I'm in talks with an investor and looking to incorporate RFID tags into wristbands that can be scanned on several N7 tablets at a function of about 1500 people and 200 N7 tablets.
Each wristband would be unique.
The problem is the range. Can you read the tags by running them on the screen or does it have to be the back?
The wristbands will only be transmitting a URL like www.12345.com/id=AJ6GW0
Any special sizes?

When I used NFC to pay for lunch at McDonalds I had to literally tap the reader with the upper backside of the N7.
Yea I've used mine at McDonald's but I've never experienced smaller tags. I know the battery usually contains the antenna but I'm wondering if it would work from the front.
These tabs will be on display for use and probably bolted down. I don't have any tabs to test with yet so I'm asking here. I couldn't find any information from Google specifically for the NFC range on the N7.
If this solution won't work very well then I'd have to use some sort of BT-NFC accessory and pair each one with 100 tabs = much more work and effort keeping the N7 together with its reader accessory across multiple staging setups.

I can't use my NFC tags by wiping them on the screen. Mind you, they were ridiculously cheap and from a low-degree shop in China.
To activate, it was maximum distance from naked back: 3cm.
Maximum distance from thick fabric case: 1.5cm.
Google NFC dongle android. There are some good YouTube videos on attendance logging.
Trying to use NFC from the front without a dongle will be an exercise in frustration.

I bought some wristbands and it reads perfectly from the FFC location on the top bevel above the screen. So this is perfect and great news. The sweet spot is just left of the camera hole.
Although after a meeting today we decided to use the stickers with a company logo and adhere them to a lanyard around the neck so they don't have to worry about the NFC section of the bracelet rotating around and not being in range.

You could always use a nexus 10 it has nfc on the front and back if it won't work on the 7

Hello there!
I am in the market for a new tablet, and am considering buying a 2 7" and have some questions.
How does the IR blaster work? Does it receive on all tv's?
What is the deal with the 30 pin connector, would one of apple's (boo!) chargers work for the device?
Overall how is the service with Samsung? Any horror stories?
and finally, what case do you have on the device, do I need one (how tough is it)?
Thanks so much,
dan123abc.
IR blaster is pretty cool, probably a fad that will be forgotten soon though. My tv is pretty old, pre hdmi, and it still turns it on at least.
There's a Samsung made case case that has tab 2 written on, I like it.

I know that the most of us have seen this - http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/31/wikipad-sees-last-minute-delay-for-new-bundle-and-refinement/
BUT
I IS possible to make a mod that adds a controller to the Nexus 7. The question is, is it possible for us to make one? Or do we have to wait for a company to make one?
I've looked into making one but the problem all the controller boards are one single board, none of them are split in the middle. If anyone has any ideas post them here.
Theoretically of course it's possible to make one, its a big challenge but we already know we can OTG connect an Xbox/ps3 controller.
I'd prefer to wait and see if a proper controller mod becomes available though.

I think the OP means a controller that fits around the outside of the nexus 7, to make one single unit.

Nexus 7 Cradle Joystick Controller Mod
When I first saw the WikiPad I definitely wanted the cradle style that engages the screen with the user. I'm guessing we will have to wait.
I did make one on the cheap (less than $8 out of pocket due to a gift card and some parts at home). It gives 4 buttons on the right and 4-way directional control which can be used in conjunction to the touch screen buttons- nothing compared to a SixAxis, but I haven't seen any cradle type joysticks like the WikiPad. I use it for emu's that I play most the time, key mapping is required, and is not natively recognized.
This first one I made as a quick mod with intentions of being budget minded. With your post, you have me thinking of making a BT SixAxis like dual analog with 2 trigger buttons however...
I'm thinking this cradle can be used to house the PCB behind the Nexus7 (inside the cradle case with a panel cover) since there is a decent amount of inner depth, while being able to solder and route wires to potentially add the analog sticks all behind the scenes... I predict a little bit of fiberglassing to accomodate the button and stick housings, but I don't see it being impossible. Maybe my next project in line.
Original Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33436763
That's an impressive cradle you made there. I've yet to look at the controller, I'll be taking it to work with me tomorrow so I'll post the feasibility to slicing it in two tomorrow.
Yeah I imagine it would have dpad and analogue stick.on left, buttons and analogue stick on right, that would be sweet.

I'm a little bit into classic gaming/Mame cabinets, a lot of people dissect the 360 or psx controllers to use the PCB for input and run long wires all the way to their buttons. I'm sure by the time I made one using good components with my luck one will be already manufactured for cheaper. Still would be a good challenge for a weekend project.

So I had a look at my 360 controller, you're right its one complete circuit board, no place to separate it anywhere.
I think it may be possible to remove analogue sticks and mount them, and run wires back to the board. And as you say, house the board and wires in the back or bottom of the housing.
I may have to find a cheaper controller to go butchering mind!

These are some. Look for Capacitive Stylus.
No such thing. The only thing close to a decent stylus is the dagi pen. Yes, its much more expensive, but the normal rubber tipped ones are useless. The Dagi can actually be useful for handwriting and drawing. Trust me, please, I've used them all. The only truly good stylus is the S Pen on the Galaxy Note Tablet and Phones, but it only works on those devices. That's it. Get the Dagi or waste your money on cheap ones, your choice.

I'm searching for taught mountain bike holder for Nexus 4, but i can't find any suitable. All of them have in description, that it isn't good for this use. I need perfect grip, because I can't lose phone, when I do a bigger jump. Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks for any answer. I hope, I post it in right forum.
Very interested my self.
Right now I just have a pouch on top of the frame / and seat post which is okay but would like what you are looking for.

I'm waiting for my local bike shop to get the Timbuk 2 Goody Box back in stock. They had them last summer but sold out before I could get one.
The Goody Box mounts to your top tube and your headset, and sits above the bar. It's got a large window pocket on top for your phone.
Interested in this as well. Bonus points if it can cleanly accommodate a battery pack/charger as well.
A man's gotta Ingress at optimum levels, neh?
Maybe get this case since it has a metal machined screw mount on the back. Use it with a C-Clamp from hardware store to mount?
Or email rokform and see if they plan to make a Nexus 4 case. They have a nice bike mount for their cases.
I use this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008CMWY66/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
You can use it through the case and is waterproof. I also put a battery pack behind it and use a right angled USB cable. So I can use the cycle streets app using offline maps and it lasts a good 8 hours or so with the screen on.
Wow I'm assuming you guys never fall/ land everything. Even on the street curb/ bunny hopping, I'd probably either lose the phone or crash. Haha
I had this one from ridermounth
http://www.ridermount.com/Images/productimages/sm032.jpg
The nexus 4 won't fit there (at least my gnexus was a pain to fit there, so...).
THey have some for the s3, send them a mail.
They were very good and waterproof
I seen this one i dont know if it fits the nexus 4!

I got a phone mount for the bike a few months ago. The grip is strong enough to hold the phone but the mount was not heavy enough to absorb any vibrations. The whole thing kept vibrating like crazy. Make sure to get a heavy duty mount that can dampen any vibrations.
I like most of you on this forum change phones like shoes. 5 phones in the past 2 years. There has always been something missing though.
Good phone, but no LTE,
Good phone but the screen isn't that sharp
Good phone but the camera is crap
but, but, but
I think the note 3 is the first phone that has no "buts". Big HD screen, overpowered guts, passable camera, plenty of storage. I really can't imagine what they are going to put into the next super phone that is going to get me to reach for my credit card.
They could make it higher res I guess. Or ad a incrementally faster processor. Maybe sharpen up the camera, a bit. I don't know none of those things move me. When I got my note 2, a few months ago it was already pretty much the perfect phone. The only missing puzzle pieces where the screen, and camera. Now the note 3 has fixed that.
What will it take to get you to move to the note 4, or whatever the new hotness is. What else can they cram in there? Or has the super phone cold war finally run it's course? I can't see how you can improve anything much more without getting into diminishing returns.
I think I might have found a keeper
Optical image stabilization and optical zoom
Note 3 has already given me the ultimate tool. The IR blaster. Hehe more wasted moments because you cant find the friggin tv remote heeh

- A Kickstand
- Front facing speakers
- All capacitive buttons (Though I imagine this would boil down to personal preference)
- Better speaker (louder & more bass)
- Region unlocked
First one is a deal breaker for me so I haven't had to decide whether the region lock is a deal breaker or not.

For me, stereo front speakers like the HTC One and of course optical stabilisation.
A bit overpriced
Bigger screen. 6 inches would have been perfection.

kickstand can be fixed with a good case (and there are many)
Front facing speakers would be good on a normal sized phone but i dont think this thing can afford to be any longer lol
I'd like to have better speakers like the HTC one, and be able to switch to 5 vertical rows of icons on home screens. Done, otherwise I'm good. Still getting it as soon as Verizon releases it. Best phone for me in a long time.

FM Radio.
Decent sound, bigger speaker(s)
An unlocked bootloader would make it pretty much perfect... And maybe god mode!
IOS 7.....Kidding
The speaker could be punchier but I'm spoilt by the HTC One.

Why?
What is wrong with wanting an FM Radio?
Here in the UK FM Radio should be mandatory on all phones - We have a great selection of stations to choose from.
RGB display and higher PPI, smart move for samsung to go minimum 32gb internal with the ammount of apps on playstore and growing size of apks and extra data that comes with them.

Got any suggestions for a case with a kickstand? I know of the Seidio Active and that's about it.I was also contemplating getting a Spigen GLAS.tR SLIM which might cause a problem with the fit of a non Spigen case.
I think front facing speakers would have been doable if the samsung branding and physical home button (and a capacitive button was used instead) were left out
So
FM radio
Optical stabilization
Bigger zoom
Stereo speakers
Flexible Screen
Kickstand
All of those would be nice. Question is would any of those things justify another $300-600 from you though?
