I am just looking for suggestions on which kernel to use with my stock 4.2.1 Rom? There seems to be two in my mind (Motley and Mako), but I don't know which one to use. If you guys don't mind, can you guys give me a couple feedback on these two kernels or any other kernels. Thank you for your time
Franco. Love it. Tried others and I always go back.
There's not such thing as best kernel
Don't ask
This will only start a flame war over which kernel has the most "bleeding edge" features. Besides you have a crackflasher's dream phone with a growing dev community second to none (except maybe gnex for now).
Apologies
Sorry I should have rephrased the title. I am just asking for suggestions and your experience with different kernels. I have no intention of flaming a war or creating a poll. I am new to the nexus 4 forum and just need a little help. Sorry for inconvenience
franco kernel
franco.
but not a good combo with CM mod.
just like... cuties:

Agree, would prefer trinity and CM.
Thread closed. There is no such thing as a best kernel or anything to that point. Everyone has an opinion and this won't help you choose what's best for you so please read the first post's from the kernel threads and decide if they have the features that are best for you then try them yourself. It's an easy process so you could even try them all.
Thanks

Hi all
I am new here, and yes I am not a developer, as well as, I am so happy that I have been moved to SGS3 after using iPhone. Android world is amazing. The reason I am posting such thread, its because I want to share my little experience with ROMs for the SGS3.
I used to use the Cyanogenmod 10 the nightlies, with some issues and bugs are there, and I was looking for such ROM which can handle the Daily use without any problem, finally I found this one Resurrection Remix JB v3.1.2, which is the best in my opinion for those who are using the CM10 nightlies until they CM team come out with the stable mode.
it is in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815285
I used it, it is stable, battery friendly and smooth, no issues at all.
I am just sharing my experiences, because I was mistaken when I was thinking about CM10 is the best yet, but when I try the RR I found out, the truth.
I would like to thank the management of the forum, and the members as well, and I am so sorry if there is any typos mistakes or such things, because my native language is the Arabic.
I am from Dubai, and I am so happy to be a member here.

Still, the words "best" and "rom" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. "best rom" threads aren't allowed whether you're asking for the specifically or you're stating which the best rom is. It's all a matter of one's own preferences.
Not one of these threads again.

Welcome to xda.
First of all, congratulations on your phone choice. It was certainly a change for the better. :good:
Now, on the topic of ROM preference, please visit this thread and read about "Best ROM" is considered around here.

Hope you enjoy Android as much as we all here do. I picked S3 over iPhone 5 and do not regret my decision one bit.
So sorry guys, I wanted to help others. Thats why I used these words.
Again and again, Thank you very much.
appreciate all the replies.

So I'm coming from the Nexus 4, where pretty much anything goes hacking wise and just wanted to get a few things straight about kernels before i re-dive into that world.
How does kernel compatibility work? obviously you need a kernel made for your specific device model, but beyond that, how to they mix and match with different ROMs/ how do you know? Right now i'm running a port of the google edition 4.2.2. If it's based off a stock ROM can i proceed openly as though it was like my nexus 4 and any kernel goes?
Thanks in advance.
Pretty much the same. Stick to kernels for your device. And as far as this one or that one, try a couple and see the results for yourself. It is different from person to person. I prefer KT kernels always had no issues, but the others maybe better for you.

Thanks, but you're saying that any kernel for my device will work with any rom? Samsung's stock TW notwithstanding
UW ..I am saying, I have with my device 4 different kernels I can use on any rom. TW based. And 2 for aokp..and use them accordingly.

Hey guys, i just wanna ask for a good rom, i want a rom with Good Battery Life, Better performance than stock also a good Kernel for all this, ive searched and so far majority of people ive seen run P.A and Franco's Kernel, however P.A is on 4.3 and i would love to hop in with 4.4 , also it has some features i like, mainly all i want is Halo and "Expanded Desktop", with pie functionality.
Anyone got any good ideas, ive looked at Purity, which has everything i want except Halo, so is their any way to get that.
Also can i dupe the awesome performance seen in RastaKat
Thanks in advance, and sorry for all these questions!, im new...

Asking for a "good" ROM/Kernel is another way of asking for a "best" which is not allowed on XDA. Please head over to the development section and see which "best" suits your needs.

So i just got the g2 about a week ago, coming from an iphone and getting back into android. I was curious what the most stable rom was for the g2 and which ones were good in your opinions. Also i have looked a little into rooting it but there seems to be more steps than i temember with my droid x2. Could someone post the steps or link me to a thread that thoroughly describes it, all help is appreciated, thanks friends

If this thread is open long enough, every rom available will be suggested at least once. If there was a "best rom", there would only be one rom. Are you capable of understanding this fact? That's why threads like this are forbidden on xda.

I understand the flaw in the way i put the title, but i was asking about the most stable rom. Also i was asking people for their opinions of the rom, so yes i would get multiple rom suggestions. Yes i am capable of understanding the fact, thank you for the condescending reply on my first post here though i feel very ****ing welcomed
Personally for me I am using the Inverted Energy ROM with furnace kernel and I couldn't be happier. Sure its not a kitkat rom, but it runs smooth and reliably. If you have a d801 device check Energy ROM out.

For what it's worth, I'm using Paranoid Android on the VS980 and its pretty great. Very vanilla right now, but I like it that way.
Also, put your armor on because that's just XDA's schtick. You'll usually get ridiculed before you are given a kind hand and pointed the right direction. It's a great place to find resources, but it can also be a nightmare to locate the people who aren't riding around the forum with their noses up.

For the best stability a stock or LG Flex based rom is recommended
Also, by far the best kernel for this phone is Dorimanx' kernel (for stock and flex roms)
Recently, the developer of the most popular rom quit developing his rom further, but it's still the best in my book. If you want stability, simplicity and lightweight I'd definitely look at either Cloudyfa's Flex rom or just keeping it stock, rooting it, debloating it yourself and using some of the great Xposed modules that are available for the G2.
Thanks for the recent suggestions guys they've great. I have the g2 from Verizon so its the vs 980. Are the flex roms the ones that can be used on any of the models? I have just rooted my device so I'm looking into how to debloat. Ive usually preferred a rom over the stock. And as far as the different kernels go, im completely in the dark about them, I've never experimented with loading new ones on my phone. My game consist of just flashing the roms. With my droid x2 it had the removable sd card but with the g2 I'm a little confused on the route to take when flashing the rom itself
Just one advice.
use any stock ROM and avoid kitkat for now because they don't include native applications like quickremote.
I've tried many roms including kitkat roms and finally came back to a ROM based on stock firmware.
good luck.
We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. Depending on your use and your liking what is best for you may not be best for someone else and vice-versa. Head over to the development section try some out and see which "best" suits your needs.

I didn't see a thread about this yet, so I hope it's alright to ask.
Getting my 6p tomorrow, (Knock on wood) Was wondering what Roms everyone is running, and what you've noted about them. Fastest ones, Longest Lasting ones, Smoothest ones, most stable ones, most features, or perhaps a best mix of things you like. Obviously we are all different, but I like to hear what others say and it helps me narrow it down and avoid spending 2 weeks trying one random rom after another.
Just want to see some community feedback
There's already a thread on this in the General forum...
ROMs and Kernels - Which are you running and why?
