Nexus 4 Stock Camera - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help restoring my camera to its original state. I applied the camera mod to increase bitrate but it FC's my camera. So I flashed the "stock" settings again and I still have the problem. Any way to just flash a completely stock camera apk? I'm on CM10.1 if that matters.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

No need to flash it. Use a root file explorer to copy the stock camera.apk to /system/apps and change permissions to rw-r--r--.

Thats not correct for his issue. The mod modifies the media profiles and not the camera apk so replacing the camera apk won't help a single thing.
You need to replace your media profile with the stock one you had before you flashed the camera enhancement files. Or flash a new ROM.

Thanks, is there a default media profile I can refer to? If not will my issue resolve itself tonight after I flash the next nightly for CM?

If you dirty flash the next nightly it should over write the modification and put back in the original media profile.
If it doesn't then you will have to perform a clean install and wipe first. But I am almost 100% positive the mod will be over written with a dirty flash and you will be back to normal.

Thank you very much Monk. I'll try and report back after.

Dirty flashing worked and my camera's back to normal. I don't think it's worth double the data size for what everybody is saying is a placebo mod.

I am cameraless!
I received my phone yesterday and started playing with it. While deleting a couple of the google apps (via TBP) I think I accidentally deleted that of the camera (which I can only guess would have been the Gallery apk?)
I have downloaded necessary files and all I need to do is change permissions but I don't have the option
Can someone help shed some light?

No option to change permissions

Use a better file manager, Solid Explorer for example. Make sure you enable root access

OK so, downloaded solid explorer, changed permission on both apk and odex to rw-r-r and the three .so files and nothing. App does not show up on my list
EDIT: Now both Gallery and Camera are showing BUT when I tap on them it tells me "Unfortunately Gallery has stopped."

Didn't help, I keep getting the same message... I had a couple of frozen items on TBP and defrosted to see if that would solve the issue but nop.... Something that seems so easy has taken me all day to fix :crying:
EDIT: maybe this piece of info helps someone know what is happening; when i uninstall or modify any app it gives me that same error "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped."
Followed instructions of installing the 4.2Camera zip as well as the toolkit zip via recovery with no avail.
Deleted the apps, added them. No luck
Copy pasted the lib (.so) files and changed permissions (replaced existing). No luck
Rebooted a million times. Did a data, cache and dalvic cleanup and No luck
I had installed instragram and then deleted it. I also installed Quickpic (doubt any of these have anything to do with the problem though).
EDIT 2: Problem SOLVED!!! I updated gapps with this file which seems to be the latest version and voila! Camera is back to proper working order!

[Q] Manually installing system app, reboot, no .odex

I recently rooted my stock AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 (MF3) and have been implementing a few improvements that I've found on this thread but have run into a strange error twice already when trying to replace an existing system app with a modded version.
With other phones in the past I simply paste an app into system/app and set RW-R-R permissions, then reboot the phone. During the next boot it usually says "android is upgrading 1 of 1" and creates a matching .odex file in the /system/app folder and everything works perfect.
So far I've tried to replace the SecPhone.apk with a version that allows call recording, and the TetheringProvision.apk with one that will let me tether on my AT&T phone. In both instances I reboot, but it never says "upgrading", nor is an .odex file created, and then the app fails to work. With the TetheringProvision.apk I also kept getting a "failed to change permissions" error in ES File Explorer, so I retried with Root Explorer, and SMangager but none of them could change the permission on the apk once it was in the system/app folder (yes /system was mounted R/W). I'm not sure if this is related to the above problem or not.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? I have frozen most of the Samsung bloatware apps and while I've been careful, I suppose I could have accidentally frozen something important, but everything other than these replacement system apps seems to be working perfectly. I thought android automatically checked for new apps on every boot, but apparently not on my phone.
Is there any way to force an app check on boot? Thanks for the help.
So I guess no one else has had a similar issue...

For an Odexed system, an Odex file is required to be installed along with the original file. So if a mod is created for an "Odexed" system, it will have a .odex file accompanying it that must be installed also. Installing a deodexed file into an odexed system doesn't work unless the deodexed file is split down into its 2 parts again (original file, plus .odex file)..
This was very helpful. Is there a guide you could recommend to me on how to make an odex file from the modded apk that I have so that I can get these programs working on my S4?

As the other person replied - with root access, you can download ES File Explorer, or Root Browser, give the app root access via SuperSU, navigate to the System > apps folder, find the file(s) you want, copy/move them where you need.

As long as you have the appropriate odex file along with it and you know how to do it - it should be fine. You have to know how an APK file works, Applications are basically glorified ZIP archives. The java code is stored in a file called classes.dex and this file is parsed by the Dalvik JVM and a cache of the processed classes.dex file is stored in the phone's Dalvik cache.
An odex is basically a pre-processed version of an application's classes.dex that is execution-ready for Dalvik. When an application is odexed, the classes.dex is removed from the APK archive and it does not write anything to the Dalvik cache. An application that is not odexed ends up with 2 copies of the classes.dex file--the packaged one in the APK, and the processed one in the Dalvik cache. It also takes a little longer to launch the first time since Dalvik has to extract and process the classes.dex file.
If you are building a custom ROM, it's a really good idea to odex both your framework JAR files and the stock apps in order to maximize the internal storage space for user-installed apps. If you want to theme, then simply deodex -> apply your theme -> reodex -> release.

browser in qslide apps for vzw g2

As all of us vzw g2 owners know, verizon left out the browser app in favor of chrome. But they didnt enable qslide with chrome. We do have the stock browser in a flashable zip but it doesn't show up in qslide. Untill now lol. I take no credit for this i just figured it out through trial and error. Ok first flash the stock browser zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452399 then copy this browser apk https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0lbyXDReetfdmg2Zm8tU0dRd1k/edit?usp=sharing to system and reboot, bingo stock lg browser in qslide. Don't forget to hit thanks if this helps you out.
Great! Although the icon works fine for me. What I'd like to see is Mobile hotspot in quick settings...

Honestly I am pretty sure you don't have to flash the browser zip before putting the apk in the system/app folder. Just rename the apk you provided to LGBrowser.apk and put it in system/app, also changing the permissions to match the other system apps. The zip is simply flashing the same file without the qslide properties that are built into the apk you have linked to. For some reason those properties were not included in the zip scott posted for the LG browser. Great find overall! Just wanted to clarify that people dont need to flash the zip... just use the apk you provided named correctly with the correct permissions in the system/app folder and reboot. Sweetness!!!

Not my experience. I tried pushing & renaming just the apk when Scott first posted it. Fixed permissions, reboot & the icon didn't even show up. Booted back into twrp to wipe cache/dalvik & fix permissions from there & when I rebooted the icon was present but gave an immediate FC when selected. I gave up on it & grabbed the aosp browser from the play store.
This has been the only way I could get the stock lg browser to work at all. Having it in qslide is just icing on the cake.

The key to your statements is you were using Scott's apk which is not this apk posted. Compare the apk in Scott's zip to this one. I am talking about pushing this apk into the system without flashing Scott's zip. But if you needed Scott's zip flashed first and then pushing this apk I suppose there must be something going on in the background I'm not aware of. In my experience they are different apks. Scott's zip flashes the first browser version into system/app folder and then all we are doing is then pushing this second version apk and overwriting it. So basically the first step is unnecessary imho. But whatever works thanks to the op for this other apk.

Okay figured it out. I am running clean rom and idk if the scotts rom one works with this one or not. SO...I just took the LGBrowser apk from the op and dropped it in the system/app folder. That worked like a charm...and Now all browsers working and qslide etc. I would suggest a nandroid which is why I fixed mine also rename the LGBrowser.apk in the system/app folder to LGBroswer.bak or something before replacing it with the one in the op so if it gets jacked you can back it up. Anyways good luck to you all and thanks op.

Ok so i did alittle googling and as far as i can tell i could be a problem with the site or your network especially if its a guest network. But one of the fizes seems to be clearing browser cache, cookies and history (id clear data in the app manager too for good measure) if that doesn't work google the first few words of the error cuz there were a ton of entries and one should have a fix that works for u. Either way i really dont see why just installin an apk would cause that so you may have some deeper issues with the network where your at?

Awesome dude. Confirmed it worked!
Manually copy apk over and change permissions to match other files, then flash the LGBrowser.zip. Then it shows up in QSlide apps and floats. So nice.
I've been missing this since I got my G2. I watched a video and seen the floating browser and QuickNotes. Ran and picked up my Verizon phone and found they removed the browser.

[Q] Lg Gallery Application not Reinstalling

Hello all,
My device is an ls980 running rooted, stock kitkat. About a week after the ZVC update (kitkat), my Lg Gallery application stopped working. It would not open, giving me an error message saying that "gallery has stopped." So I tried an "uninstall" application from the market to uninstall the stock app, and then I attempted to restore/reinstall it again. Every attempt I have made has been unsuccessful and the app cannot be installed.
So my question is: how can I get the Lg Gallery application reinstalled and working properly?
Thank you, I appreciate anyone's help greatly.
How did you uninstall the stock gallery from the play store when it's not available on the play store and I'm sure the reason it's not installing is because the app needs to be placed in the system/priv-app folder and needs to be given the correct permissions
Sent from my LG-D800 running stock kk, rooted with philz using XDA app
I uninstalled the app using a "system app uninstaller" application. The APK file is still located in my system/priv-app folder, and I have even tried installing it from there using root explorer. What permissions need to be applied?
