[ROMs][GPL] Tenzo's Stock "Plain" HTC 2.1 ROMs - 2.37.605.4 w/JulyOTA [10-01-10]
Many of my recent efforts have lead me to take a few steps back in discovering a few things (does that makes sense?). In working on fixes for 3GP Vanilla MMS and the 50% TWS "issue" I have put these together.
Should hopefully help others, especially those new to cooking that want an easy, trouble free base to start with (no "extra fonts" and no "updating" the JulyOTA manually).
EDIT: if you have "issues" with either wired or wireless tether, you can use the apk's attached below. (thanks Conap, bugger561, and T2Noob)
I have built all of these ROMs from the RUU and integrated the JulyOTA. All ROMs are deodexed. Information below:

I just flashed this and now I am having troubles getting wi-fi to work. Whenever I try to enable it, I get an error saying "Unable to start wi-fi". I wasn't having any problems previously with any roms and I just did a full wipe from KaosFroyo V35. Any ideas?

THIS HAS BEEN FIXED... SO PLEASE IGNORE THIS POST (UNLESS OF COURSE YOU DL'ED BEFORE I FIXED THE LINKS)

crap... it was either the A2SD or ROOT version, yes? my goof... pulling links... will be back up soon
if you don't want to wait/reflash... unzip the attachment and put them in androidsdk\tools folder...
then:
adb remount
adb push tun.ko /system/lib/modules
adb push wlan.ko /system/lib/modules

SORRY BOUT THAT!!!
I have the same problem on Tenzo-Official2.1-JulyOTA-Root.
Why don't you just flash PlainJaneT2 which is total Stock with A2sd, and are able to enable JIT through a2sd with By typing "a2sd jit"
Everything works, on it is pretty fast for a HTC rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092
Just wondering Why you made another rom thats already out there...
I didn't mean to take over the thread just curious what the difference between PlainJane and this.
Another question is if you tested wired tether?
Because if you just dropped it in the rom I CAN GUARANTEE that it is not working, thats why I didn't add it to the rom, And If you did get it to work can you tell me how you did it?
If you included SETCPU i suggest you take it off if you don't want to have problems with the SETCPU developer later in the future..... A Member has been kicked because he included apps that developers had told him to get rid of.
This has the newest build of 2.1 by HTC. And wired tether has been updated to work on the Eris and incredible. Plainjane, even though it is older than this and T2 is still better for those who do jot care about JIT or A2SD. I've tried both as well as this and jcase's Rom features the most free memory. I uninstall a lot of stock apps and then add maybe 25-30mb of market apps. Plainjane left new with 95+mb free. This and T2 leave me with roughly 70mb.

this is completely stock... no extra scripts, no extra fonts, no a2sd, etc. it's stock... with july OTA integrated and deodexed. that's all i did. can you point out where the other completely stock ROM with JulyOTA integrated is? If i missed it, i apologize. again... other than not trashing bootloader, recovery, etc, it's as "stock" as it gets. no symlinks changed in update-script, etc. again, this is the only stock ROM w/July OTA integrated that i've seen on the forum. did i miss something? (Official Obsession is close... but that requires you flash over the update. not easy for beginning cooks trying to customize a ROM... and it's not deodexed)
the "other" 2 ROMs are different as well... one is almost stock, with just latest ChainsDD superuser (root) added (no a2sd), with Conap's CFS kernel. the other is the same, with latest a2sd added (which allows the ability to add cache2cache as well).
i've enjoyed PlainJaneT2... and it is still my base for TT2.1. i've given full props to you with links and request even for donations in that thread. if i've upset you, again, i apologize.
also, no "extra" apps (setcpu, etc) are included... i know the rules
i'm not trying to "ruin" any experience for anyone... or step on anyone's toes. i'm just trying to help out and contribute. certainly have never tried to upset anyone on this forum EVER!

one thing you can do with a2sd 2.7.5.1 is run the cache on the cache partition.
adb remount
adb shell
a2sd cachepart
when it's done, it will reboot the ROM. pull the battery and clear dalvik (or else you'll get a few FC's when you reboot).
you can try the above with "a2sd cachepartreset" and it "should" clear dalvik for you... but it hasn't worked well for me

try the "new" DL and just flash over (no wipe should be needed). what does it say your "kernel" is under software info?

Why use this old 1.2 when the official 1.4 does it cleaner: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
Perfect timing on this! My lady is techologically challenged and having a ROM like this is perfect. She kept busting my bawls about not having teeter... Every time I installed it via an APK it would always FC after a bit.
Edit this was on a different rom, so far only issue I've had with this rom is a FC when trying to auto-update google maps.

aww what the hell i'll give it a go...currently running BoS 6.0 and it's smooth...I'll post back with Quadrent scores for those who care about them.
Updated: well it might be me but the lockscreen seems more responsive, Video plays about the same but im in Rockplayer, Quadrant was 2677 using Quadrant Advanced. Kepp up the work guys.
Update: Ok well been playing with it and just found out No WIFI here. it won't pick up any signel...this might be just me but so far Reboot + turning wifi off and back on did not fix it i'm going to wipe cache and see if it resoves it.
Update: as of right now the Update did not fix the problem nor did wiping cache/data...Going back to my nandriod and i'll watch for updates.
Also i'm using a static setup with WEP Security if that helps...it shows my old connections but won't connect or find new ones.
Awesome please do but if you haven't yet try the updated version.
I had an exchange with you on slatedriod about "your" new kernel. You admitted that it is based on per shoots old GB codebase with your new wiz bang improvements. Why don't you say that here and say that this kernel is an L BS modified version of his kernel. You must just be looking for donations for the work of others?
you're going to continue updating illuminate with this right?
how have you improved playback of video in this kernel? is the improvement rom agnostic?
WiFI Issues
Well I was having intermittent WiFi problems with Illuminate until I flashed this Kernel, now I am just getting an error when I try to connect to WIFI.

Try the latest pershoot GB kernel. And/or try the Flashback of BoS roms
Hi Everybody,
I need some help. I installed this rom into my malata zpad. First opening, there was no problem but after restarting, touchscreen was not worked.
I reinstalled, but same problem was occurred. My touchscreen is not working, only back and home button, which are physical button, are working.
What can I do?
I noticed this behavieur with the latest Version before I hadnĀ“t any problems
I read today that this is Pershoot's latest + cm7 modules. No changelogs, no submissions to github. I read in the rules here something about "don't do anything to get us in trouble". To me this kernel looks like something that might do just that.
I loaded this kernal on top of illuminate yesterday. Couldn't determine if this was already part of the rom or another update to the kernal. In any event it did add some pep to it. Haven't figured out all the improvements yet. It did however mesh nicely with illuminate.
For the record I think this kernel is only compatible with illuminate and bos. Flashing this or clemsyns ver11 onto Flashback breaks the wifi.

No, it is working well. Thanks dev we appreciate all your work. Been driving this one around for a few days to see what was different -- speed. Still investigating but don't stop because you are the only HC dev that works on the kernal and the rom itself we definitely need more like you. Looking forward to your next works!
Kernel source needs provided as per GPL. All this looks like is a rebranding of someone else's kernel - to dispel that belief please provide source and changes or else this will be removed as it would be in violation of the rules.

He would need a 'first' work to have any 'next' works. Someone who actually took the time to research a little web history might find that the guy is merely a thief of others' ideas and work. They might find that the guy also has multiple usernames and accounts on various threads, in different forums, and actually "talks to himselves" in those threads. They also might find that the guy is also pretty much clueless, and would have exactly a 0.0% chance of developing his own kernel.
I'm not saying they would, I'm just saying they might.
I'd run stock on my Gtab before I ever TOUCHED this.
Just sayin.
By the way, 'eDirector'...In no way was I implying that you could be just another one of linuxboxsolution's 'NPC's.
Of Course I wasn't.

When I posted in the other thread, I did mention that I didn't know the history - I suppose this is the "other" thread that some had mentioned?
Again, I haven't delved into this kernels and mods, and I do agree mostly with what tlbardelljr had written - "stealing" is a very gray area here. Most of my own ROMs are just mash-ups of other people's work that I tried to make into something more usable for me, and possibly the community.
But, I usually try to give credit also. If I'm using pershoot's ROM, I document that. If I'm using gojimi's framework changes for Brilliant Corners, I give him a nod. If I'm using the Adam HC base for BoS, I give them a nod as well. It's not only good manners, but it's also part of the rules here. If you're going to take, you should give credit. It's not rocket science.
I am not saying that's what's going on here - I haven't looked into these allegations, myself. But jerdog had commented two days ago and I think his comment is not only valid but it's something that needs to be responded to by the OP. That would certainly answer the question and put this to rest.

I just recently moved into this part of the forum, trying to find my way around and I notice that there are no sticky's or wiki pages. I have a few questions that I want to ensure are answered with up-to-date information.
Yes I have searched. It's stupid having to include that qualifier but I know how some people are.
What are the differences between the touchnooter's - 1.1 (2.1.31) & 1.0 (1.6.24)? I can guess that they apply to specific software packages, but I do not like to guess with rooting.
I have software 1.0.0 and I see the update at B&N for 1.1.2 so should I upgrade first or does it matter?
Does the NST require themes that are monochromatic or specifically modified? Or will any launcher or configuration work?
Is there a known way to brick that I should be aware of?
I appreciate any help.

You should upgrade to 1.1.2 first, making updates breaks root, so do it before you start rooting.

Welcome to our little corner of the galaxy. Actually, there is a tiny but growing wiki:
Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch (NST) wiki
I am still experiencing occasional Sleep of Death issues with CM7.2-RC2. I thought this had been taken care in independent development before RC1; has the fix not been integrated into the CM7 repository yet?
Have other people been seeing this, too?

I has not been integrated into the repository for cm7. Look at my tips thread in my signature for a fix for cm7.
Hmm, I went to install the updated driver and found that it was already there. And now I see that it's in update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-encore-signed.zip:

This seems to be the same as the version in nookcolor_CWM-OC-SASDmod.rar.
Curious. Well, perhaps my unrelated reinstall yesterday will have fixed it...

I just had another SoD, so clearly that version doesn't fix the problem.
But I managed to download your zip from Megashares (earlier it said too many people had been downloading it), and it looks to be significantly different:
969596 Defl:N 396999 59% 11-10-2011 14:21 367e274d system/lib/modules/tiwlan_drv.ko
So I'll give this one a try. Thanks!
Ah, I think I see what's happening. In the SOD thread on cyanogenmod forums,
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/32316-sleep-of-death-debugging/
there were two SOD fixes posted: One was the modified wifi driver from Embedded that your post includes, and the other was a modified kernel from dalingrin that is used with the unmodified wifi driver. I think the SASDmod bundle includes the modified kernel, so it also includes the unmodified wifi driver. But when I saw the driver in there I assumed it was the one I wanted.
Anyway, hopefully Embedded's driver will do the trick. Thanks again.

That's all true. The modified kernel helped with SODs but did not eliminate them. You need the modded kernel module to totally get rid of them. It's ok to use them together.

Can I obtain all of the stock apk's that come with an unrooted NST? I want to see if I can run an NST environment on my CM7 NookColor. If I can get these apk's I will make a custom firmware for the NST.
And yes, I have an NST.

Download the latest firmware from B&N and pull the apk's from there. You also might want to join the NST CM7 thread.

Alright then. I'll be compiling this firmware if you need me!

You're not going to be able to get the unmodified Reader.apk or ReaderRMSDK.apk to run.
They use android.hardware.EpdController
You'll have to either stub in the class or modify the apk.
Alright. I read this message while I was having issues with them. Ill try to fix them manually. Thank you.

I successfully unzipped the firmware download on a windows machine, but I no longer have access to it. When I try to extract the files from the Zip on my mac, it cycles through zips and tar.gz's infinetly. When I try to extract it on my NC with rom toolbox, it says, "failed to extract tmp.zip"
Any suggestions?

After flashing (with CWM) what I would have posted as alpha-1 to test it, I am pleased to say that the Nook Simple Touch just sucks.
What happened:
I built the ROM entirely from Eclair source-code and the Nook's stock software. I flash the ROM to test it and BAM, bricked. I looked over what I had built again, and again, and EVERYTHING should have worked. (Yes, I checked superuser, etc.) Frustrated, I recompiled the majority of the firmware, and reflashed, after restoring to pure stock. This time, it boots to the Android Launcher, which is what I intended, but then, I click on The Android Market Icon, and it says: "Barnes & Noble permissions breach detected, factory resetting." It shuts down, boots up without resetting and then when booted says that Android Launcher, System UI, etc. Has crashed, reboots, factory resets (???), and then boots up to the Nook welcome screen. I skip OOBE, and factory reset once more.
Now, I am selling this useless Ereader, and will use the money to contribute to the purchase of a Nook HD, which now ships with Google play installed. With the Nook HD, I wont have to deal with this crap, because it is a TABLET unlike the Nook Simple Touch, which is and will always be, just a black and white Reader.

Hello Mineturtle33, as I wrote in the other thread,
First of all I want to really say you thanks for your efforts trying to port CM7 to our Nook Touchs...
I and more people like me appreciate very much your work, and we know the how useful would be updating our Nook Touch to Android 2.3 because every day more, developers cut support and compatibility for older Android versions like the our...
I known it's only a BW tablet, but I thinks that in its area is still the best, the only with maybe limited but support for apk, only missing with newer apps is the flaw.
So in name of mine and many people like me on this and the another forum I say to you: Please don't give up!
At the moment you seems the only with the knowledge that can reach it.
I will also be pleased also to make a symbolic offer of the 25$ if instead of sell your nook, you can just make some more try on it.
Count me also for beta-testing also if dangerous
You are our only hope

Thank you for your support. I just want to let you know, I will keep trying, though, release #1 will most likely be Android 2.1. When we make progress on porting CM7, I promise that I will do a 2.3 release. While thinking about what I will name this ROM it popped into my head, SnowMOD? (since it's white) Is that a good name? Anybody else have name ideas? I will make an official progress thread later. Don't worry about give ng me 25$. I don't really need it.
I can test the new custom rom once significant progress is made.
