anyone going to switch to the newer acer devices? or the nexus 7? because tegra 3 is out and it seems very good, also might get the nexus although it would be missing external sd slot but that can be fixed if you root it, and the newer acer's seem to get hot but are getting fixed with software updates, what do you guys think? is it worth to upgrade to tegra 3? or wait for tegra 4 in 2013?

Already bought a 701. Still keeping the 501 though.
The hot processor is due to it being a high performance tablet. There's no way yet around this, but hopefully some newer updates will lower the temp down a little.
It all depends on 2 things.
a. Do you want it?
b. Do you have the cash?
If you answer yes to both, or yes to one, but unsure of the other, then go out and get it.

Well, the interface is ok. ICS. I really didn't get a good chance to play around, as it.... ahem.... bricked. (no comment, but you know me, testing a tweaked kernel. Seems the recovery author screwed the pooch on the recovery. Not only wasn;t tested because he doesn't own a 70x, but was based on the 510 recovery, which the author of course later found it, it bricks the tab when you restore Lesson learned. Well, should get it back hopefully in a week. About time I bricked a tab
I wrote an initial review in my rom thread.
Basically, the only complaint I had, was 2. Hot processor (supposedly an update has either been released, or promised by acer), and the screen sensitivity is in my opinion, not as sensitive as the 50x. Sometimes had to press a little harder. But I think both can be fixed with an update. It's a first release after all.
Overall, a good upgrade I think. But if you can get the 51x at a better price, and can sacrifice the HD display, you might be better off. But that display...... Daaaaaaamnnnnn.
EDIT. On a sidenote, the TF Prime also has Tegra3, and it also runs warmer than normal under load. And they don't have an HD Display. But if you OC the TF Prime, to 1.6 and give it a load, it runs hot. Mine, out of the box, was 1.4. Strange. But it never rebooted after 30-40 min of Shadowgun. But was pretty hot. 90c maybe. I would probably advise 30-40 min of solid HD game playing, then let it cool. It cools down really quick when you let it rest for a couple minutes.

You know, being a techie with means, in a way I am very much tempted by Tegra 3s and all the new hardware, but I stop and ask myself, why? I don't play games on my 500, and I run reflexxx, so it does everything I want it too, and smoothly.
I think for me, personally, it's less of a question of whether I have the money or the desire, and more of do I have an actual need? I mean, Chrome, Perfect Viewer, and Moon+ don't exactly need much horse power. Perhaps if I sat down with a Tegra 3 workhorse I'd think differently, but short of putting on a T3 game and saying "oooh" for five minutes, I can't see any real benefit beyond a slightly better battery life.
I have to

Would you recommend the nexus 7? And where did you order yours? I heard they are out of stock in a lot of places.

I think that I'll hold out until the holidays before I even think about a new tablet. By then it should be well known which ones have good dev support, lots of ROMs, etc.

I bought my a500 last December when Target had them on a fire sale. I'll probably do something similar this coming holiday season. Truth be told, I'm incredibly satisfied with my Iconia, but I'm always interested in the next best thing, and Tegra 3 has the right mix of performance and price for my income.
I won't get a Nexus 7, however. No SDcard, no HDMI, and no USB host are all deal breakers for me. The Iconia has spoiled me in this regard.
I'm thinking about getting myself a Nexus 7 to go alongside my a500. You can never have too much tech.
I have had a a500 since about July 2011. I really like it and with ICS it got even better. I replaced my rooted Nook Color with it but for reading I find the a500 to be too heavy so I picked up a Nexus 7 last week. LOVE it! Super light and great for reading on and I haven't touched my a500 since. I do really like JB and the smoothness of Tegra 3 compared to the a500. I think I will still prefer the 10 in tablet for web browsing but for $199 the N7 just can't be beat. Can't believe I was recommending the Kindle fire to friends just a month ago.
Used a nexus 7 for a few days, passed it along to my parents. No hdmi, no card slot, that's a dealbreaker. I'm waiting to see an A700 in person, but the Nexus 7 will be a tough act to follow. I'm hoping Google will follow up with a Nexus 10 that fills in the gaps of the Nexus 7.
hopped on teh nexus 7, I have been wanting a smaller tablet, plus my step dad now has the a500 which helps while he is waiting for kemo, for some reason it takes like hours just to get into treament
No more tegra for me. Im waiting for an cheapass tab with an high quality screen and a nice resolution cause thats really the only thing I need and in my eyes mather these days. Since all cpus are strong enough for most of the tasks. For example; my Desire Z with an 800 mhz cpu can play all the latest games like gta, maxpayne, dead trigger just fine. It even runs xbmc with navi-x totally smooth. I can even say it handles the most important tasks like browsing and playing video much beter than my dual core crappy tablet, especiely video decoding. And since xda officially gave Nvidia the middlefinger I do the same.
EDIT: The desire even runs dead trigger with tegra 3 graphics tottaly smooth...
After the A501 I will never buy another Acer product and I recommend anybody that asks my opinion on the matter to stay away also..
I just picked up a Nexus 7 last week. Got tired of being behind for AOSP ROMs. Didn't realize about the lack of USB hosting or I might not have bought it. Having a slight screen issue so it might go back to Staples.

I found someone willing to trade their Samsung Galaxy 2 7.7 for a PS Vita. I bought the Vita when it was released, but never touched it. I've been wanting a tablet because I need a large portable device to view documents and whatnot. As much as I'd like a Nexus 10 or a iPad 4th gen, I simply can't afford it.
How is the speed of this device and overall screen quality? Would it be considered a fair trade? I haven't been able to get anyone to consider trading the Vita for a 2nd gen iPad or a better Galaxy tablet. I'm just worried the CPU on this isn't so great.
It's a really great tablet. I have the tab 10.1, but the screen is crystal clear and bright enough to read in moderate sunlight. While the stock ROM is a tad laggy, just get CM10 and your speed worries are over.

Simply go for it its great device.and about cpu its dual core omap which not a old age processor.although now a days we got quad core on devices but dual core also gives good performance.
Screen is good with 1024x600 and tab gives full hd playback.
Books reading is average experience.
And it plays almost all hd games smoothly.so go for it.
Sweet that's reassuring. Although someone offered to trade the vita for a Galaxy tab 10.1. I believe it's the v version would that be a better choice?

I too am wondering if I should get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7 inch). Amazon has them on sale (currently out of stock, but still allowing orders) for $179. I have a $30 credit for pre-ordering Windows 8. I also have $56.58 in rewards points from my Amazon credit card. This brings the price down to $92.42.
My goal is to find a 7 inch tablet that I can use for gaming and occasional movie watching via Netflix and Hulu Plus. Yeah, the Nexus 7 would probably be superior, but I'd never be able to get the price down to this level.
Should I get one?
the SDcard slot in my Galaxy Player 4.0 is dieing (bump the player the wrong way and is says the SD card has been removed and then remounts it seconds later). Anyone here have one of those and can compare sound quality thru HEADPHONES, my primary use will be screen off music playback, so the 4,000MAH battery sounds real nice versus the 1200MAH battery in my SGP 4.0 but I need an idea of the sound quality of the tab 2 7" before I jump on this Amazon 180 dollar deal.

Well I ordered up one earlier today in the "bubble"between last night and now when Amazon had it listed as INSTOCK not the backorder message there now and last night, instead of sorting thru this page can you point me to the basics of Rooting, Stock Recovery Files, PIT files, best kernel/ROMS do I need to backup my EFS (was an issue on my SGP 4.0 when the guys that ported CM7 converted the file system from rfs to mtd and the script wiped the EFS folder)? Is there a Newbs start here thread? I want to be on a custom ROM before bed the day I get it, Also I've got a 64 GB microSD that was formatted and used in my 4.0, that should be plug and play at this point right?
I ordered one, too. I figure that nothing could come close to this for the $92.42 I'm paying. The Nexus 7 would be better, but not worth the additional money. And I just read that Samsung is starting to roll out the Jelly Bean update, too. Well, in France anyway.
I'll see what the stock ROM is like, but if I don't like it I'll switch to an AOKP ROM.
I'm also hoping that 8 GB (4.5 GB available) will be enough. If not, just another reason for a custom ROM...

Yeah, I cashed in my change bucket at the coinstar (loading it to an Amazon gift code, since they don't take a fee that way) and got the first 26 bucks that way, and there are several Jellybean ROMs on here already from what I've read so far.

i ended up getting a 7" galaxy tab 2 from sears.(they tell me 7-10 business days before i get it) paid $177.99 ~190 with tax..
i wanted the N7 32gb since i couldve got it for 220... but ive seen some scary things about burn in on the screen and i saw a few that have melted..
hopefully not long after i get my tab ill start cracking on some roms for the community(dont expect too much. im only a beginner with making roms)
Well my tab 2 7" I ordered on Thanksgiving arrived Today with standard Amazon shipping.
I have ordered the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 the other day. I am waiting for it to get here. But from what I read, and the videos I seen, it does seem to be a really great tablet for the price. I cant wait for mine to come in!. lol
I have 2 Nook Colors for my wife and I. Wanted to get one for my daughter for Christmas and missed the $59 deal. Today they have the Colors for $69 and the 8GB tablet for $79 (both refurbished). Does anyone on here have experience with both devices and can compare the pros and cons. I know the tablet is a little more locked down and the 8gb device is not as well supported as the 16gb. Is it still worth having the dual core of the tablet over the color? I don't mind running from SD as I did that for a year with the Color. Don't see any real performance increase now that I'm running of EMMC.

I find the Nook Color more stable. The tablet is pretty much the same thing if your getting the 8G version. It just has a duel-core processor. Of you can get it for $79, then jump on it.

I have both the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet (8GB). I do find the Tablet faster. I tried some of the CM ROMs early on it and was not impressed. I guess they are better now. But I rooted the stock and was very happy with that. Stock on the Tablet is Gingerbread and on the Color is still Froyo. I think that is why CM7 runs so much better on the Color than stock.
For $79, I recommend the Tablet and run rooted stock, very stable and fast.

Buy it, NAND CM10.1 it, enjoy it.
Bought mine for 120€ and it is worth its money.
It is fast when CM10.1 is installed in NAND and the graphics performance is good.
I am posting in here because this is the tablet I currently have. Loved it accept the screen colors rather sucked. But it is getting a bit old and I am tired of how heavy it is.
Besides it will continue its life with another family member,
So I am looking at above 8 inch but still on a budget (Under $300?). Would like a hd screen as this screen is getting a bit rough to look at next to my galaxy note 3.
I may just end up getting a nexus 7. The reviews say that's the one to get and I do not like the ugly design of the Nexus 10. Really like the look of the Kindle HDX. However no play store and a locked down device means not tinkering .
Anyways what do you guys suggest? Any experience with and 8 inch tab or help convince me about the Nexus 7.
PS: I am on a Verizon account so lte may be a bonus.
Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.
A500 replacement
I have the nexus 7 and quite like it. You might also consider either the Nook HD+ or Kindle HDX. N2A (nook to android) has boot roms for both devices that unlock them and boot a current version of Android. The current version is 4.4 Worth looking at, especially with the low prices on the Nook HD+ with B&N rethinking its tablet offerings.
I've used the N2A on one the earlier Nook color and had no problems with it.

Ok. After a lot of consideration I ended up getting a Asus Transformer TF701. You can not beat it at $299! Great screen, runs a fairly bloat free vanilla version of Android.
Really like this tablet. Almost a shame it does not get the attention it deserves.
I think Asus would do better with it if they advertise. Plus I can get the keyboard docks later.
Thanks for the suggestions though.
