Google wallet payment. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is the second time I've gone to CVS to make an NFC payment and it fails each time. I get an error try again message. Any advice? I have a stock rooted Nexus with a T-Mobile sim.

I've run into this same issue where it won't work at CVS or toys r us, sketchy at meijer, but works great at Walgreens and 7/11. I've contacted Google and all their wallet department would say to me is that everything looks good on their end, but they are aware of software bugs in the version on our phone and a new version is coming.
BTW, I'm on at&t and I'm fully stock.

It could be that the pad at the store is broken. If it works at one store but not the other, there is not reason to think that its your phone that works. Sometimes the people behind the counter need to press the credit button before you make the transaction as well.

I'll try giving it another shot next time I'm at walgreens or maybe McDonald's

Its been working at Meijers for me.
Rooted stock ROM with at&t.

Google wallet on Nexus 7

I got my $10 prepaid Google wallet for free. Has any one know how to use it? Does it require WiFi connection?

Yes, you need and Internet Connection and NFC enabled on your Nexus 7 and just tap and pay with your Tablet!
You actually don't need an internet connection.
To the OP. There should be a white bar on the bottom of the app that leads to a tutorial.

After setting up google wallet, enabling nfc and being connected to wifi, and fallowing the tut included. I scan my nexus 7 and nothing happens...
Although it used to run, after updating, I get the message, "wallet is not supported on your device or on your carrier".
I am rooted but I wouldn't think that should matter.

Can or should I install Google Wallet on a rooted phone?
No, we do not support Google Wallet on rooted phones.

Maybe. But the same exact thing is happening on my HTC EVO LTE. It's rooted also, but Wallet ran on it before this update. First it didn't work. Then they updated it and it did work. Then they updated it and it didn't. Then it did. Now it doesn't again.
You know what keeps working? My actual plastic credit cards!

I just bought dinner at Jack in the Box literally four minutes ago using Google Wallet with my rooted Nexus 7. It had the unsupported device warning, but it didn't matter; it still worked.

Can anybody tell me some of the major companies who now have the ability to take payments from Google Wallet?
I saw a couple of posts where people they said they used Google Wallet at places like McDonalds and Jack n the Box, which made me admittedly chuckle a bit, as I pictured somebody rolling up to the drive-thru window and handing the cashier their tablet. Obviously they paid inside, but what are some other major places that support it? It's almost 3am and I want to drive to a 24/7 Walmart and brandish my Nexus 7 at the cashier when they give me the total and NFC their ass.

I don't know about your area, but the Jack in the Boxes in my area (Kirkland, WA) all have PayPass terminals hanging on the outside, no drive-thru person has to get their hands on my tablet.

I love this issuse. However, it's risky
Search for MasterCard Pay pass Locator in the store. That will sow you the places near you that accept Google wallet.

To clarify for the OP, you need an internet connection to select your card in Wallet, but as long as you have already selected one, it will work without as connection; you just can't change cards, for instance, without an internet connection.

One thing I just found out that I'm disappointed over in regards to Jack in the Box, is that the Kirkland, WA (Totem Lake) location's PayPass terminal doesn't have the chip turned on in the drive-thru, only the ones inside are on. I ate there last night, but when getting lunch today via the drive-thru, it doesn't work. The guy in the window also said the Redmond, WA location's drive-thru PayPass terminal isn't turned on, either. Let's all email Jack in the Box to get them fixed/turned on!

Straight link to submit feedback for that location, in case anybody wants to help me out...
Hi all,
Since Google has made the big announce in the past few days, about now supporting all credit cards, I decided to activate it.
But never realized that if you have a rooted device it won't let you use it to protect you.
I get that.
But is there a workaround for this?
Thanks

You can still use Wallet, the app will just say Unsupported Device because you're rooted. I use Wallet all the time on my rooted Galaxy Nexus.

No, at least not for everybody.
I have both my Nexus 7 and HTC EVO LTE rooted, and when I attempt to run Wallet, I get a message "Sorry, wallet isn't yet available on your device or in your country".
Before this update, wallet ran on both devices. I never got the chance to actually use it, but the app ran. Now it won't even open.

I've used it twice and I am rooted without any issues.

Google Wallet and Root?

Well, I got my replacement Nexus 7 today, it's the new batch, no lift anymore. It's flawless now.
Since this one is fine, I think I'll root it. But I've heard that Google Wallet doesn't work with root with the newest update.
Can someone explain?

Rooted here on the glazed rom and I can confirm that GW works. Also with the latest update (the one where you can add ANY of your credit cards) You'll get a "unsupported device" notification on the app, but that's a disclaimer. GW still works. I used it twice.
I can confirm it works since I've drained my Gift Card already... several times over by now too.
If you don't have a phone with NFC, the N7 works, but it is a little clunky since it is a bigger device. I prefer to use my phone when making purchases, but now that Wallet supports most credit cards through, I like having the option and not having to rely on the Gift Cards.

No lift for the new batch? Did i miss something?
I have nexus 7 rooted with stick and g-wallet is not working? Why isn't mine good?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
which batch? I got c80 from gamestop, and while it feels flawles, I have a 0.1-0.2mm lift in the left edge, acn barely be seen, but there is some flex there. I can live with that though. My Tf101 had significantly bigger issues- Creaked, left speaker stopped working, dock drained battery like crazy, etc etc..!
I unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7 and my prepaid card is gone! My free money... Is it really gone?

(Q) NFC

Alright I set up Google wallet, and I got a message that my device wasn't supported because I'm rooted. Everything setup fine is it going to work or am I going to look like a jack ass?

Unless someone knows of a workaround, my experience is that Google wallet will not work when rooted.
It works, it just says it's unsupported so Google isn't liable if credentials are stolen (since it's rooted, that can be a risk)
I understand Google covering it's butt, I didn't want to look like a jack ass when it didn't work
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Wallet works just fine when rooted.
I haven't had a problem with Wallet because of root, yet, if ever. Where my Google Wallet wasn't working, that was on Google's side of the problem and not mines (couldn't add card).
Been using it rooted for a while... Go for it!
Been rooted and unlocked since I got the N4 and N7, both reads unsupported, both works fine when I use it. It's just GOOG doing the CYA thing.
Cool I'm going to try it tomorrow in front of some iPhone loving coworkers.

Google Wallet in Canada

Any news about this? I really want it. I tried all the possibles solutions (MarketEnabler, etc) and still doesn't work...

It would never come to Canada. Rbc, CIBC and Rogers have started their own NFC payment service

I was also excited for the Google wallet but the fact that it's not gonna come to Canada (at least it seems) really makes me sad. Most annoying part about this is I'm with td and I'm not with Rogers...

By the end of 2014 we should see a large number of NFC payment services in Canada. I was using sure tapp app on my galaxy nexus which allowed me to make NFC purchases at McDonalds and whole green foods. I think they stopped that service ttoo, as they could not get Tim Horton's and other gift cards
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
With the new Nexus 5 and Android factory image coming with "tap to pay" in the menu settings, surely NFC/Google Wallet in Canada must be getting closer?
Looks like it will be on the basis of individual financial institutions and by carrier. At least at the start.

Working home trial

Well I got very lucky. I tried the Good home trial program where they sent me 4 different versions of Glass with the prescription frames. The package list clearly mentioned that these were non working versions.
However...The good news. One of my units is working. I have a completely functioning Glass for $50. I wanted to be upfront with Google and let them know but they said it wouldn't work forever but it's been over a month and still working. It is version XE13 of the firmware and isn't updating to anything beyond that at this point. Everything else is okay...

You could try to manually flash a newer update. If I were you, I wouldn't tell Google .
Can you show some pictures from the four different Glasses with the usb ports? Google 'destroy' the usb ports, and send them out to the people who use the trial program.
the XE13 is a software update that never got released for the 'official' explorers.
Well they didn't destroy the USB enough on one. With the right combination of chargers and cable I can charge it. I don't think I am able to get a computer to recognize it so I have to play with that to get it to work to before I can flash it.
I wonder if the fact that it is XE13 is why it won't automatically update.

Good to hear it. The sooner they release it and the competition takes it's place, the price will hopefully go down to where it is slightly more affordable. I mean, really, no one needs these. well you could sign up for the home trial program. then you will have 4 pairs of google glass (semi working) Then you let google charge you the $50 hold and sell the 4 pair on ebay then you will have more than enough for google glass or some spare cash.
