As far as I know, you can't move app data to your external sdcard without root. There's only a few apps I know of that will allow you to move the data to sdcard. Bards tale being one of them. Should you root your device, directory bind is a good choice on moving data over. Here's a link to the app and directions to use it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059890
Hope this helps.
Thank you and i want to root I just don't feel like my phone bricking and not t being able to get another one

Man the root process is totally easy. And you either do it right or you don't get root. Your phone is safe. And once you get root you don't even have to use it. It just makes your phone more accessible. If you try to root a hundred times and fail every time it will still startup just like it did yesterday morning before you did anything.

Now if you get root, just don't do anything with a root app (and you will know without doubt Cruz it prompts you) that you haven't looked up at length.

Here's a link to the guide on how to root your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940630
Some users have reported that the su file and superuser apk provided in the file did not give them proper working superuser permissions. I have provided this root zip that will help you get root should the original files don't work. Just delete the su file and superuser apk and replace those files with the ones inside this zip and place them in the same folder as the motofail2go and run the exploit again and it should work.
I did root and i am so glad i did it makes everythign easier and if we get an update for android 4.2 can i just use voodoo to keep root and update and then restore root? and thank you for convincing me to root

No problem. Just remember to install the latest safe strap recovery and make a back up of your stock ROM before you change anything or flash a ROM. Otherwise if you make a mistake you'll have to flash the stock firmware and reroot your phone.
Yes you can use voodoo ota root app to maintain root should we get a 4.2 update. Although its not guaranteed to work. Keep that in mind.

Has anyone gotten their fascinate rooted after the OTA Update? I uses to use z4Root but.this is no longer working. It goes rhough the steps but none of the root apps can get super uswr access. I prefer one touch as I dont feel comfotable typing in all the commads for it to be hooked up to the pc
Dirrk's EZ Root v0.2
I was able to edit the START_ROOT.bat file in Dirrk's EZ Root v0.2 so the it would pause for 120 seconds instead of 60 seconds after the first phone reboot. Then, after the reboot, unplug the USB from the phone and reconnect it. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

there is a 1 click guide on i believe android central that is very easy. all you do is plug in your phone to a cpu download the .zip and open a file, then leave your phone alone for about 5 minutes and its done. it worked for me when z4 failed.. that was the first time i used anything other than z4 and was a little concerned but it was as easy as z4.. if not easier seeing as that z4 caused my phone to lock up a few times while it was in the process
EDIT: Here is the link.. you will need to register at android central to get the file but its very easy.

This worked! I did do two things as it would error in the beginning. I changed the pause time in the file on the reboot to 120 seconds instead of the 60 as suggested in one post and I had to unplug my usb cable and plug it back in after the first reboot. Easy none the less, thank you!
Okay...it wont let me edit cause im a newb. The root worked or so I thought but now when I run Titanium backup it says it cant acquire root access. Any Ideas on this anyone?

Check and see if you have the Superuser app in your apps list. If not, download it from the Market, and then see if your apps that require root access work or not.
Yes I have the super user APP. The apps are just saying they aren't getting root access. They are in the list as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
this worked for me, i used it last night
I was working on this last night. Z4root installs su to system/bin, while the 2nd root method installs to system/xbin. The ota changed the file permissions for su, but left the file in tact. That's why the one click mod will say your rooted (it sees the su file), but apps won't have root access.
I had to go old school and chmod the su file in system/bin rebooted and got root access again.
For anyone that used a one click root method like z4 root, and still hasn't done the ota update un root the phone first!
On the road but I will post instructions on how I re-rooted in a few hours as well as the specific files needed.
*actually from what I recall, any files needed are included in the one click root mentioned above.

**Follow instructions in this post http://forum.androidcentral.com/526222-post739.html
except, when you get to the portion that says
cd /system/xbin , replace that with cd /system/bin
(I believe only z4root users that did not unroot need to change this, or anyone who has su copied to their /bin directory without the root.)
everything is exactly the same... It's much better linking the post than copying the info again.
My phone w/ OTA dl09 is rooted successful by using Fascinateforums method.

After having the phone for 3 weeks, today i finally temp-rooted.
Only because I needed to edit the root folder so that I can use ad-hoc internet, which stock android phones can't find. Well now it works and it feels pretty cool!
what else can I do now while I am temp rooted?

Get rid of the annoying stock apps that come with the phone
i was trying to do that just now, but when i was in the application manager the uninstall button was still darkened out..
am I supposed to go to the superuser app and give it access first?
will uninstalling those stock apps have any effects? i still plan on continuing to use the stock htc sense rom as i see nth wrong with it.
No point because you're temp rooted, after a reboot.. they come back.

true. found that out the hard way.
sucks, even the wpa_supplicant that i editted will go back to the original which means i will lose adhoc again.
now everytime i want to use adhoc i will have to temp-root, then use root explorer to edit the wpa_supplicant.
since i used visionary to temproot and it has the permroot option, would doing so allow me to save all my file settings after root explorer?
would the permroot still be revertable using the unroot option?
all this for ad-hoc internet

If you're going to 'perm-root' then don't use visionary. Use the Gfree method, it's the most current and safest. I don't have the link to the G2 wiki right now but Google should find it for you. Rooting with Gfree is at the bottom section of the wiki.
I would use this method as it seems to be the quickess and user friendly one

I'm curious, even if you're only temp rooted, wouldn't remounting /system rw make any changes permanent?

Oh thats there was a way to disable them though so they wouldn't show up or even get ran. If memory serves you would go into terminal emulator, cd to the system/app directory, and then you would pm disable the apks that you didnt want

No. It's been a while since I've even thought about NAND locks and stuff but basically the system is protected from permanent changes unless the proper key is used. When you reboot your phone the system is compared to an image of it stored on the NAND and any changes are overwritten - sort of like a system restore on windows except it's automatic at every boot. That's how I understand it working from my memory.

So do I correctly assume that s-off removes the locks?
Edit: Never mind the question, some searching paid off. Answer is yes.
So, I rooted with gingerbreak successfully (android 2.3.2). When I try to remove any bloatware from the system/app folder, it won't delete. Does gingerbreak not give us rw access of / or did I miss something?

are you using a root enabled explorer?, have you mounted /system/ as r/w?
Use titanium backup to uninstall programs
I am using a root enabled explorer. I didn't know I had to mount it in r/w. I thought it would be r/w after rooting and allowing access. How can I mount it rw? Something I can do in terminal?
I don't want to use titanium backup.

what file explorer are you using? i suggest using root explorer, it's a great app
Whoops, silly me.. I never realised that there was an option to mount it as rw. I use file expert by the way. I recommend testing it. It's very good.
Also, maybe it's time to get a listvof bloat ware that is sfe to remove. I'll edit my first post with my list in the next day or 2. If anyone has anything that they would like to add just post it and ill add it to the first list.

Reboot and try again?
I had this problem the first time and sometimes it would take longer than usual. There was once I left it to root the whole night and the next morning it was rooted, lol.
Anyway, can I ask whether does the "repair" button on SE's PC Companion restores all the bloatwares such as postcard and timescape?
Thanks in advance!
regarding removing bloatware? do we have a list here of the "Facebook Inside Xperia" APKs that we can safely remove? I know they're pretty in-your-face as the filenames under Titanium Backup says it all already, but you know it's still good to have a complete list...
yup agree
Please do look at the last post's date... Oy vey
Apps like Root Explorer (writing protected files) and Type Fresh (changing system fonts by replacing protected font files) don't work in my phone. Starting to suspect that root may be corrupt...
Any idea why this is happening? Suggestions, anyone?
Run Superuser apk and look if Root Explorer have granted root permission.

You could try to re-root. mine did the same after about a week. How long you been rooted? Have you got super user? try and run it like @emmibuzz suggested.
Okay, so heres my case i rooted my play and installed the custom ROM GBTweaked0. Since then i couldn't access my Recovery or install my old rom from my SD card. Me being a n00b, i tried uninstalling busybox, the uninstall failed and since then my apps seem to have lost root access and im missing /system/bin/sh.
Please if anyone could help me get the sh file back i'd greatly appreciate it. i just want my phone running back on my stock rom
try downloading busybox installer from the market it has every version if that doesnt work reroot or give those apps permission in superuser again

i already tried reinstalling busybox from the market and it claims it doesnt have root access even though it does. i made sure in super user
you could find the busybox files and move them manually to the correct location

i dont think that that would work either because system/bin is a read only folder. so even if i knew how to manually install busybox the way your talking about i don't think that it would let me.
never mind i flashed to stock 2.3.2 using WotanServer. Thanks for the help

yes, but like i said in my first post, i tried uninstalling busybox which deleted the sh file in my system/bin folder which must have taken root access away.
But again, it's all good now cus like i said i managed to flash back to stock 2.3.2 using WotanServer and updated to 2.3.3, rooted, restored all my apps, and now my phone is back to normal.
