Convert to i9500?

A friend of mine got a Sprint S4 but he wishes to use it with a GSM Carrier.
First couple things I noted are:
1) No SIM Card Contact Management, had to use an App to copy all to phone
2) Cannot find GSM APN settings to manually enter
Is it possible to flash a stock International i9500 ROM over this to alleviate the issues with using a mainly CDMA version?

I do not believe you can flash an international ROM to this phone unless you want a pretty paperweight. But there are some tutorials to unlock your SIM to be able to use on other carriers, here is where I'd start. However if he's on a Knox bootloader I think the chance is next to zero for using it on GSM because you have to 'go back' to MDC to do some required stuff.
If he wanted to use a gs4 on a GSM network he should have gotten a GSM version not a CDMA

It is actually already unlocked as he can use Voice etc just a bit tricky to get the APN settings to work for 3G...

Quarx CM11 Defy doesn't boot with India Airtel 4G SIM

I have the latest Quarx CM11 ROM in this device. I had India Airtel 2G sim previously in this device and it used to work without any issues.
After I was forced to replace my 2G sim with 4g sim, the device is not booting up. Booting animation is very very slow and the device will never come back.
If I remove the sim, the device boots up normally. Even it works perfectly fine if I put some other 2G sim.
I tried to change the baseband after removing the sim from the device. I chose south east asia 343_331. Still the device doesn't boot up if i put back the Airtel 4G SIM.
can anyone help me with the issue? thanks

Same thing happened here, have u found any solution, Airtel 4g sim even work with basic phones, but not in Defy. Since Airtel sim is 128k it has more memory than 64k sim, this is the problem and it is not the bug of Rom because slow boot happened in Stock Rom too.

Sorry I didn't see your response. I have not yet found any solution. I am not using this device as it is not supporting any new SIMs. Even I will be interested to know if any solution exists. Probably ROM developer should be able to provide solution. Hope to get some ROM developer's attention to get solution.

Sharp 305sh Japanese root version - no simcard issue

Hi
I bought Sharp 305sh rooted and unlocked.
It worked perfect in Europe until I left to USA.
In USA I couldn't use it with local simcard and I am afraid I make some changes in HiAPN App.
Now I am back in EU and I have no signal / no simcard info in the phone.
I did factory reset , but the problem remains.
Can someone help me with this issue?
I am trying to figure out what actually happen.
How can I check if my phone is still unlocked? Rooted? And what could I have done to lose the sim card recognition ?
thanks for any help
Hello, can you share about how to root 305h?

Need help with Bootloader

I installed the RR (7.1.2) ROM and followed this guide ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-nougat-holy-grail-hlte-rock-stable-t3630301 ) to the T, but I have a SM-900p... this guide is for the N9005 international. Everything works great other than the activation for my cellular. IMEI is still there and when I try to run the bootloader provided in the guide it fails. If anyone could point me in the right direction that'd be greatly appreciated! Hats off to svbarbosa for the detailed guide!
EDIT: I believe its a boatloader (modem?) issue, anybody who has another opinion please bring it forward. I just wanna be able to use my phone as a phone lol
EDIT 2: Just removed my SIM and my service is back! I can make/receive all calls and data WITHOUT SIM installed.. With it installed I lose it. Any clue as to why?
Is Sprint your carrier? Sprint uses CDMA, not sim cards. The sim slot there is to enable roaming outside the USA.
Yes, Sprint is my carrier and I've had this phone since it came out with the SIM card in it. Up until this morning that's how I've been receiving service.

Using the AT&T H910 outside of the US. Does that mean I will never get any update?

I heard that an active AT&T sim card is required for software or system update. Is it possible that I buy an AT&T prepaid sim card from ebay and use it solely for system update outside of the US?
Yes. As long as you are on an AT&T network. Roaming on another provider will not work. You have to have an AT&T SIM *AND* be on the AT&T network.
The other very LONG way, is to root your phone, and then flash the latest firmware. If you don't want to stay rooted, then you can flash the latest full stock firmware which will take you back to stock.

I have this issue as well, unlocked AT&T version on Cricket, I bought a GoPhone SIM hoping that just putting it in the phone would work, but it needs to be active.
Okay thanks for your replies. I guess there is nothing more I can do about it then.
