[Q] Nexus 7 gallery animation bug - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All, jam new here.
So i have an issue with with my nexus 7.
Its not a big problem but making me nervous when something goes wrong. After I installed and used this app: screenshot ux trial, my gallery got buggy. Once I took a screenshot of gallery, all the animation in gallery now is bugged. Just after click a photo while it should zoom smoothly, it starts blinking screen, just blinking twice the older picture.
So how I can fix it. Please help.

Uninstall the app that caused the problem.

Solved Gallery issue

I am having a gallery issue where I select a picture and and different picture loads. Sometimes from the same album or different album. Shutting down sometimes resolves the issue or a soft reset and sometimes it does not. Sometimes I have to go into USB mode and add or delete a picture for ot to work properly again. One time the images in my download album al appeared blurry. I downloaded a picture from my email and then they all appeared normal again. Anyone else have this gallery bug?

Another one of those mind boggling simple bugs in Gingerbread/Nexus S.
Yes, I've seen similar, in that if I take a picture, it often won't show in the gallery unless I open it via a file explorer app from the sdcard.
I haven't tried forcing a media scan manually (there are apps for that), to see if that addresses it.
The Nexus S feels much more like a BETA product (software wise) than I recall the Nexus 1 feeling.

I had this exact same problem. You have to delete all of the thumbnails for your photos so that they reload. The only thing is, the thumbnails are no longer stored in the DCIM folder like they were pre-Gingerbread. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where they're stored - I used root explorer to find them and delete them.
/Android/data/
You will see a folder called 'com.cooliris.media' delete it. The gallery app will regenerate your album thumbs.

I mean wth do we have to go through all that to see our pics... they took forever to fix the text issue they said they have a fix for which we haven't received. The fix for blurry mms is fixed thank god. Now this? Yeah the N1 did feel like a better product but the updates helped that one too. These are stupid things that shouldn't be an issue though.

This issue happens on and off; it's quite absurd. My pictures are once again not opening to the correct photos. As I've said before, it's stuff like this (among a slew of other issues and glitches) which make Gingerbread, and to some degree Android, feel like a second rate experience.
Has anyone also experienced that sometimes pictures aren't clear in the gallery? Often, the picture will come up unclear, but after a second, will be clear as it's meant to be. But sometimes the clarity doesn't happen.
Does it have anything to do with the internal memory or something again (similar to the random ringtone change issue)?
Is this yet another glitch of Android?
Edit: I should mention this is not the MMS issue which is often mentioned. I'm talking about regular photos that are taken with the Camera. Those sometimes don't clear up either.
Yeah, I get this too.
I wait until all the pics are done downloading from the SD card... then I pick the picture.

It happens to me randomly even long after the SD card has loaded.
Why is the gallery reader like this anyway, where it is blurry at first, then clear?
Promise you its not androids fault. You will never EVER have a phone with HTC SENSE do that.

My gallery just freezes when trying to load. Sometimes the newest downloaded or pictures just taken won't show up, its random.

The low res fade into higher res gallery quirk is more of a feature and is how the gallery always has shown photos even back on the nexus one. It allows quick flipping enough photos without having to insanely cache everything in full from the start. It only should take a second to flick over though.
I'm loving the nexus s gallery performance. I'm sorry to hear some aren't as thrilled.
One if the posters spoke about this stuff not happening in htc - that's rubbish, the 3d gallery acts the same there too, only worse, because oh the lack of hyper fast inand. And the htc gallery is rubbish, it struggles to even show thumbnails if you have too many pics. I speak from experience owning the desire hd, which is the most powerful htc phone to date.
The wrong photo issue is completely fixed by clearing the photo cache and then restarting the device. It didn't clear up until the restart, for some reason.
I have some issues with the gallery as well. But I must say that it performs 10X better then it did on my N1, it was sooo slow and laggy on that thing!!!
Get JustPictures! from the market, way better that Gallery3d imo, plus you can access your picasa, flickr, facebook, smugmug, etc pics from there as well.
Android Gallery sucks ... It just sucks. It does not display in high quality, 16 bits instead of 24 bits. You will see terrible color banding on gradient colors.
Google just lied when they told us everything is 32 bits on Android 2.3.
Nah, that's not true.
I hate that because HTC Sense gallery is much better.
Skip that 3D animation transition, it is an image gallery. Without high quality output, that's no good.
JustPictures is the same, it still display terrible color banding.

I'm very happy with the Gallery performance, and as has been said the low res image fading to high res is a feature of the Android gallery, it's always done that on every handset I've owned.
The gallery has it's share of quirks/bug in the NS version of it, but agreed with others, the fading is a design feature, not a bug.
Has anyone encountered the situation wherein even the application images are in your gallery?

Camera / Gallery Crash after root

Hi,
After unlocking and rooting the Nexus 4 I have found that whenever i open the camera and try to take a picture, it takes one then the screen goes blank and then then the camera app crashes and I get the error "Unfortunately, Gallery has Stopped".
Looking into it a bit it the com.google.android.gallery3d version 40001 is what is crashing.
Is anyone else getting the same issue, or can anyone offer any advice?
Cheers

Similar thing happened to me, though it was when I tried to select a picture for my contacts, I just got "Unfortunately, Gallery has Stopped".
I made a back-up of the Gallery and deleted it through Root Uninstaller, but then when I tried to re-install it; it just failed.
There is no real solution to this other than flashing stock again, I had to do it, its a large loss though its worth it imo.
Check out this toolkit:
wugfresh.com/nrt/
It can flash stock for you if you dont know how, just select this option and hit the button.

Sorry cant post direct links due to not a high enough post count
I found out my problem was that I was under voltage too much

Gallery not working properly?

So I am having huge problems with the gallery app of my new Galaxy S4. Whenever I start the gallery app, I see only see the action bar and a black screen and it takes up to 5 seconds until I see the folders with the pictures and when I click on an album, it might take more than one minute to show me the contents, which usually is just a black picture. So not even really the contents.
I tried deleting the gallery data, but It is always the same after I fire up the app. Either something is broken with my phone or the gallery app. I have the MDM Firmware (rooted).
Okay disabled dropbox integration in gallery and now everything works fine, but still very annoying to find out whats wrong

Stock gallery slow rotation.

On stock gallery for no obvious reason screen rotation when viewing pictures can become very slow. Is anyone else facing such an issue?
Hi !
Yes, I was just looking for that, and found this post.
Now we're officially two facing that issue :/
EDIT : it's actually in every app that rotates, not only in gallery.
True that..it happened after 4.4.2 update..

Hey, I have the same problem, the screen rotation was ridiculously slow (3-5sec) in every app.
However, I just contacted Samsung about this issue and they said that a factory reset would solve it.
I'm gonna try that now and after I'll let you know if it actually worked!
the stock samsung gallery has always been horrible and slow, since my first SGS2 to my actual SGN3 n9005.
I solved the problem by switching to quickpic from the android market. its free, no ads, the same functions (and some more) and most importatnt: it's really fast! just try it, it's only a few KB I think, and it's the perfect solution for me!

Camera/gallery crashing - no error message

Hi all,
Sometimes, when I try to take photos with the built-in camera app, the app closes and doesn't save the picture (see the link). However, I don't know if the problem is with the camera app or gallery. Once, when this problem happened, I tried to take a picture inside WhatsApp and it worked just fine.
https://youtu.be/uVS0dT0mk18
I bought my S10+ during Black Friday and the only other thing that caught my attention is that sometimes it requires my pin instead of my fingerprint. In my S6 it only happened when the phone restarted, but I don't know about the S10. If it is the same case then the phone is restarting randomly and that is worrisome.
Thanks in advance,
Luiz
Sounds like it might be defective and a warranty claim is needed. However, first try flashing the currenr firmware with Odin and see if that fixes it.

Are you using a theme?
I am using synergy, sometimes when a app updates it will crash, i have to remove the theme overlays and reinstall and rebuild the theme.
Also when i used ADB to remove gallery because i use Google Photos. I couldn't use the camera either so i had to reinstall Gallery. You could try uninstalling updates from the app settings and let it update again, see if the issue persists.

I may try that, as the other option of flashing the firmware is a little bit more tricky. However, I don't use any theme and it is pretty much the same as out of the box.
I confirmed with my wife and she is having the same camera problem, with the cellphone at random times asking for her pin instead of the fingerprint.
i had the same issue before and wiping cache from boot-loader solved the issue for good
