Never really encountered this problem but mms files won't send. I'm stock rooted and all the correct apn settings are in for Internet and mms. No clue what's wrong. These settings worked on my Samsung Nexus so before!

1) Turn off wifi
2) Send message
3) Wait a bit
4) Turn wifi back on
That solved my problem last night and it's been working fine since (I'm on ST btw). I've heard there's some kind of bug with mms and wifi. I haven't researched the problem too deep so take that with a grain of salt. Hope that helps!

I had a problem for a while with T-Mobile where I could receive MMS but they wouldn't send.
To fix this I went into Settings -> Select "More" under Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Access Point Names --> Click on the 3 dots and "Reset to Default". Reset phone and problem solved.
Nothing looked different before and after, other than for a week I couldn't send MMS and after restarting I suddenly could.
was having the same issue with my phone through T-Mobile, and I tried what Acuity recommended. So far, all my mms messages have gone through.
Thanks Acuity!

I've followed multiple APN guides including the one in the Solavei forums for Android phones and the one posted in here a little ways back (listed as SOLVED). I can receive MMS but still can't send them out. Just hangs on "sending". I've used the stock version of Androind, PA and CM and no luck Anyone still in this situation or have any ideas on what to do? Thanks.
Try with/without a subject. When it's stuck on sending, tap and hold and then do edit then send it right away again. Watch the signal bars to see if they show activity as well.
make sure whatever number your sending it to, you include the area code. for some reason that's how I have to do it on straight talk, but it didn't matter on T-Mobile prepaid

People still don't have all phone numbers saved with 10 digits in the USA?
Figured that's standard everywhere now?
I'm the one that posted it solved. I just tried mine again and it still works. Do you have a Hspa or 3g connection? What is the file size you are trying to send?
If your using Wi-Fi it doesn't work

It's a photo from the gallery, looks like it's being compressed down to less than 1 MB for MMS purposes when sending.

You mean with an active wi-fi connection or with wi-fi turned on at all? I'll try turning wi-fi off entirely and see what happens.

Make sure your APN says MMS in it or it'll try sending MMSes over WIFI because that's the active connection. With MMS in the APN Type, it knows to use that data connection for MMS.
I changed ROM's and I cant get data back. Ive tried multiple and its a no go. I NEED my data. What do I do? Ive checked my APN settings....help!!!
what network are you on?
have you tried deleting all other APN's except the one you need?
Do you have signal at all / are you connected to the phone network and able to take / receive calls? or is nothing working?

I have "H+" in the notification pane and its "blue" meaning what i thought was "active data". But nothing

has the data worked at any point before?
This is the problem that lots of people over in this thread are having ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2084706&
We are hoping for some sort of fix to this in 4.2.2, but until then we haven't been able to find a solution. If you are 100% certain the APN settings are correct (I can't help with that as from UK so not familiar with that network) then there isn't much you can do. For me, the only thing I ever find that sometimes brings it back is if I turn airplane mode on, leave it for 30 seconds then turn it off again. Likewise, you can click on the APN to reset that each time.
If you are rooted, Faux released a modified kernal which is meant to improve data drops and the wake issue which some nexus's have.

did you cut your own micro sim?
try a spare sim if you have one.
Reset APN to default, delete all and try again.
I don't know what else to suggest other than the above / phoning google / rooting and trying a different kernal and ROM / wait for 4.2.2 update.
(In the meantime please post in the thread linked above, no need for this duplicate thread just for your issue )

Which ROM were you on when you first noticed the problem?
I have an Amazon Prime XT1625 on H20 wireless (via AT&T networks) and cannot get the MMS to work. Interestingly, it DID work for a day with the phone in the beginning then stopped working.
Originally purchased back in october. Trying to wipe the AMZN bloat and root the phone I soft bricked it. I followed this thread and unbricked it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/help/soft-bricked-prime-exclusive-xt1625-t3470693/ ). Currently loaded with XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139 firmware.
The MMS did work the first day and that was it. For the last 3 months no MMS. I have copied both H20 wireless' official recommended APN settings again and again and also tried using the same APN settings from my previous phone (same sim & service), but none are working to either send or receive. H20 wireless customer service eventually gave up and blamed it on the phone saying because it is not an official AT&T phone it works on different MHz - LOL!
Dialed *#*#4636#*#* and messed around with switching "SET PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" dropdown, cycling through the LTE options (did not perform reboot between each though). Also tried "turning on sms over IMS", but nothing worked.
What's odd is at one point it did work at one point. I do not know if something happened during loading the firmware after the softbrick or something else.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Of course, I'm hoping it's a hidden switch or menu, but I'm open to reloading new firmware as well. In fact, I was looking to upgrade to Nougat but I see that there are only soaps available and no official release yet, so I wanted to post this first.
Thanks!
Have you tried a factory reset? Sounds like after the soft brick you messed up the MMS service.

Had this issue on both my XT1625 (non Amazon) and my wife's Moto G3. turned out the APN settings were not setup correctly so it was accessing the wrong MMS proxy. AT&T is also who our provider (Consumer Cellular) uses. Check with H2O wireless and find out what your APN settings should be and set them up accordingly.
Make the APN settings match the settings on this page.
https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/mainControl.php?page=dataManualConfig
You also know that MMS probably won't go if you have wifi enabled while sending. Many apps have a T-Mobile setting that disables wifi while sending MMS. For grins, disable wifi then try sending the MMS with just data enabled.

This worked: disabling wifi allowed the MMS to send.
Is this a moto g4-carrier specific problem, or universal problem? Is there a work-around to enable both MMS and wifi simultaneously?

It's not a G4 problem, it's more the app and I use Textra SMS for that reason but there are several that you can use. You can try that or Chomp which is by the same developer and I believe both are free to try. I actually purchased Textra because I just like the features more. In the MMS settings for both there is a setting called T-Mobile Fix. What it does is when an MMS is coming in or when you're sending one, it will turn off the wifi, send or receive the MMS and then turn wifi back on. I've seen that setting on other SMS apps also.

Interesting. I haven't seen any issues with WIFI being enabled blocking MMS messages from being sent. I just use the built in Messaging app that coms with opengapps. My wife had an issue on her G3 that prevented her from sending MMS to a group but worked fine for single recipients. It turned out to be APN settings.
But this is good to know should I see any issues in the future.
OK, have had quite the adventure getting this to work.
I did install Textra and selected the "T-Mobile workaround" setting within the app and MMS worked wonderfully. For about one week.
The all of a sudden it stopped working. Phone crashed and upon reboot MMS ceased to work in its entirety.
This got me thinking there must be a conflict somewhere. So I uninstalled Lucky Patcher and HEBF, and lo and behold MMS would send and RECEIVE only upon reboot. Not once the OS was completely booted, but in that sweet spot of 30 seconds after the main screen popped up and the rest of the OS booted. So I'm thinking there is a conflict somewhere. The only other apps I have that require root is Titanium Backup and SuperSU - I don't think these would cause conflict but I suppose I could uninstall and see.
Short of doing a full factory reset, is there some sort of conflict debugging software that I can use to trace the conflict?

I have TB installed and had SuperSU as well when I was on stock. Didn't see any issues with MMS once I got APN setup correctly. Short of doing a factory reset or disabling individual apps you probably don't have any options to find the conflict, if that is the issue.

I had the same issue and I am on TMobile also. If WiFi was on, I could not send nor receive MMS. I fixed it with this: https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/61843

Once I made the changes I was able to send MMS and receive them
I'm also on T-Mobile and was not receiving mms when on Wi-Fi, but receiving them fine. The problem was fixed when I turned off Wi-Fi calling. Hope that fixes your issue also.
I agree the problem is fixed by turning off WiFi calling, but WiFi calling is something I want to keep on

As with the MMS on Wifi .. the APN that the Essential pulls is not complete .. NONE of the 4 it pulls. I would go in and edit yours. The MMS while on wifi regardless of wifi calling on or off .. should be fixed with the proper APN. Remember that you should reboot after changing the APN. My wife's was having an issue with MMS and weird signal issues. I fixed her up with a proper APN. It's a pitfall of a non-carrier phone. My U11 suffered the same issues. Anyway. Give a proper APN a shot.
I did this but am still having reception issues as well as MMS issues
To clarify if you make this chnage to get it to work, you need "Cellular" checked under Wifi Calling. If you have WiFi calls as preferred it still does not work. These changes and that setting allow the phone to jump back and forth when needed, correct?

Sure it does. I just sent a gif from Gboard and a photo from my gallery to the wife and she's got an Essential on TMO. It works fine.
Again, a proper APN will make all this work properly.
What have those of you on Verizon been doing?
Hello - I saw this post while looking for an MMS solution for my PH-1 on AT&T. I have had Verizon, Sprint, Google Fi, and AT&T on this phone, and the only one that I could send/receive SMS/MMS was on Verizon while on my work network's WiFi. I work in a school building behind three layers of cinder block walls, and I have to have a way for this to work. I could go back to VZW, but I'm trying to avoid their high and not-unlimited Unlimited plans' rates. Can you direct me to the correct APN settings for AT&T? Thanks!
Is anyone having the same problem ? It seem it was working fine for few weeks but now it is causing me a major issue. Only happens when I'm at home on wifi. As soon as I switch to mobile everything works . Already tried messing with the apn settings seem not to have any effects on the problem
I'm also having this issue. RCS working fine on wifi here as well as SMS, but only MMS fails to send.
No issue here using Google Messages

wow, thanks for this. i think it actually worked.
can't believe IPv6 is still a thing. i know it has advantages, but there are good reasons it hasn't caught on. this is a shining example. only time i ever encounter v6 is when it causes issues like this.
What about keeping mobile data always on turned on??
