LED light to blink more often? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to get the LED light to blink more often? Like on galaxy s3 it blinks every 3 seconds..
(I guess Light flow could, any other option?)
EDIT: see post #6

Light flow in the Play Store

There has to be a way without an app. If that app can do it on stock odex roms, I'm sure it can be done. People are having slight issues with that app.. So I decided to back off from it

Completely stock, no. Custom ROM or an app that enables it, yes.

People having issues must be user error. It generally works perfectly for me. Every now and then the LED doesn't blink when it should for some reason, but even that is rare and no big deal. Light flow is infinitely superior to stock.

For anyone on CM10.1 go to setting/system/notification light and change Default to normal and normal.
It will then blink every like 2 secs.

Yeah, light flow is really the way to go. Which reminds me, I need to buy the pro version...

Notification light?

Is the LED below the screen supposed to function as a notification light? I ask because I haven't seen it light up even once for anything. Not when charging, nor when there are new emails, messages, etc. Heck, does it work at all?

I see the notification light blink white when I have a new email from Gmail. Do you have Settings->Display->Pulse notification light enabled?
I guess you should make sure you have email notifications (do you hear sounds?) on as well.
I to have yet to see this notification light. I do have Pulse notifications enabled and yet nothing happens when charging even after the device is turned off and charging. I'm unlocked, rooted, stock, with CWM recovery.
Edit: I also do hear the notifications when receiving emails just not the light notification.

Yes, my pulse notification setting is on. I get the audible tone that I have email but no light ever.

You guys are not alone. There is another thread on this issue. Seems that the LED, for some of us, works sometimes but often does not work at all. There is an app called LED tester (free) that you can use to see what the situation is with your LED. Note that installing Light Flow is not a solution - when the LEDs are not working they will not be working under Light Flow control. So far I haven't been able to spot what triggers the LEDs to start or to stop working. Restarts seems to have no effect. With mine, when they work they work for a day or two then abruptly stop and stay stopped for a day or so.
A number of people seem to be affected by this but there is no indication yet whether this is a software bug (hopefully) or a dodgy hardware batch.
Mines been working since day one... Installed light flow and kept on moving

I've never seen the LED on mine, LED tester does nada! I'm hoping it's software but ultimately not too concerned, not a feature I care too much about.

Where is the light supposed to show up?
My notification light works, alas on both the N10 and the GN it *never* blinks on the first notification it should report after a reboot. From the 2nd time onwards it works as intended.
Didn't even realize this had an led...so guess mines never lit up either

By default, the notification lights only show up when the screen is off... and the moment you power on and reach your lockscreen, they go off... in my custom ROM, I have an option to enabled the notifications lights when the screen is on as well...

No kidding, I had to go look in the little book to see where the led even was!
I disabled it due to constant pulsing...mine works TOO good.
Looks like mine doesn't work. Even after using light works app. This may push me to exchange this now along with light bleed problem that is pretty visible.

LED notification for charging

Coming from HTC Evo 3D, i've grown to love the LED notification showing red whenever the phone is being charge, and so far the only disappointment with my Nexus device is, that there's no idication from the LED wether the phone is being charged or if it's fully charged. I am simply wondering if it's possible to add that feature with a little application? If someone has done it before, could they please assist me.

I haven't used light flow on the n4 yet, have used on s3 its amazing the way it combines colours to give different colours!
+3 flow light
Light Flow is great... however is there any way to enable the LED while the phone is OFF and charging? Is that a purely hardware thing or does the kernel or bootloader come into play

Mine is working but for some reason I can't use the default "messages" notification. I have to use the specific one for handcent. It was also causing some issues with my gallery and stock browser.

I didn't realize people are still using this after SIII since we DO have an LED notification light and apps like Light Flow and Light Manager to control them now.... any reason I'm not understanding? Feeling nostalgic or are more of a visual learner preferring to see the icon instead of a flashing light?

For me I like the larger, brighter, moving icon that catches my attention faster than a single LED. To each their own though.

Of course, just wondering! Thanks for your insight :good:
Can you look at the led light and tell whether an incoming message is Gmail or a text? NoLed has icon notification that lets you know what is coming vs just a blinking light.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
I can tell the difference. I use Handcent SMS and it allows for custom LED notifcations, also a few roms had custom led color features.

If you had searched for Light Flow or Light Manager, you'd know that those apps are designed specifically to change the notification lights to tell you what app is has a notification.... So.... Yeah, there's that.... Hmmm

[Q] Nexus 4 notification light

My Nexus 4 just arrived and while playing with it I noticed that the notification LED was nowhere near as bright (50%) as my Nexus 3 (Galaxy Nexus). It also flashes at a much slower rate than the GNex!
Is this normal?
Can anyone else confirm this please?

Is there anything I can do to make it brighter?
It's really hard to see the light in a bright room and the reduced frequency means that the notification could be missed easily.

Nothing you can do to make it brighter. You can install light flow form the play store to customize colors and frequency.

Adjust your brightness settings? flash a custom rom that gives you more control of your led light???

and,.. what rom would that be?
Just install light flow mate. As someone else said you can have a different color for each notification and you can set now fast it blinks.
You can even set the light to be solid so it doesn't even blink.
When you set colours they are a lot easier to see than the white ish one that's stock.

Thanks, going to do that right now!

Light manager works well too. I like it better than light flow because it doesn't drain as much battery
These apps from the playstore drain too much battery. You can get almost the same control over your LED if you flash a ROM like CM or ParanoidAndroid, you will find the preferences for LED under display in those ROMs
