hi!
in order to test something, i need to replace the build.prop in root/system with a modified one. but trying to delete this file with astro manager displays an error message, and just copying the modified build.prop over the old one doesn't work too (nothing happens).
so my question is: how do you replace such a file?
thanks in advance for your help
are you serious!?!?!?
If the build.prop is located on the Android folder IT HAS TO BE A SYSTEM FILE !!!
if you mod the system files you could break android or the system just won't let you do it, you will need R and W privileges to do that.
edit the system files from your PC or just boot up in to windows mobile.
use some common scene next time.
hope it helps!

Do you use a cyanogen build?
yes and there is already a cyanogen rom posted with the proper build.prop fixed, so you won't have to edit anything, just search for it.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
mmmh actually cyanogen made things easy to replace a system file, just copy your file into sdcard/android/root/system and reboot.
thanks for your help / posts. but unfortunately they're not helpful.
yes, i am serious! and yes, of course it's a system file. i know as well that modification might brick android.
there are reasons for modifying this file. some people seem to be able to, e.g. for chaning screen point density or modify the data passthrough.
so, please tell me, how can i edit/modify a system file from pc or windows mobile when its within the data.img-file?
thanks for any tips / hints on this.
use root explorer

Thank you VERY much for your help - I finally got it to work by listening your instructions. It is simply different if you have HD2 and plus CM mod. That figures why it was going back all the time to 180 instead of changing it - because it runs from sd card and that's where it needs to be replaced as well ...
Droid Explorer
hello,i am trying to copy a file that i got from another build and overwrite the same file found in this directory " system/lib " but i keep getting an error message saying " there was not enough free disk space to complete the paste operation ", i tried to delete the original file then paste the new one but i get the same error message, i am using Root explorer to do this, it shows (216.45MB used, 1.07MB free, r/w ) on the " system/lib " folder, is there anyway for me to copy that file to this directory because i really need to, thank you
p.s: i used to do the same thing with other android builds but after switching to darkstone froyo v2 i started having this problem, and i need this file to get the arabic letters on my device to appear connected and not separated, any help is appreciated, thanks again

Yes the bcm4329.ko file is broken, the only way is to flash a new bcm4329.ko back to system/lib/modules..
You will need to root and install root explorer from the market which is £2.50 I think..
This will fix your wifi....have you been messing with flashing kernels for this to give an error??
no this is what i do not understand on my HD2 i expect some stuff not to work as i change things that offten. but i have not done a thing with is phone is that the only way to pay out

There is another way where you don't have to pay yes...
You need to know what you are doing though so I wouldn't recommend it .you will need..
Root
S OFF
Android ASK
Fastboot.exe
You can brick your phone if you do things wrong...the first method I gave you is very safe.

OK...download the 0.07 file from here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835616
Dont worry about all the overclocking stuff....we just need the module..
Extract the zip file to your pc...
Ignore the zimage (thats not needed in your case)
Its the bcm4329.ko file that your after..
Let me know when this is done on the thread..
i have the extracted files

Ok..If this is a problem with the wifi module then this will work, if not you problem lies else where..
You only need the bcm4329.ko file (you dont need the zimage, thats an oc kernel)
So put the bcm4329.ko onto your sdcard via usb on pc (dont put it in a folder, put it straight in the sdcard)
Open root explorer and scoll down to sdcard folder and tap it
H ightlight and long press on the bcm4329.ko. file to bring options menu up and press "move"
Use back button on the phone to go out of folders, go to the main folders(where you found the sdcard folder)
scoll to bottom to "system" folder press it
scroll down a little bit to find "lib" folder press it
scroll to the bottom to find "modules" folder press it
Now top right corner or screen press mount to put root explore
into read write (R/W) now press paste, it sould say do you want to replace
bcm4329.ko file press yes
now long press on bcm4329.ko to bring options menu, press permissions
tick all the boxes and press ok
Exit root explorer and reboot the phone.
You now have a new working wifi module...
Im pretty sure that should of now fixed your problem....go into settings....wireless & network and turn on wifi --hopefully the error will be gone ...
Please let me know !!
i have done all what you have said and tryed a second time still not working any other ideas

Yes it was the right file...strange things are happening with your DHD..
EDIT - I even killed my Wifi by deleting the file...got the error...replaced with bcm4329.ko using root explorer and its now fine again..
ALSO You would have none if it was the right file as it would have been the same as the broken one when you pressed paste...it should of asked you if you wanted to replace it because it already exists...in system/lib/modules
Ok you need to do S 0FF and then install clockwork mod then you can flash a custom rom..
Ignore some of the steps in this link....you just want to do s 0ff..
you need the DHD.ZIP file and the terminal from the market..
heres the link..

Hello fellow S4 owners. Quick question, since this phone is a tad bit different from my Evo Design. I noticed on the S3 and S4 that most files are set by default to save to the phone's memory. I've rooted my S4 and backed up my data with Clockworkmod and now I can't find where it's saving these backups to lol! Just bought the phone 2 days ago and out of 16GB, I only have 1GB of free space left and want to transfer them to my SD.
Even when I go to Astro/Root Explorer, still can't find them on the phone or SD card, yet when I choose the "restore" option through my recovery, it knows where they are and displays them. Thanks in advance!
Well me I like using solid explore from the play store you have a trail .there you should be able to file any folder hit settings go to file and check hiden file then restart app you should see any folder thats hide if it hide it self . But I do believe it didnt and you just might need to check with anither file manger . And I havent rooted it yet I usually wait about two weeks to root my phone only cause I want to see what my phone could do with out root .
I will tonight if you havent found it byvthen let me know I'll more then will to help .

just an FYI, the only thing I've been able to do as far as freeing up space is delete the backups from the phone's memory. there was an option to delete in recovery which is pretty nifty. now all of my phone's memory is cleared and I backed up my ROM again to the SD.

If your absolutely positive that you only need to delete 2 files within the .tar (although I dont see why this would be) I can help you. Right click the .tar file, extract it, delete the two files that you are talking about, re-select all the files that need to go back into a tar, right click, and create archive. Be sure that the archive you create is .tar format.
Use the program 7zip if you don't already have a similar program
Remember, Its very possible that this "fix" your mentioning could lead to a major problem.
Only take action if you know exactly what you are doing. I take no responsibility for your phone being bricked
Still no joy with getting my S4 to boot please someone must know how to get it to boot again iv tried everything i know how to do. Maybe a dev can help me i would be very grateful
Unpacking the tar on windows then recreating it will mess up the permissions stored inside. Rather, use the tar command. If you're on windows, then install cygwin.
Take a look on the tar manual (look for the --delete option, paragraph 4.2.5)

Cygwin is an Unix-like environment inside windows. It maps windows paths to Unix paths. By default, your path would map to /cygdrive/c/Users/shane/Desktop/987
