[Q]Cannot lock screen automatically - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My nexus4 cannot automatically lock the screen anymore, The setting is that it should turn off the screen after 1 minutes, but the screen just keep on light all the time, the only way is pressing the power button manually.
The ROM version is 4.2.1. Do anyone have the some issue? How to resolve it? Thanks a lot.

Mine locks after a given time. Try rebooting and report if it changed something maybe... Or try changing the screen off time (for ex. try 15 seconds).

No, after deleted some apps, it works OK in the last two days. May have some relationship with the apps.

I wonder if file corruption might be a possible cause. Try changing the value to anothe one to rewrite into the memory again at see if this helps.
I have in the past experienced inability to connect to network although all my network setting appear correct. But if I delete the entire setting and re-add that back, everything works again. I think this might be the same cause.

Is it possible to lock the device without turning off the screen?

I have noticed that when you lock this device, the screen stays on for a couple of seconds, but it turns off after that.
Is there a way of keeping it on?
Thanks
Hello,
Programmatically it is possible, just need to call SystemIdleTimerReset() on particular duration of time say 15/30 sec it will never let you device go to sleep mode(backlight off).
Thanks

Thanks for your reply.
I think I already tried that but I cannot confirm it.
Anyway, I found a workaround. The reason that I wanted this was because of the GPS. I have found out that if I use the GPS intermediate driver, the GPS will stay on when turning off the screen.
Cheers.
Try this little tool "Keylock" and turn off the display-timeout in the WinMo settings:

I think this should work.

screen won't timeout

I have a i9020A and my screen will not time out. I have it set to 15 sec, even installed screebl and set it to 15 sec....no matter what i do the screen won't turn off unless i press the power button......tried multiple reboots and no fix....how do i fix this? this is becoming a real pain
Try doing a factory reset. I had the same problem. It was not the first factory reset that solved it but the second one. Make sure you do not install the apps immediately. After the facotory reset use it for a day or two and observe. Then install the apps one by one. I think some apps cause this problem.

Is the phone plugged in? There's an option to keep screen alive during charging which may be enabled?

[Q] Clock Time Jump

The issue is when i turn the screen off, lets say the time is 2:00PM and i check for notification at 2:20PM. What happens is as soon as the screen turns on the time jumps from 2:00 -> 2:20 PM , shouldn't this be done as a background process so that we shouldn't even see the time jump?
Anyone else facing this issue and any workarounds/fixes?
Thanks

Hi,
Does it always jump to the correct time?
I have seen this on different ROMS on other phones.

Pretty old. Used to happen on my S2 too.
i guess it is an intent that gets activated upon waking of the phone (by turning on the screen)... when you do that, it updates the screen and thats why.
but then again... that is only what i think.. if it should update it while the screen is turned off it would be an active process and use battery
Does it on mine too but only the clock on the main lock screen, the time on the top bar seems to be correct.

Yes it always jump to the correct & exact time....it seems like a battery saving feature...if it is, other people with S4 should also experience it,no?

For me i have a pattern Lock with time...so the moment i turn it on this is done on the lock screen clock...and yes the timer on the top bar seems to be correct(as in no jump).

Hi,
I ,too, have the pattern lock screen.
But I have the Lightning Launcher.
So, there is no lag or delay on mine.
Maybe ,try a different launcher and see.

oh...will do
New to XDA. Hello all!
I am experiencing this clock lag as well. :/
It doesn't matter if I use a custom lock screen or the Samsung lock screen with "swipe to unlock".
It's easily reproducible, let phone sit for 10-15 min and if you press the unlock button you'll see the wrong time for anywhere from a fraction of a second to a few seconds! and then it will update to correct time. Super annoying if I just want to know the time. Also, I've found that the amount the clock is behind is proportionate to the amount of time the phone as been idle....to a point...
I've seen the clock be over an hour off but it doesn't drift much more than than. Like a few folks mentioned, this should be running in the back ground. What is confusing to me is the clock in the top right is correct, so the phone is monitoring the clock...it's just not updating the lock screen clock.
Hopefully we can find a work around.
Not too keen on a new launcher...at least not until others who have seen that lag switch over and confirm it as a fix...but I don't think it will help, because the lock screen is still a Samsung process not controller by the launcher (i don't think)
Any thoughts?
The clock on the main unlock screen is essentially a widget. As a power saving feature, it only updates as necessary, which would be when you turn your phone on to look at the time. The time at the top of the screen in the notification bar is not a widget, it is a built in process that is always active. That is why it is current and the large clock, "the widget", is off until you turn your phone on to look at it.
My phone does the same thing. As does pretty much everyone's. It is not anything wrong with your phone, it is just the way it is set up. It is usually only delayed by a second or two, at best.
If it is an issue, you can always just remove the widget and use the time at the top of the screen to check. Or try a different app and set the update frequency.
It's not that big of a deal to me, I know it's always off until it refreshes, so I just give it a second to update.

screen will not timeout.

I have screen inactive settings set to 15 seconds. But my screen will not turn off on its own no matter what. I've tried all inactive times and none work. If I get a text my screen turns on and stays on till I shut it off. This is killing my screen and battery. Anyone know if this is fixable? Should I try factory reset? Thanks
Just in case anyone has this issue I learned a temp fix. Backup and restore and then reset settings. But the issue just arised again today. So it's only temp.

If you have the Dev option on to 'Never Sleep' then that's why. Otherwise I have no idea.

Nope. it's super annoying. And restarting phone won't fix it. All I change is ring tone and text tone. Takes about 3 days to start acting up again and it really kills my battery with my phone on in my pocket.

You don't have a Pebble do you? I found a setting with YANC Pro that was keeping the screen on
