[Q] Nexus 7 accident - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I opened my nexus 7 to readjust the back cover so that it would not creak anymore. In the process, I accidently snapped one of the protruding tiny copper prongs/hooks off. The one closest to the four docking pins on the side of the nexus. It doesn't seem like it connects to anything so I'm not too worried, but is this a problem?

You're screwed
If I helped out, hit the thanks button.

It will make it so you can't use the dock but probably won't effect the actual tablet functions.

I appreciate the answer. Are you completely sure? Not that I'm ever going to use the dock but this still bothers me a little.

The dock is for charging and sound. The pin that broke could be one half of either. Either way its just for dock functions.

If things like a broken pogo pin connector are going to bother you, leave the case closed, leave well alone!

Confirm it is not a loose battery. Put a thin piece of cardboard between the battery and back cover and try it. This used to happen when I used the extended battery and cover.

I think it is a loose battery, but I'm using the back and battery that came w/ my epic. Any way to tighten it?

If it is worn it is worn. Try the small piece of thin cardboard like from a matchbook cover and put it between the battery and cover dead center and snap it closed. Should keep it there. You could try with tweezers to pull the contacts out a little but don't recommend messing with those.
Whatever you do don't use glue. You might be tempted but don't. You never know when you need to do a battery pull....

Mine does that occasionally, when I open or close the keyboard very quickly. Try closing it slower so it doesn't bump the stops so hard.

Loose batteries are seeming to be come more and more common in the Epics. I bet if you set your phone down a little too hard it'll shut off too, right?
Mine did this. Confirmed it was a loose battery. Placed some folded paper between the battery and the bottom of the phone (not the end with the battery contacts) in the battery well. Never again had the problem.

I had the same problem and easier touch also worked...very frustrating!
Too late. Already took it to sprint and they're giving me a free new one. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I have had this problem on my Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and my Epic. Every time it has turned out to be fixed easily by cleaning the battery connections with a pencil eraser. After time, the batteries gain a film of corrosion. This my or not be the problem that has plagued your phone but, it is worth considering for anyone else who runs into this symptom.

Free Epic and I have to give mine back and then eventually, they'll probably fix mine and then give that to people.

Try this. Open up your nexus 7. Lightly press on the messed up speaker. If it is the same issue I have you'll hear the speaker pop back in.

I think you're asking how to take apart the nexus 7? The easiest way to find out how would be to look for a YouTube video on opening the nexus 7. There are many.
How i did it... Slide your fingernail or an opening tool along the crease. The snaps holding the back in place should click apart. Slowly and carefully move your fingernail or tool around the entire device until the cover comes off. Be very careful not to break any of the clips on the lid or in the device.

Creaks on back (left side)

Hello,
my Nexus 4 creaks when I press left side on back cover:
Video:
http://youtu.be/LlZRw1i2TuA
No drops, used only in bumper (s-line)...
Has anyone the same problem?
Can I use guarantee in this case?
Nope I don't have this problem.

I had the same clicking problem but on the bottom and with the front glass.
I found a permanent fix for this common problem here on xda:
- Unloose the two screws on the bottom but half a turn.
- press firmly on the bezel to notch it back in
- while keeping a reasonable pressure, tighten the screws again.
Hope this fixes it even if you don't have the exact the same issue.

I have the same problem, but on the bottom right. It squeaks everytime I press on it. Will wait till my OCD takes over to open it up.

I'm pretty sure my tip above will fix your problem.
You just need a small Phillips screwdriver and unloose the screws a little.

No problem, just wanna help
But the truth is: you can unscrew about 10 full turns before the screw comes off, all you need here is one half of a turn and re-screw.
No tech knowledge required, as easy as installing a screen protector.

N7 Dead on Arrival

Yep. Ordered 7/10 got it today 7/12. Opened it. Plugged it in. Nothing. Did the steps that googled emailed me. Nothing. Screen just flickers when trying to turn it on. Awesome. Don't you love when you pay for something, it comes and doesn't work at all??? Guess it has to happen to somebody! So at least I won that... Will update on how long Google takes to send another one.

Many people have the same manufacturing issue... It just didn't usually kick in this early.
There's two things this could be... Assuming you haven't already sent it in.
If the screen is kind of like an antrace and noisy, then it has zero charge and needs desperately, a few hours electricity.
If it only flashes like you say. There is a common issue with nexus 7 issue where the cable hooking the battery to the device becomes detached.
The easy fix I would do in your position would be to slip it open and reconnect the cord, as it is in the front. The case is also very easy to get off with a flathead screwdriver, or from dropping it... Not the best design. I did alot of research when mine was bootlooped and very certain that is your problem. Hope this helps if you didn't send it in xD
Don't mess with it....send it in. Better to wait and start with a fully functional device, not one you had to fix to make work!!

Amen to that! My level of fixing tablets and phones is pretty high. Just got done replacing my Nexus 4 screen. Anyways, point I'm trying to make is... Open box and DOA? I don't think so. Already have the RMA process started. Hopefully this one will work. Should get it on Wednesday.
Crappy part is, this was a birthday gift that came in just in time. Too bad it doesn't work!

I guess I was lucky my only came with the loose screen. It has play in it when you tap the screen.

Back letters falling off

I'm just curious, has anyone ever gotten their Nexus letters at the back removed, as in the shiny black vinyl that covers them? The letters N, E and X were completely peeled off in my case in a matter of weeks when I was holding it, along with the adhesive.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Nope, but I've had a case on it since day 1...
Odd. Hasn't happened to me. (Happened to every BlackBerry Curve 8520 I had, though. Damn, that phone sucked.)
Wonder if it's affected by how you hold it. Definitely return it anyway.
Wait, I didn't even know that could happen, I though they were like part of the plastic.
You got a picture of it?
Do you have a wireless charger?
I have one and I have noticed that after charging it is kind of warm on the back and I have to wipe some kind of stain around some off the letters. Now that you mention your letters falling off it gets me
thinking that the glue could be melting away or something.
My N7 is only 7 weeks old and I'm using a Fatboy pillow for charging.

I had this same problem just a few days ago I noticed like a sticky residue seeping from the letters on the back and part of the letter lifting. I just removed all the sticker and cleaned away the sticky residue 'see attached pic' I actually prefer it without glued on sticky letters. Looks good I think.

Wireless charging here and my letters are falling off now also.

I use the wireless charging feature as well - no issues, and it spends all night - every night - on the charger.
I didn't know that there was plastic in the letters to make it shiny. When mine finally fall out on their own, I think I'll get some model paint and paint the letters in white. Or maybe bright red. Just to be different.
Really? They fall? lol, I though they were pretty much part of the case :b

Wow I didn't even know this was possible. Makes me not want to use wireless charging if it's going to destroy the design of my device.

Been using wireless charging from the day I got it and the letters are still firmly on there. Touchscreen though, now thats another issue.

Yup, it looks like this. I was thinking about removing the rest so it looks uniform again the hollow letters do look nice, though. I don't own a wireless charger so I don't think that's the issue.

No wireless charging here either it's just glued on stickers that are losing stick over time as they heat and cool.
I'ts just like black tape.
Sure it looked cool glossy but doesnt bother me, I just picked out my letters with my nail and cleaned it up.
I like the 'indented' look nexus on the back.
What assembly dates do you have on yours? Perhaps they just changed to a less strong glue or even applied less glue due to the first batches problem of stains/glue residue.
