Ubuntu for phones - XPERIA X8 General

Well, I was excited to see the brand new Ubuntu for phones, where they say they use the same drivers as Android (and I thought, hmm, maybe our X8 can get this OS in it).
Finally, I came across this page and my hopes vanished

Have you read: "System requirements for smartphones"?

Next time, read the topic fully and not in the diagonal

I can be done, but our X8 lacks in RAM and CPU which is everything. Maybe Naa can do something but really... i don't think it can run smoothly.
.. Good thing i bought a Nexus 7 DD

I don't think it is possible to run it smoothly on our X8. It's not like JB requirements, so...

nope it require armv7 cpu....x8 have armv6

what about xperia s

I apologize is this is a foolish question, but does the fact that its compiled in x86 mean that is could never be recompiled for arm devices?

Can it be recompiled for ARM? I know w/ the android emulators when an SDK was realeased they could inject it into a ROM for use, like when the 2.1 SDK came out, dev's used it to make a ROM...and if this is a true sys dump shouldn't it be even easier to re-compile for arm? or am i just talking out my arse..(probly am)

flash player for arm v6

hello all I'm here to ask if he'd be possible to modify the file libflashplayer.so and silk libysshared.so end it compatible with our arm v6?
impossible
Delete me please
it does it would not change the instruction for arm 7 in the arm of 6?
I just want to say...
When adobe first anounced that they will make an android version, they were aming for arm6 and arm7. Somewhere on adobe site I read that arm6 project was abadon because arm6 version had problems... something like this.
Anyway , it was stupit to close the develop site of arm6 and also they didnt give the code in order other developers to develop it farther, as they are BORED to do it.
or you one could find these sources?
"Adobe said t will optimize Flash for use on ARM architecture (ARMv6 and ARMv7 architectures used in the ARM11 family and the Cortex-A series of processors) and release it in the second half of 2009"
Wiki:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flash_Player
"technology optimization is targeted for the ARMv6 and ARMv7architectures"
Original anounced:
http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/200811/111708ARMAdobeFlash.html
They did not get bored they hit problems so left it for now I.read some where that they will pick it up at a later date
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
... there were problems, but you cant say they wasnt able to get over them... Ok first of all it is free so we cant blame adobe for not developing flash for arm v6.
May be that I am going to say is stupit...., I think there are alternative flash for linux, what about them?
Hmm, I doubt they will work on it anymore because almost all the newer devices use ARMv7/cortex-A8 or newer processors. ARMv6 was the older generation. It's getting outdated.
However, qemu can emulate ARMv7 on ARMv6. So, am guessing porting is indeed possible if you try an emulation layer instead of porting the entire source. Another alternative would be to make a working package of GNASH(open source flash). It's buggier than Adobe Flash but can do more than Flash Lite and something is better than nothing.

But, oh well, here's Flash on ARMv6.

More RAM would be so cool! Anyway, there is no way ICS gonna run atleast the same as GingerBread. I'm against porting ICS to X8!
Offtopic: Just found an app called Steinkraft! So Cool!
i think there will be no ics for our x8
x8 is still not good enough
gingerbread is still a bit laggy but ics...
would let the battery drain much faster
but i think its possible to handle it but not right now maybe in a few month or so

I'd say that chances of ICS coming to our X8's are slim to none. Don't get me wrong, I'd want ICS on my phone more than anything, but hear me out. Recently, Zdzihu managed to port ICS for the X10i. According to him,
[WORKING]
- it boots
- radio, calls, txt (sms)
- audio partially working (in-call is fine, playing mp3/ringtones leads to WLOD)
- bluetooth, GPS seem to work
- wifi almost working (“can’t find wlan0 device”)
- mobile data (it gets IP but disconects afterwards, needs investiagtion)
[NOT WORKING]
- most of the stuff does not work
- quite unstable
This is the X10 we're talking about. If it isn't even perfected or completed on the far (hardware) superior X10, how can we even hope for it to be usable on X8. But hey, who am I to talk, i ain't even a dev. I'm just a fat lazy 14 year old on his X8. I mean, they said the X8 and X10 couldn't handle Gingerbread (initially) but look how far the x8 and x10 dev's have come

that is correct you need sbk1(B70 or lower) to install emmc ubuntu although if you want you can always run it in a virtual machine using terminal and a vnc viewer

Is there a way of running a virtual machine on my transformer? I think I've seen something like this done with Backtrack 5 on a Xoom, but I wasn't aware of any virtualization software available for Android..

Because of the many advantages of ARM chipsets? More efficient power consumption, less heat dissipation, etc.
You could get a net book with a decent battery, an extra gig of ram and whack ubuntu on that.
The more recent atom chips or even amd's are great for that sort of thing.
Could always put a small ssd in it too.
What sort of battery life do you expect from a TF101 with ubuntu?
Asus has promised to release a tool to unlock the Transformer bootloader (at the price of voiding your warranty). When (if?) they release it, you should be able to install Ubuntu on the newer Transformers.

Some b70's can some b70's can't so it is generally said that b70's are incompatible just so that people with b70 sbk2's dont complain about things saying that something is compatable with b70 and lower
makes things easier on the devs

You can't have this on the X8 because of the following reasons:
We need at least 512 Mb of Ram. 1 Ghz Cpu minimum or at least 825 mhz.

I've never said that he's working for nothing..
Just that x8 has hardware limits.. It's very difficult for me to try explain it in english..
Look. Try to port windows 7 on a 800mhz with 256mb ram.. It will be extremely difficult.. I think it's a little the same.
Course he's doing great job.. I tested it and it's running well.. but I'm perplexed that we can run ICS with all of his fonctionnality on our x8.
But I hope I'm wrong
