Hi,
Got a Nexus 7 tablet for Christmas today. I remember reading back in October or November that Google updated the Nexus 7. I'm not sure what the changes were. How can I tell if I got one of the newer ones, or one of the older ones?
Thanks.

Ok. What does that show me that will tell me if I have the newest version of the nexus 7?
Why does it matter? You going to tell the person who got it for you here take it back as its last years crap? I am sure nothing has changed except there's no 8 gig version.

To know which batch your nexus 7 comes from, you need to look on the box it came in. That is where the serial and model numbers are. For example, mine is a C9O.

Yes, there are changes. Asus has done some hardware revisions from batch to batch. No need to frag the guy. Why he wants this info is really none of our business. Its easy enough just to ignore, or give the answer and move on. Our rude answers make xda look bad. Thats just not right, nor the reflection we should be showing.

Didn't frag the guy. He should be happy someone was willing to buy him one. Not question the gift. Have him call Asus and ask what his build date is.

You just need to stop. Different revisions can have different issues. Maybe the guy wants to be proactive in knowing what to watch for. Maybe he wants to REGISTER it, which he would need the CXO number for. Maybe he wants to know if it is a model known for missing screen screws, or the one known for loose screen screws. Maybe a model that it helps to use screw washers with. There alot of things to be learmed from your batch number. If you would have taken the time to read and understand those particulars in varying batches, this could have been avoided. Therefore, your statement that nothing has changed except that there is no more 8gb, is wrong, and as a result, not helpful in the least.

Like I said his best bet is to call Asus to get the info he is looking for. Still he is to stupid to realize this or to lazy. No he can try to hide it all he wants but he just wants to know if he has the latest build of a nexus and didn't get stuck with old back stock they found in a corner. No other reason to ask such a stupid question.

This is the q&a section. Q&A is short for questions and answers, hence, he asked a question. That is the point to this whole sub forum. The second part is the answers. I understand you confusing the "a" for accusations, but it is answers. I think accusations go in the off topic area. Good luck in there.
The fact remains, your first post contained both an accusation, and incorrect and uninformed information. Speaking of jokes...........

Your incorrect info was saying nothing had changed, other than that the 8gb was no longer available. Fact is, things HAVE changed from batch to batch. Informed owners keep up with those things. I would recommend you google nexus 7 hardware revisions, so that next time you might be better equipped to understand the potential reasoning for the question, and not assume greed is at work. Anyone very familiar with the n7 would look at your respones of calling it a stupid question would immediately identify you as uninformed.

Honestly Dark Jedi, if you have no help to offer to the OP, kindly stop posting and keep your common sense. He has the right to ask. How is it any concern of ours why he wants to know ? If I offer you a cookie which smells funny, and should you ask me what the cookie is made of, should I answer your question or go, "Why do you want to know ? What ? If it's not the best ingredients, you want to throw it away ? In that case I'm not telling. Enjoy it". Honestly, don't understand what you have to gain from doing this to the OP.
@OP : Easiest way I could tell the difference between the old and new Nexus 7 was that the new one had 3G capabilites. So just take a look at your statusbar. If you're talking about the wifi only version, I guess the only difference I could think of is the new 32GB of memory storage.

If i get any money from this, I'll put it to good use. XDA could use some funding for T-Shirts and other promotial items to give away at the Big Android BBQ and I'm sure there are other good causes. I'm speaking at the Big Android BBQ so that's the first thing that comes to mind. Regardless, you can expect it go go to a good cause.

Hi guys,
Could anyone please collect the logs that are being generated by the ICS leak, zip the folders they are in and share them?
I'd do it myself though i don't have the leak installed.
Thanks in advance.

Hm, this is fishy. You only just appeared here (2 posts in total) and already you're asking people to send you their logs? And your request for the AT&T bloat is just weird.
Dunno, fishy.
If you really want some logs, I suggest you install the leak and collect them yourself.
Hi there,
Is there a welcome thread i need to add my first post to?
Nothing fishy going on here. I read about the leak and how it had logs enabled, making the phone crawl. I instantly thought about analyzing these verbose logs to try and pick up where the original dev(s) left off. Logs will help further development of the release.
As for the AT&T files, i want to see if there's anything in them that would explain why the leak was pulled from this site.
Thanks for reading.

Dunno. Still seems easier to just install the leak and collect the logs yourself. After you're done, you can restore your nandroid backup and it'll be as if nothing ever happened.
Anyway, I'm not running the leak myself so I can't really help you either way. Maybe someone else will be of more help.
There is an introduce yourself thread (or something like that) in the general section of this forum.

After reading all these threads about screens cracking by themselves among other issues I am a bit paranoid.
Anyway any advice or tips as this is my first Android device
Thanks :good:
Don't worry about it until it happens to you... I've got two of these things and they have none of these problems... just remember... happy customers don't go to forums and start a thread about " why is my tablet so perfect?"... so a lot of what you see here are people looking for a solution to a problem... and even if you see a thousand posts on the same "screen lifting" thread... it only represents a small percentage of actual production... MOST users get a nexus, love a nexus, get addicted to a nexus, complain about lack of sleep
You should be all good... the odds are in your favor

Mine tried to kill me in my sleep one night, I did a factory reset and it hasn't done it since. But really I have two with no issues. If you read all these threads about complaints I think you start looking for issues. I have a $2500 8000 series Samsung led TV and the screen isn't perfect either.

Since you are new to Android, I recommend leaving it stock and see how you like it. You might decide stock is the way you like it! If not, at least you will have an idea what you want different from stock.

Zero issues with mine so far also. And you want want to stay stock for very long. There are a number of great ROMs out there and its fun checking them out. Nexus 7 toolkit works great for rooting as does wugs.

You might want to use the toolkit to unlock the bootloader. If you wait until later it will wipe all your data. You can always wait to root and ROM later.
I agree with Krista that you might not want to get too carried away to begin with. Check out the bean for all its glory before you roam elsewhere, so you'll know what you are missing.
Forums always collect all the bad feedback. You have to consider how many are sold, good vs bad. Mine is a C8O and has been perfect out of the box. None of the horror stories that I've read and I would take certain issues with a grain of salt.
When you get it, just play around with it. Don't be afraid to long press or swipe. Often times new menu options open when you long press something.

- Overclocking, good/ bad for this device in particular?
Depends on what you plan on doing with it. I underclock personally.
- Any stuff I should know?
It's a nice tablet?

Didn't step on my toes. I just find it silly that people get mad when they have to put forth an effort to learn. And you know, that whole forum rules thing about searching before posting.

Yep I know - Sorry.
Hi, I just tried out Touch Control and its amazing. I want to know how does sweep to wake work.
I read the developer saying the digitizer turns off when you lock the screen, so basically how does the phone monitor my touch? Also, will using this for a long term have any effects on my touchscreen? I hope not, because I'm hooked to this.

Bump, I can't believe no one is even interested in how it works. I really want to know?

I dont know, Im using touchcontrol with doubletap2wake and works fine, better than s2w, battery life seems the same and it does work even after hours with the screen off
I've been using it since january-february without any effects/issue on my touchscreen, my phone is almost 1 year old
Wow that's amazing to hear. Which kernel are you using?

just ask in the touch control thread..there you will get more answers to your question
Will do. Thanks.

Actually I asked here since this question is more related to swipe to wake and not the app which I believe is just an interface to toggle kernel specific settings.

Is not that no one is interested is that when people want to find out things they generally search them. If you do some searching you will probably find all the answers you need. Also ill effects can only be determined on your end by simply testing out the app.

I've searched enough for this and I couldn't find one thread, one website answering my question. Perhaps you could research too on your behalf, and see if it's at least there after searching, before blabbering like the rest of the idiots here? I don't mind the 150 people who didn't answer, its because they didn't know the answer. But you had to mimic others and say the same things all over again. SEARCH! SEARCH! Yes Sir, I already have, so shut up.
Also, I'm not interested in breaking my touchscreen just "to see the I'll effects". What the **** is wrong in asking a question?

hahahahaha your cute... nothing wrong with asking a question but the same question over and over is like a nagging woman... but its ok my bad do you hope you find your answer or maybe there is no answer to give you since the developer may not want to give out his secrets. Maybe simple testing of your own rom on your own phone will tell you about battery life but oh well... I am just a blabbering fool... keep bumping your own thread and good luck my friend :good:
No hate towards you

Well
The ones you showed me was not the exact explanation. It was still vague. The developer answered what I wanted after I asked it. Thanks anyways
