[Q] So I bought this Nook color off Craigslist....

Excited as all outdoors because it was already rooted. Got home, sat down and went to put in my information, hmmmmmm, I got it from a black guy but there's a asian gmail account. :sirens: Maybe he purchased it from the guy just as I've done. I enter my account info and try to remove his, the apps need his so I cant delete him. Nothing a wipe won't fix right? Wrong. So after reading here a very small amount I realize I may need the original owner's B&N account info to resolve this.
Anyone care to chime in on this before I bother this guy for my money back?
Try to do a full wipe and return to original firmware. Then register an account for BN. Flash to cm7 afterwards. Hopefully it will work.

If you use another rom like cm7 you won't have to worry about it. They don't register anything with Barnes and noble.

If you are already at CM7 on the NC, then you will have to delete the old gmail and youtube accounts and sign-in to your own gmail and youtube accounts.
I just did a complete wipe of everything (SD card included) and his information disappeared. Thanks for the replies! Now to really dig into this.

How can I determine which method was used to root the Nook?

Try to do the 8 failed boots and you shouldn't have to worry about it...
8 failed = system recovery (will take it back to stock)
update to 1.2 if necessary
register with B&N if not going to CM7 (I do it anyway even using CM7)
Root or CM7
Now its how YOU want it... not some asian girl/guy/whatever.

If you are using CM7, the "CyanogenMod 7" logo appears when booted. There is no registration of the NC with CM7. CM7 is not rooting. It is firmware that replaces the B&N firmware.
A rooted NC will initially splash the "Read Forever tm" logo when booted. The older B&N firmware splashed "Touch the Future of Reading" logo, if I remember correctly. A rooted NC is the stock B&N firmware that has been altered to allow (root) access to the Android Market apps and still retain all the original B&N functions/features. A rooted NC does require registering the NC.
If the rooted NC is not registered to your B&N account, then:
1. Touch the "U" with the up-arrow icon, select Settings.
2. In Settings, select Device Info.
3. In Device Info, select Erase & Deregister Device.
4. Touch the Erase & Deregister Device button to start the process.
5. Follow any other instructions to complete the erase and deregister the NC process which may follow.
6. Reboot NC, it should return to stock setup, as when it was new.
7. Follow the instructions and register the device using your own B&N account.
8. Update NC to 1.2.
9. Root NC using ManualNooter 4.6.16. Instructions are here.
10. Enjoy!
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the info Bluepen.....I now have a new issue. Somehow, someway I've managed to be in a boot loop, the funny part is it's flashing between the CM7 splash and ClockworkMod Recovery. I've been searching since last evening to no avail, not one single instance matches this one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've tried the 8x boot thing, I can't tell if it's even shutting down. Also tried the three finger deal, may need to do more research on that one. I've also formatted my sdcard so basically I'm in route to stock which I don't mind if I can just get there.
Slowly but surely this thing will run like my Shift...!!!!! I got it, basically I'm registered with B&N and on the stock ROM, WHEWWWW!
I went to nookdevs.com ( http://mrm3.net/nook-color-recover-any-bricked-device/ ) along with the help perusing around here I was able to fix.
Cyanogen is up and running again.....

It is good that your NC is back running CM7!
Are you dual booting from/on emmc or booting from the micro sdHC memory card or have you applied CM7 to emmc overwriting theB&N firmware?
Sent from my NOOKcolor using XDA Premium App
I've overwritten the B&N firmware, so I guess out of those three options it would be the latter.

Congrats. Now overclock the **** out of it =D and install the tegra 2 games.
Sooo....I try to to reboot and I get hung up in Recovery. The only way to reboot is to remove the SD card.
Anyone else experience this?

So amongst all my stupor I realize (after reading so much more) that I need to remove the SD card to boot back into cm7 or stock once I'm done in CWM. What a difference that makes. Smh.

Or format the uSD to remove CWM and make it usable to yourCM7 install.
YCGIYWG
Will that allow me to not have to remove it everytime and what are the chances of getting Nook Stock to boot once its formatted?

The reason I ask that is because I've been stuck on the "N" screen several times to no avail.

Is there any way to re-flash stock rom w/o root?

I just had a Kindle Fire delivered this afternoon and I have not been able to get it to play Prime Videos. When I tap to Watch a video it goes into the screen where it appears to be loading then it says something like "video is not loading as fast as expected. Check wireless connectivity or try again later." I've tried everything there is to try and was bounced back and forth 4 times for about an hour and a half with support. My only hope is that something went wrong with the update and maybe reinstalling it makes it work.
Or maybe trying an older version? I have found instructions on how to recover from a rooted Fire, but not from stock.
factory reset?

With the New Update
This won't always solve your problem, but with the new 6.3.1 release out, you should be able to load that and install. That will flash it to the stock without needing to root the device.

You can download the latest stock rom directly from the Amazon Kindle web site, I believe it is in the Manage my Device section. They also provide easy instructions for installing it that don't require root.

SD card apps gone missing after system reboot due to system crash

My sdcard app went missing after my phone got stuck in rebooting process and i pulled the battery off. Luckily my phone started but it looked as if its was factory reset as it asked me setup Google account again which i didn't. Every thing was fine except my apps which were in sdcard were missing. I tried to reinstall the same using google play but got an error. Screenshot attached for reference. Please help me get back those apps.
I am using rooted JB 4.2.2 rom by quarx.

You need to go to my NC Tips thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item A10. Then you can flash a new ROM to fix it.

Yeah i tried that last night and i tried again 20 minutes ago, would help if my computer would recognize the nook color.
Had to use an old phone to burn the .img file and put it back into my nook and still won't boot up
EDIT: It booted up so now i am downloading CM 10.2 is that a good ROM to flash?

You say you got it booting, but you do not burn by hooking the device to a computer, you take the SD out and insert into the PC. And any ROM should fix it. Try the same one you currently have installed.

Explain what you mean when you say it fails. And what do you mean rom restore image? You need to be more explicit.

Lets say i boot into cwm/twrp using SD or emmc i cant do a creen install (u know formatting data, cache, ect) and then did its time to install the rom, it installs like normal, no problem whatsoever, then installing g apps, same as before not a single problem or error message, then i reboot, see the cyanboot then its says "loading Emmc" or something close to that then the screen goes black, and stays black. weather 5,10,30 mins, an hour goes by nothing else will show on the screen. i though maybe i didn't format my cache (sometimes that's the problem on other devices in the past from booting) so i boot back into cmw/twrp and format it again, reboot, then after the cyanboot screen complete black screen, but i can run roms off SD fine but i dont like too

The original question on this thread was how to get stock back. You seem to be trying to put CM on emmc. You might do better putting stock back then try to put CM on it.

Thats what im trying to do, but when i try installing the stock roms, on the "instaling update" screen it says it failed, that that was because i did not have the original files on my nook, so i gave up on that

Hi leapinlar,
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I just dusted off my Nook Colour and want to take it back to stock. I followed your tips and used CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD to restore back to nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.
I followed another threads instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720) where it told me to first format data and format system. I then chose the nookcolor_1_4_3_signed to install and rebooted.
I've rebooted a couple of times now and it is stuck on the screen with the n and "Contains reader mobile tech by adobe.."
I then went back into CWM and chose the restore function but i'm getting the same result.

If you had CM on your NC before trying to go back to stock, you must first use my format zips from my NC Tips thread linked in my signature. Using CWM to format is not enough. Read item A15.

Hi leapinlar,
I believe I already stated that I did use your files?
Edit: Sorry, now I see I missed the note about formatting with 5-6-7. I'm not sure what that really means, or how to do it, but i've downloaded it and I'll put it on the SD card and see what I can play around with in CWM.
Edit 2: Got it working! Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to re-format the SD card so I can use it regularly again.
