take pictures with headphone buttons? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

any way to take pictures with the headphone buttons? is that any camera app that has this built in?
also, for the default camera app, is there any way to keep the flash on constantly WITHOUT having to be in record mode?

Best way without rooting would be to get a 3rd party camera app like camera360... and as for the flashlight probably need a 3rd party app for that too

Camera FX

The other day I was playing around with the camera or something and found a way to add captions or little props to pics and I haven't been able to find it again. Does anyone know how to do this? And just to be clear, it wasn't a third party app or anything like that. It was a native app. Thanks!

It sounds to me like you are speaking of the audio postcard app?

WhatsApp audio recording

When I record audio in WhatsApp, the sound is very compressed and noisy.
Recording using the phone's default Voice Recording app records fine and sounds great. This only happens inside WhatsApp. When my friend records something on his iphone to send over WhatsApp, it sounds great... crystal clear.
I can record using the Voice Recorder app, and then share it via WhatsApp, but the person receiving it cannot play it.
Could someone else download WhatsApp and try recording an attachment?
The compression/distortion is much more noticeable when recording something other than a voice, like a guitar.
edit: I emailed their support and they said they have no such issue
Well your still a step ahead of me, I can't get Whatsapp to record what so ever, even when I record a video with it it comes out with no audio at all. As far as I know this only happens in Whatsapp, all my other apps can use the mic.
So yes there is an issue with it.

Are you using a custom ROM?
Maybe that affects it for some reason. Like I said their support tested it with a GS2 when I emailed them and they said it recorded and sent fine in normal quality.
I'm using Congnition 1.15
Can someone else please try?

Mines all stock, not even rooted. So I couldn't have crippled it.
Honestly I don't have any use for it so I didn't really try and find what's wrong.
Like you I was testing Whatsapp with an iPhone and the audio I received from it was crystal clear but what ever I send comes out blank with nothing to hear. It's like it can't use the mic.

I feel like their support might not even be able to notice the difference in compression lol.
It makes no sense that it would compress it on my phone but not on theirs

Lol well maybe to them it sounds normal when it's compressed.

Yeah, I even told them to record the same thing in WhatsApp and in Voice Recorder and they claimed it sounded the same
That's why I'm asking you fine gents to test for me
Well I just reinstalled whatsapp and surprisingly enough the audio works now and I can confirm that whatsapp seems to compress the file cuz the quality isn't as good as the stock voice recorder, but it's not that bad imo.

if you're just recording your voice its not that bad. But anything else sounds awful
I tried recording my guitar and it sounded abysmal

Yea probably. Well I guess the best thing to do is just use some other service in the mean time. Doesn't look like they'll fix it anytime soon.
Cheers bud.

I realized that it sounds just as compressed if I use a 3rd party voice recording app
I wonder why the stock recorder app has perfect quality audio while 3rd party apps sound like crap
is it like an API/driver thing?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Hmm it might be an Api or driver but I think they're all compressing it to decrease file size and thus traffic on their servers. Cuz for instance if you send a photo it doesn't send it with the full resolution but lowers it to maintain file size. So i'm guessing they do the same to audio files.

Nah it happens with any App that isn't the stock Voice Recorder app
I guess it's special
I flashed MIUI and nothing records with the same quality as Samsung's app

Huawei u8800 Video and Camera Settings

Hello,
I'm using the latest aurora ics by dzo update 4.1.1a, and when i try to configure the video and camera settings i see a lot new features and settings.
Can anyone tell me the best configuration to record [email protected](if possible) videos with the best audio/video quality and also the best configuration for the camera in order to take good photos?
Thank you in advance
I tend to use a third party app on this phone, because I haven't been happy with the results of the stock camera. There is a kick to processing time though. I think the camera is generally pretty lousy though, so don't expect great quality.

Do you recommend any app?

I like Pudding Camera for free and Vignette (paid). These only do stills though, to be honest, I don't often use the video camera. When I do I just make sure it is set to 720p.

[Q] Video recorded upside down. How to rotate?

I have G2 and I have recorded video which is very impotent for me (My sons birthday). when I transferred the video to PC I notices that its upside down. How can I rotate it without losing quality? I must fix this video file.
Try to use different video player which can understand the orientation hint. Or find a simple video editor, this issue is very easy and basic to fix, won't lose quality.

I think you will have copy it off the phone and use a computer app top do this. I'd Google for something free

Enable audio noise gate on whatsapp

Hi guys, is there any way to enable noise cancellation/ noise gate, for whatsapp audios? When i send an audio it sounds really bad, this happens on stock and stock based roms, not on cm11 or cm 12. Now im using cloudy 2.1 and the whatsapp voice notes are bad ( do not confuse with audio recording app). If i record somethinh with the app it sounds good. I also notices that with Bruce kernel it records a little bit better, but not enough for what this cellphone is capable. So, can i enable noise cancellation for whatsapp?
