[Q] Nexus 4 won't charge at all. Bricked? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I got a serious problem. I imported a Nexus 4 from France to Belgium because it isn't availible in my country, I have it for three weeks now and I was very satisfied.
My friend received a S3 for Christmas so I decided to install Antutu; to compare the two phones.
Anyway, the Nexus just randomly crashed. It wouldn't turn on.
I tried to hard reset it, it didn't work.
I plugged it in to charge, for about an hour; it was blinking red, but still nothing.
Then I connected it in on my PC, the battery icon apperead, I clicked the powr button the Google logo appared again but it turned off.
Now it isn't recognized at all, there is no red blinking led and not recognized on PC..
Any help or I have to find a way to RMA it?
thanks a lot

I have tried it but it isn't charging, I'll wait for an hour again.
I did lot of searching..

I had a similar problem while running Antutu yesterday
My phone was charged up to about 98% .. At this time I decided to run the benchmark when my phone suddenly turned off 1/2 way through..
I then decided to hold the power button for 10 secs to no avail..
I connected the charger to see if the screen would light up and lo and behold the phone started charging but I discovered my battery had drained to 0% all the way from 98%..
I wasnt sure what caused this so i let it charge for 2 mins then i turned on the phone....It was still at 3%....i left the phone connected to the charger for 15 mins but it never chrged past 3% so i disconnected the charger and restarted the phone..
By the time the phone was booted up, the battery was back to its original 98% and i havent experienced the problem since then even though i have run the antutu benchmark multiple times after the restart...
I find it odd though that we both experienced the problem while running antutu....my best guess is that there is a particular test that interferes with our phones power management

RMA was my only solution...
thanks anyway

Phone keeps restarting

I dunno what went wrong, my phone was running empty so i connected it to my pc and it was charging, when i woke up it was empty and not charging anymore.
I finely got it back to charge and now every 10 minutes the phone boots, u see the boot screen with 2% battery warning and then it goes right to ' shutting down ' and turns of again and that's all it does now, i can't charge it past 2% because then it boots and shuts down right away.
Anyone encountered anything like this and has a solution?
your phone is on which firmware version?
It's out of the box, in the netherlands, donno what firmware that is and i can't check it because realy all it does is shutting down....
Got the phone like 1 or 2 weeks ago and didnt update it or rooted it to avoid stuff like this xD
Have you tried charging from the plug rather than from the computers usb?
yeah i did but for the past 2 days it didnt charge at all only when i charge it it keeps restarting, when i don't charge it it just blinks 3 times red and does nothing.
While it's recharching the on/off button doenst respond either, it does it all by itselff
These are the times I am glad I own an external battery charger and 2 spare batteries.
I think you should invest in a set OP.
I have a spare charget and i HAD a spare battery if i only knew where it was...
Today i'm going to the vodafone shop and demand a new one because this is costing me money because no one can reach me ffs

[Q] Can't get my Focus to fully turn on

Hey guys, been using my Focus for about 2 years with no problems, last week it randomly shut off. I plugged it in to let it charge, I got the Samsung logo for about 4 seconds and then a black screen. Every now and then it would turn on and show a low battery screen for a few seconds, then shut off again.
Plugging it in and charging it did nothing, so I ordered a new battery
Swapped out batteries and nothing, same problem. Sometimes when I plug it in, I don't even get the Samsung logo. It's all very hit and miss. Not sure what to do here, seems like the phone is a goner but I'd figure I'd see if anyone here can help.
Cheers.

Dead nexus 4, is there anything I can do?

So I woke up this morning and went to charge my nexus 4, which had around a week of life, only to be greeted with a flashing red light on its LED. It was working perfectly fine up until now, but now it doesn't turn on, it doesn't do anything if I try a hard reset (power + volume down) and charging it with via USB or AC only shows the red flashing LED, with no charging icon at all.
I have absolutely no idea why did it decide to spontaneously die, it didn't even leave the house yet because I was too paranoid I would drop it Is there anything I can do? Any ideas? It looks like getting a replacement is my only option but I wanted to ask you guys if by any chance there's anything else I could try.
have you rooted it or flash anything into it? Overclocking it or something? what have you done to it in the period of a "week"?
Nevermind, I managed to boot into recovery mode after pressing vol.down+power for about 40 secs while plugged to AC. It looks like the battery depleted completely and that was causing the red led — why did the battery go down to 0 while the phone was off is completely beyond me though. (FWIW I did not root the device, didn't flash anything, and didn't overclock it)
I had the same thing happen to be just now. Yesterday my battery died at 2% so I shut it off. I didn't charge it that night. Today I went to plug it in and I got a red flashing led. However after about 3-5 minutes of the charger the regular white charging battery symbol came up on the screen. I think the battery was just really dead.
i got my n4 today, had an gnex before
so i unlocked my phone, rooted and installed cwm
i flashed xylon rom and trinity kernel any 10, and everything was fine, like it was on my gnexus
after a couple of hours i pressed the power button to unlock the screen but nothing happend.
phone seems to be dead, pressing power button for 10 seconds do nothing
when i plug it into charger, the led is blinking red all the time, but phone wont turn on
do you think the device is broken?
i am really ****ed up, now wtf is the quality of that?
used it for 3 hours and its broken?
any idea is welcome..(
Nexus 4 DEAD... possibly not charging.
I have this exact same issue... but trying the volume down+power key or trying the power key by itself does not do a thing. The phone will only turn on for a couple of seconds and then die. I have been trying to charge it for a couple of days now with no luch.
I am overseas and just got my phone, which was thoroughly tested by my brother in the US, but it has been off the charger for a couple of weeks until it got to my hands... Is there any reset button or anything else that I can do if I open it???
Please, sending it back will be a major hassle, thank you.
As long as you are properly charging from a source that can provide at least 1.2A, you should be able to charge the phone back up.
Make sure you're not using an Apple charger, charging from a computer, or charging with a wall adapter that is rated below 1.2A.

Perhaps a kernel related problem? Phone is still very new, devs might have to sort out some shady stuff going on. There will and can always be a certain danger when flashing custom kernels, especially with a device that new.
This just happened to me right when I was demo'ing the 8GB to a buyer since I'm selling it back as I was able to order a 16GB on the last re-offering from Google, (so I don't need two Nexus phones). Hands were sweating when it wouldn't power on, so I grabbed my charger, plugged it in, and then it started flashing a red light. Eventually it turned on after about 5 mins, finally. Battery graph showed 90% charge before it turned off, then 0%, then started back now at 10% charge. This was after powering it off and leaving it in the box since only Tuesday.
Really strange issue... I actually remember something similar happening to my Mom's HP Touchpad a few months back as well. Had to plug it in for about 40 mins after she apparently turned it off and let it sit for a couple weeks during which time it discharged completely. Guess this is the bad part about non-removable batteries lol. Though my iPod touch 2G does sit here with next to no charge and it always powers on without fail.
Happened to me just a few minutes ago, luckily got it turning on again. Weird.
Im using franco kernel and now im scared thanks to this thread...
Which version you have? 8Gb or 16Gb? 14 nov or 14 dec?

That sucks... Several people have reported that their phones started to work again just by doing nothing. I hope you somehow manage to bring it to life.

Same issue here.
I didn't fina a solution. I've kept the phone connected to the charger for a wole night but it's not booting anymore. I'b only able to enter in fastboot mode pressing vol down + power and connecting it to PC.
L.
This happened to me about 3 days ago while running Antutu with franco kernel r19
My phone completely depleted its battery all the way from 98%. I was able to recover it by connecting my charger for 3 mins and powering on the device with the charger connected. I let it charge for about 10 mins(It refused to charge above 3%).
So i disconnected the charger and restarted the phone. Lo and behold, my battery was back to 98%..
I have been reading lots of threads and i don't seem to be the only one that experienced this issue while running Antutu. Although i have run Antutu multiple times after restart and the problem has not replicated itself..
At first i thought Franco kernel was the culprit but this also happened to people who were completely stock..Leads me to believe that this could be a hardware issue...Lg and Google better figure out what is going on because this could lead to bad publicity and furthermore push people who are currently on the fence regarding a purchase of this device further away.
I have the same issue since this Monday. I still cannot power it on or access fastboot mode.
It happened after I updated to Franco R20 from R19. I still run stock and never OC'ed.
How can I unroot and lock the phone without being able to access fastboot or bootloader?

[Q] When turning off, a fully charged battery has 0%

Finally receieved my Nexus 4 after almost 2 months waiting, but not really enjoying it right now.
Received it yesterday, unpacked it and I couldn't turn on the phone. So I've connected the cable into the charger and a light showed up.. After 30 min I saw a battery icon and after 1 hour I could turn up the phone.
When turned on, it showed 3% battery, so I let it charge for about 5 hours. While charging I've noticed something strange.. it was charging very slow. After 4h of charging it was showing just 16% battery and 1h later it was suddenly at 70%. After it got till 99% I unplugged the charger and tried to use the phone.
Everything worked till I wanted to restart it. The phone doesn't want to start up! Pressing the powerbutton for 20-30 seconds.. nothing happens. Tried the volume button combination.. nothing. Plugged it into my PC and after 10 min the battery icon showed up?! The battery was at 0%! The battery went from 99% to 0% just by turning it off!
I've let the phone charge again, this time the whole night (7 hours).. It was fully charged at 100%. I disconnected the charger and turned off the phone.. and again: a black screen.
I've Googled and searched everywhere but couldn't find 1 thing.. what could be the problem of this? How can my phone go from 100% to 0% by turning it off?
I have no idea what is going on but you need to contact google asap, they'll send a replacement and hopefully the new one isn't a dud.
If you want to try playing with it, plug the phone into a different charger with a different cable, let it charge overnight/12hrs and give it another shot it could be a bad cable/charger (to be honest I think this is a long shot.)
Really sounds like a hardware problem.
Your only option is RMA.

Nexus 7 won't charge/power on/can't access fastboot or bootloader

Hi guys,
My Nexus 7 (2012) turned off(not properly) when the battery level was low and won't power on. I tried a battery from a working tablet and tested my battery in another tablet. It seems like the issue is somewhere else.
These are the things I tried:
- leave it for a couple of hours charging (no battery sign at all)
- hold the power button with/without the volume levels while it being both connected and disconnected.
- tested my battery in another tabled and put a fully charged battery from another tablet
- made sure that the battery is connected
There was one more thing I tried - to press the Power button with no battery inside but the tablet being connected to a laptop via the USB cable. One could hear something like a boot noise coming from the tablet (doesn't happen when the battery is inside)
In December, 2015 I installed a Custom ROM with android 5.1.1 which I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/android-6-aosp-grouper-t3268172/ (the thread was renamed and is now about the Android 6 update) The tablet worked fine for these 3 months but one day when I was checking my email it went off and won't respond to any actions.
Could you please help me to fix it? I'm just not ready to give up on this tablet. Thanks!
Both you and i, same model, essentially, the same circumstances. I also tried every method you mentioned as well. Even down to the flashing of a rom. Same results. I even tried "jump starting" the battery. Not wanting to give up on it. It sits in my closet like that boy in A.I at the bottom of the ocean, waiting... I know that is not the reply or help you were looking for. Just so you know, you are not alone..

Well, that's a good start, at least I am not the only one!
Have you tried to connect your device via USB? My laptop can see a connected device but it can't recognize it and I hear some sounds coming from the tablet when I try to hold the `power` button. This made me think that it can be a display/screen related, so the device works but we can't see it due to the broken screen/display. Don't know how to check that though.
Same here, stock Nexus 7, won't turn on, just switched off one day and won't come back on, have tried everything as suggested above, can't get it to flicker, doesn't even register the power connection with a green light or anything

Try replacing the screen, just to check. If that doesn't fix it, at least you have a brand new screen!
I'm currently having the same issue, haven't used it in 6 months and when I tried to turn it on, nothing happens

I fix mine,
let it sit on the charger for a hour, then hold down the button for 20 sec
same issue here as well ive had it for about a year and im not able to access anything via my pc google help forums had no answer either, looks like we may be screwed..........
Hi, I just had same issue with my tablet only thing is that I was using it with ~20% of battery, nothing special - browsing the web using chrome, then the screen lit gray and shut off. After that no response either from charger, holding power button for 60+ seconds didn't work either, tried re-connecting the battery, still with no signs.
And then, I tried to plug in the charger and then pressing VolumeDown+Power immediately after connecting the charger. Suddenly got some response, that battery charging icon appeared, and it shows my battery charging, but from 0%. Still waiting to charge a bit until I can try to boot it.
I'll update this post with any news.
EDIT: When I connected my tablet to the charger it had that hissing sound, but after few minutes it stopped.
After 15 minutes of charging I managed to boot my Nexus7 with 7% of charge in it a that moment, It seems to work for now.
Summarry of what I did to solve my problem:
1. Opened the back of the N7 (I used a guitar pick for this) and re-connect the battery.
2. Then plugged in the charger and at the same time pressed VolumeDown+Power, battery icon lit up but went out, repeated step 1, and then step 2 again gave me animated battery charging animation which showed up for like 10 seconds
3. Waited for 10-15 minutes and tried to boot normally. And it works now

Honestly, I do not think it is the battery, I can see the Charge signal, and the Battery is showing 1,784 VDC tested unplugged and disconnected, my smart young co-worker seems to think POST is failing, I still never see a "Charging" indication.
Does anyone know , Is there a fail safe, say the battery is disconnected, and usb charger is plugged in, will i just see all 5VDC at the sub port, ?
I never see a screen flicker, DEAD battery sign, nothing.
co-worker, tried some things that made sense when he explained what he did, I would have to agree with him.
Now it is rooted, 4.x something I forget, Never went to 5.x did once early and did not like it, Back stock, ran 2 days no issues, Rooted again, 4.x still do not remember, worked great 3-4 months, Sons ran it to DEaD and that was it, put it up for 90 days or so, wife got new tablet, kids have Fire each, and here i am tabletless, CRAP, did not want to throw to much $$$$ at this thing, nor did I want to buy a new one.
