Stock Froyo, 2.2.2 i think
I did a factory reset from the settings and It did not show up on there.
What do I need to do to get this back?
You may have to factory reset if the developers here cannot find the apk.
Google "Atrix External Hard Reset".
but I recommend trying out Handcent, GoSMS Pro, or ChompSMS (my favorite) first. On further thought, I don't know if these will have any dependence on the stock messaging app being present to operate. I don't know if they use shared libraries or not.
There is a copy in the GingerBlur Bloatware restore zip.
http://briefmobile.com/gingerblur-rom-for-atrix-4g
That is Deodexed though.
just an idea here... i would try if i was at a good computer... can you rip one of these apart and pull the apk from it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
yeah on other phones i know you can rip the apk out of the ROM and install it to your device. is this possible on motorola ROMs?
if this is not answered by the time i get home from work i will try to extract it myself. i can haz subscribed.
okay ignore my suggestion. its not easy if possible at all to pull anything out of an sbf... ouch

You have to push it to /system/app/
Just copy messaging.apk there with root explorer(mount rw) and set permission to 644 rw-r--r--. Then reboot.
Or try this.
Here is the bloatware zip with messaging.apk in it (removed other apps from it). Install with the old cwm recovery if you still have it.

yes. i woke up this morning and realized how dumb i am. its a system app. (i really wasnt thinking yesterday) so you need an update.zip or some other way of pausing it over. (update.zip is probably the most reliable imo) if you dont wanna push the whole bloat restore. i can build you an update.zip for just the messaging app. let me know if i can help

Does anyone know how to get the stock version of swype that came on the preinstalled 2.2.1 rom onto CM7? The only reason i dont use the beta is because the theme it has is so ugly.

U can download a rom like iced glacier, and you'll need root explorer. extract the the zip. The apk is in system system/ apps. The lib is in the lib folder, although i don't know the name of it. What i do is use search when in the system folder, search swype. The two will show. Then you'll have to put those on the same folders on your system

Check the post below. It's for the G2, but works for MT4G as well (just verified).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9503569&postcount=6
As the post suggests, put your Swype files in the same folder as ADB and you should be fine. Note that you will have to go to Settings > Language & keyboard, and manually enable Swype since it's disabled by default.

I do believe you can use AndroidMate from the market.
ok, so apparently I don't know what I'm doing lol.
Sorry if this appears totally n00bish but thats what I am.
If I extract the .apk and the libswypecore.so from another Rom and place them into their respective folders on the Rom I'd like to use, (ex. placing swype.apk into the "app" folder on cm7) and then flash the Rom and start from scratch, shouldn't that work?
I actually tried it and it didn't. Am i missing something? I was hoping the answer was that obvious but it failed. Swype shows up but i get "swype package you installed is configured for another device" message and it continues to only function as a regular keyboard.
I'd prefer to avoid going through the CMD prompt on my computer again because without super detailed instructions, I really don't know how to go about doing it. So if anyone, anywhere can help me out it would be super appreciated. I checked the forums and I keep getting lost in the words.
(perhaps shouldn't have rooted my phone if I can't make it that far huh? but we all have to start somewhere I suppose)
Forgive me for making this so long winded but the more details i give up front the less back and forth messages that wing clog up forums.

MT4G stock apps on CM7
how can i get the stock apps like the message app on my CM7. i dont like the old version of it.

Its OK to remove. I always do as I use Gmail as well.

The only ill result I could think of is for any future (haha yeah) official updates which check stock apps. Is there an easy way to put it back? Where are general instructions for deleting and reinstating stock apps anyway?

I just use Root Explorer, move the .apk from system/app to a folder in my sd card I named backup.
Re-installing is as easy as dragging back to system/app and fixing permissions.
The easy fix is to just rename the email file and add .old to the orig name so you can find it again. Reboot and your set to go.

Ha. My thought process before even asking was "It can't be 'Windows' simple, can it?" Guess so. XD
Do you need to use CWM to fix permissions when reversing that?

No it's a long press then go to permissions and change it so that the first column has all 3 checked, then the next column has only the top checked and the last has nothing checked.

done moving the apk from the rom to the phone.
There several options for this rom and one of them is to return to the stock launcher. An easy way to do that is from the rom manager, go to download rom and under virtuous there is virtuous sense mods. Hit download and you can select the remove modded launcher option.
So I just installed EH06 (from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1221253) and it's running well, but it's loaded up with a bunch of stock apps I'd like to get rid of. Is there a easy way to get rid of these apps? (sprint tv, nascar, etc) I basically want to barebones it as much as possible.
Thanks!
I use super manager, free on the market, to remove unwanted stock apps.
I tried deleting the files from \system\app but wasn't able to get rid of them. (using super manager)
Hit menu, goto setup, check root function (I also have silent installer checked) then next time you enter system/app/ it should ask if you want it to be r/w, select that and it should allow you to remove them.
Had root already enabled, had to get into settings and hit the 'switch system r/w' settings and then it was fine. Just browsed to /system/app and got rid of the junk i didn't want to keep. thanks for the help/reply!

Yep, it gets the job done.
edit: oh yea and it has a backup feature so use it.
It's no fun to remove something only to find out that thing you removed is more important than you thought THEN find out that you need to either reinstall or start a pointless thread asking people to post apks for you.. nobody likes that guy. don't be that guy.

Here is another approach if you are willing to reflash download this Rom: Samsung-Epic-EH06-DeOdex-Update then open the zip file using 7-zip, winzip or a similar archive program. Afterward open the system folder and then the app folder, then delete or add the .apk file you want or don't close the archive and save your progress. Afterward flash this Rom Via CWM and then you are done.

Will it work with the tar/ODIN as well?
While attempting to install one of the modded NfcNci.apk files i deleted my originals and can't seem to find downloads for them. I installed new ones from another place on Xda but im unsure if they were correct for my device and now i cannot seem to get NFC to turn on at all. I may just be installing them incorrectly, or i have the wrong files. I have no idea.
thanks in advance for any help!

If you use FX File Explorer and the root add on it will set the permissions for you on your apps. Other files like initd files and such need the permissions manually elevated but for apps like these it's automatic. Don't forget to reboot after copying the files over.

so i think i figured out part of the problem. I didnt use the stock rom to pull them from, it was the syndicate rom ( i apparently dont know how to read when i click things). I have the G900VVRU1ANHA_G900VVZW1ANHA_VZW.zip which contains a .tar.md5 inside. Without flashing this, using odin, to my S5 how can i access the system files to pull the apk and odex? i tried one of the guides in a thread to open the tar.md5 as a .img.ext4 and then mounting the image using DiskInternals Linux Reader but it could not get the file to open after mounting it. Now im REALLY lost as to what i should do, and im just fingers crossed that replacing those 2 files is going to enable my NFC again. (im assuming so since its all that i touched, but my knowledge in this department is limited)
thanks again for all the help, i usually just search for days for answers but with this im coming up blank!
Okay, so i downloaded the /apps/ zip from this thread and copied them from my pc to my phone. Using ES File Explorer i moved them to the /system/app/ folder. They originally had rwx rwx r permissions after the move, i changed that to rw r r and rebooted. Post reboot, attempted to enable nfc through the quick menu to no avail, going into the setting and turning it on the slider turns to green but the NFC icon does not show in the notification panel, I cant scan any NFC tags, and after exiting settings and going back into them the NFC setting has reset itself to off every time. I am now at a complete loss of what to try next.
just a ps: when running syndicate rom in slot 1 (safestrap) i was able to get NFC turned on and working just fine.
