Hello,
Can i use only one ext3/4 sd-card partiton as default ? (For music, images etc..)
I'm using Hyperion 7.x rom..
P.S: Sorry for my english.
Hi bro, you have to search for things before asking such questions.
First of all we do partition not for storing your pictures or songs. It is to expand phone memory with a2sd,link2sd or data to sd for applications.. we can make swap partition for increasing ram memory. if you want dual boot, then make extra partitions, otherwise one partition of ext3 or 4 and one swap partition (if you need it) is just enough.
Go to stickies in general thread, you will get nice tutorials about partitioning

I looked for, im find 2 threads, but there was no any answer..
I dont like fat32(max 4GB file/s) I was thinking of ntfs(In Merruk kernel read-only)..
Thanks, but i know, what is and used for linux swap, ext, link2sd etc..
Sorry for my english..

I need help..i want to partition my sdcard so i can have more internal memory space..but i need partitoning for dummies and its confusing..can one one help..i areald have CyanogenMod 1.5r2 v3.4 with hero theme 1.2, etc. on my sd..can i keep all that and still partition my sd into EXT2
go to development forum and on 1st or 2nd page is SDPLIT..thread by MartinFick.
Its two steps, youll have to flash i either jf or dude 1.+ but im a dummy and ive successfully done it twice
Go to the thread and in the first post is a link "hot to for dummies" , thatll partition your card, i have actually put apps on my sd so i cant recommend a tutorial for that, but there are applications that do it depending on which build you use

There is a tutorial with pictures here: http://www.allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5870 The program it describes, Paragon Partition Manager is what I use and it is quite handy.
Ok thanks I'm going to try it later tonight
can i use the partition professional edition 30 day trial or do i have to buy the full verison??
The trial version I believe is 100% fully functional so you shouldn't have any issues. Remember FAT32 for first partition then EXT2 or EXT3 for the second partition. I wouldn't make the second partition larger than 1GB personally too...
really easy tutorial with pics and everything

Hi there....
I seem to not have gotten no answers despite my repeated posts in the ROM threads...
So please i just need to know....
I have a 8GB Transcend SD card with 1GB partitioned to EXT2...
Now there are ROMS that say you must have EXT4 ....
Can I or cant I flash those EXT4 roms on my HD2???
Please some one make this clear to me.... coz of this I am stuck with one ROM only as I dont wanna take a risk..
Thanks
Bumpity Bump +1
I'm not 100% on this but i think you should only have either ext 2 or 4 not both as it could cause issues, maybe someone can confirm?
Many of the roms will work on either ext2/3 or 4 partitions. So you should be able to flash the rom (saying it requires an ext4 partition) to your ext2 partition. If it doesn't work then you'll know . The worst that will happen is that the rom won't boot up or you may need to reformat your sd card partition.
THanks a lot u guys
I really appreciate it
When I try to use A2SD commands I get "darktremor apps2sd may not have ran during boot cannot read a2sd.mountpoint"
Its saying my sd partition is not mounted, and no apps have moved to sd card
please help guys!
Have you partitioned your SD card correctly so that it works with a2sd?

I think so, I partitioned it Ext4. what else do I have to do?
Please list the exact partition config you have on your SD card. That way we'll hopefully be able to see the problem. Also please tell us which ROM you are using.

Sorry, you have an SD card with a single 745MB ext4 partition?
Can you post your exact SD card partition info - all partition sizes, file systems, and in what order they are partitioned.
Also, your ROM - have you asked this question in the relevant thread?

Sorry what I meant was my first partition was 6.69gb and Fat32, Then I partitioned 750mb off as Ext4.
Data first and then A2SD partition second is usually the right way around but I am not familiar with your ROM. For example, does it support EXT4?
Might be worthing popping over to the thread for your ROM in the Development forum and asking around there.

Yeah I did data first, and yeah it does support EXT4.
The rom doesnt actually have A2SD in it, but I put it in myself so its probably no use asking in the rom thread.
I've tried everything, I've partitioned it on linux, gparted, minitool partion on windows, Clockwork recovery, none work.
Thanks for your help anyway!
I have looked for similar posts but I haven't found exactly what I was looking for or I found old posts in the general sections of the forum, so I ask here:
What is the usefulness of an ext3 partition on the SD memory for applications?
Can anyone tell me an accurate guide to follow the procedure?
No one knows how to help me?
I think you will not need it.
ext3 earlier used for app2sd, but now almost all custom roms have native app2sd = means that you don' t have to make a own partition
correct me if im wrong
Blacksony
I'm starting to think that there is no use to format the SD to ext3..
U can make a partition in your SD for example of 1 gb EXT3 only for apps, you can make it with minitool partition wizard home edition (its free)
In ext3 the apps is fully saved in the sd (.apk, dalvik cache and data) and you can liberate more space in the disk than app2sd.
if u don't understand say me jaja my english is poor and i talk like a tarzan ! xD

Finally!
Thank you very much. I will provide downloading MiniTool Partition Wizard and format the sd by myself. If I find it difficult, I will ask your help here.
you are welcome, other form of format the SD in ext is with clock work recovery but you'll lose all your data
make a backup of your all data in sd before make a partition !
Hello,
I've installed ICS now without any problems, but after installing the data2sd script and then rebooting my phone gets stuck in the boot animation. Even though it's very beautifull eyecandy it really isn't doing much for me.
I did a full wipe! Clear data/factory reset, Clear dalvick cash, etc. Also Task 29 and used HD2 toolkit to create 250MB system partiton with 5MB cache
First I formatted my SD card (8GB class 10) with MiniTool Partition Wizard 7 completely as FAT32 then I partitioned it (with CWM recovery 4.0.0.0) to 2048MB EXT3 with 256MB Swap, formatted that partition again in MiniTool to EXT3
Then I flashed the ROM (NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich Beta6) to my device without any problem. Booted ICS, rebooted into recovery and flashed Data2SD installer wich didn't give any errors either.
Booted again and now it's stuck in bootscreen, I've waited for at least 45 to 60 minutes before removing the battery and try everything again all over, but with an EXT4 partition just like Yank555 did.
I followed the instructions from this post without flashing APP2SD Killer first since that causes the market to 'hang on app install'
I know there are people how got it to work so it must be something I did wrong! Can anyone give me some good advice?
BTW FYI, I did previously use TyphooN Gingerbread 2.3.3 CM7 A2SD with 1GB EXT partition without any problems...
Hi,
For me it seems you're doing it right...
Your ext4 partition IS a primary partition ? I suppose yes, since CWM will do it that way when you use it to partition your SD card.
Just to be sure, you did reformat the ext3 partion to ext3, or the swap ? I don't know how DATA2SD will react to finding 2 "sd-ext" partitons (more than one ext2/3/4 partiton), never tried that before... If you don't intend to use any swap, you'd rather leave that one out in CWM (choose 0Mb)...
JP.
PS: If you want to use swap (hard swap on a swap partition) I can explain to you how to do that. If you want to do it using a swapfile (once DATA2SD is up & running, you can have a look here).
Tanks for your reply. I don't have much time this weekend due to Christmas shopping and everything But I determent to get this to work! And I won't stop till I do. I'm using this ROM for every day and I just need more space. I found there are more people with the same issue as me, so when I get it to work I'll post my findings in the main development threat as well. But I'll make sure to give you all the credit that is due...
Fixed it! Did had to use sort of a "work-around" but it's working and it's all good! That's most important! If anyone else is looking for the solution for this problem, this is what I used and what works for me!

Please give thanks where they are due, that is to the original poster offcourse and not me!
The fixed work-around is App2SD rite? I think it will be good if we can get Data2SD working. I think the latter is faster.
I also read some managed to get Data2Ext working in Tytung ICS Beta7 already. See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403710
