defy takes a bath and now battery go hungry - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.. yesteday i was on my pool and decided to take some pics with my defy...
Everything went fine till camera preview gets out of focus so i just closed camera app.
Then a couple of minutes later a warning message appeared on the screen saying something like "phone has a problem and needs to restart to fix it"... so i restarted phone but then it cannot get signal.
So i dry it with a towel and open back and take off the battery and leave it to dry on the sun for 10 minutes.
Now signal is ok, phone works completely normal BUT: Battery gets very hot and drains like 1% every 10 minutes (even on sleep mode).
I chequed cpu frecuency to verify if it doesn't stay on 1000mhz but it is not stuck, it changes to 300mhz normally...
Today i flashed an SBF and re-intalled CM7 from scratch but battery stills hungry... I have a new battery wich i bought last weeks and today i tested it (i was using old battery) and it's the same as the old battery so it's not a battery problem.
Any ideas? thanks
edit: i think i discover the problem: camera freezes phone when i take a shot, it's hardware related so i think it's time to change my old defy
happy christmas everyone

well... not a single response... i have disambled phone completely, removed camera and cleaned connectors with Isopropyl alcohol... camera stays out of focus and phone stills eating battery 1%/10 minutes... appearently defy is not so waterproof.

...well good luck with this problem. I have had similar problems when getting phones wet before. The only phone that I have had that could actually get completely soaked was the Verizon G'zOne. Sorry to hear about this. Maybe you can find a cheap one on eBay or CraigsList. Good luck and enjoy the New Year.

permanent water damage?

This question was just asked to me by avery close friend.
Has anyone dealt with the phone recovering from being completely submmerged under water?
Below is the procedure followed on my friends phone after it fell in the toilet. ( I don't know how he managed that)
He took out the battery and left the phone open and face down, to let it air dry. Thiis happened around 9:15 pm est (02/24/09)
I told him to give the phone a few days to dry, I will post to see what happens.
Any suggestions from the community?
Thanks in advanced.
Tell him to put it in rice.
first things first, is the little sticker in the battery compartment still white? if not then keep reading, if it is then call t-mo when the phone stops working and get warranty exchange.
if the sticker is no longer white then it is out of warranty and the fun stuff begins, go here to see how others have fixed it
I washed my G1 on accident. Finicky on starting up, but I took the battery out immediately, took the blowdryer and did that for about half an hour (on cold), and then let it sit out for a few days. It sometimes will just display a blue LED and do nothing else. I've noticed holding the trackball and pressing the power button multiple times it started up more often, not sure why. Touchscreen kinda doesn't work and the home key goes bananas once in awhile.
Thanks
Ok so it is now in rice after I blow dried it from about a foot away on cold for about 10 minutes. My friend said he will pay me $50 to get it working again.
he doesnt have the time to do it and just took is sim card out and put it in a different phone...
i guess i will leave it in the rice for a couple of days. I hope the rice doesnt puff up and get stuck in the swivel compartment... LOL
Anyways- - off topic and all but I am also making a theme for the competition. Maybe I will test it on his phone (cant get any worse in case there is a problem)
Thanks all for the help.
cheap way to fix it
buy a new battery
switch them
tell Tmo that your phone doesnt work anymore
and there you go

and how is that gonna fix the fact that the water damage indicator is no longer white???
you will have a completely new battery that already has untouched battery indicator
Dry
Put it in front of blow dry cold for an hour. I had two iphones one fell in bathtub and other in the toilet. I even washed the one hat fell in toilet 3-4 times. To my surprise the indicator of the headphone didn't change colour. Blow dry does a good job. Remove everything from sim to cattery and SD card

you are an idiot the sticker is on the phone NOT on the battery, take your battery out right now and look on the side wall of the battery compartment in the lower right hand corner, that is the battery indicatot. maybe you should read before you look dumb. i tried to be nice with my other post in hinting that you were wrong but you didn't get that hint

Fried N1

A really bad holiday for me, the other day i've turned off my N1 at night and can't be able to boot it again the morning after! If i press the power button all i get is a vibration and it stucks, i can't boot into fastboot or recovery too, and if i live the battery inside it gets really hot, i think about a short circuit
Did your phone get wet by chance?

I don't think so, but it should be, i was sleeping in a tent (i was in a camping) and it started raining
Well stop trying to make it worse and take out the battery and do the proper drying maintenance on it, maybe you'll get lucky.. if you haven't tried to boot it and mess with it too much already.
Take out the battery, leave the back cover off, and put it in a jar of rice. The rice will help take the moisture out of the phone.
With any luck, your phone should work by tomorrow.
Along similar lines, I was using my N1 the other day (bright sun and temp. above 30 celcius) and it became incredibly warm. I took it out of my pocket to find it smoking. I removed the battery, and left it for an hour.
I came back and put the battery back in, but to my horror it wouldn't power. I tried plugging it in, thinking it may have drained the battery, but to no avail. I now have a very expensive paperweight.
No liquid or anything, and stock rom, locked bootloader. Anyone else seen anything else like it?
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread, it just seemed an appropriate place.

You were using it or it was in your pocket?
I was at the pool one day when my daughter was in swim lessons, 35C or so that day and in partial shade, and my N1 got pretty warm just doing normal stuff.. Luckily no magic smoke escaped on mine.
I had it in my pocket, occasionally pulling it out to send a message, but it was in my pocket when I pulled it out to see smoke.
Maybe just my bad luck. I'll send it to HTC and see what they say. They'd better not charge me for a repair.
If the problem is that it got wet then you need to take the battery out and dry it out, maybe in a bag of rice. Leave it for a day or two.
Every time you try to get it to work while it is wet can break it. Even the first time could have broken it completely if it was wet enough. But if it didn't each time you try it again brings more risk of permanent damage.

Wierd shutdowns

My phone shuts down when i open the battery cover, it started happening a few days ago. Sometimes it turns off without opening the battery cover, but it is probably related to the problem, since it started occuring approximately at the same time. The battery doesn't move when i open the battery cover, It doesn't happen every time i open the battery cover, but it is really anoying when it happens, especially when it shuts down by itself.
EDIT: while writing this i opened and closed the back a few times, phone turned off two times
Try this.
keep Ur phone screen downward. Maintaining this scrictly open the battery cover. See if the phn is off..
Do several times. & tell me d results.

Think this is because the screw of the back plastic, i.e. the screw which holds back the battery to the casing, check it or the wire has been broken, and in contact because of other grippers or wires from welding.
Check it out.
OR just it may be a sensor problem.
Dont know, can you upload pictures or video?
Try putting a thick piece of rolled up paper between the battery and back cover

It's probably the sensor, i reflashed back to 2.2 jps and there was no problem so far. So far. There is nothing wierd about the hardware of the phone, so pics and vid are useless, i compared mine with friends G3 and they look identical under the hood, probably the sensors got a bit messed up. We will see if the problem presists, but i doubt it will.
EDIT: The phone was on my desk for like 20 mins, i didn't even touch it, it turned it self off with no sign or reason or warning. I will flash stock firmware and go to SamFu*kingSuck service, i hate this phone, it always dies on me when i need it. I will never ever buy a product from samsuck again. My next phone will be HTC and i will try to get it as soon as possible. Thank you all for making this piece of junk phone better and better every day for us that got screwed by samsuck. Really, a big thanks to all developers that even bother with this junk. Sry for ranting BTW

Nexus 4 won't boot. Red LED Flashing

I was playing around with my Nexus 4. It fell in a glass of water. I took it out within 2 seconds. Phone booted up and worked fine except Camera and the earpiece. Those started to work fine after around 5 hrs automatically. I flashed Stock Android 4.2.2 via Fastboot after everything was working fine. It failed while flashing bootloader and then the phone went completely blank. I did 30 mins of work and google search and I was trying all sorts of combinations and the phone booted by luck. After then it went in Blank many times showing *white* LED. I was always able to take it out of that by some combinations. Now the phone got stuck in bootloop. I switched off the phone and plugged it for charging. It charged upto 100%. My mom took my phone and locked in the cupboard (due to exams) I got it today (after 2 days) and when I try to boot then it just shows *Red* LED for some time and then goes off. If I plug it to a wall charger then the Red LED lasts merely a second.
Please help me guys.

Take out the battery and reinsert it,i have seen people complaining of red blinking led issue, but in their case, the phone shut down due to 0 battery, and when try to turn on by connecting wall charger, the issue showed up.If there's a possibility that the phone got completely discharged in cupboard(due to low or no signal),then that might be ur issue as well.

I am afraid taking out the battery. What if voided the phone ?
If the phone has been water damaged, warranty won't help you anyway so you haven't got anything to lose! Just a reminder, if you drop your phone in water, turn it off (take out the battery if possible) and put it in a bowl of rice for 12-48 hours to help dry it out, do not turn it on before then!

The phone isn't really hard to take apart, I posted a video on YouTube a while back showing how to take apart the phone and replace the screen.

Will try then
I have a complete set of screw drivers. None worked on the Nexus 4 :/
Similar
Dropped phone in toilet. 2 seconds max. Didnt have luxery of a torque screw or pop open capabilities threw the N4 in bag of rice. 4 days later. it turns on and the screen looks fine, but auto shut down right when main screen loads. Checked for water damage on the inside: void stickers were pink, but phone seemed fine and no sign of water damage, until I took out the battery. it looked a bit damaged. I replaced it today and I am still getting the same issue. Right when I am taken past the Cyanogenmod loading screen, the main page loads and says "shutting off" or "powering down" whatever it says. The battery seems to always be between 16-18% also. Anyone ran into a situation like this or have any suggestions? please!!!! thanks!

[Q] [Water Damage?] Replacement parts Source

Tragic moment last week, a mate just got his Find 5, loves it. I'm saving for my own. Anyway, the poor bastard dropped it into some water. :crying: Seemed fine, dried it off and riced it overnight. Worked ok, but occasionally the screen would shut off. Riced it for another night and it seemed to work fine for a few days but it went back to shutting off/screen going off again.
He thought he narrowed it down to launching ingress but it seems very random, it will work fine for a while (eg at work/home it's fine but when he goes out eg to play ingress it shuts off) He mentioned he got a battery overheat warning which is indicitive of a battery fault due to the water damage I suspect.
Anyway, can anyone recommend a few troubleshooters to check if it's the battery or something else such as mobo damage as well as a good teardown/disassembly guide for the Find 5 (I've done a quick search and didn't turn up much). I've not yet opened it up to check for corrosion or moisture. I thought it would have been fine give its short water exposure and relatively sealed unit design, unfortunately It seems not.
Also if someone could recommend a supplier of parts (specifically the battery for the Find 5) that would be great!
Thanks :good:

I believe that the battery is held inside of the phone..unfortunately you cant just take off the battery cover that easy. Youd have to do a tear down and i personally am no expert doing so. I honesty think your friend is SOL, unless he finds parts online on ebay or somewhere else. Sorry for your loss. RIP Oppo Find 5.
Wasn't too hard to get into it. The back peels off with s bit of spudging to release the clips. He's getting a new one under insurance. They may let him keep the old one if so I'll try fully dismantle, check for corrosion and test the battery. If required I'll rebuild my own pack.
My main issue is lack of parts.
