You will need to do research and read the forum threads...
This thread has links to the older A500/A501 firmware loads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
Unfortunately, you cannot simply run an update firmware flash to go back, specially as non-rooted. The best option that has worked well for me is the AfterOTA utility, which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675939
Read up on AfterOTA, it's fantastic to flash older loads, bootloaders, etc.

Dude, at 1st I wanted to go back also, but after figuring out how easy it is to use custom rooms, I'm glad I stayed with custom rooms.

Hey, another Singapore xda-er here. OTA's are usually posted on this forum, you don't really need it. If you really want the stock rom, search it in the dev forums. If you can't find it, just unroot your tablet using Gingerbreak

Ewww.... you may be hard pressed to get the exact same ROM as you were issued, if you didn't write down the build numbers before rooting and installing a custom rom.
My guess, would a Com Gen 1, or a TMPL. Both seem to be for eastern Europe, and support a few asian multiple character languages. Com Gen 1 having the most I believe.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

[q] rooted HC to ICS - how?

OK, I rooted my A500 towards the end of last year since it didn't seem like Acer was going to keep up with the latest Android operating systems.
I checked in here recently and saw that ICS has been released for the A500. Joy.
So, I used CWM v5.0.0.0(thor2002ro rev1.3.4) to try and flash the rooted Acer OTA ICS. I figured I'd try the original ICS before I start flashing other people's ICS roms.
All went well until the reboot. It froze on the ACER screen and would go no farther. I figured that perhaps the cache/data/dalvik didn't clear the first time so I repeated those steps. format data user reset, clear caches, clear bat stats. Reflashed rom.
Reboot.
Stuck at ACER screen again.
I searched the forums and found that I need a different bootloader? There are a bunch of threads, but I can't seem to make sense of them.
Can someone please give me a step-by-step plan to get this thing from where I'm at to ICS?
I did get my tab working again by repeating whole process but installed HC 3.2.1 Flexstriker r9.6. It booted up into the rom just fine.
I guess this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425 - is close to what I need but it's tough to follow with all the different options and colors/fonts...
Can anyone help me down the right path?
Thanks in advance.
You can flash one of Civato's old Flexreaper roms on a HC bootloader. Since it is an ICS rom you can just update the boatloader as mentioned in the thread you linked.
I would suggest flashing Flexreaper 9 or something, his newer roms require you already have the ICS BL on. After you update the BL then just upgrade to one of his newer roms. They work very well. I've personally had no problems at all with his roms.
but....
If you want the stock Acer ICS, you have to downgrade all the way back to the old 3.x unstable rom and let it update from there. It will take a few updates, but it should get you to ICS.
Sorry, but this is a development forum not questions and answer, xda is strict about keeping things organize, please read the rules and guidelines.

Any guide on this? I need it for warranty issues (charging stops after few minutes with power light flashing white / amber) Search is not working and there is no "going back to stock" thread in the dev section sticky roll-up thread.
The thought of going back down and then upgrading back up didn't appeal to me.. So, I bit the bullet and tried to make sense of the thread I mentioned... I managed to get through it and I now have the sandwich on my tablet.
What a pain in the.......
OK... ready for the jelly bean leaks now.

I did read the rules/guidelines..
It's a question about development (or at least how to use some developed tools), so I put it here..
If it doesn't belong here, then perhaps a mod would be so kind as to move it..
At this point, the thread really could be deleted as the original query is handled.
However, tkolev has added a question.

How do I proceed from here?

A while back when ICS was first leaked, I flashed it.
My A500 is not rooted or unlocked or anything. It was completely stock HC.
Whatever it was that I flashed, I was able to flash using the built-in recovery tool.
Under Settings, it says this:
Image version: Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1
Build number: Acer_AV01_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
Now all the threads I'm reading about flashing newer roms says I have to be on GEN1 first. Searching for PA_CUS1 doesn't give me any results.
What do I do, where do I go, what can I flash from where I am now?
And pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thought about that, but this question is specifically about what this forum is designed for. No? Regardless, a mod can move this thread if they feel necessary. But thanks for taking the time to post. I think.
:highfive:
i think your on the first build of ics, have a look for the root method and see if you can root the rom your running, if successive i would then recommend you try using the flexreaper extreem v5.1 the latest and greatest from civato ,
if you reply ill try to help more in-depth but i just got back from a engagement party and its 3:30 am sooooooo...u know
note: im so luving the new :highfive: highfive emoticon :highfive::highfive::highfive:

official but rooted ICS

i am thinking of selling on my a500 but due to some small bugs in the custom Rom i am using i thought it good to put it back to stock.
it came with honeycomb but i believe ICS has been released officially so i wondered if it was easy to go back to stock ICS. i think it is on the honeycomb bootloader but don't know how to check.
any help welcomed.

A little more info is needed.
1. a500 or a501?
2. Current bootloader (stock bootloader, HC Bootloader, or Skirlax_CZ unlocked bootloader)
3. current rom
You can check your bootloader version, by downloading the Acer Recovery Installer from the market. Just start the app. It should tell you bootloader version.
This will help you to go to the right direction.
You can try this, if you have an a500. It should put you in stock ICS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699277
Also, will tell you, this post belongs in the Q&A forum. Not in development forum. So please PM one of the assigned forum Mods, and request this thread be moved to Q&A forum.
So you shark wanna-be's, leave this one alone.

really appreciate the help mate, it is a500 and i just checked the boot loader, it is 3.01
I have the same question, and I use A500 too, but I don't know what is the loader I use. How do I know that?
For the rom, I use flexreaper but it's slow and I'd like to go back to stock.
Thank you.
EDIT : the rom files in this thread are not available http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878

I have managed to root it using afterota. Many thanks.
Now I'm stuck, should I try to flash a new rom or send it back to acer.? If flashing myself a good guide would be needed.

well i wouldnt want to let acer near it after that! Been a few reports of this happening after 'repair'...
Do you have a custom recovery installed...cwm, twrp etc??
civato has a "Official Acer Stock Roms ICS Rooted" thread check it out. D/L as applicable version and put it on yr ext sd card.
Install via cwm!!!
U do have a custom recovery installed??
If not then you will need to flash the unlocked bootloader
There is a 'tool' to help the process called 'afterOTA'
Personally I prefer the manual method via nvFlash but you'll be fine with afterOTA.
You will need the following:
A PC
A good quality micro usb cable.
The Acer Drivers and adb and fastboot from the android sdk.
Drivers installed correctly
a fully charged or at least 70% battery
the flash itself takes less than 30 seconds
getting set up to do the flash successfully will take al least an hour usually more!!!! some of us have been stuck for days after 'softbricking'- i lie not!!!!!
So take your time read thru the Guides and follow the steps to the letter - good luck
Ok' I'm going in.
.....
No luck I'm affraid, I've tried everything including all the flash tools. No joy.
It won't work with nvFlash or blackthund3r
Will not boot into recovery. I get the recovery verified failed message.
So now I'm really stuck' looking like acer here I come unless anyone else has any ideas?
trying he alternate root method (blackthund3r)
I'm stuck at stage 2 uploading image. does anyone know how long this should take.
sorry to ask here but i cant post in blackthund3rs topic im a noob
