Hi all, I just installed Voluptuary's ROM on my Samsung Focus (SGH-I917 1.3). It's working like a charm and I am loving it. However, I need to add in a Japanese keyboard.
Where would I go about getting it, and how would I load it in?
Thanks very much for your time and help, and all the work you put into this technical stuff to make our lives better than our slowpoke carriers ever will.

Greetings all, I am sending this message out to find out if there are any decent ROMs out there for my phone! I have flashed once so far, find the ROM is way to bulky and wish to find a smaller ROM! Telus of course!
current version info:
ROM Version: 3.07.661.1
Radio Version: 3.41.00
Hardware Version: 0001
Protocol Version: DCAAXOM-4350H
PRI Version: 2.05.010
I am using the Omnia Sidebar for my home screen (flawlessly intergrated) And I have also overclocked my device to 624mhz (again, flawless) If someone can help me out, it would be much appreciated!
If anymore info is needed, let me know what you need!
P.S. Kudos to ALL the guys and girls here at XDA! You guys kick a$$
Any replies, including mine are going to be a matter of opinion.
I personaly like NFSFAN's custom ROMs. Then again, they're remarkably similiar to how I was setting up my device prior to flashing to his. I originaly had the stock Bell 1.09.666.10, 3.42.50 radio, M2d customized to my liking, opera customized, and several other programs. Having all these things cooked into a ROM runs much faster than building them up after the fact.
You mentioned the omnia sidebar, this is not possible with M2D. Personaly I like M2D better as I scroll it one handed with my thumb. Having a slide on the side of the screen would not be my personal preference.
There are other options:
Stock WM6.1, customized with various widgets (kinda like yours!!)
M2D (also known as touchflo)
Throttlelaunch
Wisebar advance
Point UI
SbP mobile shell
Mobility flow
Music Flo
and many others you'll find on this site. It comes down to what features you want, what you use your phone for, and what you think looks the coolest!
For my opinion, read up on upgrading your radio to Bell 3.42.50 then flash NFSFAN's custom ROM.
The omnia Sidebar is fully funtional, however, I did not mention anything about about M2D! Don't get me wrong, its a nice interface, but, it has some what of a lack-luster for me! The Omnia Sidebar is a lot more pleasing to the eye and completely customizable as to where you can place the widgets! As for upgrading to a bell ROM, unfortunatly, I and a few friends (with Telus) have tried this, and we bricked our phones! With Telus devices the ROM has to be carrier specific or no carrier at all, there is no gray area! I do thank you for the advice and more is always appreciated
1. What I meant by "no m2d with omnia sidebar" was most custom ROMs nowadays use M2d.
2. I also didn't mean upgrade to the Bell ROM, just the Bell Radio. You do this by not letting the customizations run. Then NFSFAN has a custom Telus ROM that you would let the customizations run on.
You will find generic ROMS (non-carrier specific) that offer "clean" versions of wm6.1. You then need to set your carrier cab manually. There is one such ROM found here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=30332i
With google you should be able to find more.
P.S. I do know some peopl at work on Telus ROMs with the Bell radio. GPS is faster locking etc. You shouldn't brick a phone with a bad flash.
If you can but it into bootloader mode (tricolour screen), (hold the camera and power button down, then press the soft reset button). It isn't bricked, just waiting for a ROM.
Best of luck on your search, hope you can pimp your phone to your liking.

Well, I finally found a ROM that suits my needs. Its small and clean, and yes, its a M2D ROM. I now have the chance to add in what ever apps I want and still use minimal resources of my device!
The rest of my knowledge is going to be put to good use here. I hope I can help to the best of my ability with the rest of the guys and girls here at XDA!

Good to hear you found a suitable ROM, while you might currently have switched to M2D, the great thing about our phones is the ability to switch back and forth. Can't do that with an iphone! Have fun with it, hope we can all help each other out, that's what a community is for!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Cheers mate
Hello, I just registered to the forum. I was going round the threads, I have read some tutorials, but I didn't really find an answer to my question.
I'm going to buy a touch HD in switzerland. Maybe I will buy the german version. I can speak german but I don't know if it will be really comfortable for me. That's why I was reading the tutorial on how to use the xxxxship.exe (changing your device to a new version).
BUT if I don't have problems with the language, and the language is fine I understand all and I don't need to change to english or italian (my motherlanguage)....are there reasons that I should change something to the phone?
Everybody here on the forum is using custom roms, is adding - deleting applications and so on. Is the 'normal' version so bad?
As a beginner, what do you recommend me to do with a factory-new touch HD? Update WM to 6.5 ? Try immediately a custom rom from XDA ?
Thanks and sorry if i wrote stupid questions, the forum is really big and difficult to understand for a beginner.
No reasons, If you use official ROMs without problems (too slow, some problem with some programs, you want new components but HTC doesn't etc) else you could stay with it.
I preferred use HardSPL and Cooked ROMs (see my signature) because TIM ROM is horrible and old... now my HD is better functional

Hi rogermorse, welcome to the world of windows mobile!
As a beginner, its not necessary to change your rom - the official one works fine. You want to get the hang of windows mobile first before attempting any flash. I do have to say that WM has a bit of a learning curve but once you get past that its really good all-rounder device that is very useful in many occasions. Just trying out all the apps (free and commercial) available out there will keep you busy for awhile. Also you will be able to see whether your device has any hardware faults after using it for a month (if faulty most conk out sooner than later). Remember also that changing to an unofficial rom will void your warranty... you want all faults ironed out before you change rom because sometimes you physically cannot reflash back to an official rom for service.
Cooked roms here mostly focus on tweaks, stability and speed and some graphically enhanced. As new devices come out, their OS and default application packages are updated - these are ported to our device so we can also enjoy these updates.
Its a whole new world once you get on the bandwagon!!!
Best advice would be get used to your own phone and stock rom first. Read the manual, read the wiki. Get used to all the functions.
If you are happy with phone, then excellent. If however you are not happy with certain software/functions. Search for fixes and read up on them. If in future you would like to change to a cooked rom, again, search and then read up on them.
Also there are not only faults in the Stock ROM, in the custom ROMs there are newer applications and builds of the operating system. Some even have (or most of them nowadays) Windows 6.5 and/or Touch Flo 3D 2.5, which is better looking and has more functions.
Hello,
i just received my new Omnia 2, and when i was looking for custom Roms I couldn't find any. so i just went and updated the phone to a WM 6.5.
I have a number of questions:
1. Is there anyone currently working on a new Rom for the Omnia 2?
2. this is more of a comment, but i think the touchwiz 2.0 is lacking in terms of unity and wanted to know if anyone is working on a custom version?
3. i really hate that the call/ text notification when someone is calling/texting you is just the plain old WM. i want it to at least look like when the screen is off and it has this cool slide answer function or something other that the WM for that matter. ( that was not a question now was it?.....)
plz respond, I'm open to any suggestions. or hints for my Omnia 2.
Also, i'm really new to the whole changing to custom Roms and such, so i would really appreciate it if someone puts on a post on how to actually ge the Hard SPL(?) Rooting, ...... the whole 9 yards on this.
Thank you,
an addition to my post.
I would really appreciate any substitute for the touchwiz and other options for the omnia 2.
thank you.
disable touchwiz and get spb mobile shell 3.5.3

Actually i did try that as i saw in a video on youtube. but i couldn't find the options for it.
and I also noticed that the settings interface for my Omnia 2 is completely different for the one in the video.
is there other versions of the touchwiz or does it change from region to region? I bought mine from the middle east.
i was really shocked by this when i found out that it was different form the video. could anyone elaborate on this?
thanks
Their are several phones using the name Omnia
Omnia 8000, Omnia i920, Omnia lte, Omnia HD, and a few more.
The only thing similar is the name and manufacture.
They also vary by country and phone system.
SO....
What I'm trying to say is before you start flashing Rom's and what make sure the rom fits.

its plausible. but will need great amount of Dev Support.
You need to write drivers which should be compatible with Dell Hardware.
That will be the biggest challenge...after its done the hardware can handle the OS flawlessly...
I know Cotulla would be a good person to ask this.
It's been a while since last post on this thread, but I will ask again. Is there a possibility of this happening. I am a long time windows mobile user, last phone was HTC Touch Pro/Titl 2 (I have both). 6.5 was great, I wanted more speed. Got DVP, great hardware, software absolutely sucks. Need to go back to WM 6.5. Wi-Fi Sharing, Email refreshing every 15 minutes, not using acceleration and light sensors to its fullest extent, not being able to save stuff on file system, not running WM 6.5 apps, list goes on and on.
Any ideas anyone ?

hi
i have done some inquiries to this matter some time back. and it seems it is possible but difficult. nobody is interested in wm anymore, except for few guys like you and me. most of the capable devs who could make this possible are not interested in wm anymore and too busy with android and wp7. as the previous reply suggests why dont you pm cotulla? he might be able to give better advice. or the next best thing you could do is trade your DVP to a hd2, which is the best phone around running wm. but minus the keyboard. and have you tried wp7 with the mango update? doesnt it support most of previously missing functions?
I can sell DVP and probably even make money on it as I currently reside outside of the US. WP7 has taken away a lot of features. Mango was a little improvement from 7.0, but still has a long way to go. The IMAP email refresh 15 minutes is horrible, I use phone as internet connection backup, WM6.5 apps don't work, I have some of my own apps I wrote, those don't work of course. WP7 looks great and works great for a regular Joe Shmoe, but for me as a business user it doesnt cut it. It's really not worth it for me to sink in so much time into this. PM'ing the guy who knows about this won't do any good, not like he is going to sink in weeks of his time into it, you know. I will go back to my Tilt2/TP2, Titlt2 for use in Latin America, TP2 on T-Mobile while in US, Titlt2 also gets use on At&T networks in US. Probably looks like for me to get some more speed need to invest in a pair of HD2's AT&T and T-Mobile radio frequencies. They will do 2 things I'm missing now: faster browsing + ability to zoom-in using Multi-Touch. If you find out of any new phones that would make me happy (HTC HD2 + keyboard LOL) pls let me know. DVP running WM6.5 would be a damn good phone though . Thanks for input !!
ok...gud luck with your work..will let u know if i come across any news..
For you guys who wanted to use Samsung keyboard, it's finally normal layout now like international one.
had to share the news cause I remember we tried many things to make it work lol
