Greetings folks -
After spending countless hours compares various tablets (Ipad4, Nexus 10, Asus, etc.) I decided to go w/ the Nexus 10 - and I'm not going to lie, one of the many intriguing aspects of selecting an Android 4.0+ OS device was being able to use the 'face unlock' and 'liveness check' as a quick unlocking tool (I'm well aware of the short-comings of these features, it still just intrigues me).
After fiddling around w/ my Nexus 10 for 2 days, I decided to go into settings and enable that feature. Lo and behold, it was nowhere to be found. I confirmed that my unit was running the latest version of the OS and then called in the support center to figure out was going on. Surprisingly enough, I was the first person to ever call in regarding this - but it turns out that Face Unlock is currently NOT SUPPORTED at all on the Nexus 10. For some older Tablets w/VGA cameras, but that had still upgraded to 4.0, Google intentionally made Face Unlock inaccessible due fear that the poor camera resolution would render it obsolete. How on earth could that be the case with the Nexus 10 and its 1.9 MP front facing camera?
I'm curious to know if anybody knows anything regarding an estimated release date of this feature - and rather if Google has decided to scrap it all together? I feel like the Nexus 10 should be running the most powerful, up-to-date version of the OS available so I find it puzzling that this has been left off.
I realize this is a tiny feature; however, it's something I looked forward to being able to use.
Thanks in advance!
Stock 4.2 and 4.2.1 on the Nexus 10 have Face Unlock under security. It even is an option when the tablet is encrypted, which is new in 4.2, I think.
Weird - working fine on my stock 16 nexus 10. Are you sure you're looking at the right settings. You want security then screen unlock.
It definitely, works, and always has done, as has been said, it's under security, lock screen.
If your rom does not have face unlock option and your device is rooted
Grab the FaceLock.apk from any other rom having this future
Push the file to /system/apps/ and correct the permissions to 644
Reboot and you will have facelock option in lockscreen options

Hello all,
I recently rooted and unlocked my Nexus 7. And one of the first things I noticed is that I can no longer NFC Beam Panorama photos.
Before the rooting and unlocking, I beamed several panoramas from my Galaxy Nexus to my Nexus 7. As well as regular photos too.
But after I rooted it and unlocked it (No custom ROM yet, still stock Jellybean), I can only beam the regular photos. When I attempt to beam any panorama photo at all, it acts like it is receiving the beam, and waits a while, then tells me the beam could not be completed.
I am not sure if I am the first one to notice this issue, but I was unable to find anything online about it, after a good amount of searching.
Some info about my Nexus 7:
Still running the stock Jellybean that came on it.
Rooted
Bootloader Unlocked
CWM Touch Recovery Installed
Nothing else really, just standard stuff like BusyBox, and AdFree.
My Galaxy Nexus:
Rooted
Bootloader Unlocked
Running Jellybeam ROM, but one of the early stock ones, with no real customization.
CWM Recovery Installed (not touch)
More standard tools, like busybox and adfree
Nothing that I can imagine would effect its NFC capabilities.
Again, this worked 100% perfect BEFORE I rooted an unlocked my Nexus 7. So I am 99.99% sure that my galaxy nexus is NOT the problem. The only change that occurred to break this feature was the rooting/unlocking of my Nexus 7.
Any one have any ideas?
I would prefer an actual fix, as opposed to just reverting back to un-rooted, locked status.
For anyone looking for a solution to this. I figured it out.
After trying tons of things, I finally got Panorama photos to beam successfully after rotating them. Either right, or left, it doesn't matter. But just rotate the image once so its tall and skinny, instead of short and fat. This can be done in your android gallery, where you beam it from. Just press menu > rotate left or rotate right
Then just rotate it back the right way, once its been beamed.
On my Redmi 3s the finger print use to log in works on paypal but not in Ebay and on my banking app. It works on iPhone and on nokia 6. I have tried it on Redmi 3s global stable and global developer rom but nothing changed. the banking app developers have taken feedback but I don't think they can do anything as the app shows "tap fingerprint (icon) to use fingerprint log in" and after tapping I get unable to login with fingerprint use password instead error popup.
is there any fix to it Xiaomi forum and bug report since the app introduced the feature couldn't help.
Can you unlock your phone with your fingerprint? What about app lock? Does your fingerprint work for app lock and other functions of the phone?
Yes the fingerprint works fine elsewhere it is just the 2 apps that I have the problem with. On the ebay app the popup asks to place finger on the scanner, when done nothing happens and I have to go back and sign it. On the bank app the pop up says tap fingerprint to use that method to sign in and when I tap screen I get another popup saying fingerprint option is not available use password instead. The 2 apps work fine on the Nokia 6 and iPhone. This eliminates apps being wrongly coded as they have the same path to sign in on the nokia 6( I think atleast the apps are not at fault) what could be the cause and how to work it out. I have tried it on the MIUI global stable versions the last 3 including the current one have the same problem and the global developer rom last 3 have the same issue.
Hmm.. These 2 apps work on the Nokia 6 and iPhone, therefore they should work on the MIUI too? The Nokia 6 is running Android I believe but the iPhone is running iOS. I don't think including the iPhone is a good comparison. Also, in the absence of a comparison with orher phones, have you investigated whether owners of other brand Android phones have experienced similar issues?
Also, everything else works with your fingerprint except these 2 apps yet you think the fingerprint sensor is at fault? Does that sound reasonable?
Based on the above, I am not convinced that it's the fingerprint sensor or MIUI's fault as you seem to make out.

I never said fingerprint is at fault. I am asking how do I fix it. comparing it with other phone like Nokia running android maybe there is something in the MIUI version of the OS that is bothering these 2 apps. and hence the queries.
I really can't say. However, have you compared it with other Android phones except the Nokia? How does it work with, say, this or that Samsung or LG phone. Have you searched the internet? Isn't a comparison based on just one phone kinda sparse?
It's a software issue, I also can't for the longest time use my fingerprints for PayPal login, I tap it and it says fingerprint verified and then just stays on that screen until I quit the app
I'm gonna go back to stock because it seems lineage is not going to get screen cast feature in my nexus 9 flounder. Already tried editing build.prop file... didn't work.
It's sad 'cause it's a really fast and well made rom, but it misses a critical feature for me.
Thanks for the great work!
I was having cast troubles with my Nexus 9 as well, but managed to resolve it. Here's what I did:
1) Dirty flash stock Gapps (I was on tiny).
2) Update my device to the latest LineageOS release.
3) Reset the Chromecast's WIFI setting.
After that full system casting started working again, though I did notice something weird - the system gets frozen for a few seconds after disconnecting, however it does come back and should I want to cast again - it still works.
Hope this helps anyone who comes across this thread.
Hi guys, I'm the owner of this device since december 2016. I was very happy when it first arrived, it was smooth, responsive, everything worked just fine and I was very happy with Xiaomi.
Later, Xiaomi just launched Redmi Note 4 and then my nightmare began. I was always searching for new MIUI features, and as such, I've installed as soon as possible a Custom MIUI China rom, like xiaomi.eu or MIUIBrasil.
Everything was just going well, but then I've noticed that Xiaomi released MIUI 8.5 on many devices with new features, and our device began to be a little "left behind" when it came to updates.
Later Xiaomi introduced MIUI 9, with the new features and so much more improvements, however, after MONTHS waiting, our phone just got a MIUI with and Android 6.0.1 on IT, they didn't even thought about updating to Android 7, on the excuse of hardware limitations (Oh yes, let's remind that apart from Camera, our phones are EQUAL to Redmi Note 4 in specs), anyway, I've already tried a few AOSP before, and now I thought that this was the time to give it a chance again...
However, with so many ROMs out there, I just thought, OK I'll try some before picking up one to be my daily. And then it began... OK, the first thing I missed from MIUI was the ability to record calls and block calls by choosing numbers from contact list (without having to type then manually), second, Network Type Dialog, which on MIUI I could see only three options (LTE, 3G and 2G) this saves battery and on my Country, my mobile company simply have a bug on their network, and if the network type 4G is selected when data is disabled, it will charge your phone anyway, everyday for using internet... (THAT's RIDICULOUS).
Another thing is the 3 finger screenshot, yes they're present I know, but on MIUI everytime you do this, the screen "freezes" and if its a list, it won't scroll, the same thing doesn't happen on AOSP, when you do Three Finger Screenshot on a list, it scrolls before taking Screenshot.
However, one may ask, Why you're not on MIUI then, if you like it so MUCH?
Ok, I'll answer this by explaining that, I CAN'T
Yes, you read it correctly, everytime I use a MIUI (I've tried many, MIUI Stable, MIUI China, Xiaomi.eu, MIUI 8.6, MIUI 8.3, even MIUI 8.2) and on ALL of them I have the same ISSUE i'm going to report now.
RANDOM REBOOTS after installing Magisk + Xposed combo.
When I got my hands on this phone, as I mentioned early, EVERYTHING worked like a charm, it never rebooted once, Xposed and Magisk were playing nice together, I could use modules from both Magisk and Xposed, and phone was amazing, but now, with newer versions of Xposed and Magisk, it doesn't work anymore.
OK, if I knew what combination I've used in the past, I could simply try them again, but the thing is that I don't, I don't remember which version of Xposed Framework I was using when everything was fine back 1 year and half from now, neither the Magisk version.
So I'm stuck with either using MIUI and having phone rebooting every now and then (it doesn't even REBOOT totally, it just doesn't turn on screen anymore and if you put screen against source of light you can barely see the BOOTLOGO animation Stuck, like if it were burned in on screen, it's weird) or with AOSP lacking many features I found useful on MIUI.
TL;DR I'm very displeased with this phone, with how XIAOMI forgot it and how frustrated I am because I can't use it properly, I can't customize it as MY OWN, and I just wanted to use it without rebooting.
Well that's all, just wanna share that and know if anyone else had the same feeling.
Best regards
1. You can use 3rd party app to record calls on aosp. With proper searching, you can get exactly what you want. For the blocking numbers from list, how often do someone need to block a number? It's a very minor feature.
2. Yes, there are more options to choose network, but choosing only 4/3/2G is still there.
3. About the three finger screenshot, yes aosp does it bad. But, you can use custom shortcut to take screenshots, even gestures like 2 fingers side swipe, which I use on Mdroid.
There's work around for almost everything, if you look properly. And if you like things simple, surely you'll miss out some things.
I feel bad, because I can no longer go back to a regular battery sized phone
I feel exactly the same
Xiaomi abandonned us
Luckily for me I gave my markw to my sister (she doesn't care about updates ) and got myself a mido ( redmi note 4)
But I miss my 4 prime it was the perfect size note 4 is too big. And battery life is slightly less with mido
I know how you feel about custom roms.
There is always a way to fix your problem with them but it demands time to find the solutions to bugs/ non-existent function ( custom rom is not for lazy person ?)
With miui you had almost everything in 1 package
( But miui also had so many problems)
Hello guys,
I bought my 6T a few days ago and have been noticing some annoying software issues:
1. When I unlock my phone it doesn't take me to the application I was using before I locked the screen; it takes me to the home screen.
2. The recent applications keep getting cleared even though I've turned the battery optimisation off.
3. In the lock screen when there's a notification, the ambient display shows the notification but touching on it doesn't turn the screen on. You have to hit the power button or unlock the phone in order to check notifications.
There a couple of other minor issues like apps crashing and then restarting that don't happen too often.
Just wanted to check if others are facing these issues as well and if someone has any solutions.
Those sounds like bugs in the OS, I say this since I'm experiencing the same issues on my OP6 running Open Beta 6 (based off OS 9.0.4 for the 6T).
Have you submitted a bug report on OnePlus feedback page? This way it will get the right people in front and get the issues resolved.

The device and oxygen Pie is pretty new so you gotta give it some time for software update.
Also do you have the tmo variant or the unlocked version?
Because the tmo variant has not gotten any software updates yet.

That's a fair point. I haven't done it yet, but I will. Thanks for suggesting it.

I have the unlocked version. You're right it's still pretty new and OnePlus might have jumped the gun a little bit in releasing this in an attempt to be there first OEM to push Pie. Let's hope they fix this in a future update.
I think I finally figured out why the recent apps get cleared. OnePlus has set the background app limit to 16 which is retarded. I remember it was the same on the OnePlus 3 as well. And of course you can't just modify the build.prop file to increase this limit.
It's things like this why we need root. I'm probably gonna have to do it soon if I don't find a way around this.
