I have tried some apps but they only let you add individual entries, while I have a file with thousands of entries that I need. My device is unlocked and rooted but using the secure stock rom. I tried pushing the file with the N7 toolkit but that needs a custom insecure rom to work.
Any suggestions for ways to replace the hosts file that don't involve flashing a new rom?
Thanks.

Hello,
(My rom is based on stock "Acer_A500_0.000.00_4.010.42_EMEA_GEN3")
I have been building a custom rom for the A500. Everything has been going well. I removed most of the bloatware and added more features, but I have an issue that I have been unable to resolve.
When the custom rom(and the original stock) is flashed on the A500 there are several apps that are extracted to following folder. (On the device itself)
/system/vendor/app/
APKInstaller.apk
CheckerLunch.apk
FixWifi.apk
KoboAcer.apk
xt9.apk
While most these apps are OK, I want to remove KoboAcer.apk from the rom. But when looking for KoboAcer.apk at "\update\system\vendor\"inside the rom, its not there.
There is no app folder inside the vendor folder, just a dummy file inside the vendor folder called fake.txt
So my question is…
How do I remove KoboAcer.apk from the rom file?(No, I do not want to manually remove apps from the device after the flash).
Where is KoboAcer.apk being installed/extracted from during the flash process?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!
OK, I found KoboAcer.apk’s location, but I still don’t know how to remove it. By analyzing a backup of the ROM, I discovered that KoboAcer.apk is located in the flexrom (flexrom.img). My problem, is that I don’t know how to unpack flexrom.img and repack it without KoboAcer.apk
Could a ROM developers help me? I am stuck with the flexrom and I can’t find a tutorial/post.
Thanks!
Try to remove if using Titanium Backup.
i am very much concerned about using perfect things, i used alot of different ROMS both with .32 and .35 kernel, none was perfect even all the stock ROMs available does have something to hate about,
my question is Cant we manually edit Stock ROMs (Update.APP) and Custom ROMs and select few important and better apps and replace with unwanted apps in roms?
in this way we can manage to create a new ROM as per our requirements....
Can't do it with stock roms unless you install, root, delete apps from /system/app.
With custom rom, just use 7-zip in windows to open zip file and delete apps you don't want from /system/app and /data if it is there. Copy your own apps in and then install.
There is a perl script to extract system.img from update.app, but i dont think there is a way to pack again
hi everyone, i wouls indeed appreciate some help here as i may have screwed up my phone for good now...i had the Legend rom installed on my i9500 with the Perseus kernel. I used a build.prop editor and edited the resolution field from 480 to 720..now when my phone restarted i cant get access to the build.prop editor to change it back and the touchwiz keeps crashing. I cannot get access to load my rom's zip file on my sdcard to flash via cwm recovery..my question is, can i flash my rom's zip file and the kernel via sideloading?
Previously I have rooted primarily in order to use adaway and to alter my build.prop file to enable tethering on cricket. I've now realized I can accomplish those things without root by simply flashing a build.prop file and hosts file. I tested, at least, the hosts file portion using MoaAB - but their list is a bit...ehrm... overzealous. So I want to make my own based on adaway.
I've also included an altered build.prop that includes the net.tethering.noprovisioning=true line to enable tethering.
Problem is - my zip doesn't seem to work when flashed from TWRP. I says it completed successfully but upon boot - no tethering, and still tons of ads. I'm wondering if you kind folks can help me get this working.
My non-working zip file is attached, containing the files in question.
Thanks!
Hey!
I really want to make a custom rom, a heavily debloated stock rom. At this stage I am not thinking about adding customization or anything just debloat the stock rom as much as possible, recompile it, and flash it!
I've searched everywhere on how to do this but have not found any relevant information.
COULD SOMEONE PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?!?!?!
I have tried using sgs2toext4.jar to convert img.ex4 files from I9506 stock firmware and the mounting it in Linux Internals.
This does not work, as Internals does not show any files (0.00 bytes) even though the converted img.ext4.img file shows over 2.5gb in windows explorer.
How can I do this, what kind of tools do you DEVs use to extract, modify and finally repack it to a tar.md5 or flashable zip?
I am grateful for any response!
EDIT: Currently using windows 7 x64, I have access to a Linux/ubuntu if that is necessary. Also the device in question is I9506.
