So my stock messaging app decided ton leave my device and not come back. Could someone please pull theirs off of their device and post it so I can place it back on to my device. And would there be a special way to put it into the system apps folder or can I just stick it in there using root explorer?
Thanks

Reflashing works. Or if you have a deodexed zip take it out there *extract it* then just put it on your phone and through root explorer put it in the system/app. Reboot usually helps to make sure it comes back.

Finding Droid X bloatware files

Hey I have 2.2.1 Android version and 2.3.340 Sytem version on my Droid X and I need some help. When I first rooted my X I very quickly uninstalled all the bloatware that I didn't want bc I didn't know that you could just keep it and rename it. Now I have Root Explorer and I have the capability of renaming files, but I'm missing a TON of bloatware. Do any of you guys have link directing me towards a place where I can download those missing files? Thanks!

Did you make a backup before you. Started your install spree
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Unfortunately, no. I'd already uninstalled a few apps before I made my first backup. Yeah, I know....stupid, right? Lol.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Lol I'm pretty new at all this but I'm sure you could find a stock rom and flash it on your dx. Search around. I'm sure your not the only
One whose done this. If not you can get the apks for em

I sent you a PM like 5 minutes after you posted this...
Check it?
Yes I recieved the pm. Thanks for the help!

Okay, so I've got the file now that has all the stock droid x apps on it. I tried to copy and paste the apps from my sd card to system/apps. Unfortunately that crashed my phone and I had to flash back to my backup ROM. What did I do wrong?

you cant just copy the files over.
you need the apk and the odex files
then you need to change the permissions to rw-r-r and install it
then you need to reboot
i would SBF and start over renaming them to bak or try a custom ROM thats 10x better than stock like apex, darkslide or if you prefer ASOP then Liberty.
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what's sbf? Lol.

Oh, and after reading your helpful info on changing the permissions I still wasn't able to install some of the files. So, a few questions:
#1- What folder do I need the files to be in before I try to install the apps?
#2- Do the still end up in /system/app like all my other apps once I install them?
#3- Why would an app like for instance "friendfeed.apk" say "Aplication not installed" after I click on "install"? Bc that's what a lot of my apps are saying when I try to install them.
Please help! I'd rather install each of these apps 1 by 1, THEN rename them, instead of completely returning my phone to stock, customizing it (ringtones, apps, wallapapers), THEN rooting it again, installing the rest of the apps that I can't run without Superuser access, and THEN renaming all those files. Ugh, this is a pain in the butt. Please give me step by step instructions on how to do this (move "x" file and "y" file to folder "z", etc....). I'm a noob at this so I need it basic. Thanks!
Back up your contacts to your Google account and return your phone to stock. All your apps can be redownloaded from the "my apps" section of the market once you sign in w/ your Google account. Your contacts will also be resynced. It's a piece of cake. And rooting with z4root is so, so, so, easy.

Ugh....I was trying to avoid returning it to stock. I've got all my ringtones and stuff customized. Is there no way to leave my phone as is and just put the files back on there?
Also, would just doing a factory data reset put all the stock apps back on there? Or do I have to do more?

Stock Froyo, 2.2.2 i think
I did a factory reset from the settings and It did not show up on there.
What do I need to do to get this back?
You may have to factory reset if the developers here cannot find the apk.
Google "Atrix External Hard Reset".
but I recommend trying out Handcent, GoSMS Pro, or ChompSMS (my favorite) first. On further thought, I don't know if these will have any dependence on the stock messaging app being present to operate. I don't know if they use shared libraries or not.
There is a copy in the GingerBlur Bloatware restore zip.
http://briefmobile.com/gingerblur-rom-for-atrix-4g
That is Deodexed though.
just an idea here... i would try if i was at a good computer... can you rip one of these apart and pull the apk from it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
yeah on other phones i know you can rip the apk out of the ROM and install it to your device. is this possible on motorola ROMs?
if this is not answered by the time i get home from work i will try to extract it myself. i can haz subscribed.
okay ignore my suggestion. its not easy if possible at all to pull anything out of an sbf... ouch
EDIT: is this what you are looking for? let me know if it works.

You have to push it to /system/app/
Just copy messaging.apk there with root explorer(mount rw) and set permission to 644 rw-r--r--. Then reboot.
Or try this.
Here is the bloatware zip with messaging.apk in it (removed other apps from it). Install with the old cwm recovery if you still have it.

yes. i woke up this morning and realized how dumb i am. its a system app. (i really wasnt thinking yesterday) so you need an update.zip or some other way of pausing it over. (update.zip is probably the most reliable imo) if you dont wanna push the whole bloat restore. i can build you an update.zip for just the messaging app. let me know if i can help

need some TiBu assistance please

Well, I went and deleted something off my phone that I probably shouldn't have deleted.
If someone would be so kind to use tibu and backup (BackupAssistanceClient) and send me the back up files, that would be awesome!!
I did try extracting the .apk and .odex from TBH's 2 part install and moving those two files to /system/apps, changing there permissions, and changing their owners and still nothing happened. Those two files are still not registering in my phone.
i am on rooted .596, just incase anyone was wondering
Why don't you just sbf to froyo and reinstall tbh 2 part? Or am I missing something simple that you need?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
yeah, its simple what i need. I just need someone to go into their TiBu and look for backupassistantclient, back it up, and send me the file. I dont feel like sbfing again.
I have no idea how to do that. Wish I could help. Can you google that and install?

TiBu is Titanium Backup. If you have TiBu, you can do this.
I have tb. I'm no pro but if you want to walk me through it I'll see what I can do.

thanks for offering to help. Someone else helped me before you. but i will still tell you how to do it.
All you have to do is open up TiBu and find what you want to back up. Back it up. Then you go to your sd card and go into the titanium backup folder. Find the file that you backed up and share it. you can share it via what ever options you have available.

[Q] (Q) 188 Pages--Where it It?

I am trying to get a list of the system file names so I can remove things like the Chinese keyboard and other installed apps I will never use like Google+. Even a list of what not to remove should work.
I tried different search terms and came up empty.
I am a little OCD when it comes to junk on my PCs and just want it all gone from my 7.
I did order an OTG cable from Amazon that was recommended in another thread and it works great.
Using an app like root explorer, navigate to /system/apps
Delete anything you don't want from there, but be careful!
Have a backup ready if you delete something important

I guess I will look at the files and if it's something I'm unsure of, I'll ask.
I would definitely back it up first. Thanks.

[Q] NfcNci.apk nfc.odex deleted. Cant get NFC to work!

While attempting to install one of the modded NfcNci.apk files i deleted my originals and can't seem to find downloads for them. I installed new ones from another place on Xda but im unsure if they were correct for my device and now i cannot seem to get NFC to turn on at all. I may just be installing them incorrectly, or i have the wrong files. I have no idea.
thanks in advance for any help!

If you use FX File Explorer and the root add on it will set the permissions for you on your apps. Other files like initd files and such need the permissions manually elevated but for apps like these it's automatic. Don't forget to reboot after copying the files over.

Sounds like you did the right thing. The permissions should be like the screenshot. If it's not working maybe other filed are missing, hard to say.

so i think i figured out part of the problem. I didnt use the stock rom to pull them from, it was the syndicate rom ( i apparently dont know how to read when i click things). I have the G900VVRU1ANHA_G900VVZW1ANHA_VZW.zip which contains a .tar.md5 inside. Without flashing this, using odin, to my S5 how can i access the system files to pull the apk and odex? i tried one of the guides in a thread to open the tar.md5 as a .img.ext4 and then mounting the image using DiskInternals Linux Reader but it could not get the file to open after mounting it. Now im REALLY lost as to what i should do, and im just fingers crossed that replacing those 2 files is going to enable my NFC again. (im assuming so since its all that i touched, but my knowledge in this department is limited)
thanks again for all the help, i usually just search for days for answers but with this im coming up blank!
Okay, so i downloaded the /apps/ zip from this thread and copied them from my pc to my phone. Using ES File Explorer i moved them to the /system/app/ folder. They originally had rwx rwx r permissions after the move, i changed that to rw r r and rebooted. Post reboot, attempted to enable nfc through the quick menu to no avail, going into the setting and turning it on the slider turns to green but the NFC icon does not show in the notification panel, I cant scan any NFC tags, and after exiting settings and going back into them the NFC setting has reset itself to off every time. I am now at a complete loss of what to try next.
just a ps: when running syndicate rom in slot 1 (safestrap) i was able to get NFC turned on and working just fine.
lol were you on rom slot this whole time? rom slots do have issues at times such as nfc not working..
glad my rom works for you though!

If you are on NHA either if these will work. NHA DeOdex or NHA Odex You can use DeOdex files on a Odex ROM with no problems.

I would do a factory data reset from the settings menu and reinstall the stock slot. All the time you spend messing with this you could be all done by now.

i thought about doing that, but with a factory reset wont i lose pretty much everything on my phone as of now? i forget just how deep one goes but re rooting and configuring seems like a lot of work if it can be resolved without doing so
