.
EDIT: Rebuilt all software on the phone and it is working OK again.

HELP! Bricked Nexus 7, cannot boot into boot loader

Hello everyone, I'm new in this forum and have just bricked my Nexus 7 .
I was not very happy with my Nexus 7 with JB version 4.2.1, it lagged and took long time to load apps etc. I used the Nexus 7 toolkit to unlock my bootloader, flash recovery and then tried a few custom roms. I eventually flash the official 4.1.2 firmware from google but the constant notification for firmware update annoyed me and I decided to root and get rid of the firmware update notifications by installing fotakill.apk.
But when I tried to root using the Nexus 7 toolkit, I chose the option to sideload the zip files for rooting automatically. It asked to flash my boot loader to a lower version (3.34, mine was 3.41) and afterwards it rebooted the device and eventually got stuck at a screen with these lines:
now send the package you want to apply
to the device with adb sideload <filename>
after a long time without anything happening, I suspected that things went wrong and pressed the power button for a few seconds and the device turned off. Now I cannot turn it back on, when plugged in it doesn't show the charging battery, also I cannot boot into fastboot mode by holding Volume down + Power button. The screen stays black the whole time.
I even tried to open the back power and pull the battery out and in again and try to turn on the tablet, nothing happens. I remember the battery level was like roughly 90% the last time the tablet was working, so I don't know what went wrong .

I tried that but nothing happened .
Press all buttons on the side simultaniously untill fastboot/bootloader mode appears. This should work, no matter if your device is booted or not, or soft bricked or whatever. Then: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796 .
If it doesn't work however (like after 30-60 seconds), then connect your nexus 7 to your PC. Go to device manager and identify your device. Does it say apx-mode or something like that? Then your device is possibly hard bricked and you might find some answers here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879228 .
Your should not have used rootkits. Most of these topics appear after people using toolkit. Learn to use fastboot. It's the only program you'll need for the nexus 7. Yes, it's a command line tool but at least it forces you to think before flashing. For example, it was not necessary to downgrade your bootloader. I really don't get why you did that. Also, if you want to run a stable 4.1.2 without the annoying update messages, you can, for example, flash cyanogenmod 10. It's stable, very smooth, and way better than stock.

Thanks I did a search and finally found an answer. I was running fine on my N7 with PACMan and suddenly it got stuck booting up. So I booted into recovery and reflashed the ROM, and wiped dalvik and cache. When I rebooted it went to "Android is upgrading" like usual after wiping dalvik, then it got stuck there. So I rebooted again and nothing. Just a blank screen. Your suggestion of holding all the buttons down for 30-60 seconds awoke my Nexus. I'm going to wipe everything and start over.

[Q]Not sure whether my Nexus is hard bricked or volume down button not working

Good day, guys. This is my first thread here, and it's safe to say that I'm a total noob when it comes to Nexus devices. This is my second Nexus device, and it's kinda heartbreaking that I accidentally bricked it on the second day of usage. What happened was that I flashed XenonHD ROM on it (did the usual wipes before doing so). It booted successfully, but after that whole finishing start-up screen before going to lockscreen, it reboots and repeats the process. So I attempted to go back to recovery via bootloader (CWM v6.0.4.3) to restore my back-up, but then it just got stuck at the recovery screen without any menus or options for about 2 minutes and then rebooted itself and went back to the same screen (cwm without any menus or options). And now, it's stuck there (the whole process which I now call recovery loop) whenever I power on my device and the only way to shut it off is by pressing and holding the volume up button. PS, I cannot access the bootloader after this happened. Whenever I try to, it just goes to what (from what I've read over and over from a lot of different forums and guides) people call APX mode. But they say that the only way to access that mode is if I press power-volume up simultaneously.
So my question is, is my nexus hard bricked (or any kind of bricked), or do I just need to have the physical button module replaced? If it is bricked, is there anyway I can fix this myself? Is there a process that I need to follow to undo this? I have searched far and wide, but it seems that the only way to unbrick this is if I can access the bootloader and go to fastboot mode, which I cannot at the moment.
Please, someone help me.
I have same problem after flash xenon rom.

I think as long as you can't access the boot loader then you are up a creek. You are not powering off by pressing vol up you are entering apx mode the fact that you are getting apx mode and not the bootloader tells me you have a corrupted bootloader. Your nexus is dead and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm not sure what has caused this I think you have just been unfortunate. The only way to revive your nexus is either if you had backed up the bootloader using the nv flatline procedure but I think its clear you haven't the other option is a new motherboard they are not too expensive on ebay

[Q] Nexus 7 Wifi 2012 32GB Kitkat Stops booting/Soft brick?

Hi,
i never touched my Nexus 7 with any other ROMs or such. It was still rooted and kinda original. Now i can't do anything with it anymore.
I talked to the google hotline already and i was trying to start the bootloader which works fine, but nothing more.
1. When i choose Start, Restart Bootloader, Recovery Mode oder Power Off nothing happens, beside Booting failed (Recovery Mode).
2. When i start the phone just with the power button i just see the google logo.
3. When i plugin the power cable i don't see the battery for loading.
I got another device from google with horrorable battery power, so now i wanna try on my own the save my Tablet. I flashed my Galaxy Nexus and HTC HD2 couple of times, so i'm not a 100% Noob.
I was already looking in like 10 threads i found about problems nearly like mine, but i don't got the golden clue yet, sry.
I hope you can help me please.

I encountered identical problem on an N7 (2012) 32gb and try everything that I know how and always get the message ADB not found. Finally I use Skipsoft ToolKit and use option #9 Download, Extract and Flash Google Factory Stock Rom and it works . My N7 was returned to stock with latest firmware.. Of course you will lose all data and still have to unlock and root again
I am not a techie so I cannot explain the details but only share my experience.
I hope it will work for you

If you can't see the white battery picture when plugging in the power cable, I suggest you use AC power, and if you are, try using a different USB Micro cable.

HELP touch screen stopped responding :(

My son was watching Youtube videos this morning, all was fine.
We left the N10 on a table while having breakfast and now the touch screen is completely unresponsive.
I cannot swipe to unlock, so I'm completely left out and I have no idea.
I can reboot using the HW button, and the volume buttons work too but the touch screen seems to have died suddenly.
Any ideas?
Try to reboot to bootloader and flash a touch recovery. If that works try a to flash a different ROM.

Hi,
Also, if on Touch Recovery it doesn't work, then you will need to replaced your touch screen.
If it works, then you can just flash back to stock, it's quite easy, you can find further instructions in the Manta Help Thread .

I can reach the bootloader but then I'm stuck.
If I connect it to my PC at this point nothing happens and neither ADB or Fastboot can see the device.
It seems like Windows doesn't even detect it. I'm not sure what to do from here.
Also if I load the bootloader already connected, I get the 'Downloading' message on the screen.
Any ideas? I will try again anyway just to make sure I didn't do it right the first time.
The downloading screen is Odin. I think. I didnt know this tablet had that.. To enter fastboot press vol up+vol down+power. If its still undetected look into Windows device manager. It is probably a driver problem.

Hi,
Please check if your drivers are correctly installed and refer to this thread for further information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670400. The first posts have some good information for you
~Lord
Well, after letting it sit for a few days, I grabbed it last night and the touch screen was responding again.
I have no eff'ing clue what happened but I'm sure glad it's working. I could have done without the factory reset but eh....
