Hi all,
I've been lurking on the site for a couple years and am finally getting the courage to post a question.
I have been using a version of the ManualNooter since I got my NC and it's been going great. I can't bring myself to get rid of the BN software for good. This weekend I decided to wipe it and update all the files finally, so I updated to BN 1.4.3 and MN5, got the market working eventually and made a back-up of the whole thing. I was reading about repartitioning to the older settings to get 5gb of storage for apps, etc and would like to do that because I had just started getting messages that I had no more room on my NC. So I used the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14102514. I restore my backup and it doesn't seem to work anymore, I can see my wallpaper, and the BN menu/home tray but no MN stuff, so I wiped it and tried again and got the same result. So I'm wondering is it even possible to repartition for the extra storage if I'm using ManualNooter? Is an SD card my only option unless I want to do a complete root? Or did I do something wrong somewhere?
Thanks in advance!

If you are having problem restoring your backup, I would just start over. I have a partition repair thread linked in my signature. Do the partition 145678 repair followed by the format 5678 zip. Those will give you the old partition layout with the 5GB media partition. Everything will be blank. Then go to my NC tips thread also linked in my signature and look at item A15. It puts vanilla 1.4.3 stock on the system. Then do mn5 again. Then reinstall your apps manually.

So i did everything you said and it seemed to work, when I go to settings > device info : it says B&N Content Storage Available .92GB and Other Storage Available 5.23GB, is that correct?
Now I just can't get the Android Market to update to Google Play, which it had done previously, and the fix from the ManualNooter5 instructions, below, did not work:
Market has limited visibility - This is a known tablet issue, not just a Nook Color one.
Start Nook Color Tools
Select the "All Settings" button
Unplug your Nook Color from computer. (If Plugged in.)
Choose "Manage Applications" from the list
Select the "All" tab
Scroll down to "Market" and select it
Tap "Force stop"
Tap "Clear cache"
Tap the back button if you have SoftKeys running, else swipe right to left on the status bar at the bottom of the screen (from the clock to the book icon)
Scroll up to "Google Services Framework" and select it
Tap "Clear data"
Tap "OK"
Tap "Force stop"
Press the n button to return to your launcher
Start Market
At the "An error has occurred" message, tap "OK"
Hold your power button to turn off your Nook Color from the menu
Turn your Nook Color back on and give it a moment to find your WiFi connection
Start Market again, and the problem is resolved
So I can't get any apps, how am I supposed to download them manually? Any other ideas? I'm about to give up and just go back to the regular MN and limit the apps I download at a time.
Thanks again!

I updated my nook color firmware to 1.41 and then installed the latest CyanogenMod. The nook color boots but I keep getting the message "The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly." I have searched the internet and forums without success. I can not access the apps market.
Any help would be appreciated.

First I'd Fix Permissions on CWM. No help? Then try this:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications >
Then make sure you look under the all tab. The downloaded tab is the default for me.
It is called Google Services Framework and you clear the data for this one and cache for market.
Start Nook Color Tools.
Select the “All Settings” button.
Unplug your NOOKcolor from computer. (If Plugged in.)
Choose “Manage Applications” from the list.
Select the “All” tab.
Scroll down to “Market” and select it.
Tap “Force stop”.
Tap “Clear cache”.
Tap the Back button if you have SoftKeys running, else swipe right to left on the status bar at the bottom of the screen (from the clock to the book icon).
Scroll up to “Google Services Framework” and select it.
Tap “Clear data”.
Tap “OK”.
Tap “Force stop”.
Press the n button to return to your launcher.
Start Market.
At the “An error has occurred” message, tap “OK”.
Hold your power button to turn off your NOOK Color from the menu.

Installed it where? To boot from a SD card? If you installed it internally you didn't need to upgrade to 1.4.1 as it wipes it anyway. How did you install CM7? What version of CWR are you using? What version of CM7?
Still Not working
Skeeterpro and patruns,
I tried all your suggestions and still no luck.
I installed the following:
CyanogenMod-7-11162011-Nightly-encore
Android version 2.3.7
Build GWK74
I used an SD card and installed it internally. It does not run from the SD card. I used an installer program call ClockworkMod v3.0.2.8 to do the installations.
Thanks,
Jim

That is an old version of CWR. It does not perfomr a complete wipe. Use this one and make sure you wipe/format cache, data, system and Davlik: http://www.multiupload.com/N5C1846GH3

i have the same problem ...how can i fix this ????
I had this problem when I was using an old a-data card after I put a bunch of pictures on it. I tried resinstalling, etc, and nothing helped, even deleting the image files. I eventually installed CM7 to internal/emmc and never had the problem again. If that's not an option, you may want to try a new Sandisk card (if you're currently using something else).
Thanks for the help...it fixed my problem of "android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly" on my LG Optimus 2X when opening Gallery.

I was getting this same error message on my nook color.
Turns out I had forgotten to do a full wipe before the CM9 install. Coming from stock.
If you're an idiot like me then retry it, wiping first (like patruns said), especially if you're coming from stock, since...duh...
thanks patruns!

I hate to ressurect an old thread, but I'm having the same issue with my nook. I've installed CM 7.2.0 on my nook after having this problem. I assumed that it must be an issue with the SD card since nothing I did fixed the problem. Now that the CM is on the tablet proper, it's still popping up. I did everything in the step-by-step given earlier, to no avail.
I'm using TWRP as my booter rather than CWM.

I just ran into the "android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly" loop myself after downgrading from a CM11 nightly to CM10.2.1 (Simpson's Tapped Out wouldn't work on CM11 ) . Opening Google Play Store consistently caused it and closed the play store app before I could interact with it.
I managed to fix it by formatting my uSD card back to FAT32 (along with the various formats etc for a fresh install that didn't work on their own).
I suspect the root cause was formatting my uSD card to exFAT as part of the upgrade to CM11.
OK, this only happens when you press the second system options button within the Nook Color Tools App which is installed along with ManualNooter. Solution, don't press that button.
"I have a Nook Color on which I was running Manual Nooter which was deleted when B&N unceremoniously updated me to version 1.4.1 of their Android OS.
Last night I updated to ManualNooter 5.02.19 on my device which is now running version 1.4.1 and on which I was registered with B&N. I also installed the Dalgrin OC Kernel at that time.
The update went swimmingly. The Zeam Launcher interface was easily set to my new home, I had access to all of my B&N content, i had access to the Android Marketplace and installed the Dolphin Browser along with a couple of other applications.
After about two hours of operation the Nook gave me a warning screen, "Unauthorized Authorization, System Rebooting". During the reboot sequence it decided to delete all the data thereby removing my installation of the ManualNooter as well as my registration with B&N. I am back to a more a less clean install with a bunch of random extra files.
Has anyone else experienced this problem from the Nook Color. A couple of searches hasn't yielded an answer and I am loathe to go through the installation process again if B&N will simply delete the installation and put it back into a stock install."
Thanks for any assistance.
Following GMPOWER's instructions (LINK), I used ClockWorkMod 3.2.0.1 and manualnooter-5.08.20.basic.block_updates.zip to successfully root my Nook Color. (It's an original, non-blue-dot model which I wiped clean, re-registered and updated to 1.4.3 before rooting.) After rooting, I had a problem with accessing the Market app, but I gained access by following the "Market has limited visibility" solution in GMPOWER's OP. The Market app updated itself to the Play Store, and everything's working great. So far, so good, and thanks to GMPOWER!
I then executed the same process on my son's Nook Color, which I also wiped clean, etc. (It's also a non-blue-dot.) The root process worked, and everything went the same, except that I can't get access to the Market. I've gone through the "Market has limited visibility" solution multiple times, but always get the "An error has occurred. Please try again later." error message. I've gone through 3 cycles of completely wiping the device, reloading to 1.4.3, and rerooting, but without success. Except for access to the Market, it's running fine - that is, I have access to all of his books and apps in the B&N garden, I can run other apps from the drawer, and I can install new apps from B&N's app store. Just can't get it to run the Market. Any suggestions?
Noob apologies if I haven't provided enough information to address the question.

Did you happen to update to the 1.4.3 firmware through CWM, or using the stock update process? Throughout the hundreds of times that I have flashed the stock firmware, most all of the market issues have happened while flashing the stock firmware from CWM. One of the best ways to get back to the stock firmware, is to follow the 8 failed boot process, then download the most current B&N firmware from B&N, rename the file to "update.zip," place in the root of the media partition, and turn the screen off.
Just for my two cents worth of experience...
If you've lost the 8 failed boots for whatever reason, you're better off flashing back to an older stock firmware and then doing the update from B&N to the latest...

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I haven't made any progress. I've been resetting to stock firmware using the 8 failed boot process, and I've been using the stock 1.4.3 update (not CWM) to bring it current before running MN5. I have also been erasing and deregistering the device from settings before resetting to stock. I've gone through the whole process at least 5 more times since your post, always with the same result. After successfully completing the MN5 installation, I enter the Market app and follow the prompt to link the device to my son's Google account (which reports success), and then when I continue to where I would accept TOS, it gives me the error box. Following the procedure you posted doesn't get me past the error.
By the way, I started out using the same SD card that I used to successfully root my own device. The last time I went through the process to root my son's, I reformatted the card and rewrote it (using Win32DiskImager with the card in my laptop's slot) with freshly downloaded copies of CWM 3.2.0.1 and manualnooter-5.08.20.basic.block_updates.zip. No difference.
Sorry to be a pain - any other ideas? Thanks again for any help you can offer.

It's no pain, I would also like to find out what is causing the problem just in case it come up again in the future. Every time that I have experienced the problem that you are describing, that method has worked to fix it. Download this modified version on MN, and give it a try, LINK. I updated the market version in it try to get past that step, and also included an app called "Market Device Info." Sorry, I hosted it on mediafire, not my googlecode account just so people wont be downloading it, and trying to use it.
Once you have signed into the market, if it fails, open the app "Market Device Info," and check to see that you have a registered androidid. If this version of MN fails again on you, I will attempt to reproduce the problem on my device tomorrow to try to find a fix for you.

That did the trick, thanks! I wiped and reset to stock again, manually updated to 1.4.3, then ran the modified MN5 you provided. After the root completed, I opened the Play Store app, linked to my son's Google account, and it then prompted me to accept TOS with no errors. I've installed a couple of apps, and the only thing I had to do was untick and retick "Allow Non-Market Apps" to convince one of the apps to install. Everything seems to be working great now, thanks again!!

Please pardon this stupid question but I have tried to find a clear answer b4 coming to this thread. I am attempting to root my NC 1.4.3 w/ the Mannoot 5.08.20 and CWM 3.2.01 per the instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494901
The two questions remain are:
1) You must do a complete wipe before installing this package.
What constitutes a complete wipe
2) YOU MUST DOWNLOAD ALL YOUR B&N CONTENT BEFORE YOU CONTINUE,
Is this archive, to a SD or just download books from Library marked New?
Sorry to be a pain but If I screw this up... I'll never hear the end of it from my 'loving' wife..
TIA

1. There's a good description of how to do a complete wipe at http://nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM.
2. When I rooted my NC and my son's, I first downloaded all books, magazines and BN apps that weren't marked as archived with BN. In other words, there wasn't any BN content in my library with a "download" link attached to it. That's my interpretation of GMPOWER's instructions, and you should take what I say with a grain of salt, but I haven't had any trouble with accessing content after rooting.

Use CWM on an SD to wipe cache. Play store uses cache to temporarily store downloaded apps. It may be full.
Edit: I did a little research and Play Store temporarily stores the downloaded file to /data/data/com.android.providers.download/cache as download.apk, download-1.apk, etc. And it installs it to /data/app. So if you somehow have problems with that download location it will say not enough room.

Hello i should have read the forum before apllying the root process but i pick in one site and only find the forum when the problems began.
I use the Touchnooter2-1-31 thanks for doing it but i use my 32G card so after 30 min no restart i took the sd out and try to power off and the screen became freeze in the same point even after pressing the N button and power 30 seg. power off then on without the card.
By the way i don't have a backup of my default only take out the content of SD card and nook, site not tell me to do it so no return to factory default.
Then i use other card 8G, N2T recovery 0.2 and gain control of NST again and apply with this card the Touchnooter2-1-31 again, since not all programs were in and i could install it .
After 12h i have Gmail and opera mobile but i can't use android market or access to stores of app so i am putting some apps that i can install by email or with .apk
And i copy again the content of .docThumbs and Digital Editions on Nook and on SD and also use the ADE to put the books again in to read but no chance on reeding thems with old BARNES & NOBLE menu
Now for read i have the ezPDF reader.but i don't like it.Aldiko give me error not even install so
I would like to now if i can use the old BARNES & NOBLE menu since i hit N key and home flicks the old BARNES & NOBLE menu and dissapear library put my sreen flashing with the image frozen and his negative image and only with power and N key 30seg i can turn it again but in this process the screen freeze on shop don't open and in nook settings- Social i can change notting flicks but nothing happens?
Is possible to get BARNES & NOBLE menu working again?
Thanks
My question on reading your post is - which version of the NST OS are you starting from?
Something is unhappy, but hard to say what. I would probably reset to stock again, take note of which Nook OS version you are running, and see if one of the other manual nooters works with it.
You make a disk much like the touchnoter disk, but instead of the process running completely automatically, you boot into clockwork recovery mode and choose which zip files to flash.
I threw one together called Tinynoot that gives you root + amazon but no google apps.
There looks like a better implementation called NookManager. Like mine tinynoot it is intended to support a wide range of devices, but it also doesn't install the Google market.
Google apps is a moving target, so you have to be sure the version of the rooting tool you use works with the specific OS installed on your Nook. In order to make Google apps work, core files called framework files are patched. Touchnooter, salsichanooter and I'm blanking on Eded's tool's name are all targeted to getting google stuff working, as well as the basics of getting you root access.
I am guessing that the problem you describe relates to a mismatch between the framework in the touchnooter and the rest of your OS.
Hello my NTS software version was 1.2.* i don't remember this last number but i try when i buy it 2 days ago to install from BN and nothing happens so was in last version, now nook OS how can i see it? Now the software version is undentified by the way yesterday i follow this movie but in the begining the page don't tell me Rooted forever tell me the instructions instead in both times, only in second attempt i get the screen like in movie at min 1:45 Nook Touch Rooting Tutorial - Super Easy Method user TheeBookReader on youtube i can add links
Google play today is working yesterday i install a cracked version but when i pick the apps tell me that the installation will be transfered sooner to my equipment but they don't happear
android market no search so i add searchmarket
When you tell me to reset to stock again is using N2T?
Thanks
Edited to add: i finally do a factory reset and now updating to latest version i will kept my nook as is since here we don't have so many hotspots free to surf on internet, thanks for all the help and info that i receive in this forum
Hi Everyone,
I tried to post this question to the NTGAppsAttack thread itself however the website didn't allow me to.
So, I've installed NookManager on my U.S. version Nook Simple Touch and all is good there.
After some fiddling I got NTGAppsAttack to run on my nook. However, when I went to sign in, I got an error message telling me that my nook could not connect to the server, and there was no cancel button. As I could not get back to the relaunch homescreen, I rebooted the device. I then tried to uninstall the market, but this was "unsuccessful."
Following this I tried to reinstall NTGAppsAttack, but on rebooting I was not brought to the page with the android dude and the hand. I still could not uninstall the market.
I re-rooted my device but the NTGAppsAttack apps were still present and I couldn't uninstall the market.
What can I do to get NTGAppsAttack working on my device?
Thanks in advance everyone, and sorry about my inexperience.

Restore from the backup you made prior to installing NTGAppsAttack and then reinstall.

Hi,
I have rooted successfully and installed ntgappsattack both via nook manager, however I can't see the android upon reboot or the new apps that should have been installed as part of ntgappsattack package. Would be grateful for any help with this issue.
Many Thanks,

This sounds like you never ran NTGAppsAttack from the NookManager menu. Are you sure you made it through step 9 OK? When you ran NTGAppsAttack from the NookManager menu did you get the messages "Install started" then "Install complete"? Go ahead and run it again to see the messages.

Yes I have installed it via this process over ten times to see install complete, When I then exit remove SD and reboot it starts up to re-launch where there is only 18 apps! No one else seems to have this problem! Is there anything I needed to allow or disable between rooting and installation. Where do the apps from ntg appear?
Many thanks,
OK, then your install of NTGAppsAttack to the NookManager sd card must be missing some files. What do you have in /custom/files/NTGAppsAttack/gapps/system/app on your NookManager sd card?

I see. The first image shows the files in that folder. However upon closer inspection upon extraction with alzip this is the output message I don't know whether this has any relevance?

All those corrupted archive file messages are the problem. You didn't get a clean download of the zip file and need to download it again,
this should work

Hi Everyone,
I tried to post this question to the NTGAppsAttack thread itself however the website didn't allow me to.
So, I've installed NookManager on my U.S. version Nook Simple Touch and all is good there.

However, when I went to sign in, I got an error message telling me that my nook could not connect to the server, and there was no cancel button. what you have to do is complete the registration steps faster. I know it sounds weird, but in the background it is updating and if you finish signing in before the update finishes your request will time out of the server. Reboot and uninstall the market (try again) then repeat signing in quicker. NO FILES ARE MISSING. I hope this was helpful
Install NGTAppsAttack frozen Nook
Hi all,
I have installed NGAAppsAttack through stages 1 to 9 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086582
and ejected the card and waited for the Nook to reboot and got the start up screen.
I was getting ready to quickly follow the next steps and sign in and then install some apps but the screen remains on start up several hours later.
I have tried holding down the power button but no change.
Any advice?
Thanks
Chris

Usually holding down the power button for 20-30 seconds to ensure the device is powered off then holding the power button down for 5 or 6 seconds to power it back on works. If not try booting back to NookManager, restoring your backup and starting over again.
