HDMI output. The hdmi output on the nexus should output 1080p right? I only seem to be getting 720p but I was wondering if it was just my hdmi cable since it is old and came with a Motorola Atrix 2.

Hi from what I am reading the nx10 HDMI out is only mirror image that will not fill the HDTV format. Is this a hardware issue on nexus 10 end or can it be corrected in a software update..? I would actually buy and rent movies with Google play if I can watch them full screen on my TV.
If Google fixes this issue I see more people utilizing their movie service.
Till then I am using Microsoft Xbox.
Thanks...joe
When I connect my N10 to my plasma TV it reports 1080p which is the maximum this TV supports so I think it's device dependent based on the max of either the TV or tablet but given the resolution of the N10 the TV is likely to be the limit.

If you watch movies it does automatically fill the entire screen. It also switches to a slightly different mirroring mode where it doesn't technically mirror.
Games etc. don't fill the entire screen though. Neither does the launcher etc.
1080p
Also confirmed 1080p output to TV from my nexus 10, with a HDMI cable that is a few years old from when I picked up a droid charge a couple of years ago.

It will fill my entire screen, and has same behavior not mirroring during movie playback. Other apps like mx player mirror during playback. Launcher did when in landscape mode but not in portrait.

I am not sure why I dont get full screenI use a a cable that supports 1080P AND I have to use a hdmi switch because my tv only has 3 inputs and I needed a 4th. When I play the movie trailer in play store it does not widen the screen. I still have black bands on sides like I do when nexus mirrors image. My tv supports 1080p. Is a sony xbr2 40". A little old but if my bluray player is fine why not nexus.
Thanks..joe
This is what I am getting and hope there is some sort of fix

On my LG Full HD 1080p 37" TV, the mirrored display from my Nexus 10 to the TV is always coming out with black edges roung the screen ie not being displayed in full screen. The only options in terms of aspect ratio for the TV are 4:3 or 16:9 when connected to the tablet. The Zoom1 and Zoom 2 options can only be accessed when viewing normal TV or DVDs. Is there a way I can fill up the black edges on the TV with what's being displayed from the tablet? The only way i get full screen is when i watch videos from Google Play Movies. Doing some research on the micro-hdmi I came across some Info about the cable. Standard cable supports up to 720p/1080i, High-speed data micro-hdmi will support 1080p, 4k, 3d and high color. Source = http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro-HDMI

This is really annoying. You can play a video using HDMI out to a TV and it plays full screen, as long as it is from Google movies. However if you try and play a video of your own it isn't full screen. It is missing about 3cm each side. I can't work out why or how to change it as it has the ability to. Any ideas?
Thanks

Does it downscale the image to 1080p when you are in the UI? If not it might be that whatever app you are using is not yet set up for the N10.
via Tapatalk
Yeah it cuts the side bits off. Only time you get full screen is via Google movie store

Right, that's really odd. Wonder why they wouldn't have system-wide downscaling?

Yup. Huge bars on the side and can't get rid of the bottom bar like the tf700 can. I hope this is fixed. However, I messed with my bravia TV a little it is much better now. I'll post pics.

I'd also like to know.
I get sound, but both the sound and video stutter in Google play movies. Tried ice age and planet earth, both stuttered badly. Hoping this is just one of those things that will be fixed in an update.
I have had my Nexus 10 for about a week now and really like it. This YouTube issue is something that needs to be addressed. Ice Age plays full screen perfect 1080p smooth as silk. YouTube plays at lower quality in a black frame. It also plays on the tablet screen when plugged into HDMI to TV. Make the YouTube app perform like the Google Play app please
Any news on that?
I find that the youtube app won't go full screen when HDMI is plugged in, any solution?
I'm reading everywhere that ppl say it's not outputting fullscreen.
At the chance of being simply wrong: did you ever take into account that the usual TV with its 1080p resolution (1920x1080) has a 16:9 screen ratio but the tablet with its 2560x1600 resolution clearly has a 16:10 screen reatio.
So it simply does not match. If just mirroring what is seen on the tablet... it will always have those black bars on the TV screen.
Or am I just not understanding what everyone barks about?
The transformer it's also 16:10. It removes the bars and (no need for them on the TV) and voila. It also blanks the screen when watching videos. That's one area where the tramsformer is a lot better, but it's a simple fix. You know, I'm not picky but it really annoys ke that such a simple thing to fix has not been addressed. How can you test the HDMI and not notice that and at least give some basic options. That type of thing is inexcusable. Watch them never give us any options.

Is there anyone on 4.2.1 who can actually play Google play movies with hdmi out onto their TV?
Mine just stops at the "HDMI Screen" when I try to play the free ice age with a progress spinner in the middle, and other logs in logcat either that might explain the issue ( no logs at all). It's connected to my Samsung D8000 which is definitely HDCP compliant. I've never had it working. The film will play fine though when HDMI is not plugged in. It's really annoying cause I refuse to buy or rent films if I can't hook up to my TV.

I have no problem watching movies or TV shows with the Google Play Movies app, connected to a 46" Sharp TV. Audio & video are fine. There is the occasional stutter, but nothing too bad. I've only played shows off battery - I haven't tried it while charging yet, though I can't believe that would make a difference.

Just tried again on my TV and on my computer monitors, all are fully HDCP compliant. It's either the tablet or the cable cause it doesn't work with any of those screens, just stops at spinner on HDMI Screen every time.
Unfortunately I don't have another device or another cable to rule out which is not the cause.

I tried hooking up my Nexus 10 to my TV today via HDMI and found that the video out doesn't work properly. My TV gets a black screen but audio works fine. I know the device's HDMI out works fine because I can hook it up to my computer monitor and it works fine. I'm not trying to play any copy protected content, I'm just trying to get my display mirrored. As an additional note, I've gotten my Galaxy SIII to hook up to the TV fine.
Any idea what may be wrong?
Just came across this myself.....
Maybe it tries to display a resolution it doesnt support?
Does your computer monitor have 2560x1600 resolution support?

No, my monitor is a 1920x1080 resolution, and my TV can go up to 1080p as well. I tried on the TV to set the scale to "unscaled", "automatic", and "widescreen"
The Nexus 10 converts the hdmi output to 1080p automatically to be compatible with your HDMI tv. I just read that one, not sure if it is compatible with lower resolution televisions.
SeattleAndrew, by chance are you attaching to a Panasonic HDTV? I ask as there is another thread in the Nexus 10 forum on this same subject. In that thread a number of Panasonic owners had varying results.
I also have seen differences with HDMI connection between manufacturers. Samsung seemed to accept a wider array of HDMI/Device connections than Panasonic.
Just my 2 cents.

Well, been looking everywhere can't find any output specs on it specifically. Just general reference to standard converted output to 1080p. Learned way more than I ever wanted to about hdmi. Maybe most people think the hdmi output is 1080 because they are using a standard cable rated for 720p/1080i when a high speed hdmi cable is required for 1080p, 4k, 3d and high color. I guess you guys that have done it would know more. So someone not getting the connection/performance with higher resolutions might need a hs data micro-hdmi cable? 2650 / 1600 = 1.60
1920 / 1080 = 16 / 9 = 1.78
So I'm guessing that the screen fills top-to-bottom, but you have blank edges on the left and right? If you zoom, you're going to be losing some of what's on the top and bottom edges, just to fill the left and right ones.

It really does depend on your TV. I have a toshiba 1080p 50 inch and I can either have some of the screen cut off or have black bars. Some tvs have scale to fit when you plug in something externally.

Nope all 4 sides have the blank black bars ie none of the sides are filled and my TV does not have the option to zoom in or out.I'm just stuck with the 16:9 aspect ratio.

I bought my TV in 2007. Could this have anything to do with the age and model of the TV. Remember I mentioned in the earlier post that it was a 1080p Full HDTV by LG and it still works well. I use to and still have an Acer A500 tablet and when connected to the same TV via the same HDMI cable,it mirrors the display perfectly without any bars round the edges. So,I was surprised when I got a different outcome with a much powerful tablet. Must be the Nexus 10 not playing well with the TV then.

Cheers. I might do just that. But if it works with the 10.1" Acer A500, I should see no reason for the N10 not to. Its just a weird situation. I'll continue to rock the Acer as a set top box device to my TV while the N10 would remain a hand held instead.

i able to mirror the tablet to dtv fine(with 1080p output + fit to screen settings)
only concern is moving at the homescreen is a bit choppy but watching movie is fine. also why youtube doesn't allow full screen?grr
I do not have a micro HDMI cable to test it with, but with all normal hdmi inputs on both my 32" and 42" LG screen, regardless of source, i have the option of aspect ratios, zoom 1 and 2, and then the one which for me is most important, "just scan". Some sources will be larger than the screen, or smaller, and as such cut off, or black bars, but with Just Scan it does it's magic and is scaled to the size of the lcd.

Hey, wondering if anyone else is getting varied resolutions when using a micro HDMI -> HDMI cable into a TV. We have a 37" plasma 1080 capable but I only get 480 out of, and our 42" LCD only gets 720.
Both are default numbers as I haven't been able to find anyway to adjust them. Have tried stock video player, MX player and YouTube through all to no avail.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most appreciative.
Cheers

You may want to check your hdmi cable. If you have a "standard hdmi cable" , and it supports up to 1080i/720p. The type 2 "high speed data hdmi cable" supports 1080p, 3d and high color. Your tv's and tablet may support it, but you may be using a standard hdmi cable.

I haven't looked, does the n10 support 1080i?... I notice most devices and movies I look at only support "p" areas (480p, 720p and 1080p) relevant since I plan to buy a big screen LED tv with my tax return...
Cheers for the heads up, I've read in other forums that the n10 downscales to 1080, but haven't seen it first hand.
There's a few variables at play, I'll get some specs from the TV's, I haven't seen any different type of cables on eBay else I'd have got the better one (i spent $15 on this one).

I purchased a $10 off of Amazon. Supposedly a HS cable. Real thick and almost 6 feet long.. Nice, but the TV I had planned to use it on, it did not output sound! 2 other sets, and the sou d works fine. I read here that it is a cable/tv combination problem.. Plug in another hdmi and the sound will work fine. Haven't tried it since I hooked it into the stereo via blue tooth.
I am planning to buy a small converter attachment,(pigtail cable or plug) that way I can use the hs hdmi cables I already have on the tv. I am still not convinced that it isn't a problem with android, but we'll see.
has the 4.3 ota update fixed the non full screen 'issue' when connecting nexus 10 to tv via hdmi? (is it full screen now when connected?)
I've been wondering this too... No definite answer yet... I'm gonna assume that they didn't fix it
can anyone answer this?
no one knows?
will try this weekend, i keep forgetting to. my bad
Still not fixed.
I used HDMI yesterday's evening to watch my photos on TV and it was still with black stripes on the sides.
is this fixed on kitkat?

Not true mate, this is an aspect ratio issue, if you device matches the aspect ratio of you two you wont get any black lines. However android pre 4.2 used to output at 16:9 correctly to TVs regardless of your devices main screen aspect ratio, now they mirror the devices screen ratio which is monumentally idiotic.
