N00b here. Using ktmanta kernel. Its awesome. Have UV'd to get things smooth on nfsmw based on others suggestions. But in normal uses(browsing web, swiping through app drawer, pulling up app management). I can't seem to get it to be as smooth as as stock kernel with stock ROM. I have reset voltages to default but things are just quite as smooth. Just a hitch here or there, that in every day usage I would like to get rid of. Think this is scheduler/governor related? I switched to pegasusq and cfq as you said you were running. Possibly rom related? I'm using craigacgomez ROM. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
It's the rom. I've tried more than half of the roms on here. Cm 10 has been reaaaally smooth. I haven't put kmanta on cm10 though.

Any specific nightly, or which ROM version have you had the best exp with?

Cm10 has been pretty flawless so far. Haven't gamed much on it yet though. Any other rom and kernel combo has been a laggy inconsistent mess. But I do appreciate all the time and hard work the devs put into these roms. The effort is always worth it. That's why the galaxy nexus is still hard to beat.

usually cm9 or cm9 kangs as my rom.
now the kernel is the tricky part. its almost always Trinity, but i can use 3 or 4(or more) different versions of trinity in a day. teuv is usually my while-im-at-work kernel, but i can be using t11, t132, or t144 at any given point in the day. sometimes all of them in a day. t144 is usually the kernel i like to use when im playing around. what i like about them is that they work as intended. they are all bare bone kernels(ics versions) therefore dont contain any mods that we've all gotten used to. but that also means that the trinity kernels dont contain any introduced bugs either(that many kernels wrestle with). i know ive not really explained anything, it is what it is
simms22 = only CM rom + Trinity kernel!

A CM9 .01 or whatever the heck it is. Kernel just using the one that came with it

I'm using kangs8 ics with eugene kernel speedy5. my favourite combo so far!
I'm using HAKA's KANGY v8 atm, pretty nice I have to say, occasional bug whilst flashing, but probably down to TWRP than anything.
I'm normally running Eugene's speedy kernel, fast, smooth and stable, the right balance of them all. Quite like the Matr1x as well.
I'm using Peter Alfonso's ICS with his stock kernel,no problems so far,the best ics rom out there !
Peter Alfonso is the way to go! to me he had the best GB rom and his ICS nightlies are nothing short
http://download.peteralfonso.com/
I'm using the latest CM9 kang + trinity t11 and it's smooth for me.
I'm using the Virtuous Quattro ICS RC2 ROM
Advanced Info shows kernel version as:
[email protected] #2
The only issue I have come across which is quite annoying is most videos are extremely laggy- this is irritating because its how I overcome my commute to and from work. For example the opening video sequence for Asphalt 6 HD is extremely laggy but the game plays flawlessly! I have a coupe of avi files on my device as well and they have the same problem. Sound is fine...
Apart from this everything so far functions flawlessly.
I've been using KANGY8 and SPEEDY5 up to now its been the smoothest with no reboots. Rom is butter smooth and that kernal is just crazy stable and fast. Best so far and I've flashed so many rom and kernal combinations.
I'm using AOSP+ rom with Steve Garon's kernel. I actually downclocked to 800Mhz and it gives me better battery life and it is smooth enough.

AOSP+ with Speedy-5, it's awesome.

I tried the new cm9 with matrix 14.5 and it was not stable for me. Then I tried the new gummy nexus and that rebooted every time as well lol.
AKOP 19 with any kernel or cm9 rc0 with glados have been my best combos

Hi, currently my i9023 is installed with stock ICS (ROM and kernel) and frankly, I'm quite satisfied with the performance. The battery performance is, I think, comparable with that of the stock gingerbread.
But now I'm looking for custom kernel to make battery performance even better. Do you guys have any experience what is the most suitable kernel for stock ICS, especially in battery performance area? With so many options to choose for (matr1x, kangs, eugene, and the list goes on and on... ), sometimes it can get confusing ....
Hey everyone just throwing this out there. I am a regular on the galaxy note forum but just got a n7. What is the best and quickest rom and kernel combo. At the moment I am running a friends private liquid build and motley kernel. I need more speed out of it. Any suggestions?
from the padded cell tucked away in the dark
what exactly do you need "more speed" for?
Just want to get the best out of such a powerful device

The best ROM and kernel doesn't exist, it varies for different people.

I for a rom, I personally prefer Paranoid Android, you can get Tablet UI.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Stock does the best for me.
Running stock, deodexed, with root. And the tabletUI mod. perfect.
Every rom I've tried was not near as smooth in scrolling, or as quick to open items.
Thanx for the answer guys. I have been around long enough to know there is no such thing as the best and probably should have put in peoples opinion. My bad but all ideas are welcomed coz that's how we learn

I'm using the EOS CM10 build and Trinity Seven kernel. I've tried a ****load of different combos and that combo both feels best, benched best and appears the most stable (with pretty much the only bug being with google play music).
are there alot of bugs in the current aokp build? how stable it is? i'm thinking of switching away from stock OS. should i take cynagenmod ? i heard it's more stable than aokp
In fact it's stable. I just got an issue with the Phone app fore closing when a call ends, but I wan't it to be closed anyway. No big-deal
Except this it is stable (and smoooth) as heck!
Stable so far for me, I've been running it for a day. Phone app does not force closes on me. You might want backup your apps and factory reset along with fix permission in recovery.
No problems, smooth.

some UI glitches here and there but it runs stable.
100% useable for every day.

would you guys recommend cynaagenmod over aokp?
U may also try ParanoidAndroid...its really smooth and has cool features

I've only noticed one glitch, but you won't see it unless you use carousel on the lock screen and hide hints.
Personally I like AOKP > CM. PA for me has always had bad battery, AOKP has been better. Other AOSP based ROMs are the best IMO.

yesterday i brought new nexus 4 after trading my galaxy s3
i rooted my nexus installed recovery
flashed franko kernel
and installed paranoid rom
now the phone heats up too much even on normal whatsapp chatting
i tried to underclock it from setcpu but still heating is there
later i thought may b my phone doesnt handle paranoid or franco kernal
then i flashed modaco rom
but unfortunately swipe to wake doesnt work
i have still not tested the heating problem
can anyone guide me on setcpu setting or which rom / kernal to try
i am more interested in swipe to wake function
I have similar issues with a lot of Franco releases, some apps like fun run make the phone super hot. I use Motleys kernel, overall way snappier, and battery life is just as good. It's in android original development. As far as rom I use cm10 kang one by trailblazers that's built from linaro tool chain with bionic commits, it is faster than stock cm10 for sure. Try it, both kernel and ROM are built on linaro, good combo.

I know that it did, a lot of odd issues have been happening, so he took it out I'm pretty sure it is back in though. If not, I know matrix kernel has it.

Hi, I was just wondering which ROM preforms smoother and faster as an every day ROM. Also which kernels are compatible for each...preferably over clocked kernals. Thanks.

I have not tried Liquid on 4.4 yet but I ran CM11 for a long time and never had problems.
Best way to find out is to run one for a few weeks then switch.
