Does anyone know if the Moto xoom will be flashable to boost mobile or metro or cricket like how the samsung tab is
Great question. I don't know the answer but the question is can any Verizon 3G work on Sprint/Metro(same company). You don't want Cricket. My quick look makes me think the odd's aren't great. But I think the EVO was fully ported to MetroPCS.. so maybe.
I don't think a verizon phone can work on sprint and vice versa. If metro works on sprints networks then a sprint phone could be flashed to work on it. It has to do with the wireless technology in the device. Plus, even if it was the same, I doubt sprint would activate it.
Sent from my EVO using XDA App
I doubt it honestly
My research showed that in some markets Metro has a program in place for reprogramming Sprint and Verizon phones for use on their network. However, I suspect they won't do it for a product like the XOOM.
I hope that someone figures it out. I am partially hopeful, I just bought a 11,000mAh battery for my EVO so that I can tether for hours at a time. Testing it right now with everything turned on, streaming tversity video to the phone for hours and barely drained the external 30%.
I'm honestly fairly ignorant on the matter so if I sound stupid give me a pass..
But..
If the hardware could do it, isn't it 'just' a matter of which 'radio firmware' is being used? (with regards to porting to a different carrier)
Motorola Xoom
Hey everyone, hows it going. First I would like to thank everyone here for all your hard work on these new android devices and helping people like me figure out problems to how to get these devices working.
I just got back from the store where I picked up the new motorola xoom. I've noticed that its on verizons service, but would like to know if anyone can point me to the proper direction as to how I can get this device working on crickets network.
I have a droid x, droid 3 all working on cricket data, mms and all working. next task is to get this xoom working on crickets data... any idea's as to where I can start off...
I'm not finding any informaiton about this device at all for flashing. I found someone who claims that they can root there xoom, ... its a start, but not really wanting to do that without consulting the professionals first.
please note that this is not my first go around with custom roms or rooted gingerbread roms. also please note that I'm aware this rom is the hunnycomb rom.
any help is much appreciated .... sorry about the spelling and thanks for all your help in advanced.

If by the new Xoom you mean the XYboard, it is not yet rootable. The original Xoom is rootable and has a number of awesome roms and overclocking kernels. Take a look around the forum and you will see many wonderful things. I'm sorry that I can't help you with getting your Xoom to run on the cricket network...

I must have the original then, I just got finished rooting the xoom. I do have a Sim slot that has a clear card in in, just in front of the microSD slot that says "replace with 4G card after system update"
So seeing as how I got this tablet rooted.... lets see if I can get it working with data, .... any help is appreciated
Here are baseband updates created for the Milestone XT720 from the various sbf's I've collected:
Code:
Canada-Wind STR_U2_05.1F.2_GAS_NA_NAWIND_P012 (s7icky's nandroid--no known sbf)
CentralEurope STR_U2_01.1E.0_GAS_EMEA_UCASHOTBRTLRTCEE_P001
France STR_U2_02.1E.0_GAS_EMEA_UCASHOTBRTLRTFR_P018
GreatBritain STR_U2_01.1E.0_GAS_EMEA_UCASHOTBRTLRTGB_P021
Italy STR_U2_02.1E.0_GAS_EMEA_USASHOTBRTLRTIT_P001
Korea STSKT_N_79.33.50R/GAS_ASIA_SHOTSKT_P006/GAS_ASIA_SHOTSKT_P006
Russia STR_U2_03.20.1_GAS_ASIA_USASHLSTBRTRU_P012
Singapore STR_U2_01.1E.2_GAS_ASIA_USASHLSTBSTARSG_P019
US-BrightPoint STR_U2_04.1E.1_GAS_NA_NAREG_P011
US-CincinnatiBell STR_U2_04.1E.1_GAS_NA_NACBW_P011
I also included a baseband update built from the baseband files in Dexter's 1.3.
The forum only allows 8 attachements/post so this will continue into the next post. At this point only US-CincinnatiBell has been tested, so making a nandroid of /system is recommended in case the update rains on your parade.
To apply:
Place in /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
OR > Apply Update > select baseband
Reboot

Well, I don't completely understand the baseband, but my understanding is these files configure the software that runs on the cellular radio chip (i.e. what frequencies to use for 3G etc) and I think they also configure the emergency numbers. I'm not entirely sure what the libril-moto-umts-1.so does but Dexter included it in some of the A853 basebands and it seems to have something to do with communicating with either the GSM network or the GSM hardware. Different regions did seem to have different libril's but I don't know if that's just because of newer builds or what. Wind's was different from the other North America ones. Incidentally Canada seems to have the newest kernel by compile date: August 16 and you're at build level 1F (although Russia is at 20). Too bad we don't have an sbf...
I don't know if it will fix your SMS issues. For me, it seems to have fixed a serious power drain that I was experiencing on an unreleased CM6.3 build.

cafc920346704769b25b3cb01e9114fb ./europe/system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default/File_Seem_Flex_Tables
and just want to share my 2 cents...
there is directory /data/bp_nvm
it is pretty much like the /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default
which is normal, because the /data/bp_nvm is generated on the phone, based on the "default" directory...
but
some of the files are different. I cannot check at the moment which , but i am pretty sure for the File_GSM one.
actually as our phones are 4 bands, i think the baseband topic is may be overreacted.
as i look at the comparision may be except wind (which is very different from the others).
but anyway when changing the baseband may be it will be good idea to delete the /data/bp_nvm (so to make sure it will be regenerated)
I am not sure, why the /data/bp_nvm exists. May be they are some "compiled" configuration or settings in the files. may be the files in /data/bp_nvm are "self recovering" from something... but it will be very interesting to compare them too (may be at 2 stages, 1st just after regenerating them, and 2nd after some time....)
I was wondering that, too. My current guess is that the bp_nvm_default is the initial /data/bp_nvm (or perhaps the version that gets used when a carrier can't be connected) but that it can probably be updated by the network and that may be what's in /data/bp_nvm. That's a good idea to keep an eye on them... I'll do that too.
I can't quite figure out Dexter's version. It seems to merge a bunch of them, but I don't know if that was intentional or if he just copied files there without deleting the old versions. Dexter seems to know a lot about basebands (he created the A853 ones), so that's why I also made his version.
Would any work for Motoroi?

I would like to know if you do get a hold of it. I will try my hand at acquiring a copy too, I know some people who work at WIND.
On a side note, my memory recalls that the WIND SBF kernel undervolted the phone slightly compared to the Brightpoint SBF that I later flashed (and am still using). It would be cool to compare...again if we get a hold of it.

Will this help signal strength or is it more-so a 3g fix? My wife and I can sit right next to each other and she'll get a signal and I will barely be able to 1edge bar.
Same phone, but hers is stock 2.1 with app2sd whereas mine is more like a Franken-Rom.

I think it might. My signal seems stronger, but unfortunately I didn't pay close attention except for the power drain. Low signal and power drain probably go hand in hand, but that's just speculation because I didn't measure it.
Ok, I'll give it a whirl when I get home. If I wanted to check and see if it gets stronger, how should I do that, obviously other than bars.
Also is this a one time thing and it'll just carry through my backups or will it have to be re-updated with each "fresh" ROM test?

It changes files on /system, so you'll have to do it each time you install a new ROM or flash a nandroid that doesn't have the baseband update installed. Stay tuned.

I figured as much but someone had to ask. Next are you going to tell me to wear a tin foil coned hat on my head, face north on one foot and turn counter-clockwise?
I'll check stregth before and after and post later on tonight or tomorrow.

Maybe. I think there's a very good chance, but I can't test it. These baseband updates only change files in /system so if you make a nandroid of system before you apply it, you should be able to undo it.
Or are you asking for a Korean baseband update? I forgot that one.
Edit: added a baseband update based on the Korean 50R to the second post.
Since we are a global community with different languages it helps if we can make things a little easier for everyone. In short we may all need a different modem for our region that is different than what you provide in your ROM.
Can you please include this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
I was having a hard time finding the proper modem/radio.
Something changed and my phone would not get past 2 bars, it started to lose and drop the signal. I replaced the SIM card, same problem.
I found the list of modems and tried KG3 and now I am back to FULL bars.
I am running TeanNyx RC5 ICS 4.0.4
That means not ,that anyone else staying at an other place than you, has the same improvements
Maybe include where you're living so people living near you, can change their Modem

Hello all,
I have an XT907, bootloader unlocked, running CM11 very well. I am planning to go to London for a week in February, and I would like to buy a micro sim to use while I am there. I have scoured the threads trying to make sense of the international/micro-sim situation, and I am totally lost. Here's what I need to know:
Can I take my phone to London, pop out my Verizon micro-sim, pop in an O2 sim and use it without making any other changes? (I did this a couple of years ago with a jail-broken iPhone and it worked beautifully...)
Sub-questions, which can be ignored if the simple answer is "yes": do I need to call Verizon to get them to unlock the phone?
Are there GSM issues, which I tend to ignore, since my carrier is Verizon, and, if there are, have they been patched in this rom?
Thanks in advance. Hoping somebody can answer.

This may take care of all your needs. Use cwmr 6046 or philz 6079 only. Backup your current rom before doing anything.
Keep in mind that even these recoveries do not save all your partitions. Some partitions are only on your phone. /persist, /modem & /firmware are the most important ones NOT saved! Try it out. If you do not want to delve into RSD lite & PC only hacking, stop. All you need to restore our latest xml via RSD is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391641
Go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246081
Subsitute the op's twrp bu: http://yadi.sk/d/oufUHo_F4Ehfh for Avst_ZaYAC_MODsmXBIN.cwmr.zip
You will restore it rather than install it.
And fit it into my other steps in Post 17
Using philz v 6097 cwmr, which will restore twrp format too.
I cannot recommend twrp anymore.
You will have full vzw 4g & I think the star of the setup, the droid razr widget should not break your 4g. more on DRW here You may need FireFox to get the translate link to work.
Do test it all out & save it w/ philz.
Messing with the "select radio band" (3 dot menu) with the hidden app "phone info" [also known as *#*#4636#*#* from the dialer] will break 4g /modem & result in 3g to 1x only. Feel free to do anything else from Phone Info.
Once a combination of partitions are broken RSD is the only fix.
Just restore to the ...94 xml and then the partitions not handled by our recoveries, get fixed and a restore via philz puts all right again [some from RSD & most from the recovery].
Latest Philz zip http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition

Wow. Thank you SO much for the detailed reply.
Unfortunately, all of this sounds very complicated to me-- I have never messed around with radios/modems, and really love the way my phone works, here, now, in the United States.
I take it that your one word answer is, "no, your phone will not work if you bring it to Europe and pop in a sim..."?
If so, given that I am only going once, for six days, I might just pull out that old iPhone and limp along with that.
Again, I am so grateful for the time you took to point me in the right direction. Sorry to be such a wimp.

Me and My GF just traveled through England over Xmas
My phone was on 4.4 by Dhacker Everything Worked up to 3G (Using Tmobile US, Tombile DE and NetzClub (O2))
My GF phone was on Latest Stock Everything Worked up to H+ (O2 and Tmobile DE) <--- But we had to do a GSM so it stopped Dropping Comnnecting.

I think this could be good news. I'm using CM11 nightly, which I think is not that different from Dhacker. All you did was pop in the microsim?
I really don't want to wreck my current phone, which works, just to get a few days of better phone service on vacation.

I will search for tutorials about flashing that baseband-- is it a simple enough process? Will it affect how my phone works on Verizon when I return?
Also, for others trying to figure this stuff out, I found this: http://www.internauta37.altervista.org/how-and-patch-fully-enable-gsm-verizon-cdma-phones-android by one of the XDA members which is not exactly a "for dummies" tutorial but does begin to outline the issues.

She Gained that baseband by downloading the Stock Rom with that Baseband.
I have to get back to my home computer to get that link.
Its a Dev Site where u can download all the Stock roms for our Phone.
Oh my gosh!! I have that baseband already. Phew! One less thing on my "to do" list.
Okay, last question, I promise. I have read, and think I understand, the blog tutorial about enabling GSM. But it sounds from your post like I do not have to edit my build.prop at all, if I am running CM11 and have the baseband you mentioned. I apologize for repeating my question again and again, but I am a little slow.

But it sounds from your post like I do not have to edit my build.prop at all, if I am running CM11 and have the baseband you mentioned. I apologize for repeating my question again and again, but I am a little slow.

In this Particular case you don't need to do that.
Enabeling GSM and Editing Build Prop is Mainly for Tmobile USA and AT&T or any USA GSM carrier.
But on some CM11 it may be required since it was not made for GSM, most newer ones are though.
That's where u look for the GSM Fix thing.
The only thing you May have to hunt down are the info for Data if it doesn't Auto install itself from the Euro SIM.
International SIM normally Require a PIN and it will Auto install a SIM app to correct its Data Settings.
Thanks! Based on your helpful clarification I will leave it alone.

I have two *Australian* Defys, I believe (but can't prove) that they were unlocked when I got them.
I was asked to cyanogise them for a mate, and now I've "broken" my mate's phones.
Telstra say that neither phone is locked with them.
I installed the top download from here:
download cyanogenmod org /?type=stable&device=jordan
And the phones can't be used, they want a carrier subsidy unlock!
I'm told that CM-jordan doesn't support CDMA, and so that's why it keeps asking for a carrier unlock PIN; it can't handle the radio hardware properly.
I'm also told that there is no CyanogenMod that's ever going to work with a CDMA defy, because there isn't support for the hardware.
How can I get the phones to work, ever again? What SBF can I put in there with RSD Lite that has a hope of working?
Most of the links from existing posts here appear to be long dead, btw.
Thanks in advance, hoping someone can help me!

There is a CDMA Defy? I thought Motorola Defy is a GSM phone only.
Well, I was informed on IRC that it's a CDMA phone, so let's ignore that and assume that it isn't.
I know it's an MB525.
I have two of these, both reckon they want a carrier unlock PIN, but both were unlocked when I started -- that's why I think that it's an error, not a "real" lock.
What I don't know is what to do about it!
One useful path might be to get some decent SBFs for the phones, the set I have is a motoblur one, I reckon if I can find a more recent non-blur SBF; or any sbf where we are confident that the radio support is right, then I'd have a hope of some kind of phone access, because at the moment they are like really tiny wifi tablets....
I think you should search for JRDNEM_U3_2.26.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNEMARAB1B5TEL02A.0R_USAJORDANTELSTRA_P033_A017_M008_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz

Thanks so much for replying -- the problem I have is that the file you recommend is just not available. The links behind that list give me a "403 Forbidden" result from the server, can anyone else get content from sbf droid-developers org/umts_jordan/JRDNEM_U3_2.26.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNEMARAB1B5TEL02A.0R_USAJORDANTELSTRA_P033_A017_M008_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz
For me the whole sbf.droid-developers.org domain is out of reach.
I spent some time on FTP search engines and so on but came up short. I guess the next logical step is to contact the owners of droid-developers.org, but if they've done this on purpose then it's unlikely to help me.
Is it supposed to be down?
droid-developers.org is down for more than a year, I only gave you the link to know what to look for. You should search the forum for someone who had used JRDNEM_U3_2.26.0, maybe they can share it.
ok thanks.
