[Q] Nav buttons on left - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which custom ROMs support having the Nav buttons on the left side. I'm using PA and I like it, but I'd like to try some others as well. I'd really like a battery icon that shows the percentage.

For the option of Nav buttons on the left I am fairly sure I read that this custom ROM has that feature:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998585

I'm a huge fan of the true tablet UI (single bar at the bottom with clock and notifications on the right, and navigation buttons on the left) so I'm using SGT7 ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065049. Its based on CM 10.1
It also has the option for battery percentage.
EDIT: just released today is a pure AOSP ROM with tablet ui. I haven't tested it but I'm sure its solid: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078315

Move home and back button?

Is there any option to move the home back and app switcher buttons? I have to stretch to reach them, is there anyway to move them so they are on the side like the menu button?
Agreed. Personally I'd like to see the controls fixed to the bottom left as they are for most other tablets. Would also much prefer the status icons switched to the bottom right, where there's much more screen space to make them bigger
I agree with you. I'm a Xoom user since it came out. This is one modification of the OS that I think is a step backwards.
It's because the Nexus 10 uses the "Phablet" UI instead of a Tablet UI. Wait a few weeks for some custom Roms to come out. Someone for sure will cook something up
Completely agree... keeping in the phablet mode may be ok for 7" devices, or even in portrait mode, but in landscape mode, those buttons are not easily reached with the thumb making it very awkward
Hi,
still nothing new with moving/positioning these buttons?
Root -> flash AOKP rom mr robinson -> go to settings -> rom control-> tablet ui -> choose tablet ui
(At least , this is what i do )
Find more settings there to move wathever you want
( write a pm to mr robinson if you want more customisation in the future )

I have gone to a full screen display and replaced the buttons using a combination of:
full!screen+ which removs the top and botton bars plus allows me access to notifications as a popup from one of the four screen corners
LMT Launcher's PIE to which I add the standard "home back and app switcher buttons ... etc". It can do so much more besides just that. PIE overlays any app by thumbing over a specific side of the display and auto disappears when not used. It even overlays during video playback without stopping the video.
Definitely read the documentation in the LMT Launcher post, as that and a little time trying the various options will really enhance your experience.
After using these two apps for more than a month I feel having the top and bottom bars are a waste of screen space.
I am running rooted Stock 4.2.2.
Yep there are lots of ROMs now that enable tablet UI for those who want the buttons on the left side. And some ROMs that do not have the option enabled have a tabletUI mod that can be flashed to it, like Sentinel 4.60

[Q] ROM advice needed

I have a Nexus 4 and after playing with stock, CM and PA ended up with a little "wish list" for my perfect ROM:
- ability to auto-hide both statusbar and navbar
(I mean they have to show-up only when needed, with a swipe or some sort of trigger)
- ability to customize nav-ring targets
(to add something more than Google Now).
For what I gather Slim Bean has these features, but would like to ear from more experienced XDA heads.
Thanks a lot guys!

Hi Mate,
Try Carbon ROM, Its pretty feature rich and runs slick.
Cheers, SUmit
CM has the first feature to auto hide status and nav bar it's under settings/system/expanded desktop to turn it on/off hold down the power button and you'll see the option.
Not sure what you mean about nav-ring controls, U mean like pie?
CM's Expanded Desktop doesn't let you show statusbar or navigation buttons with a swipe up/down; to view a notification you have to exit Expanded Desktop mode.
Navigation-ring is the ring which pops-up when you swipe from the bottom, the one normally used to launch Google Now.
For the nav ring in cm 10.1, you can add 2 more targets for a total of 3 and customize them under system->settings->quick launch shortcuts.

Yep, I know about CM customization options, but what I'm looking for is a ROM with BOTH the features mentioned in OP.

Do a nandroid and install slim bean and see if it works, if it doesn't flash another ROM to try and restore your backup.
However, on carbon (and presumably other ROMs) you can enable Expanded Desktop and use PIE for navigation and then, by enabling the chevron targets in the pie settings, flick up to either side from pie to show quick settings or notifications, depending on the side you flick up to.

ROM With Navbar Positioning?

I'm curently on Thundercat, primarily because it offers Navigation bar positioning (default/centre, left or right). Could anyone let me know if there are other KK ROMs for my Nexus 10 with this option.
I don't necessarily want full Tablet Mode, but having the Navbar Left is kinda nice! Thanks!

Looking for a highly customizable 5.1 rom

Currently I have AOKP 4.4.4 on my phone and it has so many options (see google images search for examples) in its "Rom control" menu. But this rom has started draining battery so I need to get another ROM.
I have tried Cyogenmod 12.1 and Omni ROM, both based on Android 5.1 and they are both pretty similar and they have very little customization options for status bar and navigation buttons and its pretty sad. Its 2015. All roms should have options like displaying the Day of the week in the status bar, letting me completely customize the navigation buttons and so on.
The options I need are:
- customizable menu buttons such as home, power, back button. I want to be able to change the order, add buttons, even use graphics as buttons so I can change the look of the button. Assign a button to anything whether its opening an App or turning off the screen.
- Customizable status bar. I want to have Date, Day of week, time, Battery percent (number) and also battery icon
So can anyone suggest any ROMS? I can use Multi-Rom which lets me quickly try other roms so I can try them all easily.

I tried this which is the 'unofficial' Omni rom 5.1.
I did try 4.4.4 Omni which is the latest official.
My main question is: I am looking for a highly customizable 5.1 rom.

Cool. I'm trying this rom now.
There's lots of roms but its hard to find a nice stable rom with all the features I need so I thought I would ask if people can suggest any.

How to get a simple freaking Nav Bar

So yeah, both my back and menu capacitive buttons are broken, I need some way to add a nav bar to my phone.
I tried the "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" on build.prop and it does not work.
Tried Resurrection Remix and some other roms which do offer a nav bar, but my phone gets overheated as **** and battery lasts no longer than half a day with normal use.
Is there any other way to add a nav bar ? I could be running kitkat or lollipop, i dont really care, all I want is to have a nav bar on the bottom of my screen.
Help please.
Try the SlimPie feature. It's that thing where you drag from the edge of the screen and various buttons pop up.
Resurrection Remix has it. And Slim roms too. Other roms that combine features should also have it.
It's your best bet if the actual nav bar doesn't work.

I did tried RR, but the overheating and battery drain on there was simply incredible, plus google play services along with other processes kept crashing.
Would you mind linking me to other roms which I should try?
I'm currently testing GearCM to see if it overheats or not.
Isn't there any way to add a nav bar to a stock OS? I mean I don't want any fancy features other than the nav bar, thats all i want.

Oh, you have a I9500. I have an I9505. So I can't suggest any roms, sorry.
Try finding a rom which has the SlimPie feature I was talking about. It's not a nav bar, but it's the closest you will get.
I don't know if there are any nav bar apps, but google can surely give you some answers.
Cm 12.1 already offers that, not satisfied?
Download slimpie (note: its not available in the play store, so search in google for its apk)
