going to buy in two days note2 or nexus 4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just wants to ask nexus 4 user is this set worth its money,or i go fo note 2.?plz reply

I vote for the Nexus. Stock Android is just too good to give up.

Nexus 4's totally worth the money

You're asking for biased posts. If i walked into a samsung store and asked for help from one of their employees.
Hey, I need help deciding what phone to get. Should I get the note 2 or a nexus 4? Nexus is made by their competitor, LG. Obviously he's going to tell you note.
Get what you want. It's really your decision, I don't think any of are looking to beg you to buy the phone. Regardless, you'd be happy with either phones. Android is android.
Spec wise, they're both relatively close, Nexus will always have the latest version. Size screen and development are your only considerations.

Both great devices and is for two different persons. The choice varies from person to person and no one can choose one for you. But if you ask this on nexus forum, of course people will vote for nexus because we obviously preferred nexus over note. If you ask same question on note forum, people will choose note.
You want stock android, easy rooting, fast, and nice cheap smartphone? Nexus is the way to go
You want giant screen, s pen, also fast, phablet? Go with note.

If you want a toy get a note 2, if you want an adrenaline experience get the nexus 4
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

definitely get a note 2. my sister has it and the battery life is just amazing. GPS is also way faster than nexus 4. in the end it's up to you though. i didn't feel much of a difference between stock android 4.2 vs samsung touch wiz on the note 2. IMO, the samsung additions are even better than stock android. they have some nice interfaces. my advice is to try both for yourself and see what YOU LIKE. otherwise you'll just be listening to people and when you get either one yourself based on people's opinions, you might be disappointed.

Galaxy S III or Galaxy Nexus?

Hi, I want to buy a new phone and I'm choosing between the Galaxy Nexus and S III. Which one do you recommend? I like how the Nexus looks, and getting updates first. I like the specs in the S III but I'm not a big fan of how it looks and I definitely don't like the TouchWiz UI. Where I live there is not much difference in price. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
The current Nexus phone has been out for a while now. It was initially released in 11/17/2011 and made its way to the US in 12/15/2011, it is about 7-8 months old already. The S3 on the other hand is much more recent.
With that said, I, too, find Nexus more attractive because it's not filled with bloatware and is pure Google and gets updates quickly. If you can wait, I'd recommend to hold off until the next Nexus phone is released.
In terms of price, you can get a nexus for 1 cent on Amazon wireless, 149.99 for a gs3.
In terms of feature set and specs, its all preference. I love the big screen on the s3 and its classy look versus the dull galaxy nexus grey.
If price is no object get the s3 hands down, just be patient on ROMs.

I agree with the above post, but not completely. What carrier are you on? If its Verizon, with the locked bootloader debacle of the galaxy s3, they may not get the new nexus. Additionally, the Verizon nexus didn't get the updates as fast as the GSM versions. On the other hand, if you are on a GSM carrier and are completly happy with your coverage, i would maybe wait for the nexus.
I do love my Galaxy s3, but i will always be envious of the nexus.
depends on upgrade
if you have the $199 upgrade option to galaxy s iii, then take that. if you're paying straight cash, i'd get the nexus probably second hand from ebay or swappa.
Stay away from the nexus, is great as a multimedia device and to mess around with ROMs but is horrible as a phone.
I would get the s3, cm9 is stable enough for daily driver and cm10 will be stable soon, I like the GSM galaxy nexus but internal storage kills it, and the camera is not good enough sometimes , s3 you can switch over cm9 if you dislike touchwiz so much

Google it!! S3 vs gnex
Where I live I must buy the GSM unlocked phone, either with the Nexus or the S III

I'd go with the s 3. The galaxy nexus is fast becoming outdated
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Get the S3 if you don't mind signing a contract. The hardware specs such as the S4 processor, GPU and 2GB of RAM are better than what the Nexus is offering. However, if you want Jelly Bean now, then get the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus with no contract.
At this point I would say, if you can wait a few more months, just hold out for the next Nexus. (If you really want a nexus device)
I had nexus and now have sg3 the nexus is not good and not loud
Im on my SG3
The gs3 hands down...the device flat out runs sweet even on stock touchwiz. I can definately hold off until cm10 is fully functional!
I just ordered the Nexus this morning. Thanks everyone for the valuable advice

I see people saying wait for the next Nexus. Is there some kind of overall consensus on when it will come out (by the forum-goers)? Because when I think about it, I can definitely see a situation where the next one comes out maybe even mid-next year or later...
I have also had this question in my mind (S3 vs. Nexus). I'll probably go for the better hardware and use diff ROMs if necessary (I really like Jelly Bean and I fear how long it may take S3 to get that...)

Thats a lame comment. Yes The Nexus is Older, but in the end, it does not mater if you have a 18Mp camera and you are stock on Gingerbread and waiting for samsung or your carrier to push you bloatware and updates once a year..
I own a Nexus and I am on Android 4.1.1 already.

Lol. I don't necessarily feel the S3 is THAT much better than the Nexus, but I love how everyone says S3 and this guy orders the Nexus anyway.

Excellent. :good:

Wanna move on but to what!

Hello guys!
Its been a real pleasure being with Nexus S
Its a great cell phone, I love it but now I am at point where I have to change my cell phone, now I wanna buy a LG Nexus 4 but it has not come in my country yet and i dont know when would it come..
So that and the price factor gives me a choice to have either Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S II (Yes 2 not 3 )
now in my head i dont need fast updates because i always use a custom rom and i am ok with even a lower one,
I have used GB in nexus s even though i tasted JB
So the updates are not a problem for me, I just want a cell phone that can last me at least a year with a nice play for the upcoming games or anything else like that.
What would you advise me to buy? GSII or GNex?
If some other with the same specs or better but with same price factor then kindly let me know..
Can't go wrong with either. If you care about roms then the gnex would be the best since it will get the major android updates til the software is to much for the hardware.

+1.
Seriously, choosing between the GNex and the S2? That's not fair because the S2 was released by Samsung to steal market from the Nexus S after releasing the latter. (IMHO, the S2 is just a Nexus S on steroids). Now if you are choosing between the GNex and the S3, that would be a better comparison, the S3 is better in hardware but would take 10 years to get an update compared to the Gnex, but like you said, if you're happy with ROMs like CM or AOKP, then it would probably matter less.

GNex.
GNex would probably be a better choice. It's a pretty great phone.
There will only be one upgrade for me and that will be the s3.
I love the Nexus brand but a Wolfson DAC is a must for me in any new phone.
I'm happy now with my NS. But in a few years I will get the s3.

The SGSII and the GNex are extremely similar. The GNex has a slightly lower pixel density on the camera, but a little larger screen.
If you're in love with AOSP roms, the GNex will be the way to go. If you just want another phone and have the money to blow on a good SD and such, then go SGSII.
I contacted one of the market dealer today and he said that in a few weeks they would have LG Nexus 4
If that comes then i would go for it else I would buy Gnex then
Thanks all for help

[Q] Switching to Android

Hi I have finally grown sick of iOS after owning iPhone's for the past 3 years, and I need advice. Should I use the "pure" Nexus phone or should I use a phone with a manufacture skin? Will I have a better experience with pure android or an overlayed one?
Only you can answer that.
I would suggest you sending as much time with each device of your interest in the stores as possible and go from there.
Obviously the n4 will be hard to get a feel for as its not just able to be held in stores, already in my area, so a gnex will get you a good feel for vanilla android.

Unfortunately neither the 4 or the Gn are available in store in New Zealand( where I live) although I have grown used to instant software updates on my iPhone so maybe Nexus is the best device for me?
Part of that will depend on who majes the phone, I think.
For instance, my experience with Samsung's touchwiz has been only passable--even on jellybean. But even still, I've vastly improved that by the use of custom launchers; Nova being my go to option.
Additionally, if u like to tinker a bit you can always root your device and get a more vanilla experience.
Cheers.

Taking a phone well known by a community gives you a possibility to try nexus experience with CyanogenMod by custom flashing, and the experience is hair close to that on nexus.
But nexus device gets update first, while community spends some time on porting those.

I came from many iPhones to android and my first android phone was an HTC with sense. I HATED sense... It was bulky, it slowed down the phone and it looked like crap. When I rooted the phone and threw on an AOSP rom, I was much happier. The feel is simpler and everything runs smoother. Now with the N4, I am extremely happy with it.
You should still try out some other skins at your local mobile store, buy my vote would be the N4.

I came from the iPhone as well after using it for about 3 years as well. At the time, to me at least, Apple was definitely rocking it and delivered. For me though now, it's been getting boring and I've been wanting to switch to an Android phone for the last year or so, but I wanted that Pure Google experience, but I honestly thought that the Galaxy Nexus was kinda meh. But now with the Nexus 4, you get a great price, a phone of great build and quality, great specs (the best at the moment) and let us not forget that pure Google experience! There has never been a better time to hop over to Android. I was honestly considering a Note II on T-Mobile, but I really dislike carrier updates, to me they feel very slow and you wont always exactly get them. For me the Nexus 4 is the way to go. I still have a Macbook Pro and an iPad still from my old fanboy days though haha, but now I just use what's best regardless. I do want a Nexus 10' but I think I'll stick with my iPad and Macbook Pro for educational purposes in the meantime.

Exact same circumstances as you! I was getting bored of iOS and the Gnexus was just bad but this N4 is amazingly better then anything. I still have the iPad i have because its the best tablet OS and still have my MacBook pro from 2011 for my desktop OS but iOS on iPhone was getting stale and had practically no customisability so I am really looking foward to when dad buys me this epic phone!!!

Stock Jellybean experience is still light years ahead of what you have been used to with the "list of icons" UI that iOS has.
I wouldn't think two seconds about that aspect. What I would consider, coming from Apple, is the upgrade experience. When Apple and Google announce the latest stuff, it's only natural that as a end-user you want it NOW. Only Nexus delivers this promise, the Apple-like upgrade experience.
I would instantly rule out anything but a Nexus, when coming from iOS.

That's very true and another good point that I had forgotten to mention. Thanks for pointing it out. Upgrades, upgrades, upgrades. One of the main reasons I stayed with Apple for quite a while was the level of support and OS upgrades they provided, my previously retired iPhone 3Gs was from 09', yet it was able to run the latest iOS version. No other Android phone is exactly able to do that unless you root or get a custom ported ROM with the exception of the Nexus line sort of. The Nexus like you've said is a no-brainer and perhaps the only phone I'd ever consider because of the support and updates I'd get. Therefore for someone to come from iOS like OP, the Nexus is definitely your number one choice,

I suggest you should get a HTC one x, HTC one x +, or a pure android such as the N4 (nexus 4). I recommend you should do phone comparisons using gsmarena or phonearena.
I suggested HTC because it has a beautiful interface. Also, if you want a 5 inch display phone from HTC, I would say get the DNA (Verizon version) or HTC deluxe/DLX (international version)... The international version is not out yet.

The Sense GUI in my opinion isn't exactly very good for an enthusiast/power user who wants the most out of his or her phone. For the average Joe, sure it is nice and simple to use. But for those who want performance and what not, they'd still have to run the stock Android on it just to make the most use of their phone because Sense GUI is pretty RAM-hungry and uses quite a bit of resources. It is nice, don't get me wrong, but stock Android is just as nice too.

im from the uk. been trying to swap for a couple of days now. gone back to my S3 so i don't scratch it etc..
I know some people are not gonna be happy with this decision but there are some useful additional options to the Note 2 which will help me day to day.
Love the Nexus 4 and gonna be sad to see it go =( . I love the feel, screen, speed, and frustration free vanilla android 4.2.1.

I had a Note 2 for a month, and why did I return it because of the screen. AMOLED is nice for blacks and such but having had a One X as my primary phone I'm just in love with IPS display. Much sharper overall, crisp text, natural colours, the N4 screen is on par with the One X. But I think the One X screen edges the N4 slightly. But would be happy with either.
I'm quite liking the N4, using stock Android is different to using a skinned version.
Both are good phones regardless, go for whatever your needs are.
Trade? Yes, add cash? No.
I can easily buy another n4, but am unwilling to shell out $650 for a note 2

1. No selling our trading outside the marketplace. No one would trade his N4 + $$ for a Note 2.
2. A very small percentage of users on the Nexus 4 subforum stick with stock.
3. There are many threads already comparing the Note 2 and the N4. In fact, there's a ton of threads criticizing the N4 and comparing it to pretty much every flagship phone out.
4. You haven't been gentlemanly and if you showed some manners, you'd get a more genial response. Remember that you came into our forum. Everyone here clearly is sticking with their N4.

Who is dumping the N4 for the galaxy s4?

Am i the only one that feels this 16gb storage is not enough especially if you play need for speed which takes 7gb?

Oh, and INB4L.

Not getting the s4, maybe xperia z if Sony gets their sh*t together and releases c6606 soon. I don't use my phone much for gaming anymore, especially larger games like NFS. That's what the N10 is for.
I won't get a S4 unless I win one
I'll probably get one for my girl in a couple months when people who can't pay their bill start selling them on craigslist. I'm ok with my nexus for now, at least till the next one comes out

Absolutely no chance. 16GB is more than enough for me, Touchwiz is hideous, Exynos devices are notoriously difficult to port AOSP roms to and the device itself will probably be hideous too. I'd much rather have my N4
only is samsung blows the htc one away, i loved the s2 but loathe the build quality of the s3
nex4 is fine, until nexus 5 is out. then i'll switch. its not about specs. i want a free and unregulated android, google is the only one who provides that. i love software and seeing it progress, i couldn't cope with being locked out of everything that concerns android, for a couple of gb. i can't even imagine how a samsung customer watches the I/O, probably they don't, but if they do - how do they manage seeing all the nice things knowing full well its not for them. don't they feel strange when 2 hours after its over leaks rain over xda and everyone's running the latest and greatest, and they just have to wait until next fall?
If it's not vanilla Android then it doesn't get any thought from me

This is why I have the N7
And no I will not switch either. I was close to buying a s3, but the software wasn't up to par with what I am used to. My last device was the Sensation and I took off Sense 3.0 as fast as I could for JB lol. Like moles said, the customizations in just plain Android is great IMO, no need to embellish it with multiple windows or smartscrolling
It will sell on name alone regardless looking and feeling like any other TW device
I don't need a still plastic-y, spec bumped Galaxy S3. After owning the Nexus 4, Samsung is child's play. I've owned and used over a dozen android phones since '08 and the Nexus 4 is the best I've owned/used.
Still, I can't wait to at least play with the Galaxy S4 even though it will feel like an S2 and S3.

Not a chance. I have a N10 for things like that, didnt like the build of my Galaxy Nexus (Samsung), dont want a bigger screen and think the skins are horrid.
I love my N4 and won't want a GS4...am I curious about it and its hardware? Sure I am a tech nut and am always curious about new stuff...just like when the new iPhones come out I sit and watch the apple videos and such to learn about it...does it mean I want either? Hell no I don't like touch wiz, or the fact that Samsung still uses hard ware buttons and I don't like iOS or the fact that it hasn't changed in 4 or 5 years other than little things or craptastic things like siri...I love owning nexus devices for one simple reason...the software...besides that this phone is fast as heck on the processor side of things and it just so happens to be one hell of a good looking phone with the added bonus of being unlocked and not bound to some 2 year agreement makes it all the more sweeter with out shelling out $600+ like I would if I wanted the newest galaxy s iteration.

Lol how u know i am not? And even the samsung galaxy line phones have always had top notch dev support. First i thought 16gb would be enough, then i started feeling it is very limiting not to have the opten of an external sd card (very practical) also the camera quality of the n4 is not one of the best in the market. Anyways yes (the cheap quality of the galaxy+amoled screen in the sun sucks) will see what the s4 has to offer tmrw.

I have owned the Galaxy S, S2, S3 ,Note and Note2 and i liked them all (especialy the Note2) but Nexus devices have something extra imo. Easy to root and restore, fast, no bloatware, and always the latest updates and getting them first.
I think my avatar and device roster answers the question.

dev support doesnt mean crap when they have no sources. you get a lot of devs supporting one another by lending a shoulder to cry on or distributing kleenex. i am a follower of teamhacksungs blogs and dev g+ accounts, i like to read what they do. if you have nerves you best go there and take a good look what happenes when samsung releases the next big closed thing coz these guys are basically ****ed, they can sit down now for months and hack stupid things that should be open in the firstplace.
I just don't think an upgrade is necessary. 720p to 1080p is not that big of a difference compared to the jump from QHD or WVGA to 720p, and the S4 Pro is handling everything with ease. When the processor starts falling behind that I can notice it in daily use, or one of the technologies advances in a major way (battery, maybe?), I don't think I will be selling my nexus for another phone.
