[Q] MTP & USB fast charge - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just out of curiosity with fast charge enabled I can still use MTP to access and transfer files....but I thought with fast charge enabled I would not be able to.....is my fast charge not working? I have a supported kernel and used Trickstermod to enable it.

If fast charge is working, I think it should say charging by AC. Check to see if it is.

USB 3 port on siyah kernel....

Hello guys. I just want know that which is USB 3 port for charging galaxy s3. My pc have 4 USB port at back & 2 USB port on front. What which is the USB 3 port for USB charging on siyah kernal. Thanx
What? Use any port on your computer to charge your phone, kernel doesn't matter. Sorry if I'm mistaken just confused by your 'question'.
your PC needs to have USB 3.0 ports.. USB 2.0 Ports won't be of any help if you are planning on using 900mA for USB charging on siyah's kernel.

No. Charge with any USB port is normal for everyone. But with siyah kernal & with USB 3 port it increase the charging speed which is not normal. Its great benefit with USB 3 port.

Don't shoot me if i'm wrong but I believe the colour of the usb 3.0 ports are blue instead of the white used on usb 2.0 ports.

Well in that case yeah, USB 3.0 will charge faster than 2.0, but it doesn't matter what kernel you use, 5v 900ma is standard for usb 3.0 vs 500ma for 2.0. Unless the phone is restricted to a certain charge rate.
Also, I've been using siyah kernel for some time now and do notice even with USB 2.0 if you set it to 900ma usb charge it does charge faster. About 1% a minute compared to 1% per 5 minutes.
thanx all. I confirmed & my problem solved.
Need to set something or simply plug into USB3?
hello, I'm new user of custom fw (Criskelo ROM) on my gt-i9300 and I'm using syiah kernel, so I would like to use charging by USB3 on my PC.
Is it needed to set something in phone or faster charging will be automatic?
You have to set the USB charge current in STweaks. 900mA would be safe
Ok. Thanx, but where can I find STweaks? I tried to google it, but didnt find it....

[Q] car install no ac charging with otg

hello guys well i have a nexus 7 that i set up in my car everything working perfect but i cant get the battery to "ac charge" im using this cable
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Usb-type-A-...G-Micro-USB-female-power-supply-/310680595889
the issue is not in the charger because the charger im using when connect to the tablet directly does achieve ac charging but when i plug in the above splitter it looses it, if the cable is meant to separate data from power than why is this happening? how can i get "ac power" or fast charging, I currently have everything connect to a toggle switch that i leave on over night, and i really is not a big deal but i noticed the other day with the navigation on watching videos that the battery is still draining.. using timur kernel
thanks in advance
its obviously the splitter, from the looks of the cable on the micro usb socket its to thin to take the power?
You need to state more info. What kernel? Rom? Only a specialized kernel will allow otg host mode charging.

If you are completely stock, the tablet will not charge while it is in Host Mode with the OTG cable attached. It can be done with a special kernel, though.
Yup, thats what I said.
I can almost guarantee it is your otg cable, get a samsung compatible otg with power cable.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-Host-OTG-Cable-W-Micro-USB-power-for-Samsung-N5100-i9300-i9500-N7100-/130917631296?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1e7b4c8540
I have a car install running Timurs usbrom (which I recommend over just his kernel) and its the one Im using without issue.
It is because the otg cable does not have the data cables in the powered end that is split off. They need to be shorted to get full AC charging but it is impossible with an Otg cable as it would not work for any data.

So what you are saying if im understanding correctly is to achieve true ac charging you have to utilize all 4 cables in the usb passage?

You need to short both the data pins together for AC charging. But if you do that, OTG is gone.

You are just using the kernel, usbrom is his full cm10.1 based custom rom. The proper otg cables need to have pins 4 and 5 (ground) together on the tablet micro usb end to activate the ofg and power, that why you need the special cable.Your cable only power the device on the usb end not the tablet,it says no device charging in the description.
Also with Timurs kernel or rom the data wire cross isnt needed,or the otg devices wouldnt work.

Force fast charge ?

Hey guys
i was just wondering if enabling the force fast charge option would affect the battery life in the long run in any way ?
Thank you for your time
I don't think so.
It just disables the usb functionality so the usb port can give the same power as a wallcharger.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Fast charge just forces android to use the input source of power to be AC, so battery won't suffer, what can suffer is the source you getting the power from, if you have a docking station designed for 500mA power and you force fast charge, that it's usually 1000mA, you might short it's lifespan, also make sure your USB ports can output 1000mA.

What's the difference with the extra plug in the new USB cable included with Note 3?

What does the extra plug do?
Just faster transfer speed or faster charge using USB 3.0?
I tested it with a standard USB 2.0 microUSB cable and it still works and charge the Notes 3
It dedicated in/out. Much faster charging and data bandwith

From what I've heard and read USB 3.0 doesn't charge faster. But it transfers days about twice as fast as USB 2. But don't quote me on that. ..

True, doesn't charge faster from the wall, but will when plugged into a USB 3.0 port on a computer when compared to USB 2.0 port.

I tested this, and it seems to charge at the same rate in a USB 3.0 port, plus it stopped charging after a few minutes. The port is a PCI Express card from Rocketfish.
Now I'm starting to doubt the accuracy of the app or my understanding of what it does.
It's Galaxy Charging Current Lite. If I launch it while my battery is charged to about 80% it says 460. If I come back & refresh the view when it is charged to 97-98% it says 1800. Why would the rate start slow then speed up as the battery fills, shouldn't it be the other way around?
A few weeks ago I used another app to check charging rates of my Nexus 4 with different cables & chargers, and this app seems to be very different. I guess I need to try to figure out which battery checking app it was.

The charge/data cable, is just a standard USB 3.0 cable, just like any USB 3.0 external harddrive cable. I am actually using a black WD USB 3.0 Cable instead of the ugly white cable supplied.
All the cable does, if you have USB 3.0 on your PC/Laptop is allow for much fast data transfer (great when transferring music or video to and from your phone via usb. Note that you need to select USB 3.0 mode on the phone.

May be silly to ask - can I use quick chargers?

I know Qualcomm quick charging isn't supported but any harm in using the chargers. I don't expect it to be any quicker than a regular charger but I just want to be able to charge at work while I'm waiting on getting another charger
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
You can use QuickCharge charges for any phone, even if it doesn't support QuickCharge, it will just charge at the normal rate.
OK thanks! I forgot that I also have to get cables. The other included cable is way too short
