I'm new in XDA2i here just bought it a few days, now i found out that i can connect with wifi but when i open the ie and key in the url it'll automatic change to GPRS for net browsing.
Is there any setting for wifi that I must set?
have search for a lot of setting in my xdaIIi but still have this same problem.
Need help please.
Best regards.
In network Management
(settings/connections/connections or tap settings on the drop down when hit connection icon, then advanced at the bottom and select networks)
In here ensure both boxes has My Work Network selected.
worked for me,
it will need the top one putting back to GPRS when you wish to make a connection through GPRS
How to use WiFi
Make sure u r going through the procedure.
1. Your WiFi capable device must be in the range of a Wireless Router (internet connected).
2. I assume that ur Wireless Router is set on security (allready set to allow specific users).
3. Every WiFi device has got an unique ID called MAC address, so your phone has also got a MAC address e.g: 00:09:2D:1F:34:E3. U have to go into the Wireless Router settings to enable ur WiFi phone.
4. Go into your Wireless Router settings (u need router's login ID & password to login) and add a device, give it ur phone's MAC address (Point 5) and a name (e.g. My XDA), Apply->Save->Logout. If ur Wireless router is security enabled then there must be a password called "WEP Key" e.g. "AE4ED24C54", now write it down to put it in your Phone to login to the Wireless Router to use the WiFi internet.
5. Find your phone's MAC address at: "Start->Settings->Connections(tab)->WLAN->(in the status: Not connected to network) click the bottom left Green button->click WLAN button(it will turn green from red)->ok->in the MAC: would be ur device MAC address(e.g: 00:09:2D:1F:34:E3). (write down on a piece of paper for the router settings).
6. As your phone is already "WiFi switched on" in point 5, it should detect ur Wireless Router once u finish point 4.
7. Phone will detect & show the name of ur Wireless Router, select it, it will ask for the Password now (WEP Key), enter the Wep Key and here u go.
8. Now ur Today screen Top "G" icon should change (antenna type icon) and show ur decice as connected in few seconds, u can switch it off by clicking that icon and click "Turn OFF WiFi" on the popup, you can switch it back on by: Start->Program->Wireless Manager->WiFi icon.
This explaination is only for WiFi enabled devices.
Tell me via email if u got stuck somewhere.
 GoodLuck

Hi guys,
I've got a netopia router (Irish "eircom" broadband) and while normal internet connections via laptop or PC (with USB Wifi dongle) work fine I just can't get my XDA Mini S to actually access the internet. I have managed to actually get it to connect via WIFI however when I launch internet explorer and click on a link it says it can't access using this connection.
"Can't connect with current connection settings. To change you connection settings, tap Settings".
Under connections I'm not sure what to select as I don't believe I need to setup a modem connection or VPN - am I wrong here??
It shows "connected" in the WIFI settings, indicating my SSID etc. Could someone advise me on what else I need to set. Basically I'm obtaining an IP address and my laptop etc work fine, just wondering what more I need to do to bash internet explorer into submission on the XDA. Is is just me or are Microsoft making this very hard on the normal user..
Start--> settings -->Wireless Lan
SSID is correct.. i.e my Wireless LAN
Mode : infrastructure
BSSID is set (though I don't know what this indicates)
TX Rate :auto
Channel :7
Start--> settings -->Wireless Lan - Advanced Tab
Status : Associated to Network
MAC number given
IP address given (so I guess DHCP is working fine)
Leap tab and Enroll tab - all settings blank.
------------------------------------------------
Start --> settings --> system --. Network cards
SSID shows Connected
Under Network Adapters tab : My network card connects to the Internet.
Adapter NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver. (not sure what difference this makes????)
I temporarily disabled WEP for the purposes of simplifying things.
Simple yet very annoying problem:
Go to Settings->connections->connections->advanced->network selection and make sure both combos read 'My ISP'.
Then, when connecting to your WiFi network select 'This network connects to the internet' (as I understand you already have this set under 'network adapters' so it should be ok).
THANK YOU!

Thank you so very much I have been look for this forever!!!
thanks so much for the tip too. i've been trying to fix my wifi ever since i upgraded to windows mobile 6 and this did the trick.
Okay, this has been bugging me for a long time, so I decided to solve this by myself once and for all.
Situation:
1. GPRS requires a proxy connection
2. WiFi and ActiveSync (A.S. on PC when connecting to an Exchange Server) "inherit" the same GPRS proxy settings, and are unable to connect to that proxy server, which make them both unusable.
So, naturally, I configured "The Internet" connection to use the GPRS access point and the GPRS proxy,
And "My Work Network" to be an internet connection WITHOUT a proxy.
But for some reason, that doesn't work.
The connections tab doesn't let "My Work Network" to be a "proxyless" internet connection.
I tried many configurations, trying to fool the wifi connection, until I got to a final solution that works.
The wifi knows to pick the connection without the proxy, so does the activesync, and so does the default GPRS connection, when no other connection is present, automatically!
So, the solution is this:
1. Go to the Start->Settings->Connections->Advanced tab->Select networks
Under "Programs that… Internet should connect using"
Click New to create a new connection:
Name for settings: Direct Internet
Modem: Leave Blank
Proxy Settings:
This network connects to the internet [Check]
This network uses a proxy [Uncheck, or Check and fill in your home proxy settings]
Click OK.
2. Under "Programs that… private network should connect using"
Click New to create a new connection:
Name for settings: GPRS Internet
Modem: Click New, and follow the wizard to add your GPRS access point.
Proxy Settings:
This network connects to the internet [Check]
This network uses a proxy [Uncheck, or Check and fill in your GPRS proxy settings]
Click OK until all windows are closed.
3. Now we need to get WiFi and AS to use the "Direct Internet" we created.
Go to the Start->Settings->Network Cards (Or Wi-Fi for some OSs)->Network Adapters tab
My Network card connects to:
set "The Internet"
(This will make your Wifi choose the "Direct Internet" connection, with the proxy you specified, or without a proxy)
4. On your PC, Open the Microsoft ActiveSync Window (Make Sure you have ActiveSync 4.5 or higher)
Click File->Connection Settings
This computer is connected to:
set "The Internet"
(This will make your ActiveSync inherit the "Direct Internet" connection, with the proxy you specified, or without a proxy)
That’s it, you're done!
The beauty is that Windows mobile knows it needs to use the "GPRS Internet", only when other connections are not present.
Now you don't have to mess with selecting a proxyless connection when connecting to a WiFi source, or using activesync
thank you very much for this, has helped very much.
i think this is a brilliant work around...... thank u soooooooo very much... i have been banging my head endlessly to try and find some solution to the problem i had.... and nothing could have been better than this....
Shlomki is there any way i can force MS Exchange to use AS when cradled? coz somehow it connects using GPRS even when cradled and connected to AS...
i'm happy to hear it helped you both!

if you followed the steps exactly as i described, exchange SHOULD use AS (your PC's internet connection). that's how its working for me right now.
when cradled and connected to AS, did you try browsing to a website to see which connection it tries to use? try to use PIE and see if it tries to connect to the GPRS or the PC's internet connection.
if it uses GPRS also, there might be a problem with your settings..
Repeat stages 1 & 4, they are critical for that matter.
Try stage 1 without entering a proxy server. just uncheck the proxy settings and check "This network connects to the internet".
Shlomki do u think i should uncheck enable advanced networking in settings--> connections-->USB to PC....?? do u think that maybe the problem creator?

yes, it happens to me also. i think thats the way they intended it to be.
when you use a proxy with the work network, it doesnt uncheck the internet option.
are you using a proxy at all?
no i dont use a proxy..... i connect to the internet using a cable modem... n between the cable modem and the PC is my netgear WiFi router...
then why did you follow a post that's inteded for proxy connections
just select your proxyless gprs settings as your internet connection, and set active sync (on the pc) and network cards (on the ppc) to use "the internet".
im sorry if i didnt make myself clear.... i had proxies... since ur method didnt work i changed the whole setup on my PC and now i dont use a proxy...
but ur post was very informative nonetheless..
thank u again

Thank you so much for this work around. You don't know how long I have been fighting this problem. What an elegant solution!
I think that I might try to abuse this to let other porgrams connect using T-mo GPRS since it seems that only web works when the Proxy is on, and other things work when its not.

are you using wm6?
wm6 roms have a known issue with connecting to some secured networks.
try to set your router to allow unsecured connections and reconfigure your wifi settings in your ppc.
if it connects fine, the problem is with the wifi drivers.

read the manual again, from start to finish, and do not skip a word.
if you're not using a proxy in your "Work Network Settings", this manual is not for you.
I have a wireless network at home that is secured by WPA-PSK. When I access the wireless network on my phone it says a network key is required and I enter it. The wi-fi will work for a few minutes and then it will ask me to enter the network key again. Does anyone know how to store the password so I don't have to enter it every time I use my wi-fi at home, or a way to stop it from continually asking me for the password?
This is a strange behavior. Normally the password is saved automatically, in fact once a network is detected all its settings are automatically saved and there is no manual option to do it.
Unfortunately I never heard of such problem before so I have no idea what could be causing it.
Hi,
Very strange behaviour indeed! Anyway, let's see what we can do for you here.
It appears that you have not configured the network key on your network. If you had, this would have permanently stored it for you and not keep asking you for the key as though you were trying to piggy-back on someone's network.
Now, you wouldn't do that, would ya? War driving is against the law over here in the UK.
Here's what to do:
1. Enable WiFi
2. Start->Settings->Connections->WiFi
3. Click on your own specific network
4. Click - Next
5. 'Configure Network Authentication' screen appears
6.
Authentication: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption: AES
The key is automatically provided: blank (i.e. unticked).
Network key : xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (you MUST enter it here by yourself)
Key index: blank (i.e. unticked)
7. Click Next
Use IEEE 802.1x network access control: ticked (automatically, by the system)
8. Click Finish.
9. Soft reset your device for the settings to take effect.
.......and voila! no more network key questions.
Hope this helps.

Well that didn't work...it's still doing the same thing
Hi,
Hmm........ What next? I ask.
This time, we'd have to concentrate on your router settings. This seems to be the culprit since everything in the device is configured exactly as we discussed in the last posting.
Did you use Windows to configure your wireless connection settings for you or did you configure it manually, using the CD that came with your router? I did the latter for better control.
If you used Windows, then navigate to: Start->Control Panel->Network and Internet Connections->Setup or change your Internet connection.
If you used the CD that came with your router to configure it, then look towards the bottom right of your PC or laptop and you will see a dark green icon which says (e.g.) 'Netgear WN511B is connected to........' Click on it to ensure that the security is set to WPA2-PSK[AES] and that the network key is entered manually.
Either way, please:
1. Check your router settings to ensure that it has not been set to prompt for network key.
2 Ensure that the network key is NOT automatically supplied by the gateway. If the radio button is ticked in your configuration, un-tick it.
3. Check your Windows Network and Internet Connections settings if you've used windows to configure it.
I am using the same security as well as encryption and I don't have such problem.
Hope this helps.

Hi Kiwi392 and CapitanOats25:
I've been working to resolve a similar problem with WEP, and learned something I thought might help in this case: On my router, a NetGear WGR 614 v.6, when I enable WAP PSK I get an entry field labeled "Key Lifetime." By default mine is set for 60 minutes, but you can set it for longer. Perhaps that is the problem?
I hope that helps.
Hi All

Without the Wi-Fi turned on and just using mobile signal it works fine. Internet connection etc is fine.
Ive read a few things about downloading the modules from here http://oe.netripper.com/files/htcleo_autobuild/ but the file people are saying to copy onto the route isnt there.
