[Q] What Rom are you Running? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is not a comparision thread...just wanna know what the good people one the Nexus 4 is running whether its Stock or custom so lets go...how you got your beast set up and with what kernel and launcher???
Me its PA rom...Franco Kernel...Nova launcher Prime....= Flawless

Stock ROM, Apex Launcher Pro and franco kernel.
I have tried motley, trinity and faux, but franco seems to work best with my settings.

Check signature.
Launcher is Nova Launcher Prime as well. Make sure you go into Nova Settings and update to the latest, huge speed bonuses in beta version!

Totally agree. I am more amazed by the stability of the kernel than the (already impressive) better life.

Speaking about Apex... just saw this on twitter new update from apex.
basically does the same thing Nova Launcher Beta does, merges 4.2 sources
New permissions are required to import data from other launchers.
* Merged changes from Android 4.2
* Option to change icon size
* New Apex action to expand quick settings
* Import desktop data from other launchers
* Improved theme support
* Added dock swipe gesture on folders (pro)
* Added support for Next Honeycomb LWP
* Fixed shortcut picker for Android 4.2
* Fixed TouchWiz widget issues
* Various bug fixes and optimizations
* Updated translations

Nova already had this feature. I came from Apex, saw Nova Launcher Prime on sale for like $1 or something. Bought it, opened it and i was like whaaaaaaaaat?! import?! and it ported all of my widgets and app locations to Nova.

Personal story =>
I used Apex since version 0.3. It was featured in the first custom ROM I ever flashed (an early ICS port for the abandoned HTC G2). There wasn't any alternative anyways, stock launcher didn't work at all. Then I bought it when it came out of beta to support the devs.
I already spent my money there, and it works, and I am the kind of guy who doesn't want to change an old habit unless necessary. So... unless Android Does do a Federico Carnales, I will probably keep milking my well-spent $4
Nova does seem to work better and have higher user satisfaction though.
Edit: I bought Launcher Pro too. Abandoned software/hardware is not something unusual, but Federico Carnales really is a shame.

I was the same way with ADW EX, except I bought it when it was on sale so I wasn't too phased by it. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either Nova or apex. It just all comes down to where you spend your money towards meaning you're committed. I used to prefer Apex over Nova, I swapped over to Nova when Nova Prime was on a Google sale. That's the only reason why I converted.
ADW EX is back but I still prefer Nova

Official ICS or Cyanogen?

Hi all. As you might have heard the official Samsung ICS update for our beautiful Note has started rolling out in Europe today. I'm just wondering whether people will be using it or whether they are happy with their custom ICS roms. What are the pros and cons of each?
I'm still on imilka's Cm9 v2, as it works flawlessly on my Note. But I should update soon and want to know what people more experienced than me think (I've only been playing around with flashing for a couple of months)
Thanks

I m going with Official ICS as I feel that our phone is incomplete without Touchwiz apps like S-Pen, S-memo, etc.
The day I will lose my Stylus, I will jump straight away to CM9. LOL.
CM9 is purely for better performance whereas Samsung ICS is for better user-experience.
I stay with TouchWiz Apps but other Launcher.
I think Nova Launcher is the best Launcher, those Folders and Docks are awesome !
Cyanogen definitely as I don't want this crappy Touchwizz on my Note.

I tried a few AOSP roms, but can't live without proper stylus support. I've gotten too used to it.

Why should I have a heavier ROM with useless things when I can have a light ROM smooth and fast and everything I need
How much of a performance difference is there between official ICS with 3rd party launcher and a custom rom? Would you feel this in everyday use?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
I'm sure even without Touchwiz, there will be awesome developers porting Samsung apps over in future. Currently, you can choose both of them to your preference. If you usually take notes and enjoying Sammy's apps then by all means use the stock ICS ROM.
After using imilkas ICS/CM9 and then going back to GB I realised how much lag there was on the note and stock roms... so I guess my question would be...is it as seamless, performance wise, as CM9? (In terms of basic features and performance like swioing between pages and launching apps and transitions ?)

I'm on CM9 but would like to try the Stock ICS, but that's more because of a compulsive flashing disease I must have. Well in fact I would like to have FM radio app, so that's my excuse for flashing the official ROM. I can always install another launcher like nova and still use Samsung apps anyway ? I mean touchwizz is not just a launcher right, it's a whole framework that's "there" even if i use another launcher ?

Thanks for the answer. As I read TW won't work well in tablet mode, I guess even if i use a apex launcher for example, I won't be able to get a working tablet mode with official ICS + apex launcher ?
I think I'll give the official ICS a try before giving my final judgement .

Under GB I tried stock ROM and custom ROMs, the difference between these two kind of ROMs was noticeable.
And I like things clean, so I don't want useles things on my phone.
All ROMs I use are also cleaned by myself using System Tuner Pro and removing all applications I don't use (like Email for example, I only use Gmail, wallpapers, animated wallpapers etc.)
And AFAIK with stock ROM I cannot remove Samsung's crap so CM9 is my best friend.
With OpenDESIGN coming in the next few hours, you'll never say that you miss S-Memo and pen gestures anymore
I've come straight from CM9 and despite the annoyance of Samsung's bloatware I feel that ICS is a lot smoother on the official ROM. The only thing I would like to know is if there is a way to get the stock ICS keyboard. The ones in the Play Store seem to been twatted about with and don't seem to offer the proper ICS autocorrect infrastructure unless I'm mistaken.

What's YOUR Favorite Rom?

I have tried it, I dislike it because the widgets are all messed up...if I place a beautiful widget, it goes up into the status bar when I place it at the top...same with putting it on the bottom...lol so I will be sticking with AOKP till someone convinces me.

I try to run all of them for at least a few days to keep myself in the loop. But so far the rom that suits my taste the best is BAMF Paradigm. I like it because it has the fast, smooth, responsive yet simple launcher and interface. But it still has a lot of features and customizable options like the theme chooser, it's own battery skin theme engine and a bunch of custom battery icons, customizable nav bar, etc.
It's just the perfect blend of both worlds for a daily driver. And it combines really nicely with Motley's 1.1.1 kernel.

Which ROM would you recommend me?

Hey there,
I am searching for a ROM with following requirements:
- Resizeable Navbar, want it a bit smaller
- Opacity of navbar and statusbar background should be changeable, want it transparent
- Should be smooth but no need to be extremely fast in every benchmark, I'd prefer a longer battery life
- Gridsize should be changeable, but could be done by nova launcher etc. if not by the rom itself
- Changeable statusbar symbols would be nice
Any suggestions wich ROM would fullfill most criteria?
Thanks!
I would go for AOKP any time. It's fast, smooth, stable and customizable. In combination with Apex Launcher it can do everything you want and for different statusbar icons there are lots of cool themes suppported by AOKP.

Yes, you can change both statusbar and navbar transparency simultaniously. It's under ROM Control/General UI about halway down the menu.

Ah okay thank you! Maybe you can also tell me the difference between the normal AOKP ROM and the unofficial release from Roman?
Right now I am downloading build 2 of the official ROM.
One last question ^^ does it come with another kernel? If not which kernel would you recommend?
AW: Which ROM would you recommend me?
I don't know the included kernel.
I would go with the Build 2, because this one is more stable.
As kernel I would choose franco's kernel, for me it has awesome battery life and very good perfomance.

I would go with Paranoidandroid, it really is on of the most custom ROM's out their at the minute bringing amazing features to Android. You can change the Nav bar size and colour or or go with tablet UI completely. Battery life would be more ROM, and kernel specific so thats a matter of opinion really.
Im running Slim bean. Really responsive. You can customize Nav bar I'm using the assassins creed nav bar icons and you can change colors and everything, running with their inverted apps, the less whites the better battery. On Franco's kernel also.

I personally use Xylon ROM (tons of features even compared to AOKP), Paranoid Android is also fantastic, I'm on Harsh kernel, smoothest experience and great battery life (5hrs+ screen on), was a Franco fan till I tried Harsh

Paranoid Android using pie controls while still retaining the status bar is a dream come true once you get used to it.
It doesn't slow me down at all and the extra screen real estate is something that I wouldn't want to live without (especially in browser, youtube, video and games).

AOKP hands down.
Thanks all, I tried Xylon and liked it a lot, but suddenly my play store app disappeared and I don't know how.
Then tried Paranoid but I don't like the menu interface and went to AOKP.
AOKP was very fine until now, but my play store disappeared again. I have absolutely no idea what is happening.
But I will open another thread for this problem. Wouldn't be appropriate here.

[Q]Which ROM would you recommend?

Hey guys,
I just recently got my Nexus 10 and after making sure everything is fine with it I want to go ahead and root it.
Since I'm using a HTC Sensation as my phone I know how much a good ROM can improve the user experience and I'm looking for a nice ROM with good battery life.
Normally it's pretty easy to find a thread with a poll, or suggestions etc. but I'm out of luck when it comes to the N10 - haven't found anything yet.
Which ROM would you recommend as a good starting point to try out?
Rather than a poll or suggestions, it'll be better if you try it out different ROMs on your own since most ROMs here are fairly stable. Just remember to read their features and stuff..
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
Personally I recommend starting with CM. They have the easiest to use custom interface and pretty much everything just works fantastic. PA has gobs of customization but it is far from the smoothest experience on the N10. I personally just don't like AOKP.

Try a few to see what you like. Personally, I'd go with the latest AOKP PUB build. TONS of customization options, extremely stable, and the PUB extras make it smoother and faster.
I have run most of the ROMs and I prefer TeamEOS followed by AOKP. They both have built in custom optional tweaks.

I have to say i was a little bit disappointment with CM 10.1 on the manta, using it on my I9100 since almost 1.5 years.

I'm using that one too, and it's great. And if you pair it with KTManta kernel you get a pretty customizable set up.
I don't know why, but Mr Robinson's was a bit of a nightmare for me. I tried twice (clean install) but each time one of my favorite apps, FX Explorer, would lock up when trying to set up/access remote locations and then the N10 would just reboot. It happened repeatedly whether I used TiBU to restore data or installed fresh from the Store. This doesn't happen with the AOKP (mr1, build 6) I'm on now. The final straw, though, was rebooting from recovery (didn't do anything, went in and changed my mind) and couldn't get past the lock screen.
Anyone have an idea what the hell was going on?

No, I asked because I had instability problems with that kernel, until I found out they were caused by improper gpu voltages.
But wiith the stock kernel and Mr.Robinson's rom my Nexus was rock solid, so I can't help you there.
I prefer AOKP ROM, because he faster that stock, he has many settings and very customize. Also he has good performance at games and benchmarks.
I decided to try the AOKP Pub by mrRobinson and I'm very satisfied so far

Stock, because all the ROMs I've tried have been buggy and don't offer a great deal of additional functionality. I do have high hopes for PA though, once thier multi-window is finished. I have rooted the tablet though, mainly for the aosp browser.
I haven't had any real bugs with CM and PA, but AOKP has some weird theming bugs with settings not taking.
I use Pacman, which has CM, PA, and AOKP... All in one package.
KTManta kernel is hands-down my favorite kernel, as well.
PA was put on my Nexus straight away since I detest the phablet look, but now they're adding other things such as halo which is great. Plus PA makes mes want a Nexus 4 to get the most out of it on my phone too.

PA is nice and a great ROM, but if you need performance, sadly, it sucks. I haven't tried the latest build with halo, but on 3.15 the performance is really bad on games.
I use PA for the Hybrid engine. It is truly brilliant. I get very few errors in terms of performance and the tablet crashes occasionally but it's worth it--especially for Halo alone. Hopefully they will start to develop the Halo functionality in regards to tablets having multi-window rather than stacked Halo processes.

Rasbeanjelly + franco.Kernel
Not a ton of customization, lightweight, fast and optimized. And can use the same combination across all my devices (N4, N7, and N10).
I never used PA, but have heard quite a few reports of it being somewhat on the worse-side for performance.
Carbon ROM, felt the smoothest for me and had all the customizations I needed. A second for me would be Sentinel ROM. I guess it depends on what your main preference is. If its AOSP (stock), PA, cyanogen, or AOKP. They all offer something different. The best way is try a ROM and see if you are comfortable with the usage of that ROM. Also Kernel can also help play a role in your ROM choice.
I use the last RasSaber build, dont know where it is available anymore though. It gives me enough of the customization that I want, a nice built in theme, and very smooth performance with great battery life. For kernel I use the KTManta kernel because it offers the best battery life through undervolting and also gives me the best performance. Lots of fun options with it if your into that sort of thing.
Can you please share the rom if you have the package ? I dont find it neighter

Someone should do a performance check on PAC ROM. If it has all these features from different ROMs, including P.A. then it *should* also have similar performance right? Would be pretty weird if another dev who ported Paranoid Android features got it working way better when mixed with even more things on top.
