Samsung released the latest Source Update 7 as fix for SDS - Galaxy S III General

Although there isn't any proof to confirm that SDS has been fixed by newest Bootloader, however samsung has released the latest source Update 7 which was identified as the fix for Sudden death Syndrome. so this thread might be very helpful to be covered as long as your S3 still work. an UPDATE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :
[Important] Sudden Death Fix - Are you covered?

They updated it.
Sorry mate. You seemed to have been badly bashed by people in the other thread.

We believe that the new system update also fixes the sudden death issue as the new firmware ships with brand new bootloaders and this is the first time Samsung has updated the bootloaders of the device since it started shipping back in May 2012.

That's inaccurate. They changed bootloader when they started rolling out JB updates.
And it would be nice to know who the sources are. No need for exact name, just indication that the source is not xda and the XXELLA thread.

I understand nothing at all....then, why not Samsung massively launches the update to all regions/countries?
For now, in sammobile I can see that samsung is launching ELL5, ELL6 etc but no more ELLA for other countries...

+1 FAR too much confusion right now!!!

Faryaab is one little bullsh*tter who writes anything to get readers. I don't trust him or Sammobile one second. I'll wait for an official statement from Samsung themselves instead of reading on Sammobile.

how about this from that article?
"But, we can’t confirm if sudden death issue has been resolved or not as Samsung is the only one who can confirm about the fix."

Well they wrote that before they updated with "our sources confirm".

aha, i get it now. i will wait a bit more to see a definitive post about this.
that "our sources" is a bit too abstract for me at the moment, but i think we will find out very soon...

I'm sure you meant well starting this thread but there all ready 3 others threads talking about the same things with the same arguments going on .

All the information about the sudden death issue is sourced from dutch website "TWEAKERS.NET" with whom the samsung spokeswoman Anne ter Braak spoke. Samsung is aware of the manufacturing defect and are soon going to provide the firmware fix for this issue. But no timeframe was stated as of 2nd Jan 2013. Most of the websites have related this news with the recent update as the fix but is unconfirmed by Samsung.

"Samsung do not let what the exact cause of the sudden failure of the motherboards of many copies of the Galaxy S III recent months, also referred to as' sudden death '. The manufacturer says to Tweakers aware of the defect. "It's only a very limited number of Galaxy S III models with 16GB memory," said spokeswoman Anne ter Braak. The cause lies in Samsung in a firmware bug, which 'can be easily solved by a firmware update.
An exact schedule for the update is not available yet, but according to Ter Braak will be rolled out as soon as possible. The problem occurs for users according to both the software from Samsung itself as custom ROMs. If the problem occurs, the phone will not be activated. This often happens at night when not in use.
Ter Braak refers people who encounter the problem to a Samsung Repair Center. Previously it appeared that the motherboard is replaced under warranty. It's not the only problem that the South Korean manufacturer must repair: a previously found leak is still in the firmware. The leak that phones could be reset with a line html code is now closed."

Is this XXELLA fix sudden death issue?????
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium

It's definitely 3rd one. First one that came with ICS had no ! function and could be reset to zero permanently. Second one came with first 4.1 updates and it had the ! functionality, it couldn't be reset to 0 with custom recovery, but it could be downgraded . Now we have the third one that can't be downgraded and it has the ! and again no permanent reset to 0 with custom recovery.
So their statement is not correct, it could be the same bootloader as the previous JB releases, only that tz.img was added, but first bootloader change was definitely before this update.

The thing is I have never had a red ! until the LLA update, I think the one that came with the first JB update was included in the OTA package only so a lot of people might not have got it. I definately didn't, LLA is the only time I have been rooted with stock recovery, every other time it was with CWM and a flash counter of 9 I never saw the red ! until last night when I ran triangle away.

I think you are right. The FWs on sammobile for my carrier are all without sboot.bin files. I don't know about the others.
Hah, actually that's one way to catch you if you uploaded FW with Odin. JB ROM and ICS bootloader. :silly:

Has any body else got any of these updates?
I have just tried going menu/settings/about/software updates/check for updates/ but it returns with "no update available". If that was not how you got the OTA update please give the exact steps you did so others can try this out. I am in the UK on O2 running stock KF3.
If nobody else is getting these updates then my _guess_ is that you are some how getting test updates reserved for Samsung staff.
And no I don't have any inside info into thier numbering system.
Yep one person only the whole wide world gets the update . Something wrong if it was a proper OTA update many more would be posting .
jje
I agree, i believe the OP is telling lies
plain and simple..
intratech in his post# (in this thread itself) has shown that he has captured baseband version I9100KH3 but i am sure OTA is not the way right now to get this update
The OP has been flashing firmwares here and there and claiming he is getting it from OTA.... white lies black lies...all lies
It is possible that the OP is some how getting test updates reserved for Samsung staff and for Samsung testing. Samsung are not intending that these OTA updates go to his phone.
I went to the samsung website and the latest firmware download is Kies_2.0.2.11071_128.exe dated the 24th of August 2011.
I am not at home to install and test this out.

Maybe my phone is mainly build for samsung update eventhough i am not samsung memeber of staff. All what i know is i have got the update via OTA this morning . I have not hacked or do anything to my phone .
I believe the update is a Samsung problem as KH3 is replaced by KH5 that was a single user OTA update .
Plus OTA has never worked for most users .
jje
This all sounds way too odd for me.
Firstly, the OP gets KH5 then suddenly he gets a DUMMY firmware OTA.
Either something is wrong with Samsung OTA updating for this device or its all a crock of s**t.
No one else had anything like this so my advise is perform a system dump and give someone that knows their stuff to look at it like a developer...PM them perhaps?
If not, I dont believe it.

FINAL JB RELEASED?! Look inside!

Just found this:
http://www.trickytweaks.com/android...blg8-firmware-for-galaxy-i9300-available.html
Any ideas if its real?
The Korean Giant has Officially released the XXDLI5 Stable update with the new touch-viz Customization. Its the OTA Update and in Many countries it is also termed as the Download Android 4.0.4 I9300XXBLG8. Itwas the Most successful update of the Galaxy s3 i9300 Series. Many reported the Demerits of this official ROM. Demerit was the touch-viz interface, Galaxy s3 Users were expecting the new Integrated Touch-viz Interface. Keeping all this in Mind, Samsung Just released the Test Official Jelly-Bean Stable Firmware XXDLI2 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OTA, so as to test this. Samsung claimed that its Integrated with the new Touch-viz customizations.
This Update will only be available for the European Customers and will be the Part of the OTA update. So make to make this globally, you have to flash this ROM manually with the help of the ODIN. If you are not Rooted then No need to worry as this is the Official ROM, so you don’t need Rooting to Install this ROM.

We (trickytweaks.com) are just representing the method in a Pre-described and in a Better way so that you can Integrate this Update Method in your device easily. We are not forcing you to do this.
NOTE: The ROM is the Official Release by the Samsung, it’s not a LEAKED update, and you can use this ROM to unroot the device if you wish to.
If they say has been released, as in out now it can't be real, my OTA on an unbranded UK phone says no update is available. Could be out this week though.

I doubt it's real (or correct anyway) - the whole story contradicts itself, like referring to Android 4.1.4 (which doesn't exist) and then mentioning 4.1.1 (correct). And I don't understand why they'd mention XXDLI5 which is the OTA we've just received on here, but suggest that it's also known as "Android 4.0.4 I9300XXBLG8"? Just smacks to me of someone suddenly reading something they think is "new", then misguided gathering of what they think is related news about it, and excitedly pushing the story out.

Look at the filename, it's called XXDLI5
The D means it's a development version, i.e. a leak.
We have 2 leaks left before the official firmware rolls out; 16 and 17. So that means we'll get it sometime this week. Also, not everyone will get it at once. You have to press update oh so many times for it to realize you're serious about upgrading. Those who really want it will get it first. At least that was the case for the Nexus Jellybean OTA. Users had press like 5 times for it to upgrade.

In Australia there are Pre-orders going on for the new Samsung Galaxy LTE QUAD +2 GB Ram and delivery Date set for the 20th September. Which I have Ordered the Titanium Grey 32GB unlocked version of someone I know . And On the specs it says Software - 4.1.1 JELLY BEAN.. I asked one of the customer service and they confirmed it will be shipped with the new 4.1.1 Jelly bean. So 100% the official will be out atleast 1week before the 20th which is approximately 12th September and apparently there is an event on the 12th.. sounds plausible

I think we can all safely assume that now, 5 weeks after starting, the "soak test" is now long over and done with. After all, Motorola stated that Lollipop would be out on the Moto G *before* the end of 2014... and guess what? Only 12 days of that left. Unless they're into cutting it fine, this IS the final release, folks.

To be frank, Motorola likely shifted from 5.0 to 5.0.1 midway the soak test. And 5.0.2 is pretty near as well, who knows if they won't shift development for it before this rollout ends.

What does that matter, when it's all Lollipop, after all? Would you prefer they release 5.0 and not a more updated, polished release version instead? They'll release on time, believe me.

It would also be nice if people would also make note of the baseband version associated with each release. There already been enough tears from fools flashing baseband firmware willy-nilly.
Okay, I had upgraded to 22.21.16 via TWRP using KennyWuLee's packaged tool. This morning I received a notice that I had an update available for 22.21.25 which I assume is 5.0.1. So like a dummy I went ahead and accepted. Now all it does is boot into TWRP. When I restart to system from TWRP it boots up just fine then after about 15 seconds reboots to TWRP.
I assume it is looking for the stock recovery which will then allow me to install the update? So will I be safe to go ahead and reflash the stock recovery, reboot and go from there? Or should I go all the way back to stock everything?
I have an XT1063.

You could be right.
I got this phone happy in the knowledge I'll always be running (nearly) the latest clean version of Android, instead I have a phone with a memory management issue running at least a month behind other continents.
Tongue in cheek aside, I do have some suspicions.
It stands to reason that the people most likely to join the MFN are those who like to tinker and who are eager to receive updates. These people are also the most like to unlock the bootloader. If something goes awry during an OTA roll-out test and the user cannot resolve the issue, support from Motorola can be requested, potentially resulting in a warranty claim, unless the device has been unlocked and was purchased outside of the EU... It therefore seems logical that Motorola would not do soak tests in the EU, where possible: It reduces the blowback in the unlikely event that there is a serious bug in the update.

That sounds like the most plausible reason they may have, if they have one. To be honest, I've got better things to think about than when a frivolous software update arrives for a non-cricital device, but your thoughts certainly are rational ones
Well I was part of the xt1069 Brazilian soak test and I have to say it's a bad joke. A lot of users didn't get the update, there was almost no support or even feedback from Motorola in the forum. And to finish it off, they had an issue with their forum software that got all comments deleted. I don't think EU users are missing much

N910T3 (and other variants) 5.1.1 Fingerprint Scanner unlock bug - Calling Devs

There seems to be a bug in 5.1.1 that for sure affects the N910T3 that comes with 5.1.1 and the Sprint Note 4 that has 5.1.1. It may or may not affect the N910T using ROMS based on the T3 5.1.1.
That is where my request comes in. For one I would like to get some feedback from users that use the fingerprint unlock.
To briefly describe the bug: The bug occurs when a user sets the unlock method of the phone to fingerprint. The bug will cause the phone to randomly lock in the middle of use. For example one could be texting someone and randomly the phone freezes, shows the wall paper will nothing on it, and then the phone locks.
The only solution to resolve the problem as of now is to not use the fingerprint unlock method. This clearly is not an acceptable solution.
At first I thought there was something wrong with the T3 and was posting on here to find the answer but I recently discovered that other Note 4 variants that received the 5.1.1 like the Sprint version also face the same exact issue.
So Devs with a T3 or a similar variant (one officially on 5.1.1) could you please help investigate this? I cant help but think perhaps one could find a solution to this bug by replacing something. Perhaps its impossible and we must wait for an official bug fix FW but one can hope.
Thanks!

Sorry for the misspelling. I meant to say "without any problems" not "without many problems". In fact, the whole update process was smooth and fast. Everything works fine. I understand, however, that everyone's setup is different and my experience should not be the absolute rule.
Nothing here on my device. Although it might be because I'm in Sweden.
Did anyone see any changes? I dont see/feel anything other than the version number change even the security patch level date remained the same. Is there a changelog somewhere

I don't see any difference after the update, either. I wonder what it was supposed to have updated?

There's a whole new Lollipop firmware on the San mobile firmware site.
Yes...problems
My tablet updated and now the OS boots super slow and then does a soft shutdown and reboots a second time. It takes more than 60 secs to get to the home screen. Anyone know how to uninstall this update?

This morning, my Note received a rather large software update that installed without many problems. Most likely certain security updates, but I was surprised to receive it as we are not really "accustomed" to any attention from Samsung for this tablet. Any further comments from anybody else?

I've seen this post for a few days but not had time to respond till now.
I've got an SM-P605v. Haven't seen, or been able to download the update you've mentioned. This may be because I don't use Verizon as my connectivity partner, or it may be that my particular tablet's OS doesn't need the security updates that yours did.

I also have a SM-P605V but have Verizon as my carrier. I got the notification to update today. I don't see anything on VZW site about it nor under the specific SKU on SamMobile (still has 10/15/15 as the last official update). When looking at the SM-P605 model, there are some in the list (even today's date), though they are for non-USA countries.
Even so, it looks like they are still all Android 5.1.1, so it's likely just some minor tweaks. To my understanding, you would need to pop in an activated Verizon SIM to get the update for your specific tablet, as Verizon is the one that issues it. You can also wait until it's posted on SamMobile and manually do it. https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P605V/

I think I found the official from Verizon: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-note-10-2014-update/
Software Version: LMY47X.P605VVRSDPL1
The current software update gives you the most up to date Android™ security patch on your device.

(I called VZW and she confirmed that it was an Android Security patch, no MM, darnit!)

You should be able to flash this now that Sammobile posted it... https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P605V/
I got this a couple of days ago - managed to odin flash after I put the wrong file and got the boot loader triangle a day before.
Its extremely stable and the tablets working like a dream - the only issue is no root.
Edit: I noticed a great improvement in battery management and it will charge to 100% from 30% in 4 hours before I flashed the 5.1.1 rom it took nearly 8 hours with a new(second hand) USB Flex connector and nearly 20 hours with the old usb flex connector to go from 30% to 100%.
I really like this tablet - it reminds me so much of my SM-N910F note 4.
You can root the latest firmware and also install twrp. I have a 600.

Probably just a security update
Please excuse my silly question but I have P600 with 5.1.1 and never rooted. Do I need to install twrp before I update or it doesn't matter? Updates always make me uneasy with locking bootloader or needing new root methods.
If you just want to update then flash with Odin and the appropriate file. Try looking at sammobile.com for the appropriate rom file.
If you want root then you will need to install a custom recovery using CF auto or Twerp - the latter will NOT work on the SM-605v version as the bootloader is locked and will result in the yellow triangle and stating that the tablet has a strange recovery and that you should see a verizon technician. By installing the recovery you can then update the system or even try out new roms created by the people of this wonderful community.
Rooting will potentially stop business application with built in security from working - i.e. HSBC application, Virgin Media app and Sky Movies apps will not work on rooted phones to name a few.
I updated and rooted and everything is working ok. I had trouble with 64gb Sandisk microsd with "sd card unexpectedly removed" error. Then it mount itself back. Sometime it shows empty and asks to format and sometime it works. Also the lockscreen flicker and that usually when the card error happened. I suspect they are related and it happens only when waking up the device. The card works fine with all my other devices including my note 4 on stock 5.1.1. I'm not sure what caused it because I just used this sd card with the note 10.1 and then updated and rooted all in the same day.
Anyway, I removed the Sandisk and now I'm using 32gb Samsung and it only happened once for maybe 12 hours (could have been 100 times with Sandisk). Also, I don't notice the lockscreen flickering anymore. I will see if this problem comes back or it just that Sandisk doesn't play well my note. I have seen many people here reported similar problem with other Samsung devices for too many reasons. I don't believe file format is the issue but I'm using exFAT.
