You need not downgrade! Just download nandroid back up of MS2ginger 2.1. Boot into recovery, full data wipe/cache, davik, and restore system+data, boot, devtree and recovery. !! Reboot !!
To upgrade to MS2ginger 3.0, boot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik and restore system only.

No You cant install it directly. Because it contains only system partition and is meant for upgrade from 2.1.
Install 2.1 first then 3.0 system partition restore.. Just an additional step.

by the way, my defy is green lens
any other opinion?
I installed it directly from cm7. In the original release thread there is no word about downgrading it first to 2.1 . Now my Defy is bricked
Alright you realy have to install 2.1 first. Works for me now.

your 2.1 means android2.1 or ms2ginger2.1??
my cm7 is stable version with 179 kernel
Now i am more hesitating...
i send a pm to walter... but no respond...
Actually the whole ms2ginger flashing is explained in complicated manner in official thread as well as everywhere..it would be very helpful if someone posted noob step by step guide for noobs like us..just like there was noob guide for cm7..please can anyone take the initiative? ..u can keep it short, but keep it simple

Don't worry, walter doesn't respond to my PMs about DFP-188 and DFP-231 either.
Do you have kernel from 2.2 rom or 2.3 rom?
Oh and btw tell me your cwm version that you have right now in cm7. If you have v4.x.x.x, you cannot change directly to ms2ginger. If you have v5.x.x.x it should work fine.
Hi.
I am currently on android 2.3.6 ROM ( nandriod backup) by adi4motion. my defy has green lens. can someone explain how to install walter rom on greenlens defy. I tried to read many times but its very confusing to understand for someone like me...
Any help would be appreciated.
when i wanted to go from miui to ms2ginger it didnt work but after i flasht an original rom and then ms2ginger it worked like a charm - so i think thats the best way if something doesnt work
Steps to install on greenlens defy?????
For greens lens defy there is a room called GGL ROM and its based on Walters 4.5.1-134dfp 231 sbf
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
Out of following sbf from walter folder, which one should I use? (I m on CM7 satble froyo 2.2 kernel) (Green lens Defy)
3.4.2-179-froyo-fixed-sbf.sbf
4.5.1-134-DFP_132-fixed.sbf
4.5.2-109-DHT-22-fixed.sbf
4.5.3-109-fixed.sbf
I am already on GGL ROM by adi4motion.... Not happy with the camera as I get FC sometimes... also pictures are dark when taken....

I m also on same ROM and now want to install MS2Ginger. Can I directly restore nanodroid backup via CWM? will it work?
Installed
Finally after 2 days, thrice flashing full SBF, I was able to install ms2ginger
here, what I did? (specifically for Defy with green lens)
1. Flashed full SBF (froyo kernel)
2. Installed Pikachu Edition 2.2.10
3. went to CWM and followed all the instruction given in MS2Ginger - Android 2.3.6 thread
run 2nd-init (voldown on blue LED)
Go to "Recovery"
Go to "Latest or Stable or Custom Recovery"
"wipe data and cache"
Go to "Backup and Restore"
Go to "Advance Restore"
Select "MS2Ginger3.0"
"restore system"
Go to "install zip from sdcard"
"Install "MS2Ginger-Greenbread.zip" via install zip" (only for defy with "green" soc camera and froyo kernel)
reboot.
run 2nd-init (voldown on blue LED)
Go to "System"
Go to "Overclock"
increase VSel3 to 58 (GREENBREADMOD-froyo kernel installed)
reboot
Booting up can take a while, max is about 10 minutes.
Charge your phone to 100% and keep it charging for min 1.5 hour after.
Done

Tell me what SBF you flashed.
And you said you have red lense and used froyo kernel. I guess that's why you have problems. You should have used GB kernel
You will need to follow this thread, first post strictly and put attention to where its written red lense and perform the correct actions.
But before that in order to get your phone up again you will need to flash some GB rom, but again, i need you to tell me which SBF's you flashed so far??

Boot into cwm and factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache also. Then re flash ROM of your choice. If it still won't boot I suggest trying another ROM or Odin back to stock and re root your device.

it s due to wrong kernel version
I download china kernel from tezet (even if i m in france) and i install it (i start recovery mode with connected to power)
Hope you can resolve your problem

You are right, the problem is caused by flashing different roms contain different kernel. I met similar problem before. Flash correct requested kernel before flashing the rom you want is necessary.
Suggestion for other users: Before flashing new rom, know what is your current kernel version, and do necessary adjusted work if needed.

The problem may be caused by flashing the CM10 directly, you need to flash a updated kernel (check what tezet said about the kernel update in his CM10) from froyo kernel to CH kernel before flashing CM10 (not the first two CM10 release, which asks for froyo kernel to run.)
I had similar problem when I flashed directly from froyo kernel to a CM10 that asks for GB kernel to run. So I flashed a updated kernel before flashing CM10, then it CM 10 working.
I assume the problem is caused by different kernel. We usually call it "M logo stuck" problem. Hope my suggestion works. And hope your work will work soon.
Best wishes,
Peter

Hello all,
For the 2nd time in 3 years I have bricked my phone. I was using Cyanogen 7.2 in the past and today I have decided to try MIUI.
After a flash i was geting reboot before Android was loaded to I decided to install the base OS.
Installed RSDLite5.6 -- shashed one of the oficial Andro for version 2.2.1 I think (closed page and I don't have it in front now) and device is all dead.
I know in the past I have flashed a chinese ROM and was working again...rooted and all of that but I can't find a download link for a ROM to do this.
I am not shure how to proceed also.
Can you guys help me, it will be much apreciated.
I've got the same problem, tried to root with superoneclick, first time it didn't go through, 2nd time it went through. Phone turned off (instead of rebooting) and screen is black since then, doesn't come on....

I can't flash a custom rom now because I don't have recovery. The only thing I can do with my phone is to enter download mode.
As far as I know I have to:
- flash a new room that I can use it to boot device and work on it.
- root device and install recovery
- install cooked rom
My problem is that I don't know what to flash so that I can boot my phone --- now it is in the dead phase
You have to flash an sbf, not a ROM(that's what you will flash once you get back recovery). Read the defy beginners guide to get the steps. Basically:
Get sbf (search and download)
Get rsdlite and Motorola USB drivers
Flash it (from boot loader mode)

PS seems that the phone can get through the boot process, but I can see nothing cause the screen is totally black. In fact, if I try to unlock the phone, I can hear the sound of the unlock process.
Why? How I can solve this?

I know this is off topic and I apologise, but I dont want to make a new thread...
I'm a first time rooter and have TWRP installed ...
I don't know much about kernels but I'm interested in one that works well with stock ROM, is fully stable, improved performance, improves battery and perhaps also has double tap to wake...
If anyone could recommend one, or a few options, that would be great... Thanks
