I have also noticed that. Even with es explorer I am not able to send apk files. Work around which I use is to change the extension to .mp3 or anything which can be sent and change back to. Apk in receiver phone.

try to rename file.. example by yur fav file explorer rename subwaysurfers.apk tu subwaysurfers.txt and try to send it via bluetooth.. i think its security reason why you cannot send apk files

It works fine using Root Explorer.

I had problem sending apk file to my friend too. Doesn't work even if using Root explorer. I'm using nexus 4 while my friend is using galaxy nexus.

Create a Dropbox link?

It seems to be inbuilt limitation by Google, possibly to prevent malicious users to push malware onto other people's phones.

I installed Bluetooth transfer app and now it works well. Tried transferring apk from laptop to phone and it works fine.

Same problem here.
If I try to send an apk between a Galaxy Nexus (JB4.3) and a Nexus 7 (2012 JB4.3) the transfer fails. (es file explorer / apk share / root browser)
Seems that the bluetooth just blocks apk transfers. If I rename the file, it works.
Is a 4.3 security feature? I use to transfer apk before the 4.3.

I think it is a google limitation for prevent to share the pirate apps

Stopped by for a chat about 8 years later, yah rename worked back then during gba color and stuff now doesn't work

Bluetooth File transfer Problem. Help!!

I tried Sending a .apk file to my dell xc35 via bluetooth but it says "remote device rejected your request". But i can share songs and pics. What is the problem? Is there a solution to this?
Install "Bluetooth file transfer" on blade and then it accepts any file.

Just rename it on mp3 or png ^^

Maybe the android version is different and it doesn't support ur apk

Bluetooth connections only exchange data. So apks working on one will still get sent to the other as its only a file. Whether the other is able to open it or not is a different case. Try pairing first and then send.

Ofcourse it was paired. Nothing worked though.
Just rename the file wirh. Mp3 or. Png, i have solved this prob like this when i was not able to transfert zip and apk

I don't think so. My friend has a nexus s with official ics and when he tries to send me an apk it says on his phone that the receiving device does not support it
Sent from my Supernatural Blade
I was too having this problem but by using root explorer pro version it solved
But even then if the problem is not solved install a custom rom

Maybe because u were using root explorer. My friends phone is unrooted because "he's afraid of bricking it" . Lol. What a waste of a good phone

Seriously. I can't imagine what I would've tried with it.

@OP. If you don't have Root explorer or don't want to purchase it,try Explorer from SpeedSoftware. Its just a free version without root access.
Sent from my ZTE Blade using XDA app
or you can put it in a zip file and send it, or reboot your phone
try to use BTF from Medieval Software, it's free

I might be able to send files by root explorer but what about recieving?
try the above app I wrote.
you can download Bluetooth file transfer from google play
Maybe you need to tick the box under applications in settings that says 'unknown sources' to allow you to receive apps from sources other than the market, that may be what's causing the issue with the .apk transfer. Give that a shot!

Can I adb restore games from another phone to this?

I'm getting this phone right when it comes out and gonna be using it unrooted for awhile. I'm fine with everything except my game data. Too lazy to start all over again so my question is if I can use adb method to backup games from my Galaxy Nexus to the new Nexus 4 when it comes out. Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can scavenge through the APK files and transfer the data from that app to your phone, but then again... you might need root access for that

I would also like to do the same thing.
OK, I think I have a solution here lol... Drag the entire app APK from your galaxy nexus and put it on a cloud service (dropbox, drive, etc). Then, go into that cloud service and install the app ( the APK file) and all your data should be transfered with that app.

Do you have to be rooted to get to the apk files initially?

Have you tried it? Because from what I know, there is another file that is stored with all the data and apk file for actual app itself. So by just taking the apk file out, you are basically doing nothing but just installing the apk. That's just what I know.

Where is my system folder and files

Unlike my previous galaxy phones, where Samsung conveniently allows access to system files via Settings, there seems to be no such acess on Nexus 7. Where on earth can I access them?? Why Google make this so hard?
Download es file explorer.

Thanks, but can't I do that without using 3rd party apps? Why stock Android doesn't allow viewing system files directly?
So inconvenient

ES File Explorer works fine for this. Your device needs to be rooted to get R/W access otherwise it won't work. If you are rooted then in ES hit the app menu and tap Root Explorer. It should prompt for superuser access and then set all to RW. Should let you move apk to system/app folder now.

Worked perfect for me....
Install keyboard like normal apk & themes apk files too..
Then copy paste lines given on thread to buildprop. Also put AndroidEmoji.ttf to System/fonts (backup old one), set permission 644. Reboot!!

How do i set the permission 644?
I did all the things but still no emoji.
I get the keyboard but can't se the emoji. blank spaces... :silly:
Edit: got root browser and changed the settings to 644. But no Emoji.
Cant see them on the phone but when i send them people can see them.
I have a solution for this. But I can't post it... odd!
My girlfriend's got an unrooted S4. Is there any possibility for her to get a newer LG Keyboard without rooting her device?
Thanks in advance

Sorry mate… don’t think so… you see, you have to get access to the system folder i order to copy and alter the files. But if you figure out a way to do that without root… then good for you mate. Good luck… :good:
