JB is out now. Is the signal strength issues for 4Gs fixed?
I don't really know I got it with JB installed already, I have noticed wifi and 4G drop out every now and then for a few seconds and then kick back on.

M first came with ICS install and there are many posts about it dropping 4G to 3G and have signal strength issues. I'm just checking to see if it was fix with JB. I have a upgrade coming up and thinking about getting the M or the HD.

I bought my ns4g about a week and a half ago coming from a tbolt on Verizon. I got it at 8pm and had it rooted by 9. I immediately installed cm7 and have been using every nightly. My signal was horrible. I had nothing at work and barely one at home. It also would barely hold a wifi signal even when laying the phone right next to my router. I've updated my profile and manually put prl 60679 on the phone and nothing improved. The only time I could get 3g was using the Verizon hybrid prl ( I don't have 4g here). I called sprint and updated the msi? And the lady said I was in great coverage at work and good at home. The signal was so bad in 4 ours of the phone sitting in my pocket doing nothing I lost 50% battery everyday. So this morning I unrooted to take the phone back to sprint for an exchange. I've been using it stock for about an hour and now wifi is good even outside my house and I get 2-3 bars most of the time. Is there any reason why this would be? I have owned about 90% of Verizon's android phones so I'm not new to this, I've just never seen this kind of difference between stock and rooted. I think I will wait and see if it stays like this or gets worse now and switch to the 3d if it is still bad. I switched to the nexus s because I love plain android, butit was so bad before I couldn't even make phone calls or send text unless I got lucky and it would connect.

the only thing i know on the subject is i left my phone unrooted for a couple of days. never noticed a difference after rooting. seems to be many conflicting reports on signal issues when it comes to the nexus. i have generally lower signal (3g 4g wifi) than my evo. really hope its software related so i can get a fix.
Rooting doesn't affect the phone's radio.
Maybe the ROM was bad?
ive been watching my signal strength for a day and its usually around -86. my evo was always -90 or more
It could be the rom I just don't get it. I've never had a problem with cm7. I'm going to root and fund it stock rooted and see then maybe go with something else

-86 dbm is a *better* signal than -90 dbm.

Better look at the second number. Anything below 3 is bad reception.

damn i like soju 2.6 too. oh well stocks not bad either. i see theres 4 kernels to chose from and 2 are experimental
ok so i flashed my "out_of_the_box" back up and updated prl and profile and my status numbers are the same. i did notice tho that with soju 2.6 i was on evdo rev 0, and now back to stock im on rev A
now wtf? after i flashed a netarchy kernal (stable bfs 2.3.4) im on rev 0 again. what going on here?
Here's what I'm gauging my claim on. I live in a basement apartment so I get awful service anyway. But, on CM7 I can't make a call without it dropping, and mms is out of the question. On stock, I can almost always get through a call and mms sends no problem. I have an airave and its the same story on that. CM7 the mms just sits there with the icon spinning forever. Stock it sends almost instantly. I keep a backup of both and just switch between depending on what I'm doing.

My favorite quote "Engineers are educated beyond their intelligence." Ironically, I am in school for engineering
Now I have a problem. I rooted again and right now I am stock rooted. My signal is back to being bad again. So I can either remain stock or switch back to Verizon or go with 3vo. I came to sprint just for this phone so I can root and play. I don't know what to do. I have 18 days left until my 30 is up...

I rooted a couple days ago, haven't noticed much of a difference in signal strength practically... BUT my time without signal went from 1% to about 8% . Obviously battery life suffered somewhat.
Currently I'm on EvDO rev. A.
Will continue to post updates.
So I have switched to the hybrid 00001 prl for now and I get decent signal, eve get some at work. I figure if I'm going to switch tithe 3vo in a week I won't go over the 300mb roam limit. Its a shame too I like this phone, I just want something j can play with.

EVDO rev 0 to rev A switches depending on signal quality.

I have been flashing different roms for a long time. I never had a problem with my 4g connection. I'm now stuck on 3g. I have tried GB, ICS & JB ROMS. It doesn't matter which one I use u only get 3g. Sometimes I see the H for 4g but only for a few seconds or barely one minute. I have flashed different radios and some of them gave me 4g but only for a short time. I have formatted my sd card and did a full wipe before all the new roms. Nothing is helping me stay in 4g.
I'm not over on my data usage either.

It might just be your phone trying to save battery so its switching to 3g instead of using 4G or it might just be telling you that its 3G. Have you done a speedtest when the 4g flashes on and off
When I have 4g I get 6mbps down and 2 mbps up. On 3g I get 3 down and less than 1 up. How do I the phone to stop trying to save the battery? Even though I didn't have this problem before. I go all over town and it just doesn't stay on 4g.

Try a new ROM, or reflash the radio. but, if you're wanting to go back to 2.3.4 rooted, and want to get Gingerbread even better, check out myGinger ROM in the Dev section. I made it myself

I only got my n7 a couple of weeks ago and almost immediately updated to 4.2. I didn't notice any issues. Immediately after the 4.2.1 update I keep getting random connection issues. I have to turn wifi off and on to resolve it.

I had the issue.. 32gb version in the US with the sep build. I actually had it prior to to 4.2.1. I ended up going into advanced properties and changing wifi to always on. Drains battery, but fewer need to turn wifi off and back on.

Yes. I have WiFi disconnects and random reboots since the new update .

WiFi Fixer
I use WiFi Fixer downloaded from Google Play. When the connection is dropped it automatically reconnects after a second or two.
Same on my 7 WiFi stops working at random times turn WiFi off and on fixes it, only started after 4.2.1 update

My WiFi is always on and tethered to my evo3d at least 8 hours a day. Not a single problem under 4.2.1.

Just to clarify, i'm having this problem 100% stock. Not rooted what so ever. Roms/kernels could have this eliminated. But I wouldn't know.

No wifi internet / e-mail / notifications after 4.2.1
I am having a similar issue. Stock Nexus 7, never rooted, installed the 4.2.1 update when it was pushed. Since then I can connect to wifi connections but there is no internet access. While the icon in the upper right has small flashing arrow like data is being sent back and forth, the icon remains gray and no internet-requiring services on the tablet work. I've tried everything that I (and Google Play and Asus support) could think of with no luck.
The only thing they could come up with at the end was to restore the tablet to factory settings. Unfortunately I have application data that I need to back up that I can't access by accessing the internal storage using my laptop (I'm stock, remember?).
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here. Anyone have any suggestions? It was very frustrating when the Asus representative suggested I use the built-in backup and restore feature:
Me: "That requires internet access to work right?
Asus representative: "Oh....right..."
My Wi-Fi on both my Nexus 7's is very slow. They stay connected fine but I'm getting about 150kbps download speeds. I factory reset one of them to no prevail. Anyone have any insight on this or heard of others with this issue? All my other devices work fine on the same Wi-Fi connection and I tried turning everything else off so just the Nexi where connected to see if the speeds are faster, but they aren't. I'm stock on both devices and both are the 16gb version, one older than the other.

Known issue. I logged a bug with Google and there's actually several open bugs reporting wifi issues. So far, none of the bugs are being picked up by google officially.

I've tried this same thing, and as soon as I installed 4.2, WiFi went to sh**. Completely stock.
So turning wifi off then on seems to be the generally excepted quick fix?

Or use Static IPs. That solved it for me. I had to ask my company to provide a reservation for my MAC Address. It's like back in the 90s when Wifi started coming out using the BellLabs/Lucent chipset.
Hello I have been having an issue where when connected to wifi and on gsm/Lte in the testing menu the gsm Signal drops to no bars and I'm emergency calls only. When I change to wcdma preferred it's okay. When wifi is off its also okay. I have not changed anything for months apart from dling the latest Franco kernel nightlies. I'm on Rogers from Canada. I don't think it's a network thing since when wifi is off I get Lte

Probably a kernel issue. Find a version that works and stick with it instead of doing the nightlies (which are prone to have things break).
It's not the kernel, I put the stock one back on and the same issue. It's been rainy here the past couple days, I wonder if that plays in.

Maybe something to do with how you setup LTE since the phones really not meant to have it. Maybe a good place to look is in the thread specifically for LTE in the General Section, its pinned to the top of the section.

I'm using my s4 at work. Normally I have full signal and 4g.
Since this morning the 4g icon appears then goes back to 3g after a couple of seconds. I noticed a Miperroractivity app in my recent apps.
Any ideas?

I'm getting the same thing. Started after I updated to MF9, seems to happen just like you say when 4g drops out I get an error msg stating no wireless media activity then that is posted in recent apps.
This is being covered under another thread.
