Hi
I noticed this two times now and sadly I did not make a photo of it. I will try to describe it:
The phone is in standby, I press the power button and the display stays black. Over 10 seconds, the black slowly faded to a sort of gray blur. It somehow looked like a can of white wall paint was spilled over the black display. Another buttonpress turned it off again and then it worked normal again. So the phone was still working in the background, not crashed. This also happened one time while I booted the phone, right at the google logo.
What is this?? Is it a defect, or just software bug??
Thanks!

Flash the stock Nexus 4 image, and if it still happens, get an RMA
I can do that, although I am still on stock and unrooted. Only applied ota 4.2.1 update. But I will give it a try!
edit: found two people on german forum who also witnessed this! so more possibly a software problem?
edit2: Got RMA

Well its happened... after 1 and a 1/2 years of keeping my m3100 safe and sound I dropped it. Fortunately the cosmetic condition is still good. Unfortunately its started to give me a 'white screen of death'. Has anyone else encountered this?
What happens... I turn on the phone and go about using it normally and then after about 10 mins the screen slowly turns white. If I press the power button on and off a couple of times it clears and I can see again. The OS / phone functionality is fine and keeps running. Along with the white screen the buttons on the front freeze at the same time.
Its all leading me to think that something in the screen part of the Hermes has come loose or been damaged?
Help anyone?

Thanks for redirecting me. I got it sorted and will post the fix at the end of the linked post.
Hi all, I've been testing some roms, and finally found one I like nfsans 6.5. Recently while I was tethering my sprint touch, i had the phone sitting in the window seal for better reception and it was really sunny and warm, my phones screen started rolling by itself and there was nothing I could do. I did a soft reset then the phone would have a white screen. It boots up because the green light is flashing, but it's still a white screen. I can receive phone calls, and if I knew where stuff was on the screen, the screen is still responsive to touches, but it's just white. I tried hard reset, bootloader mode, and taking the battery out and nothing still white screen. I put the battery in the freezer for about 15mins, then put it back in the phone and it boots up and the screen is normal for about 10-15 mins then the screen starts flickering or rolling then it turns white. I took the battery out and stuck the phone in my cool basement for about 30 mins, then put battery in then it does the same thing, it works for about 15 mins then rolling screen then white. Please any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, so your battery gets hot - but have you taken the battery out and ran the phone on a different battery?
It may be heat from the battery causing issues although it would have to be really hot to do so I think or perhaps in your window the sun could have baked something on your phone directly and after the device runs for a while it blanks out the screen
I read through your posts regarding this as well on PPCGeeks - looking for a different answer? Dont think your going to get much of one other than you already got from over there its most likely a hardware issue just how and what is the hard part to determine across the net

Thanks, but I don't think I have a thread over there. Looks like I'll have to use my squaretrade warranty with this thing.
ok i am going to bring this back into the light to see if there have been any resolutions. i just flashed to v13 of NSFAN's and just started having the white screen. however mine is not really hot at all. neither battery or phone. i figured i had a bad flash so i have tried to reflash a few other times and i still get it. no ryme or reason i even tried flashing back to v12 since i never had a problem and right off the bat, white screen. i think i will post in the mega nsfan's mega thread as well just to maybe get a few more eyes on it.
I was in my classes today, and i went to unlock my G1, and as i did, i saw that the colors of the screen were messed up. This meaning that, there were four to five white/grey pixelated bars separating the screen, and when i went to pull up the menu, the screen experiences what seemed to be a great amount of lag, and the white and grey bars seemed ti fill up more of the screen. When i boot up the phone, it is followed by just a black screen where the G1 should be, and when the android logo comes up, from the latest cyan, its all chopped up.
once the phone rebooted i went to slide the screen up to horizontal mode, and it was clear, and perfectly fine, but after i closed it once more, the screen just stayed black. i took out the battery and rebooted, and the same things happened again.
any idea what happened? is the a solution? should i buy a new phone?
like always, any help is appreciated
Sounds like it needs a wipe. You have something running in the background it sounds like
I gave a NookColor to my oldest son 1 year ago, which was rooted & had CyanogenMod7 on it. The other day he said he was booting it & he pushed some buttons while it booted & when he did the screen turned green. It has never been dropped & he has never had a problem with it before this. You can see the icons, fonts & it still functions properly in all other respects...the screen is just green. The screen is also green during the CyanogenMod startup screen, then it goes black, then is green again during the CyanogenMod boot animation. I can tell that the screen is working normal, as it is lit up & black when it is switching between the boot screens.
I have spent many hours searching the net & cannot find this problem ever happening before. How can I change the background back to normal? Is this a hardware or firmware problem??? I have taken it apart & unplugged & reseated the video connector, just to be sure that that wasn't the issue & I've tried putting different Roms on it, including the new CyanogenMod10 for NookColor & it still has a green screen. I even restored it back to Stock & the screen looks almost normal, but when I played the Introduction video, the video doesn't look like the colors are right or something.
Does anyone know how to fix this or if it is even fixable?
Someone...PLEASE help!
Thanks!
Similar Problem here, except half of screen is green.

I have a similar problem, except only half of my screen is green. The half that is green remains in the same place, regardless of orientation, so I am guessing this is a hardware problem.

My experience is similar, except obviously I have half a screen of odd looking video and half normal. I also tried reverting to the stock rom, but with no success. Fortunately when reading books, i.e. just black text on a white background, the effect is not very noticeable, so the NC is currently back to being an ebook reader.
Still I'd love to know how to fix it. I see powerbookmedic (I have no connection to, or experience of, them) sells used parts for the NC, but is this a display problem, which seems likely, or a logic board problem? Buying both would be more than the whole thing is worth.
Hello, i recently bought a mi mix 3 5g in quite good physical condition. But since the first time I turned it on it have been behaving really strangely with updating the screen. To start with if I start it from being completely powered of i usually get themixlogo so the normal splash screen, but after that i get maybe one or 2 pictures of first the colourful 5g logo and then maybe one picture of the text that says Miui. After that it may sometimes get kind of stuck on that untill the screen timer runs out or untill i click the power button. After that if i turn it on it sometimes get a picture of the lock screen or it stays completely black, it depends a little. But either away even though the screen does not update the touch still works as it should, i did manage to activate USB debugging and with that i could share the screen over to my computer and there it works just as it should, it runs as smoothly as it should. So I was thinking is there anyone here who have experienced a similar issue or have any idea what could be the problem and how to fix it?

Found the problem. It was a physical problem with the display. I fixed it by installing a new screen
