I got my Nexus 4 a couple weeks ago and noticed that on stock rom, data does not automatically turn on when trying to send/receive mms messages. I am currently on minco v6 with franco kernel and am still not able to. I've searched and found this thread on the gnex forums about the issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850749 Was wondering if anybody has found a way to do this on non-samsung devices? thanks
If you're using Tasker, it shouldn't be very difficult to do. If you don't have it I hear there's an almost as capable free alternative – Llama. I haven't used it so I don't know exactly how capable it is but you can try it. What I know for sure is both of these have small learning curve and require some patience in the beginning till you understand how things work. After that sky's the limit.
Sorry for the late reply been busy lately. But I looked into using tasker to turn on everytime a mms is received but people figured out that it turns data off too late in order for the mms to be automatically retrieved. In the thread I posted someone wrote a line to put into samsung phone (Even though it was in the gnex forums) so that they have that feature. I was wondering if there was anyway we could implement this into our aosp based roms.
So is there any solution for Nexus 4?
Alot of the messaging apps do this on their own. It is a normal feature for most mms apps now. Not sure why the stock app is not doing it. Could try handcent.
handcent doesn't work for me. I'm not so sure apps can overwrite it, could be wrong.

hi, ive been using super hero beta 2 and until yesterday i had no problems. but all of a sudden, every time i got a text, the most recent received message would be put before all of the messages i sent. so in the message thread, the received messages are in order but all together at the top of the thread. my sent messages are in order but all at the bottom of the thread. the messages arent in order of the conversation. its really annoying to always have to scroll up to find what someone has sent me.
i didnt think much of it because i figure a wipe would fix it. today, i wiped and installed the new jacman rom and am still having the same exact problem.
is anyone else having this problem? does anyone know how to fix it? thanks!
this has been an issue for a few people, if t-mobile is doing tower work in your area it will screw with stuff like timestamps(are those correct for both incoming and outgoing?) and order of messages
Are you using the stock messaging or chomp sms? I used to have this same problem with chomp, then I upgraded to JF 1.5 and didn't need chomp anymore. Stock messaging has never done this thus far, but I know how annoying it is.
My nstive messaging app is doing that! It was frustrating as hell I did a wipe, flashed a different Hero rom, and still. I downloaded Chomp it has no issues....its the message app that is doing it to me
I have never had this issue before (except a brief trial of chomp) and then 2 days ago it started happening to me from my gf's phone to mine. I have seen it on a Hero build, a Rogers build, Ion build, and now The Dudes Rogers build. Next step im going to check the clock on her phone and see if that may be part of the issue or something.
The only time I've ever seen this problem is when two texts are sent/received within the same minute, and they would be grouped similar to that. So, for example, if someone sends me two texts within a minute, and I reply twice to those messages, and they would group similar to the original poster.
Have we tried rebooting? Is this present across multiple SMS threads? Using simple stock firmware/messaging app, or even going as far as installing a new messanging app amd seeing those results?
In all honesty, Hero is no where near perfect right now and probably won't be for a long while. It was never meant to go on the G1 so we can't expect perfect results just yet. Try using a different ROM, and see what results you get.
What I think you might want to try first, however, is to not use network provided values for the clock. Try using the phone's clock values. You can change this in Settings->Date and Time. Erase all threads, and chat away. Let me know the results.
@brandenk
I've been using TheDude's build for over 2 months now, and I've never experienced problems like this. If this is so common place across all these builds, have you seen the same results on a stock build?

My GF's G1 started having messages appear out of order a couple/few days ago as well. I'm in the Orlando area. I figured it's T-Mobile screwing with the configuration of their messaging servers as someone mentioned earlier. Hopefully it clears up soon.
Time fixes everything
the problem was happening with the stock messaging app. just appeared out of no where. it doesnt even happen on every conversation, it happens to the three or so i text most often. my time stamps in the messages are correct, the other person's messages usually have a pattern of being 4 exactly 4 hours behind, but some times they just get jumbled with random time stamps.
i tried the date & time thing then a restart and im still having the same problem..
Same thing keeps happening to me, I am on the Super Hero v2 build and it also happened to me on the v1 beta build.
I switched back to ION yesterday and it stopped...and switched back and it started instantly again...Coincidence ?
Everyone is saying it's happening on every build, but I have only experienced it on Hero.
More info
Apparently, as far as my GF has noticed, it is only happening with MY messages to her, not other contacts. I've got Sprint, she's obviously on T-Mobile. Anyone else notice if it's only from certain (non-T-Mobile) customers? I suspect it's a particular SMS exchange server screwing up the timestamps.
When I had this problem it was from a tmobile number(one of my faves) and a verizon number so I'm not sure that its carrier related
My own fault all along.
Internet has worked on every build i've tried so far with no problems, and it seems that data disconnects are a thing of the past, but i've never been able to send or recieve MMS, except once when i first loaded a Loaded a build i sent and recieved an MMS from my Girlfriend.
Anyways, i was having trouble with youtube too, so i was looking on the web for a solution, and found that youtube needs more than 1 permission in Droidwall to be able to stream the video's.
Suddenly it clicked that to send MMS you need an internet connection, and my Droidwall was blocking it. Enabled "Messages" in Droidwall and bingo, send & recieve no problem.
I guess that the time i sent one before i hadn't put Droidwall on before i sent the message as i'd just loaded the build.
May not help anyone, but for those of you who use Droidwall, make sure that "Messages" is Enabled, i've been overlooking it for the past 3 months lol
Thanks to all the Dev's that have made Android on the HD2 possible, it just seems to get better every day.
Edit..
Ooops, this was meant to be in General Discussion, not Q&A, any chance a Mod could move it if they see this.
I've tried searching around and I haven't found a solution yet for getting Split MMS on either apps, whether it be stock MMS, or sliding messaging.
As title states, I can't get split MMS. It only works as one big message, but when I had my old device (d2usc) it could split messages very easily on either app. It was a CDMA variant but I doubt that matters, or does it?
All I'm looking for in this thread is for someone to share a way to get Split MMS to work on Sliding Messaging, I don't really use or care for MMS to be honest. I enabled it in both of the apps' settings, but no luck. Advice?
Nexus 4 running the latest AK kernel (6/26) on Illusion ROM.
I send out the same text to a group of people quite often and I get a message saying messenger is sending a large amount of messages do you want to allow this? I have to click on it for each message that goes out. Is there any possible way to change the limit? I know you used to be able to set it to anything you want in settings/security but it's not there anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is so annoying.
Have you tried GoSMS Pro?
Maybe I've never sent to as many as you, but I've never encountered that warning or behavior. I've used GoSMS for several years.
I've only seen this when I send many messages in quick succession (either with Google Messenger or something like Tasker). There should be a checkbox that says to always allow.
I'm also looking for a solution. I was using ResurrectionRemix (a CM based ROM) and it has an option to set the text restriction. So, it CAN be done. We just need to know WHERE the code is so that it can be changed. I can't find any search results explaining how to accomplish this. That SMS Limit Unlock app doesn't work on later ROMS.
After hours of searching today - it appears that the setting has been moved into the framework?

I hope I'm wrong as I'm no Android dev.... But, if I'm correct the only way I know of to "fix" it is to make the change in a custom Android build/ROM.
This SUCKS as I use mass texting for business purposes (communicating with many individuals who sign up for contract work). I really like Android N (along with AndroidPay) - but, looks like I'll be going back to M (on a custom ROM)...
If anyone locates/determines a way to alter that file using RootExplorer/Sqlite or some other way - please let me know.
Hi guys, new to my Nexus 6P and I've been out of the scene a few years due to Verizon and Samsung... I have my phone rooted and am running Pure Nexus and EX Kernel. Since I didn't have the phone stock for very long, I'm not sure if my issue is with GOSMS, the ROM, Google Fi... But, I cannot send or receive anything MMS. Pictures, group messages, all cannot be downloaded. I've tried a setting or two in gosms that deal with sending MMS and MMS on t-mobile, but I'm getting nowhere. I thought maybe someone on here had a similar issue or ideas. Thanks in advance!

My wife has been having all sorts of MMS issues on her Moto X Pure... Try Textra... I installed it on her phone and everything works perfectly now. GoSMS is a pretty old app...might be some legacy stuff that just doesn't work with marshmallow, even if it is "current".
All Go apps are banned from the site due to security concerns. My best advise would be to remove it from your device and look for better alternatives.
