Hi Guildies,
Bought this best toy hd2 today from CL. Its already rooted and came with 4.04 cyanogen. and came without sd card.
So i read a lot of forums and i was wondering about some basics.
1 SHould i go with HD2 Android SD Development OR HD2 Android NAND Development
2 I saw lots of videos about native sd roms
3 I already have CWM recovery. do i need to keep CWM or should i install 4EXT.
As i had used original android gears like htc evo 3D , galaxy s2 i was wondering which method can give me flexibility to flash any roms without connecting to PC.I just wanna flash easy from SD card.I am a flash junkie , i flash roms so often. Thanks to all developers
Any advise will be greatly appreciate. I don't have even Tmobile but i bought this toy to just play as i heard it can run so many OS.
You require to search and read in the forum as much as possible, since there are many things to be tried on hd2. Believe me, it could take months for you to understand how things work on this phone and which ROM do you prefer as a daily driver or what you would like to have on your NAND and SD. Also, since you aren't using TMOUS version, you have to be specific for trying out roms for your device, but generally majority of android roms are compatible with both versions. 4EXT Recovery is the easiest option for flashing android roms directly, which also does not require any installation.
For native SD method and to flash roms directly from your SD card, refer the Native SD thread.

Hi Everyone first post since owning my i9000 since it came out and have followed xda since then. I would like to thank all the devs for everything they have done for this phone as the amount of improvements we have seen.. have been nothing short of brilliant... many thanks.
I am currently running aokp and it's excellent and also have cwm backups of other Roms on the phone. These are all Mtd Roms.
I have looked all over xda and it seems to me that we could convert the many good gingerbread roms to run in the new MTD partiton without reverting back to odin and wiping the phone only to have to do it all over again if we want try the many good custom and stock gingerbread Roms.
The flexability we would all gain from being able to flash other Roms without reverting back to odin would be great for everybody ... but there isn't a kernel to do this unfortunately.. I know I've looked back to the begining of all of the threads and can't find one ... or make one.
I have researched how these roms could be converted to run in the MTD partition and have a good idea how to pack them to run, I am not a rom chef or a dev so it would be just a re-pack. But the rom chefs would do this themselves if we had a touchwiz-MTD kernel made for this task.
I will not show how you go about re-packing a rom to run cause everyone would
try it without the necessary kernel and probably mess up their phone .. so best not.
Could we have one last missing -link kernel just to square the circle and run a stock samsung gingerbread rom in the MTD Partition... we would the be able to keep these as cwm backups and switch to any rom we like.
One last plea for the end of life galaxy S . . Great Phone
Hi all,
My HD2 had upgraded from WM to android 2.2.
However, the system is unstable lately (it rebooted occasionally).
Thus, I wonder whether I can do another upgrade to either 2.3 or 4.0?
Could you suggest which version is more stable and functioning well?
Also the how-to?
Thx a lot.
Yes you can do an upgrade, have a good read first as these are custom ROM & bugs will be present, those 2.3.xx versions are pretty much stable nowadays but you can give ICS - different flavours - a try also. Go the the SD ROM thread & if your phone has MAGLDR all you have to do is put the ROM in SD & boot from there or try the link below
Thx for the suggestion.
Just another Q: Why to store image in the SD? Doesn't it slow down the boot up time?
What's the benefit on the other hand?
Much appreciated.
NexusHD2 series GB & ICS are very stable and fast ROMs.
I am now using an ICS one and I am very pleased
You can found guides about flashing in my signature.
If you`re interested only in Android you should choose a NAND version to avoid slowness.
You can upgrade to this rom, now it is stable enough, enjoy.

So I've been using my hero for a good 3-4 years and its been rooted and I've tried a variety of roms up to and including the ICS ones more recently. So I guess this thread is really me asking much more experienced people what roms, settings etc to use. I've tried Elelinux which was great for a long time but recently it seemed to not respond to my input so well and other roms don't seem as stable or quick generally.
But throughout my time using different roms etc i've heard about SD Card Partitions but I've never actually done it and I'm wondering 1) how and 2) why? what benefits do you actually get from doing it?
Another question I have is the recovery when you're flashing a new rom etc - I have one I downloaded from these forums a few years ago after I first rooted my phone and I've never thought to see if there was a different version or different features. I heard that there is a version 5 of Clockwordmod I'm wondering if its better than the RA-hero 1.7.0.1 I currently have. Another question I have is, if I do flash a new recovery will I lose my current backups?
Finally, I'm interested in finding out which is a quick, stable rom that will be good for daily use. I've tried MIUI and an early version of SCHPONGLE if that's the current name, by 1cebox and they're quick roms but not quite stable enough for long term use. I don't mind what version it runs as long as it can run Google Maps, Youtube, Sony Remote and IMDB apps.
Any advice?
The answer to why partitioning an sd card is here. I have done it and it really helps my little Hero since it doesn't have much ram. Instructions on how you can partition the sd are using Amon RA are here.
Flashing a new recovery (like the last Clockwordmod available on Hero) does not erases your backups, i know that by personal experience
Clockworkmod has the ability to allow you to browse the directories for zip installing instead of having the zip files only on the root dir. It also can install zip files even if there are not signed properly. The only problem i had (with the last version) is that it doesn't support old upgrade scripts but i can live with this "bug". To me, Clockworkmod vs Amon RA is just a matter of personal taste.
If your main language is English (which is not my case ), i suggest you the SCHPONGLE Rom which is really fast and well done. Everything works just fine there as 1ceb0x made a great job !
I am actually using the Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 which i can have in Italian and has everything working well enough. I am expecting the fix of GPS and pinch-to-zoom bugs in [ICS 4.0.4] AOKP [Team Legacy] rom because after testing the CM9 made by jordfaz, for fore than 2 weeks, all i can cay that it's fast (really fast !) and that i turned back to Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 only because i miss GPS.
Have a nice day

I'm directing this question to the Nook devs here since you guys are so awesome at developing for an "antiquated" device...
I'm looking at cooking up a ROM for a different device (Samsung Illusion) that has practically no development at all. I managed to find a root process that flashes via Odin through USB, however there are no custom ROMs anywhere besides a rooted stock GB.
Since you guys have done so well cooking up ICS and JB ROMs for the Nook, where do I start to develop for this device? I don't even see CWM available, so I'm basically starting at the very beginning with this just so I can start getting nandroid backups.
I know, I'm jumping in the deep end of the pool here...
Like the title already says i am looking for the best ROM for the Galaxy S4 to use everyday so it has to be stable and bugfree.
The reason why i dont want the stock touch wiz rom anymore is that it lets only 9gb free on my 16 gb model.
Please recommend me ROMs that are reliable and if possible also with the ability to move Apps to the SD Card.
Thanks and greetings
Any rom is stable and no rom is bugfree.
Couldnt you have posted in one of the 3268 existing best ROM threads

Best as in what the hell is subjectivity.
I would recommend
Lollipop german version.
Echoerom.
But for you. Try the cm12 alucard and antaresone's rom. I find it refreshing . Bonus: it's like 400mb in total. Including gapps.:good:
I find the GPE roms to be very good.
I tried the CM12 Optimzed builds and faced several problems.
With the GPE roms I've never had any trouble. Also have great battery life.
