My best friend has a $200 gift card burning a hole in his pocket since July, And loves my Nexus 7 and I keep telling him to wait because demand was so high eventually Best Buy will sell the NExus 7 but time has passed and its not looking that way.
What gives?
i actually called my loacl best buy a few days after release because i was looking for one and customer service informed me that they would have it in stock soon but i have not called back since do to finding one elsewhere. however i do think they will get it, at some point.
A few years back I had a best buy gift card for 50 bucks, didn't need anything at the store....so I found something for 50 and returned it the next day and got cash back.
Not sure if it would work in that amount, buy worth a shot.
You could sell it on Craigslist for not much less, I've done it before.

I got a bunch of best buy cards from that viggle app in hopes of buying a nexus 7. When I realized that they weren't going to sell it I sold the cards on plasticjungle. Com for 85%. Transferred the cash straight to my PayPal account.
I just bought mine at best buy yesterday...? But this was in Canada so maybe it's only Canadian best buys? Weird that Canada actually gets something before the states haha

Its really weird that the don't. Google is losing a lot of sales by not being there.

On that note, I only knew that best buy sold it because I made a spur of the moment decision to check the website. The store didn't even have them out on demo so I almost left empty handed but decided to ask an employee.
I think they're still having stocking problems. My local Walmart only have 3 each, and they just received them in the past few days. I have no idea why Walmart would have them instead of Best Buy, but maybe they just sold out fast? That's my opinion...

BestBuy has them, in stores here the US.. At least that is where I got mine.
Try calling the stores in your area. I had to called 4 of them until I found one that had a 16GB in-stock.
Could always has the person they got the giftcard from if they still have the receipt, then return it for cash.
i bet apple is restricting the sales at best buy. best buy is really apple friendly, at least here in so Cal.

You can go there, use your gift cards for other gift cards they have. I believe they have Amazon as well there.
huh...
At my bestbuy even if I just mention the nexus 7, a worker says "we don't carry the nexus 7 and will never carry it " I've heard that 3 times now, once when I was just talking to a friend about the one I bought at office depot. SO its kinda like they are obligated to say that? Hah who knows!
Before continuing on, I work for Best Buy, for another week.

Best Buy Canada does carry the Nexus 7. Best Buy USA does not. The reason is BBYC has different agreements than BBYUSA.

How did you buy the Nexus 7 at a BBYUSA? If so can you please post a pic of the survey code at the bottom?

We are not obligated to say that. It's just that Samsung and Amazon contracts make it so that BBYUSA cannot sell the Nexus 7 due to agreements between the two.
Really sucks, I went to Office Max.

I thought I read somewhere that Apple demanded certain Google products not be sold at Best Buy...not sure why something like a GS3 or Galaxy Tab 2 doesn't qualify....but I'm willing to bet thats the main reason BB hasn't carried them from DAY #1.
Anything can change at any time....and hope it does.
It probably has something to do with the price and the threat the nexus 7 poses to Apple.

It's actually amazon's fault BB is not carrying the Nexus 7 or 10. They threatened to pull their products out if BB decided to carry those tablets. Obviously with so many variations of the Kindle BB would end up losing money if Amazon did pull their products so it makes sense for them. it's just stupid retail politics

Sucks to live in a country where unethical behavior like this is allowed...
If this is true, it clearly falls foul of several of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_antitrust_law
When I went to the US in October (Portland, ME) I had a really hard time finding an N7. Best Buy told me that they "Don't sell Google products" and I was like, ooookay. So after a bit of muffing about I finally found one at Staples. And they only had one in stock, so I snatched it up immediately.
Best Buy just had your standard iPad's, Nook's, and a few Samsung tablets. Really horrible selection, at least the one I went to was like that.
Hi Guys,
Bit of an off topic thread with regards to the nexus 4, but ive been thinking about this for a while now.
Do you guys believe that certain smartphones will be worth money in the future? In say, 20 or 30 years? I ask this because i recently packed away my nexus one in its original box with all the original parts and its completely mint. I also just bought a Nexus 4 so was thinking of selling my old Samsung S2 which i love. Its been a brilliant phone to me so i dont really want to part with it, however, seeing as samsung sold the s2 in their millions it probably wont ever be worth much in the future.
What are your thoughts on things like this? Do you sell your phones straight away or box them up with the original packaging? Can you see them being worth much in the future.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this guys!
Jim
I keep all my old phones, and have the boxes too. But I don't think they will hold any future value.
Maybe for historical reference but I suppose there are collectors for everything. I now sell my previous phone or pass it to my gf or other family member. Still have my Nokia 7650 in a drawer somewhere, it was my first smartphone.
I don't keep any of my phones after I'm done with them. The reason being was when I was younger I only got a new phone when the old one broke (which happened a lot since I skateboarded with it in my pocket). Now, I sell it to fund my next phone purchase. The only phone I actually kept was my HD2, but I let my little sister borrow it and I haven't seen it since. I plan on keeping the Nexus 4 though if the next Nexus is just as cheap.
I keep a lot of my phones for me mostly
Sent from my SGH-T769 using Tapatalk 2
Only reason I haven't sold my Galaxy Nexus is so I can use it as a back up just incase something happens to my N4, otherwise I pretty much sell my old phones just to get some money out of it.
Good stuff!
I guess we'll have to wait a good few years to find out whether certain phones have any collectable value or not.
Still undecided on whether to sell my S2 or keep it
I sell mine, but did keep one: the StarTac!

These phones won't hold any value. They are way too common to do so. The most money you'll get for a phone is if you sell it right before the next generation is released. After that, it'll probably take 70 years before the phones are so scarce as to have value again.
Like one of the other posters I sell my phones to help fund my next phone. I used to keep a backup, but I realize I'm just better off buying a new phone or a used phone, as in either situation I'll end up both ahead financially, and in terms of technology.
I would've kept the G1 since it was the first Android phone, but traded it in for the HTC Radar during the Windows Phone Challenge promotion. My G2 got stolen. Keeping the MyTouch 4G Slide as a backup phone in case I need one.
Even if you want to sell it at a high value, I think it has to be in brand new condition or something like that.
I have my G1 and my N1 (which I'm using now while I wait for my N4) just because they were the first android and nexus line. But I have sold everything else. Sold Nexus S, S2, and Galaxy nexus (wish I would have held on to this a little longer until I actually had the N4 though).
I get an upgrade.
My wife gets the older phone.
My 7 yo son either breaks, wets or eventually takes over that device just as I'm upgrading again.
Still have my 6260 Nokia. Was playing with it the other week and wow, talk about laaaaag.

Unless your phone has the fruit logo on the back, the answer is no.
I have seen original iPhone going as high as 1000 on ebay recently (the phone was still sealed in box though). You need somewhat a cult for people to overvalue something as common as today phones and electronics.
The gold and precious metals would go up in value over time and make it worth more to recycle maybe

I keep mine as mint as possible and sell them on to pay for their replacement.
No point having tons of phones kicking about.
I am currently changing my family over to T-Mobile and had ordered an HTC One for both my wife and I and we received them yesterday. I activated my wife's phone as well as my daughter's phone but I have not done my phone yet. Honestly, I have said for awhile that I want a Nexus Phone, and since the phone is almost half the cost of the HTC One it helps saving money to be able to get a Nexus 5 when it comes out.
Now here are my questions and hoping you all could help guide me: With Google I/O starting tomorrow should I get the phone now or wait to see what is announced at Google I/O (Though it sounds like the Nexus 5 won't be announced until October / November)? I ordered these phones via phone so can I return this HTC to the T-Mobile store? And since I want to return this and I they already requested my phone number to be transferred should I get the Nexus 4 from T-Mobile or order from Google Play (I have NO IDEA why the same phone is $130 more on T-Mobile but I will look that one up).
Any advice would be very helpful! Thanks!

While there won't be any new/major hardware revisions, it never hurts to wait, especially if it's just a day more.
I'm personally curious if tomorrow is when we'll see the fabled white Nexus 4.

The reason why it's cheaper on the Play store because Google sells them at a loss. More precisely they don't make any profit off the phones at such a low price tag. That's why T-Mobile and perhaps some other retailers will sell them for a higher price to make a few bucks off of it.
Since all Nexus 4 are the same you might as well get one from the Play Store. If anything goes wrong, Google can get you a replacement. It's also much cheaper. It comes unlocked so feel free to use it on any GSM carrier.
I think you should wait and see what happens tomorrow at the I/O conference. It seems though a new Nexus smartphone won't be released until the very end of the year.

Lol. They don't need the money. I'm not really sure why they do it. When the new Nexus 7 tablet comes out this summer they're gonna lose $5-$10 for each device sold.
Another interesting thing is that the Galaxy S4 costs about $237 to make. Buying it without a contract will cost you over $600-$700. Crazy, huh?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
They are trying to introduce more people to the play store and android experience, that's why the price is lower. Wait a day and see what happens. But if it comes down to your question about should you return HTC one for the nexus 4, I would. You'll have extra $200 to buy accessories or maybe donate some $$ to charity.

Wait until tomorrow just to see if there will be a storage bump. You can return to tmobile within 14days (30 in CA) as long as you are a new customer, for renewals tmobile no longer has a "cooling off" period so I'm not sure what the process on returns is. Buy from Google. The Samsung S4's BOM (cost of materials) is <$250 now the cost to research/market the phone I find hard to believe would come in at $500 (assuming a $750 unlocked selling price) and yet that is what they want you to believe...my point is Tmo sells the N4 for $130 more because they can and that is what people are used to paying.

So the first article has conjecture and rumor from "analysts". The last 2 are about the nexus 7, a different device, but also say that google is making very little money or selling at cost (which means they aren't losing money and is believable.)
None of the articles have anything to do with you contradicting yourself nor do they have any info from google concerning the cost of the device so...you still contradicted yourself and you still don't know how much money they are/aren't making.

Yep, "we" have known for awhile that these devices only have $200-$300 worth of parts in them and google is using their size to push down prices for devs. Unfortunately it isn't doing anything for the general price of phones, in the US at least, since most people are still on contracts
Google is an advertising company at heart, everything they do is geared towards getting people online 24/7. Hardware is a loss leader

I am currently a Nexus 4 owner. I just ordered a 16GB AT&T Galaxy S4 for $175 which I should get sometime next week. As soon as I get it I plan to sell it for $550-$600. I will then use this money to justify buying the Galaxy S4 Google Edition. I will then also sell my Nexus 4 for $250 or so.
I love the Nexus 4 but there is no question that the Galaxy S4 GE is better. I love the beautiful screen, the high def camera, the big screen, the feel in your hand, and I even like having a physical home button. That being said I don't think I would pay $650 for the phone straight out but by using my upgrade and selling it I can justify spending that much money.
If you do decide to get the Nexus 4 I am selling mine which I have only had for a few months. It's in brand new condition and I have the original box and all. Let me know if you are interested...

Yes, my upgrade was not until September but I called AT&T retention center and was asking them how much it would be to cancel my line and they offered to upgrade me early to the GS4 for $175.
What's the difference between an at&t gs4 and the GE if you just flash a custom ROM on the at&t one?

Maybe nothing but I am not taking that chance. There is no confirmation that the AT&T phone and the Google Edition phone will have the same hardware. It seems more likely that the GE phone will be like the TMobile AT&T phone which is slightly different. I am sure there will probably be ports to the Google Edition but I want a phone that was made to run stock android and phone that is supported directly by Google with the bootloader already unlocked.

Whoa, that's terrible! I'm so glad I live in the UK
But to answer, since the nexus 6 is probably coming out between this autumn and next spring, I would buy a moto G or another fairly good budget phone to tide you over until it comes out, then buy the nexus 6. I have a 4 as well, it's a great phone, shame to lose it.
Any chance you had the feature to track the phone on?
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk

You have 2 wait a lot for N6
Glad you are okay, it could have been much worse. Even if you are able to track, it wont be worth it, because its not worth the risk to your safety trying to retrieve it and the authorities will most likely not have this high on their list of priorities.
I think your best bet is to get an invite to purchase the One Plus One. Its only $299 and it puts nearly all flagship devices tn shame. It's getting popular in the Dev and modding community.

If you are able to get invited, PLEASE send me one as I'll be looking for a new phone within the next year.
