Deleting Bloatware ERROR!!

Im new to forum but Ive been trolling for the past couple days. I currently rooted my Vibrant with One Click GalaxyRooter. Then purchased Root Explorer to view the hidden files and folders that I need to get to in order to remove some of the stock .apk and odex files.
Im currently in the /system/app directory and the first thing that I want to remove is that avatar icon and files. I long press the file in root explorer to delete it and it allows me to. Only problem is that when I go back or refresh the directory everything is still there even when I reboot my phone.
Any suggestion.

When using Root Explorer, on the top part of the screen, press [Mount R/O] and try again. I think that might solve the issue. Post up the results!

Forget what I said, use Mater's method. lol

I do see the Mount R/O in the top right hand section of the screen and I pressed it but it seems like it didnt do anything. It just shows my memory used / free and r/w [ Mount R/O]
I tried deleting a file still was there when I came back into the directory

You don't access the file directory. Titanium Backup will show you a list of ALL apps installed. You simply click and press uninstall. Simple, no fuss. You can even make a backup before you uninstall it in case you need it later. Done.

Use Titanium Backup like everyone said, I also had the same problem with other Root Explorers. Also be sure to delete the .zip file because it might cause problems later. Also do you know what trolling means? I think you meant lurking, because trolling implies you've been trying to get people angry.

I didn't even notice he said he had been trolling LOL. Get back troll! My brain automatically assumed lurking.

Your system is set to read only.
Follow the instructions found in this post (forgive me i'm too new to post links, and i want to give credit to the solution):

$ mount -o rw,remount -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system
Run the command from terminal, and you should then be able to delete the files that you want.

Here do this I had this happen awhile back this worked

I tried this and it didn't work as well I got a error message that said operation not permitted

Did you SU in the terminal first before you ran the command?

have you seen that 1 click root an z4root don't really make a full root of our x10s???
I was trying to put some ringtones on the notification folder (inside system/media/audio) but I was unable to do it :S it said I lack of the permissions :S

Still need to crack the shell. Use root explorer or something.

Did you install Busybox from the Android Market after rooting with z4root? I believe this is what is used to grant superuser capabilities. Root Explorer should allow you to push those files after this.

busybox wouldn't install on mine after i'd "rooted" using z4root.. and now the superoneclick won't work for me either (I've just installed JIT)...

Just use ringdroid if you like to add ringtone or notification sound. No need root. And btw z4root works good for me

I just rooted mine today. apparently there are a few versions of busybox that don't work as they should. I installed titanium after root. Load titanium, it will tell you it can't get superuser rights but will start anyway. Click the "Problems" button at the bottom of the screen and it will download a reliable version of busybox.

Didn't work for me either. When trying to download BusyBox through Titanium, I get an "install failed". Went to market and downloaded busybox from there but gives me a "your phone is rooted. Could not locate busybox".
I have an X10a through AT&T R2CA016. Do I need to debrand it before rooting?

You don't need to debrand before rooting. When you download/install Busybox from the Market, open it and it will give you the option of which version of Busybox you want to install/use, select the one you want and run it. Then you can use Titanium after that.

z4root worked fine on my x10. used superoneclick to apply shell root after that but busybox installed fine before that.

Will z4root work on my 2.1-update1 X10?
I have the Nordic Unbranded version with build No. 20A0504 or something...
I only need root to access the Japanese market, nothing else (don't care about otifications etc).
Will it work then? If I use z4root?
Oh, and it wont mess up my SD card, contacts or battery or anything like that?

old post i know....but it works fine for me....had you mounted in R/W mode? it should say R/O at the top if you have. I just copied an mp3 file straight into the internal memory (/system/media/audio/ringtones)

That what I do!
I use a "Flash tool release"
root by installing the z4root
then I i install busybox
and to get full access I install rootexplorer and reamount system to the rw the in rootexplorer
then use the "X10modtool" XDA Tool So Always when i try to change staff in my x10 I just open rootexplorer and re amount
Then use Adb shell and staff
(Work 100% for me)
The reamunting it just does not work when use seus or PPC - the ADB is close in the production version of the SE system
By the way How to turn on the ADB in the SE ?? (permittions)
In summary when you install XDA apps just add rootexplorer and reamount to rw

[Q] Need help deleting APKs PERMANENTLY

Im looking for ways to do it directly from the phone. Ive tried apps from the market(these only temporarily uninstall until next reboot). Ive tried Root Explorer and deleting from the system apps file(says read only file can't be deleted).
i need help. im hoping a custom ROM wont have to be cooked, i would really like to do it from the phone. Because straight up, i dont know how to do it. If someone out there does, im definitley willing to pay all i want is my stock glacier rom minus these apps:

I use SU file explorer as my root explorer app. if you press menu, there will usually be an option that says "mount system as r/w", that will give you the ability to delete from the system/app folder.

Install titanium for root the free version. Click problems, download the busy box update (itz necessary) go to the app you don't want and just click uninstall. Will delete permanently if you are perm rooted. To get perm root, type in visionary apk r14 in google search bar, go to the 2nd link and download visionary, then click temp root, and after that is done click on perm root. Finished if you are not rooted, download visionary first, when you open up titanium backup, it will say asking for superuser permission click on allow

just tried it. rebooted, came right back.

I removed my unwanted apps using adb after trying Root Explorer and not being able to mount system/app as R/W. Way easy.

Its WORKKS! thank you Hawaiian! it does take some time seeing how it reboots after every app, but very well worth it!

God Mode? (solved)

How can I activate God Mode on a rooted XOOM? I want to nullify some stock apps, but Root Explorer is saying they are read only.

What do you mean by god mode. You already have root. That's all you should need.

That might not be the correct term, and it may require a custom rom. Not sure, but on Project Elite for the OG Droid, there's an option under General>System called God Mode that gives you full access to files on the system. That may just be what Actngrezy calls it in PE.
I just want to rename some of the apps that were included on the XOOM. Specifically, I want to nullify the Quick Office apk so I can install the NI Adam version. When I navigate to the apk in Root Explorer, I get an error telling me it's a read only file. I never got that error with the Droid. I can change whatever I want to on that device.

Did you install superuser? if so make sure you have allowed root explorer in it. Then on the top left hand side in root explorer hit mount r/w

Im just visiting the forum to steal a few files to compare with atrix , how ever if i read your cleverly phrased question correctly and you are trying to remove/freeze some apps that came on the Xoom and you are getting read only error its because to modify anything in the /system dir you need to
1. back up anything you might remove via adb pull or via adb shell cp
2. adb shell
3.su
4. mount -o rw,remount (what ever the path to zoom block is i dont know cause i dont have one ) exp /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
from there you can remove what ever you want out of system dir
5. exp. rm /system/app/quickoffice.apk

you can also get a system uninstaller in the market that will do it for you just the same, I usually use that in case there is more included than just the apk file

I thought about the uninstaller thing, but I'd rather not uninstall anything that came on the XOOM just in case. I just add an extra .null at the end of the apk (and associated files, which are easy to find) in case I need to restore them.
For instance, the NI Quick Office app force closes when you just breathe on the freaking tablet, so I had to restore the default one.

So what to do when I'm temp-rooted?

After having the phone for 3 weeks, today i finally temp-rooted.
Only because I needed to edit the root folder so that I can use ad-hoc internet, which stock android phones can't find. Well now it works and it feels pretty cool!
what else can I do now while I am temp rooted?

Get rid of the annoying stock apps that come with the phone

i was trying to do that just now, but when i was in the application manager the uninstall button was still darkened out..
am I supposed to go to the superuser app and give it access first?
will uninstalling those stock apps have any effects? i still plan on continuing to use the stock htc sense rom as i see nth wrong with it.

true. found that out the hard way.
sucks, even the wpa_supplicant that i editted will go back to the original which means i will lose adhoc again.
now everytime i want to use adhoc i will have to temp-root, then use root explorer to edit the wpa_supplicant.
since i used visionary to temproot and it has the permroot option, would doing so allow me to save all my file settings after root explorer?
would the permroot still be revertable using the unroot option?
all this for ad-hoc internet

If you're going to 'perm-root' then don't use visionary. Use the Gfree method, it's the most current and safest. I don't have the link to the G2 wiki right now but Google should find it for you. Rooting with Gfree is at the bottom section of the wiki.

I would use this method as it seems to be the quickess and user friendly one

Oh thats there was a way to disable them though so they wouldn't show up or even get ran. If memory serves you would go into terminal emulator, cd to the system/app directory, and then you would pm disable the apks that you didnt want

No. It's been a while since I've even thought about NAND locks and stuff but basically the system is protected from permanent changes unless the proper key is used. When you reboot your phone the system is compared to an image of it stored on the NAND and any changes are overwritten - sort of like a system restore on windows except it's automatic at every boot. That's how I understand it working from my memory.

So do I correctly assume that s-off removes the locks?
