I got my $10 prepaid Google wallet for free. Has any one know how to use it? Does it require WiFi connection?

Yes, you need and Internet Connection and NFC enabled on your Nexus 7 and just tap and pay with your Tablet!

You actually don't need an internet connection.
To the OP. There should be a white bar on the bottom of the app that leads to a tutorial.

After setting up google wallet, enabling nfc and being connected to wifi, and fallowing the tut included. I scan my nexus 7 and nothing happens...

Although it used to run, after updating, I get the message, "wallet is not supported on your device or on your carrier".
I am rooted but I wouldn't think that should matter.

From the Google Wallet FAQ:
Can or should I install Google Wallet on a rooted phone?
No, we do not support Google Wallet on rooted phones.

Maybe. But the same exact thing is happening on my HTC EVO LTE. It's rooted also, but Wallet ran on it before this update. First it didn't work. Then they updated it and it did work. Then they updated it and it didn't. Then it did. Now it doesn't again.
You know what keeps working? My actual plastic credit cards!

I just bought dinner at Jack in the Box literally four minutes ago using Google Wallet with my rooted Nexus 7. It had the unsupported device warning, but it didn't matter; it still worked.

Can anybody tell me some of the major companies who now have the ability to take payments from Google Wallet?
I saw a couple of posts where people they said they used Google Wallet at places like McDonalds and Jack n the Box, which made me admittedly chuckle a bit, as I pictured somebody rolling up to the drive-thru window and handing the cashier their tablet. Obviously they paid inside, but what are some other major places that support it? It's almost 3am and I want to drive to a 24/7 Walmart and brandish my Nexus 7 at the cashier when they give me the total and NFC their ass.

I don't know about your area, but the Jack in the Boxes in my area (Kirkland, WA) all have PayPass terminals hanging on the outside, no drive-thru person has to get their hands on my tablet.

I love this issuse. However, it's risky

Search for MasterCard Pay pass Locator in the store. That will sow you the places near you that accept Google wallet.

To clarify for the OP, you need an internet connection to select your card in Wallet, but as long as you have already selected one, it will work without as connection; you just can't change cards, for instance, without an internet connection.

One thing I just found out that I'm disappointed over in regards to Jack in the Box, is that the Kirkland, WA (Totem Lake) location's PayPass terminal doesn't have the chip turned on in the drive-thru, only the ones inside are on. I ate there last night, but when getting lunch today via the drive-thru, it doesn't work. The guy in the window also said the Redmond, WA location's drive-thru PayPass terminal isn't turned on, either. Let's all email Jack in the Box to get them fixed/turned on!

Straight link to submit feedback for that location, in case anybody wants to help me out...

Hi all,
Since Google has made the big announce in the past few days, about now supporting all credit cards, I decided to activate it.
But never realized that if you have a rooted device it won't let you use it to protect you.
I get that.
But is there a workaround for this?
Thanks
Rob

You can still use Wallet, the app will just say Unsupported Device because you're rooted. I use Wallet all the time on my rooted Galaxy Nexus.

No, at least not for everybody.
I have both my Nexus 7 and HTC EVO LTE rooted, and when I attempt to run Wallet, I get a message "Sorry, wallet isn't yet available on your device or in your country".
Before this update, wallet ran on both devices. I never got the chance to actually use it, but the app ran. Now it won't even open.

I've used it twice and I am rooted without any issues.

Does this mean my Google wallet works?

I got my fourth tablet after doing the replacement game, and was ecstatic that it is seemingly perfect. However I had trouble using Google wallet and was worried that just my luck, it didn't work on this tablet.
I got the one I was sending back to Google out of the box, and was able to successfully beam something to the other one. That is the same nfc technology that wallet uses, right? Does that mean that it could have just been the register where I tried it, and most likely my nfc works since I was able to beam? Thanks in advance...

That's correct. I've noticed that the best place for contact is in the upper left corner close to the 'N' in 'Nexus'.

Google Wallet and Root?

Well, I got my replacement Nexus 7 today, it's the new batch, no lift anymore. It's flawless now.
Since this one is fine, I think I'll root it. But I've heard that Google Wallet doesn't work with root with the newest update.
Can someone explain?

Rooted here on the glazed rom and I can confirm that GW works. Also with the latest update (the one where you can add ANY of your credit cards) You'll get a "unsupported device" notification on the app, but that's a disclaimer. GW still works. I used it twice.
I can confirm it works since I've drained my Gift Card already... several times over by now too.
If you don't have a phone with NFC, the N7 works, but it is a little clunky since it is a bigger device. I prefer to use my phone when making purchases, but now that Wallet supports most credit cards through, I like having the option and not having to rely on the Gift Cards.

I have nexus 7 rooted with stick and g-wallet is not working? Why isn't mine good?

which batch? I got c80 from gamestop, and while it feels flawles, I have a 0.1-0.2mm lift in the left edge, acn barely be seen, but there is some flex there. I can live with that though. My Tf101 had significantly bigger issues- Creaked, left speaker stopped working, dock drained battery like crazy, etc etc..!
I unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7 and my prepaid card is gone! My free money... Is it really gone?

Google Wallet didn't work at Rite Aid

I went into rite aid with my nexus 7 to try and spend my credit and it didn't work. The tablet said check to cashier to confirm translation but she said it didn't work.
She kinda understood and said it usually doesn't work even with the PayPass credit cards.
NFC works fine as android beam form my Nexus 7 to my Nexus S works fine.
Anybody else have this problem?
Mine worked at CVS.

The $25 credit was for use in the play store to buy movies, music, apps, etc.
When you signed up for Google wallet that were giving out $10 credit for use however you wanted.

Question? At the time of using Google Wallet, did you have a data connection active on the tablet? There must be a active data connection for Google Wallet to work.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
It work fine for me at rite aide. I don't have an internet connection either. I think you have to tell the cashier to split the transaction into 2. Use the 10$ on the Google wallet credit, then pay the difference with your own money. That's what I did.

A data connection is NOT needed for Google wallet to function. A data connection is only used to update the available balance.
I use my N7 / Google Wallet daily and internet is not required.
Also, whenever I use Google wallet I also tell the cashier first that I'm going to be using credit. Never had an issue.

sold phone without wipiing

hey guys so as the title says, i sold my phone without wiping and left my google logged in. is there a way i can remotely wipe it?
There might be. If you enabled it before you sold it.
Go to google.com and then go to the google play store.
Click the little gear on the upper right side. and then click android management.
When there, there is an option to remotely wipe the phone.
However, you must have enabled it on the phone before you sold it.
This is the only way, unless you physically have the phone or nicely ask the guy. Otherwise, just change your google password.
And hope you did not store pictures and other confidential software on it. Good luck.

If you had a corporate exchange account, then go to the corprorate email client on a laptop adn there under options you will find a way to wipe the entire device. This is if you had a corporate exchange account put in.

Google Wallet Tap & Pay for Kit Kat: How to get it to work on N7!

Tap & Pay now works for Google Wallet for N7 Kit Kat.....IF you get the Nexus 5 version of Wallet!
Which you can find on Phandroid here
Instructions for n00bs: To install, download the .apk file at the webpage link above. MAKE SURE UNKNOWN SOURCES IS CHECKED IN YOUR SECURITY SETTINGS prior to download.
Then run the app and follow the directions in the app to setup Tap & Pay.
Make sure NFC is enabled and you have an internet connection when attempting payment (have the Wallet app showing when you are ready for payment.)
I just bought McDonald's with it....using their WiFi!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
thanks and yes, after installing that apk and setting it up, Wallet does now appear in tap & pay. I'll try it out. Thanks
I seem to remember a blog post and thread here how NFC could not work with Wallet on the new N7. I disagreed because the hardware is there and the security can be emulated in software. This workaround proves it. I'm going to McDonald's tonight .
Thanks

How can you make a payment without an Internet connection? :what: If that was the case, you make a payment offline, factory reset your tablet before it connects again. In theory, you won't get charged then, right?

No. Your device communicates your payment data via NFC. The element receiving that data actually executes the charge. Your device doesn't need to connect to the internet anymore than your credit cards need to connect to the internet.

Almost as risky as storing your credit card info on a plastic card in your billfold. Someone nips that and they have all they need to charge your account!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Guys you CAN pay without an internet connection. The Nexus 7 2013 works the same as the Nexus 5, using HCE instead of a secure element. I tried my N5 in airplane mode (with NFC switched back on) a couple days ago at CVS and it worked fine. As soon as I turned off airplane mode the transaction details downloaded.
Now while the transaction will work without internet Wallet now requires an internet connection to PIN unlock! So if there is no service in the store unlock it before going in. If you're feeling more daring you can use 1 day or no PIN timeout for wallet and not have to worry about internet connectivity.

One of the new features in KitKat is 'virtual smart cards' which allows them to take the credit card information and essentially create a virtual card that has the same content as your real card. It's protected the same way as your credit card does it. Tap and Pay is actually identical to "chip and pin" just done over NFC. So this duplicates the 'chip' part.
Any way to make this work outside the USA without any crazy hacks?
