Parts MB525 and MB526 interchangeable? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I broke the screen of my Moto Defy+ (MB526) which I obviously want to replace.
However, here (NL) we only have parts (such as replacement screens etc) for the Moto Defy (MB525) available.
Does anybody know if hardware parts such as screens/digitizers etc. are interchangeable between the MB525 and the MB526?
Thanks in advance,
TY

Although not absolutely certain, but I think they're identical with respect to the touch screen and hence parts should be swappable between models

All the parts are interchangeable (caution with camera and battery) between defy and defy+.

Ignore of your taking about digitizer
I may be wrong but afaik display comes with rev versions so make sure its the same revision(may be written on the display itself

Take care about battery and camera, all other parts are interchangeable, i think.

As far as display and digitizer goes its all the same Ive replaced mine manually with a chinese one. Works fine. Remember your speaker orientation before popping it out. Might not matter but why risk it and it looks identical rotated.

Slight bit of an OT regarding our Defy Screen.
Since you replaced yours with a Chinese replacement LCD, how's the quality of the display? Is it par with the original Defy LCD?
Though i always use the freezer trick to fix dead pixels on my Defy. I'm planning on also replacing my LCD with a Chinese one hoping that it will be more tough on dead pixels..
Thanks.

chipset used in defy+ is little different to that of the defy. Some Parts may cause problem

Hey,
Can you confirm the quality of chinese LCDs? I am getting MB525 LCD, which I hope is compatible with MB526. My phone, got dropped from bed & not almost half of the screen is black.
I stay in Mumbai, India.
Tnx.

[Q] Mystery Part?

I purchased a used MyTouch 4G that had been dropped and has a cracked digitizer. While disassembling the phone, I came upon a small, clear plastic piece that was lying loose inside. I've looked at a number of disassembly videos, but I don't see this part showing up in any of the videos. I've attached two photos of the part (on top of the phone battery, for reference). The white part on it is a bit of adhesive.
Can anyone help identify this part and where it belongs in the MyTouch 4G?
that looks like it can probably be some thing that goes over one of the lenses. or maybe not for the mt4g at all but for a device that uses a trackball.

Yeah, I think it looks like something that would involve the camera, flash, or light sensor but I can't see where it would fit.
Anyone seen this part during their 4G disassembly?
I've seen that part. I just took one apart last weekend. The same part was in mine, broken into 3 pieces. I have no idea what it was supposed to be doing.
That sort of looks like a spacer of some kind. Maybe something to do with the proximity sensor or the microphone. Not sure exactly what it's purpose is
It doesn't seem like a critical part, but I'd sure like to know where it goes. The size of it seems to preclude it from being mounted along the edge, and there just isn't enough room around the front camera or light sensor for it to fit.
I wish there was a complete part breakdown for this phone. Anyone have their MT4G apart now that could verify this part?
think its a stabilizer for camera..keeps in check

I looked at a number of web sites, no one sells the part. And looked at repair videos, never saw that part in any of them. I repaired the phone (new digitizer and keypad) and reassembled without the part, everything works great.
Stuck the mystery part in a bag, maybe someday it will find its home

Sorry to bump such an old thread...
I recently replaced the rear camera in my wife's myTouch 4G and came upon this same part (broken in two, mind you). The part is a baffle/diffuser of some sort. It goes behind the white flash/torch LED.
Mystery solved...18+ months later.

[Q] Defy CM7.2 Replaced Digitzer now strange malfunction only in lower screen area

Hi XDA,
on my Defy (MB525) I had a broken digitizer. I replaced with a digitzer bought off EBay which went surprisingly fine with the help of a few YouTube-Videos showing it.
Every thing works (including proximity) anyhow a few screen areas (lower left side) where major cracks have been do not work with the new screen. As an example: I have SwiftKey installed (QWERTZ-Layout) and when I press e on it, the keyboard shows w and r (which are adjacent to e). The same goes for the entire row below it. The effect can be reproduced with other applications or keyboards as well, and is pretty annoying.
Question: Is there anything on the software-side where I can fix this or is the replacement digitizer faulty? If the latter is the case, is there any recommended source in Europe?
I appreciate all your answers and suggestions!
Cheers,
frickelbarde
The digitizer in question was faulty.
Don't buy the Chinese stuff, watch for genuine parts. For the Defy there is a polish guy on EBay who sells built-out originals for ~15€. The one I bought worked.
Cheers,
Frickelbarde

[Q] Black screen after replacing LCD, help!

Hello guys, I dropped my phone so I ordered a LCD replacement since I got some blue dots on the screen, I replaced it, but it shows nothing, only black screen, but it flashes like doing something, I thought it was broken, so the seller sent me another one, and it has the same problem, this is weir,d I don't think the seller is giving me broken LCD screens, is there anything that I can try on the screen, it's no the motherboard, because everytime I switch between the replacements and the original one (the damaged one) it works with no major installation procedures, I mean, two broken LCD screens is weird, could you help me out please? thank you!
That means you didn't ordered the right parts (LCD is kind specific for M525 and M526?).

[Q] u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding

u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding
hi all
i am new and ignorant
(love the xda rules vid)
just bought second hand at&t impulse 4g (u8800-51) , with the bottom half of the screen, not responding to touch.
the top half works
i was told that it happened when the device got dropped.
the picture is good.
got stuck in at&t logo boot loop, and erased back to original on the android rescue screen. and its booting again
tried to reassemble the screen , but no change.
will replacing the glass plus digitizer solve it?
is there a difference between u8800 and u8800-51 screen parts? (or any other hardware for that matter?)
thanks alot
Switching the touch screen (glass) will fix your problem.
In which side do you have the notification led on? Right or left of speaker?
If it is on the right, you probably have the smaller speaker system (that's good to know if you are buying with the frame).
There is no difference in the sockets, however I have seen all Impulse 4G have the Synaptics version (black flex cable), so it would be better if you'd buy that. Some of the eBay sellers are offering the official AT&T touch screen, with the logo on it, so that would be a safe place to buy from.
-EDIT-
Some more things to know:
When they are selling with a frame, you can see it on the picture and they usually mention that somewhere too. If you took the phone open, it's easy to tell if it's big or small by looking whether it looks like this (big speaker).

thank u so much
after a long study of the different pics of sellers, i remain a confused, because i finally found enough pics
(attached)
to realize that my model always have the black cable u mentioned which comes with a SMALL speaker, while the big speaker always come with the yellow cable, but alas, my device comes with a black cable, but big speaker,
so should i go with cable color + name mentioned (AT&T Impulse 4G) + AT&T logo, (which all calls for a Small speaker) OR , should i go with speaker size (big) ?
regarding my indicator position, it is to thr right when i look from the inner angle (like the photo of the big speaker that u added

That's the digitizer only. I don't think it's glass really, but it's easier to say it is.
I replaced mine by taking off the old digitizer from the frame. It came off pretty easily, it just needs some patience to take it apart without breaking it.
If you don't want to mess with glue, I'd suggest this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digitizer...356?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abfc0011c
It's without the AT&T logo. I cannot guarantee it will fit though, there is always this chance Huawei modified something else between the U8800 and -51.

i prefer not to risk peeling, for breakage, and gluing, for moisture and mess.
i am starting to think that my digitizer was not original, and that is why it failed.
and feels like plastic. i found an original part at cellulardr.com for about 70$ vs. the 10-$15 ebay ones.
so maybe the seller put on impulse 4g, a big earpiece frame, with a yellow cable digitaizer. what a mess!
i attach a pic of big vs small earpieces. i believe the ''big'' is the one with golden terminals.
i think i will get a cheap ebay small earpiece frame with a black cable digitizer (like the original had, i believe) , with a 5$ small earpiece as extra.
god. why do i feel like Sherlock Holmes ?

This is only with glass.
You can buy a used one for under $70 or an OEM frame with glass. In my op, its not worth to fix.

i am sorry - what is not worth fixing ?
yes, i am going to buy a small earpiese frame with black cable plus a small earpiece,
but seeing my old digitizer, i am starting to think (because of the price difference from the original) that all these E-bay so called "glass" , 10-15$ , advertized digitizers ,are actually made of plastic ??
but i will not "invest in an expensive glass before i am happy with the new device.
so far i have not seen used original digitizers.
if i am happy with the device, i might start looking for a"for parts" u8800-51 deal on E-bay
thanks again

Yes, but $70 and you have a brand new one. Basically, fixing it is more trouble than selling it.

the cheapest new impulse 4g i could find cost 150$. i do get your point, but i already invested time and money on it and i can't sell a device that i am not sure of his condition. also its a little bit exciting for me if i manage to make it work.
is there any way to bypass the faulty touch screen ,for sake of testing the phone,

If you are on ics+(from the screenshoot I think you are) go to developers settings and enable show touches and pointer location option to see if screen responds somehow when you touch the dead side of the screen. Also try see if the red portion side is working when you rotate the phone in landscape mode (by working I mean being able to see your touch and/or see your pointer location)
If this doesn't work, try flashing a rom again(better an old gb one like stallion or cm7)
If this doesn't fix your problem, try to very gently clean your screen when phone is off with a glass cleaning cloth.
If nothing works, your best bet is to visit a local phone repair store.
try a new rom first,if it isn't fixed and you have a torx 4 screwdriver you can tear the phone apart (since you are out of warranty) and try to disconnect and reconnect the tft screen connector from the motherboard.
If that doesn't work also you may have a broken screen (not the digitizer, the screen is beneath the digitizer) .You can order a new one from ebay, its only 10-15 dollars! I have replaced mine its really easy if you are careful and cost free. There are many guides on xda and youtube.
If you send it to service it will cost a lot of money,i think you can get a used phone for that money.I suggest try fixing it yourself if you are confident with electronics
If these red lines are something YOU marked on the screenshot just to show us the problematic area it could be just the digitizer if touch is the only problem.Try disconnecting and reconnecting it.The digitizer is even easier to replace,it costs the same money 10 dollars and you can replace it in about 10-15 minutes, just make sure you get one that comes with the bezel (the metal looking screen surrounding) so it is even easier!
buy complete touchscreen+glass or you can have the problem of the dust in the screen (i need to resend my phone to service center because the service center have done a bad work :crying: )
For me the same. And even they replaced screen from synaptics to atmel which i dont really like
